Frustrated trying to enable Shift and Ctrl keys in bluetooth keyboard - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

I recently bought a bluetooth keyboard to type faster. Initially it wouldn't detect some keys like Shift or Ctrl, so I had no way to capitalize letters. At some point, after installing the Google keyboard (gboard), these keys worked. I could press simultaenously the "Shift + a" and then I got an "A". Yes, pretty basice. The thing is that after a day, it went back to not detecting these keys anymore. That means that I can't choose the special characters above the numbers (like brackets, @, etc).
I tried to root and use a "Bluetooth keyboard fix" app from the market. Unfortunately, nothing works.
I'm lost and I desperately need a solution. I tried to connect the keyboard to my phone (Huawei P9 Lite) and I get the same result: no Shift, no Ctrl.
Anyone knows how to solve it? Thanks!

Sounds to me like the might be a hardware defect? Which ROM are you on? I've had trouble with Bluetooth keyboards sometimes, but usually not something as basic as the shift key. Occasionally stuff may go wrong with the keyboard switching to a wrong mode, but that would normally affect the letter buttons for me, not shift.
Generally on any android version from lollipop upwards I haven't had to use an external keyboard app for anything on my various Bluetooth keyboards.

I'm in stock ROM, the latest that Samsung put at our disposal: 5.1.1.
Sounds like a software glitch but can't make sure!

Given you describe that the same issue occurs on another device, I'm afraid it sounds to me like a problem with the keyboard. Switching off these buttons would seem like a strange software feature -though I can't say for sure, of course.

Thanks, I have written to the seller.

I had nothing to lose, so I've decided to open the keyboard. It had several clips around the plastic "grid". There is a flat cable connector; I reassured it and... bang! I'm posting the picture to help others (though I think I was the only one with this weird problem).

PLEASE HELP...Cell Phone keypad as bluetooth keyboard for Prophet.

Hi Guys,
I need to find a way to use my nokia 6230 keypad as bluetooth keyboard for my QTEK S200.
I need this because I need to be able to write SMS without looking at neither QWERTY Bluetooth keyboard nor touchscreen of Prophet.
PLEASE HELP...
nobody has an idea
So let me ask another question.
Is there a BT keyboard with 9 key phonepad layout?
Has any one came accross??
i could do with something like that too
you got me curious now. After having a look around, can't find anything. Something like this, but with letters on as well as numbers would do the job

except that that product is a bluetooth earpiece with a keypad added, seemingly as an afterthought.

Perhaps there is a cab to make the phonepad vibrate when you press a key?
Someone posted a phonepad vibrate cab a while back, turns out it only makes the dialpad vibrate, not the phonepad.
Thank you for your interest
I have seen this one before. But the numbers on the device are just to enter phone number to dial.
I want to be wrting SMS's via 9 key keypad.
I think I should be buying a HTC S710 when it is legally available in Turkey..
By the way..Thanks..
PhonePad?
Well you could just install HTC PhonePad and VibrateKeys. That would let you know that it took your letter without having to look at the screen. On the other hand, I have never been able to get the VibrateKeys app to work.
phonepad and vibratekeys
that's what I'm talkin about, man. I could do with this.
Where is this "vibratekeys"?
Does it work on WM6?
the only thing I found to work vibrates the dialler keys ... which is good, but not what I wanted..
Bad news
The vibratekeys does not work in WM6. Not the version I have anyway. I never could get it to work, but I think I only ever tried with WM6. There goes that idea.
Couldn't you use a full QWERTY keyboard like the freedom mini?

[HELP] On-Screen Keyboard Options Pop-up ALL THE TIME

I don't know is it an issue only I have, or maybe it's a well-know problem that Touch Pro2 users have to deal with but whenever I hit the lowest, middle part of the screen, the Keyboard's Options pop-up, although there's no icon to click. The on-screen keyboard on the other hand never pop's-up by itself, so the issue only regards the Option's box.

