above average hardware, very poor software - Huawei Watch

Hi all, it's a week that I replaced a Moto 360 2015 with a Huawei Watch and these are my thoughts about it.
I'm very happy the community is much bigger than Moto 360 one, I think mostly because of the possibility to connect the watch to the PC via USB.
I can install other brands watchfaces, TWRP, custom ROMs and so on now (it seems my dreams have come true!! *_*).
The watch is beautiful, way smarter than my old one (I had the black 42mm version), it has an AMOLED display (true black, better battery usage,..) and a speaker (never used, but you never know).
The only hardware part I miss is the brightness sensor, I have to change brightness every time I go in/out...
However, I'm quite disappointed about the software part.
Probably used to Motorola, I found Huawei's software less curated. Not so beautiful (and not customizable at all) watchfaces, useless smartphone app (Huawei Wear), not syncing step counter.
I can't find out how how to sync Huawei Health with the watch, neither Huawei Health and Google Fit or Fit and watch stepcounter and it seems absurd, being fitness tracking one of the main wear functions.
Maybe the cause of some of this issues is AW 2.0 (like the Fit-smartwatch and poor battery life parts), but I would have expected some sort of communication between the watch and same-brand-smartphone-app.
Anyway, those are only personal thoughts and wanted to share with you.
P.S. If anyone knows how to sync Google Fit smartphone app and wear one I'd really appreciate

It will get better at software with time

No isn't the Chinese version...
I still can't sync data.. for example now Huawei Wear says 1600+ steps, Fit in the watch 1700+ and Fit app only 650.
And about at 2pm I loose some steps recorded by Fit in the watch, it probably synced with the app wiping my progresses in the watch

it might be network latency
Just now having checked both phone and watch , found out there is a discrepancy between them after a while they are in sync again

Best Smartwatch

i am looking to buy a smartwatch and have really been looking at the I'm watch just wondering what everyone else's favorite smartwatch is, please use the poll and leave any comments etc thanks.
Sony Ericsson MBW-150/200. If you can find one and you're looking for something more upscale, try the MBW-150 Executive Edition. The LiveView is trash, don't bother with it. The Sony Ericsson watches are made by Fossil. It's what I use right now. Like ~$65-$70 on Amazon. I got it shipped to me the next day:

thanks and i took a look at these watches but i like the I'm watch mainly because it is running android and even has a notification bar, you can also develop apps for it which should allow you to change the clock faces as well with peoples creations.
My Liveview just has just broken today.. I'm really sad I think I'm going to buy once of them suggested by Product F(RED)...
Can I read the text of the incoming sms from the Fossil that you have linked?

After three failed displays on three MBW-150s (two Executives and one Classic), I may try the MW-200. Someone on another thread said that the display on his MBW-200 hasn't faded (yet), while his MBW-150 did. Since the MBW-200 uses a different display, I wonder if Sony knew this all along, and that's why they came out with it?
FYI, when I called the local Fossil shop to see about the possibility of getting replacement displays for my MBW-150s, the tech said they DID NOT make the MBW series for Sony-Ericsson, another vendor did. He said they did make the MetaWatch, but as stated elsewhere, it doesn't work very well with OpenWatch.
---------- Post added at 12:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:29 AM ----------
After some searches, it seems that the MBW-200 is designed to be a woman's watch. Can someone compare the size of it to the MBW-150? I'm a big guy with large wrists, so I don't want a little sissy watch on my wrist.

Special Faces from Motorola?

It appears that Motorola has more watch faces than the Best Buy models somehow. A user over on Reddit posted that his Moto 360 from Motorola has 19 faces instead of the 6 on the Best Buy one he has. They're titled: "planetary, polar, rings, coordinates, dashboard, orbit, reveal, digitalog, aviator, photos, and increment." His software is also 4.4W instead of 4.4W1 on the Best Buy model, it even says software is up to date when manually checked.
Here's Planetary, the little lines spin around in real time: http://i.imgur.com/yc7vGk6.jpg
EDIT: They also have different boot animations...
Looks like it has the add on faces of the g watch

Hmm, could you post the rest of them so that maybe we can figure out where they came from?
Here they all are from someone else on Reddit! He said they're all Google default faces and that maybe they're part of the next version of Wear since one has the charge/connection status icons on it.

I had a BB watch for the past few days and my watch direct from Motorola arrived yesterday. Not only did my Motorola watch have additional watch faces but it also did NOT have ambient mode.
The watches with the extra faces are on build KKW22 which is an older build, KGW42N is the updated build number.

Why in the flying hell are the BB units different! That's really flaky.
Some of the extra faces sounds like they are from the LG G Watch. None really are groundbreaking, just that they are stock and you can see the cards clearly.

I have a Google Play watch and neither build had the other (g watch?) faces on them.
Can anyone pull the faces off the Motorola release version?
It shouldn't have anything to do with whether the watch was from BB or direct from Motorola. Its a different firmware version (KKW22) that has the extra watch faces.

There are several threads on Reddit saying that users have lost the extra watch faces after updating to the 4.4W.1 build.

Please help me get back stock Aviator face.

After the update to 2.0 I lost some stock faces,of course the main one I rock is Aviator. It's gone......anybody ......please......help.....
are you sure it was stock? I don't remember that face.
Definitely not stock
Yes it was completely stock. All white minimal face with analog hands, and a circular date. Maybe not called aviator, but started with an A. Lol
At night it had a black face with white hands, and during the day it had white face with black hands. I found d a video on you tube of all the faces, and I screen shot it.

Is that how the watch face looks when the watch is awake or sleep? It looks asleep to me. Do you have a screenshot of the awake version?
I think I found the video you were referring to. It shows 56 different watch faces. The watch definitely did not come with 56 watch faces to choose from, so some of those definitely aren't stock.

This is the awake night version. The daytime is all white, then when you cover the watch to go ambient mode it is all black and only small hash marks at each hour are lit,and the date is visible. It's a great face and uses the least battery.

Most watch faces are manufacturer specific, so it's no surprise that a watch face that allegedly came with the Huawei watch doesn't appear on your non-Huawei watch.

Wow. There it is. Well if it's in 1.5, I should be able to pull it from the 1.5 image that Google provides on the developer preview page. I should be home in about 3 hours and I'll throw it up here if no one else beats me to it.
As for there being a difference in the Taiwanese version of the software, I doubt that since Google only provides Chinese and all other regions firmwares on the dev preview page.

I'd have to sit down at my computer to figure out the specifics, but you need to be rooted, figure out what that apk file is called, and use ADB pull to get it off the watch. If you need more details than that, it's probably better if I just go through the image myself when I get home.

So I'm sorry but I'm not rooted because I'm quite scared to breaker it :/ by rooting. Having bricked watches seems to me more challenging to fix than phone ?

there's a new update today oneUI

It takes about 30 minutes between downloading and installing. Looks mostly cosmetic but they list a lot of changes. It's such a great device.
Anyone know if there's an automatic way to stop getting any notifications during an excerise routine? Sometimes when I am running, and watching the excercise screen for heart rate etc, ssung health suddenly decides I have 'reached my daily target' or an email comes in, and then it won't switch back to only showing excerise, which is what I want, and if you are running you can't just stop and try to figure it out, or hit back and it thinks you are pausing or ending the run!
Lucky you got the update. We still haven't received anything. Hopefully, it rolls-out soon. Anyhow is there a way to manually update it?
Yes it is easy, install xar csc, there is tutorial on xda for gear s3, same for galaxy watch and you always get updates 1st.
Watch is smoother on one ui, s health redesigned, and on phone's s health now you cant choose manually between watch and phone steps, there is only allbsteps and mobile phone steps.

The only way to download and install updates is to open the Galaxy Wearable app.
Then: About watch > Update watch software > Update now.

Not exactly true. One can use SamFirm (or any firmware site) to download the latest full image, then use NetODIN to flash the watch (though it's not the easiest solution).
Another, even hackier solution is to use the very well hidden POGO pin port on the back of the watch. It's under a small hatch at the bottom strap's connection point. It matches the pinout of the first Gear S watch, so if you have a dock for that, all you need to do is pull the dock's plastic cover, then the hatch on the watch, and after making sure the pins match, you push down to make connection (and of course put it into recovery mode before doing this). This will make it appear like a regular USB device, and you can use regular ODIN to flash it.
However I couldn't find any uploads of the firmware yet.

Here's a link to it. I have it as I own an old Gear S but I don't think it's worth buying.
I also checked on SamFirm and several other websites and the OneUI update hasn't been uploaded anywhere.

It's a few dollars, and it's good to have for worst case scenarios if you flash your watch a lot. Your average Joe won't need it, but those hardcore modders like me find it a godsend
I had a Youtube video about it somewhere but it's lost in my history sadly. I'll try to find it again though.

No. Check that black little plastic rectangle at the bottom of the watch in your picture, partially covered by the hinge. It's really easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking for. Basically take the watch, turn it on its back, and look under the hinge where there's more text on the back (top says SAMSUNG GALAXY WATCH, you need the other side where the serial number, model number, etc. are), and you'll spot that cutout. You need to pop that out, and you'll find 5 POGO pin connectors. It's the same pins as on the Gear S, however I can't remember unfortunately what's the pinout on the watch itself, how to match it with the dock's pins. I'll try to find said video, hopefully I can.
EDIT:
First picture in this post shows the POGO pin pads with the cover hatch removed: https://forum.xda-developers.com/smartwatch/gear-s3/sm-r765f-teardown-t3659431

I'd assume that the POGO pin connectors are located underneath this latch if that is what you mean.
EDIT: Just seen fonix's post, sorry.

Yes it can, i tried searching for the Gear S (SM-R750) firmware and it was available for download.
BUT I also tried searching for the Galaxy Watch (SM-R800) and the tool just returned errors.

Nobody
I wasn't so sure Apple boy.
Any news on that, and why would no one need it? I tried to install some of the gt2 pro faces but none worked complaining about different resolution.
So we definetely need a 3 pro watch faces collection.
Is the GT 3 so unpopular?
I am interested. The gt3 and 3 was just released last week by huawei Canada so I am sure other Canadians will be also interested
Having now got the GT 3, I am interested in new watch faces. So please make some & post on here
If not on here where can we can them?

No Where. No one seems to care about this watch so no one is making watch faces for it.
That

It's a shame because it's a very good watch.
I don't understand this thread. There's a lot watchfaces for Huawei Watch 3/3 Pro on Telegram, etc. You can make your own watchface also. Use google search.

It is really a disappointment even from Huawei, no update from October, I've sent a feedback to them and they dont care about this.
Really disappointed that I've purchased this, but there are 0 to none good alternatives, Android Wear watches have bad battery life, Sammy watches looks like a toy, and other brands are sport only.
