Has anyone been able to clean flash a ROM on the may bootloader using recovery? - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

as per the title... I've flashed roms on the may bootloader plenty of times, but I have yet to find a method where I am able to do it without plugging a computer at some point during the flashing process ... what I usually do is as follows:
boot to recovery > wipe data/cache > flash rom > flash twrp (attempting to flash verified bootsigner at this point, it usually tells me that the boot image is already signed and whether I abort or sign anyway then rebooting to recovery seems to fail and I get a ram dump, so instead...) > ...reboot to bootloader > fastboot boot twrp > flash verified bootsigner > reboot to recovery > flash gapps, etc. > reboot system > profit
dirty flashing is easier because verified bootsigner works the first time. so the issue remains , has anyone found a way to Clean flash a rom explicitly through recovery?

Everytime you install a room you have to install the TWRP zip after and bootsigner ETC

My bad I missed that. Hmm. RC1 or RC2 zip for twrp?
Also. Some ROMs come with Gapps
Might be a flash over gapps issue

twrp RC2 since its required for verified bootsignerv8 and magisk... I get the issue without even trying to boot into system so its not a gapps issue. beansgapps removes any preexisting gapps btw if your running into that issue

nope never had O... as I said I don't have a problem running a custom rom on may boot loader... I'm running pixel dust right now. the issue is being able to clean flash and have verfified bootsigner work. I'm questioning my methodology bcuz no one else seems to be having this issue

It seems to be rom dependent. Works every time on DU and PN. Pixel dust is one that I also have trouble with. I can make it work a couple of different ways but I still need a computer to do it. Haven't tried it lately with Pixel Dust though.

Aha this is probably it, I think it has to do with whether or not the system image is signed despite only rebooting into recovery it probably checks boot and system since recovery is located in boot anyway. I think an update to chainfires signer could fix this , maybe I'll post over there.
How do you like DU? Also have you tried Paranoid Android? these are the two roms I've been considering trying but don't feel like changing my stable set up just yet without a good reason

PA needs some work. Not many features. Love Pixel Dust. PN is always top notch. DU is the BEST, most stable rom for our device you can run. It's flawless. That's not something you can say for most roms out for our device. Especially LOS based roms.

Thank you, you have me pretty convinced to try out DU because you seem to be on the same thought process as me. My phone is also my work phone, so I need stability. My preference is
1. Stability
2. Performance
3. Battery life
4. Features I would actually use.
Gotta have Viper4a
Exclusively use LMT pie.
Don't know what Nav bars our? Lol
Love Sdcardfs kernels.
Other nice thing about DU is weeklie updates. I start to get the shakes after seven days if I don't flash something. Not a big crack flasher. Every week satisfies my addiction. Hope you like DU?

No, it does not. PA has a basic pie. I think a couple of other roms do. I recommend 2.8 LMT pie. Outstanding, been using it for years.

So does this mean I can just backup my current ROM, wipe and then flash all zips except for the recovery and then I have Ubuntu? Can I go back to my current ROM with TWRP exclusively?
I'm a bit worried about, like, everything.
Sure, no problem.
Just be sure to get rid of /data/ubuntu before your next nandroid. On my device I always fail to restore when it's in.

Installing Xposed with Root Access and TWRP?

I appreciate the fact that many will think this thread is a complete waste of time, but i'm struggling to find out how to actually do this with the G4. I have an unlocked bootloader and TWRP 2.8.7.0 installed, but from what i've read the latest Xposed Framework installer (v79) is still causing bootloops on this phone. Are there any safe methods to install Xposed without using the drawn out solution posted here?

Just make sure you have the uninstaller to hand if you need it and also take a back up. I have used xposed on stock 5.1 and stock 6 also cm12.1 and cm13 so there shouldn't be any issues here

I don't think you are an idiot... You have actually taken the time to read the thread and check compatibility which is very smart.
I know v79 skd23 works on cm13 and genesis v3.5 so any marshmallow based roms should be fine. If you have issues then use the uninstaller and if that fails then restore the backup you have taken. No harm done. If you do have issues I'm sure a fresh install of your rom of choice and then install xposed (and nothing else at the same time, plus wipe dalvik and cache) should sort you out.