I find this highly irritating, 'cause it happens EVERYWHERE: when I try to hit OK in G-Alarm; when I'm not too precise with the Sense slider or - and this is extremely irritating - when I play games designed for Portrait mode (the upper screen was taken while playing "The Simpsons Arcade"). Portrait mode games are just unplayable (hence the controls are often in the lower screen parts).
I don't really use the options box. If I ever use the on-screen keyboard (which isn't often) I have it always set to Phone Keyboard when in Portrait, and to Full Qwerty in Landscape. I never change those options so if it's possible to disable the Option's box all together that'll be just fine.
I'm not sure is it relevant, but I use an official ROM upgrade to Sense 2.1
Oh come on! I'm sure someone can help. Please? This is a truly irritating bug.
dude, i've never had this happen unless the keyboard icon was present in the middle. sure, if i hit a little weird (which technically I think is to the right of the icon (?)) that screen pops up..
I have no idea why its happening, but since no one has replied, I wonder if it is a glitch or bug w/ just what you got..? have you tried any other roms or resetting to factory default?
Not yet - I'd hate to reinstall all my applications, set them all over again and tweak the phone from scratch (I know I can do a backup but if I would decide to install a new ROM I would switch from the official upgrade (Sense 2.1 with WM6.5) to a cooked 2.5 and the backup wouldn't work).
I don't really fell like doing that just to fix one minor problem.
It's like with bugs on Windows PC - people usually let you to format your disc and install the OS again, but I'm always able to fix any issues I have without formating the device (I haven't done that in a year).
But I'm not that good with Windows Mobile, so I'm asking for your help, oh mighty ones
I'm sure it's something that could be fixed within the registry of with Total Commander - I just don't know how to find the bug myself.
Maybe someone could post his/hers setting from the registry (from directions that have something to do with the on-screen keyboard) so I could compare them with my reg keys?

Galaxy Nexus Voice Recognition changed?

Has anyone else had the talk-to-text voice recognition features change on their phone without them doing anything?
The voice recognition used to look like the first screen shot below when used in any application. After speaking it would recognize that you stopped talking and then give you 3 options to choose from for what it thought you might have said.

This second screen shot shows what the talk-to-text looks like now. It just appears at the bottom of the apps its called in. However, it also doesn't recognize that you've stopped talking and it no longer gives the suggestions.
Has anyone else had this issue with their phone? Anyone know how to fix it or change it back to the way that it was when it actually worked?
I certainly hope it's not the new way it's going to be because it blows pretty hard.

Did you just upgrade from ICS to Jelly Bean? I never used speech-to-text in ICS, and the speech-to-text popup in JB has always looked like the second version for me. In Jelly Bean, it will still sense when you have stopped talking, there is just a longer delay. You can also tell it that you have stopped by tapping the microphone symbol again. If it recognized your words incorrectly, you can tap the incorrect words if they are underlined. Alternate words will be displayed.

new keyboard

I am trying to find a keyboard with both the letters and numbers on one screen. I need to be able to enter both without pressing symbol button or shift to change keyboards. Do you guys know any APK's or program that would allow this? I have tried swift key and perfect keyboard and they didn't work.
I don't know of anything like what you want, and this should probably be posted in the themes and apps section, or the question section, but definitely not the Development section.

Swiftkey works fine. What did not work for you?
I am curious too as to why SwiftKey doesn't work for you. If you long press on a key either the single additional options will post or like the below will happen. View attachment 1746389

This one has a free version, but I don't know if you can add the numbers on the front keyboard on the free version. I know you can on pro. It looks like the aosp keyboard. You of course can customize it. Its worth the $3.

It is customizable as far as colors and layout, etc. I like it a lot! the numbers can by one tap change to punctuatuins, and arrows, etc.

Garbled screen but otherwise working phone

My screen suddenly became garbled, like static TV noise in colour, but the phone seems to be working in the background.

The pattern is different when I press the power button twice to "cycle" the screen on and off.
I can switch it on and off, the fingerprint reader wakes up the phone, my router can see the phone and gives it an IP.
I can list the phone with adb with a USB cable connected:
Code:
$ adb devices
List of devices attached
XxxxXXxx unauthorized
Unfortunately my current computer is not authorized. Is it possible to change the "adb ID" of the computer so that the phone recognizes it as authorized (I might have a backup of an older computer that might contain some keys).
Does anybody have any idea what I can try to fix this, or what could be broken? I'm afraid it's something hardware related or in the screen, so that it has to be replaced.
I've only been using it as a backup phone lately, so I don't think I have anything important on the phone, maybe there is a way to factory reset it and see if the screen starts working properly again?
I've also tried shaking and tapping, to see if there was a physical glitch that could be unglitched .
OK, so the way to change the computer's adb ID (the one that the phone sees) is to replace the key pairs ~/.android/adbkey[.pub]. That didn't help me unfortunately, since none of my backup keys were accepted on the phone since before.
I managed to enter my unlock PIN after a few attempts in the blind though (which means input is working fine, just not output), and also to accept the computers adb ID, so I am now backing up what I can with adb pull .
The screen problem might be due to a broken "data choke" (filter?). At least this is a known problem on some Samsung models and Pixel 2, according to:
I haven't seen an easy way to solve this for the Oneplus 5T yet though (that is, I haven't seen anything looking like the small components in that video on videos or pictures of the internals of a 5T.
Anyone know of this, or know what the components are called and if there are components like this for the 5T?
