Dbrand or Slickwraps? - LG G6 Accessories

I'm thinking about getting a skin but I've never used one before. I'd like something that has decent grip. Which brand would you recommend?
Sent from my LG-H872 using Tapatalk

Hands down the Slickwrap - any of the three leather from the natural series. I have wasted money in dbrand and the other vinyl from SW as well.
I regret not buying the natural series. It's amazing, I have seen it on a friend's phone and got so jealous.

Leather and Natural are 2 different series. Which one are you referring to?

The last three inside the natural series.

Wish I can see this before ordering my dbrand. That does look slick!

I ended up returning the Wooden "Natural Series" Slickwraps skin I bought recently, and don't recommend anyone else order one of those. The trouble is that its edges are sharp, and stick up from the back. This may be exacerbated by the slight rounding on the back of the G6, but it made holding the phone with this skin on it really bothersome. I haven't got my money back from Slickwraps, and frankly don't expect to, I've read elsewhere that these companies basically never do that. I've also read that they Photoshop these edges down on the photos on their site.
All that said, I am still interested in the Alacantara Slickwraps skin, which is like suede, but my only hesitation there is that from some reason those don't have a little extra bit to go around the cameras. If anyone's tried a "Natural Series" leather skin, I'm also curious if that's more comfortable to hold, or if that has issues too.

Never tried Dbrand before but I did order the carbon fiber wrap from Slickwraps and love it. I currently only have the Back/Front and Camera Lens skinned. Here is a gallery of shots I put together of my titanium LG G6 with the carbon fiber skin from slickwraps. I would recommend them to anybody.

Yep, patrickneil is spot on. It's almost awesome. But it is clearly a 1mm wood sticker. I've applied it perfectly yet the bottom has an arc between the phone and slickwrap, filling up with dust and hair.
I have filed down every other edge so that it feels better but it was a lot of effort. A little false advertising on slickwraps behalf.

Anyone here use either Dbrand or slickwraps front decals with a screen protector? is it possible?

So cheap but not sure of quality.
For 4 bucks how can you go wrong.
I had one on my HTC One and I loved it. Great feel in the hand and almost nothing added to the phone bulk or weight wise. Just don't expect to protect much in the way of drops.
Well I'm a sucker for marketing so I was wondering if I should wait for a Meifeng branded one or whatnot.

Just an FYI, there are several sellers on eBay with this case. I just ordered from the link below. $3.98 delivered. The one in the OP is $3.99 + $0.99 shipping. I know, it's only a dollar but hey...

I remember a recent news about street selling case vendors in china.
The cases have funny smell at first use due to cancer causing chemical agents in the material used to make the case.

Probably a shill.
Does not look that good...instead of that I would prefer to take my N5 naked.....
For 4 bucks, I'll pick one up too. I've never had a rough feeling case like this one on any phones before so may as well try it.
Had this on the nexus 4 and I loved it. Of course, I got it simply for scratches and not for drop protection although it probably did help a bit. I've already ordered this for nexus5.
I ordered one of these last week. Who knows when it'll come in. I'll check back here when it does though. I think I ordered a gray one but I'm not sure - I bought 4 or 5 cases on eBay and kinda forget which ones I got.
For those that have gotten these type of cases before; are the insides of the cases the same sand feel as the outside? I am afraid that the inside would scratch away the matte coating of the phone.

It is the same as the outside though it's not as rough as you think it is. IMO it won't scratch off the matte coating.
One's on the way eventually. Looked softer then the Nillkin patterned case.
Judging by how flexible the case is in this picture, it looks like it's made out of some TPU-like material rather than the hard plastic that other slim cases are made out of. So I don't think scratching will be a problem.
I had a quicksand on my n4 and it was not flexible at all, we'll see when my n5 version comes in.
Thanks for the plug OP. I'll try these as well.
Love these type cases. But they are not all created equally. Had the best Rock quicksand one my S3. It was very good. Have a Meifeng on my N4 and it is just as good. Rocking a Bear Motion quicksand type on my S4 and it is solid as well. But I've tried some knock offs until I found the good ones and found that those, while they had the feel, were very flimsy and would crack.
The problem I've found is that I haven't found one mfg that supports multiple phones. None of those that I named had a case for any of the phones except the one I already had it on. =-O

Got mine today, black version. Looks great on N5, fits like a glove but still easy enough to get it off and it doesn't add much bulk at all. Tiny lips around edges, won't protect against drop but good enough if you place screen face down. Material is pretty grippy, sandy texture doesn't scratch N5 soft touch plastic.
I've a gray version by bear motion for HTC One, but bought this one on eBay because BM isn't making one for N5.

Couple of cases I've pruchased - my impressions of them

I bought these full price from Amazon since right now there are no case deals yet that I've seen.
Mustaner smooth hard minimal case
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KPEMZZS
I gave it a 3 star review - it definitely is smooth, but to the point it feels like it is going to slide right out of your hand. Also, camera cutout does not have a lip and the sensor sticks out slightly even with the case.
Ringke onyx case
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K5I9CB4
This is the one I'm going to be running as my daily driver. Defintiely offers some good protection all around. The sides are textured and offer a nice grip to it. I'm giving it a 5 star because all around it is an awesome case. Adds a little bulk but nothing terrible that detracts from the phone.
I just wish there was a minimalistic case that had some slight texture and protected the camera.

I did a quick look at wallet case for the V20 .. there was only one model ahaha... until I find a full coverage case like otterbox/lifeproof I will stick to that. I doubt that my phone holster i got for the note 7 will work on with it though =/ It was design for the ip7 and the note 7 was slightly smaller so I knew that fit but v20 is bigger. Without the case I know it fit... with it ... errr >.>

I'm looking for the most minimalist case possible that will provide basically scratch protection...not really looking for one that is designed for "drop" protection.
Reason for the thinner case is due to my car holder clip which barely is able to keep my previous V10 without a case stable.
I was considering this one...https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LQV7VCQ/ref=psdc_3081461011_t2_B01M0HW9P4

There is several that "looks" the same, but is it worth going with the Spigen?
I have the spigen crystal on as I type this. Clean and minimalistic. Offers a raised lip around the display, and offers a raised lip around the camera bump. Solid non-slipping gripability on back and sides. A little too shiny and floppy around the edges though. A good basic protector.

Is it just me or does the case selection kind of suck so far on this phone? I know it's not even the official release date yet but hopefully the case selection will get better.

My go to case manufacturer has gauged not enough interest in this phone so Diztronic will not be making a TPU case or any case for it unfortunately.

SlickWraps - Not previously a fan but...

the fit was actually pretty good on the G6. I think it's because of the chamfered edges. The fit on my iPhone 7 Plus was horrible because of the rounded edges. I didn't like how the fit and finish wasn't quite as perfect as my OCD demands. I ripped that one off practically immediately. On my HTC 10 I had a Nude wrap that was terrible because the glue on it could be seen right thru the clear skin as well as all the slight imperfections. It just made a gorgeous device look pitted and ugly. So for the LG G6 I got a skin that wasn't see thru but had a design. I got the StormTrooper because I felt it complemented the platinum G6 well. I only wanted the back skin but unfortunately they only sell the set. This is probably the first SW skin I'm happy with. Check out my YT vid here:

Dbrand is nice, but they don't have any real leather (or wood for that matter) skins, just leather textured ones.
Then again, you probably couldn't fit the phone in a case after sticking some leather on it's back either so both versions have their pros and cons.
Thanks for that video... I have actually ordered the slickwraps and waiting to be shipped to Canada...
Edit: I got mine and put it on... Looks real nice, and I credit myself for doing a good job
I got a Dbrand sticker for mine, just to cover the ugly fingerprint magnet shiny black back, because I don't use a case. It looks really great and it fits perfectly, without interfering at all with the fingerprint reader or camera.
I got a Carbon for mine from SW, it's pretty good. Usually go with DBrand but they don't offer any options for the sides.
Huge Thanks!

Just want to throw this out there for those who are considering a leather skin.
The leather skin is of great quality, but it is rather thick and will not be compatible with most cases. They are different from Dbrand leather skins in that respect. The quality, as i said, is great, but due to the thickness they dont fit with cases. I would estimate that the skin adds about 2 mm of thickness to the back.

No.
You can make any skin a pixel skin; cut the top off.
Just to let you guys know, Slickwraps currently has a 50% off sale!
And thanks for all the info in here. Since my G6's glass back is already pretty scratched after a few months of use and as it's the worst fingerprint magnet ever, those back wraps look like the perfect solution.

skin/wrap feedback

I've never used a skin/wrap before and bring averse to bulky cases I thought I might give them a try.
If you've used them before I'd like to know more about your experience: ease of application, residue after removal, durability/longevity, feel and overall satisfaction.
I returned my XZ1 compact and have pre-ordered a pixel 2 and would like to have my accessories in place when it arrives.

I've used them. I like them but almost always wind up taking them off - don't really know why honestly. I didn't think anyone was shipping yet for the Pixel 2 but I could be wrong. My thoughts
Easy to apply, use a hair dryer and be patient
No residue after removal
No issues with longevity. They seem to stick around. Sometimes at the beginning you get a lot of dirt trapped along the edges but that goes away.
The biggest thing for me is grip and honestly none of the regular skins offer anything meaningful. Even the dragon one from Dbrand which was supposed to be super grippy didn't feel noticeably different to me than a regular skin. Dbrand has a narrow scoped, predictable, good product and great customer service. Meaning, they aren't offering crazy variety but just offering what they know works reliably. SlickWraps goes out of their way to make unique textures and materials such as natural wood and leather. Many people have had a ton of CS issues with them though. My favorite skin of all time is Alcantara from SlickWraps as it is soft touch and grippy but it does not go all the way around and also is rather thick.
I usually wind up with something like Peel as a case.

My first time trying a wrap. I'm not a fan of cases. But this just feels and looks like I have a sticker on my phone - especially on the curved backside corners.
It also collects fuzz like crazy. I'll be pulling mine off when my case gets here, out maybe just leave it on in my case.

Unless you go the natural selection, they are literally stickers lol. That fuzz collection will stop once the residual adhesive on edges fades

I just wanted to add my feedback on the dbrand dragon skin.
The dragon skin has a really nice leathery feel and definitely adds grippiness to the phone.
However, the one down side of using a full back + side skin is that because the physical power and volume buttons don't protrude very much from the phone, you kind of lose the tactile feel of them.
Kind of torn as to keep or peel it off. It is kind of weird not to be able to feel the power and volume buttons
Anyone get anything like Alcantara yet?

Do you get the sense that a case would fit over the skin? I'm considering one, but wouldn't necessarily want to remove and ruin it if I opted for a case afterward.

I used the spigen case over the dbrand skin for a couple days and it fit just fine. However, I decided I preferred no case - the dragon skin feels really nice with great grip.
One thing I do recommend from dbrand is to get a glass skin (or use the bonus one that's included) in addition to your normal full skin. The doubling up (or even tripling) of skins on the glass section make it just high enough to clear the stupid camera bump, and hopefully help prevent it from scratching when putting your phone on it's back.
I prefer clear TPU skins. They add significant grip on your hands and don't slide on flat surfaces. Plus, they are clear so you don't hide the phone's design.

Yikes. I've never seen anything like this. I believe I've had both Dbrand and SlickWraps, and both have been great, no fuzzies, and go on clean and tight. I had a nice light and dark wood (stickers only) for my Note5. I also have a real leather one that I never used, and may try to "mod" it for my Pixel 2 XL that's in the mail (so excited!!). I hate to see that nice leather go to waste. But it probably won't match up well and will probably look super-wanky. We'll see.
And the Pixel 2 looks like it may have the Nexus 5 soft matte back, am I wrong? Skins may not stick quite right, as opposed to the glass-back of the Note5.
(edit: just realized we have a Pixel 2 XL forum as well. I thought they'd just use one, but apparently dev is diff for each? Interesting...)

Accessories Bought Skin for my OnePlus 9 Pro

Got this one from https://www.gadgetshieldz.com/
I opted for the full-back one along with camera and logo skins as well.
The final price came around Rs. 537 ($7) after some automatic coupon they applied.
The packaging is nice too, came with like 4 sets of logo cutouts and in total 3 pairs of camera cutout skins along with a decent microfiber cloth.
In my personal opinion the quality and the overall things they supplied make up the price but for some, it can feel a tad bit expensive.

Even I bought my mobile's skin from Gadgetshieldz, and I don't find it expensive for the product is worth the price!!
Like in all seriousness what kind of drop protection do skins like these offer, decent? I really like what you did but drop my phone from time to time.

No drop protection whatsoever but, if the back glass shatters, the skin will stop the shards going all over

I typically put a skin on my skin and then put a transparent back case on top of it. So that way best of both worlds.
Haven't bought any case for my 9 pro yet because I am waiting for the product reviews to populate, but yea skin and a transparent case is my goto.

White marble looks cool!!! Recently bought a skin from Gadgetshieldz for OnePlus 9 pro I own. Bought hive flatback skin and sandstone orange for the camera array. Gotta say they're of good quality. Here's few pictures!!

Have already posted in a different thread!! It is Ebony wood skin from Gadgetshieldz.
I just run spigen slim armor cases on all my phones. They work great
Managed to get the dbrand (RED) Damascus skin while it was offered, got the Grip + skin too, the reduction in signal is nowhere near as bad as it was for Pixel/iPhone.

I heard the first gen metallic skins from dbrand used a metallic filler that interfered with the radios, I have the second gen dbrand warzone and reception appears to be the exact same.

That was primarily with iPhones and Pixel phones and only affected the wraparound skins, back only skins did not interfere