Thank you for being so kind. I went into TWRP and flashed the file, but unfortunately i ended up with the bootloop. So then i went to boot into recovery by holding the power buttons, but all it gives me is the LG recovery and not TWRP. So now my phone is essentially bricked and i've only had it a week.

We're okay, i sorted it. Never been so scared in my life, thought the phone was done for because i had no ADB or Fastboot to save me. It turns out that by choosing the factory reset option in the LG recovery, it simply boots straight to TWRP because the default recovery is missing. Then i was able to flash the Xposed uninstaller and it booted fine afterwards.

Sorry..... That's your issue. I actually told you wrong yesterday. I meant to say stock based marshmallow rather than stock. It will work with genesis v3.5 which is stock based and an easy flash of you are already on marshmallow. It's due to xposed needing the system to be deodexed.
Regards,
Ravi

xposed runtime for Marshmallow update?

Is there an xposed runtime .zip or whatever for the marshmallow update to Sprint s6 to be able to use xposed modules?
I still have:
xposed-v80.0-sdk22-arm64-custom-build-by-wanam-20160211.zip
Which worked on LP, but I don't want to flash it and mess up the phone if it's not supposed to be for this version.

There's a marshmallow version of xposed in the original thread, however, we don't have twrp yet. There's no way to flash a zip without that, at least that I know of. I'm sure we won't be waiting too long for twrp though.

I've gotten a full day of heavy use with a custom ROM, I didn't make it to 5pm today. I had greenify and amplify working on the custom rom though, so hopefully now that we have recovery, I can test out xposed and get some of those things back. This was my first Samsung phone, I'm not sure I'd go to the S7 after this experience. I came from a phone that easily got 1.5 days on a charge.

I can't get this working correctly.
I installed flashfire and flash the zip and let it keep the option to mount system read/write, and i see it unpacking files, and then the screen goes blank and eventually i have to force it to reboot.
After reboot, xposed apk says it's not installed.
Is there some other way to flash the zip?

You used flashfire? That won't do it for me. After extracting, goes to a black screen and I have to force a reboot, then xposed afterwards says it's not installed.
Worked just fine for me. For multiple different files. V4a, xposed, and a couple other things.
Screenshots added for exact settings I used.
Flashfire takes a few minutes to load once it does all that unpacking. My suggestion would be to be patient before forcing a reboot.

That's odd, I wouldn't figure there'd be that much of a difference between the flat and edge model that flashfire would work for me and not for you.

You should flash back to stock and update. Cannot install OTA over a rooted rom I believe.
However, I came from Paranoid Android and followed the advice here, and it worked perfectly. Was able to keep root and TWRP.

I was rooted I use this post, and the is a link in that thread to the actual zip your will need, and also you must have the updated TWRP as well. All the information is in that thread. but that is literally it.
Download update zip
Download Flashfire
download new TWRP
Back up you crap ( will not wipe SD card unless you tell it to )
Run FlashFire, set setting correctly
run it, you will already be rooted when done
set dev mode
re-flash new TWRP

Did you get the option "Restore boot and recovery images" when setting Flash OTA zip? I just got Auto mount and Mount /system read/write.

If you have Xposed just get Android N-ify and it's just like having 7.0
Anyone updated from DP5 / systemless root / TWRP?
And flashed zip for adaway to work.
What are the steps to update with ota zip?
Yes and everything is ok. Follow the steps carm01 suggests some post above. Its easy and at least for me everything worked. After fisrt boot you can go to TWRP and flash everything else you need.

You can get the same experience without going through the trouble of upgrading and then having to root again etc. I personally like it but we all have opinions

I used it months ago so there could be a lot of changes to it since then?
I don't believe the new notifications are there? Quick pull down? It's also nice that it takes up a GB less for system as well.
What rom are you on?

It's been discussed many times my friend. You'll find all you need by searching just a little. However, if you know your adb/fastboot, it's not very difficult. Here's a little guide I made that will update your system without wiping data :good:
