phone reset settings after reboot - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Is anybody else having this issue? Everytime when I reboot my phone some of my settings gets reset. Stuff like unknown sources, auto brightness, things like that. It was like this when I first took the phone out of the box and when I flash the unlocked firmware. Wouldn't matter.

Same issue here, would like a solution

Yeah I've had this also. Mostly accessibility settings. I had narrowed down a potential culprit but forgot what I thought it was. Well come in next time I get a sec to troubleshoot

Actually. I just remembered. It happens for me whenever Battery Savings Mode is turned on, specifically, Maximum. I didn't test mid setting but when you have battery power settings that kick in I'd guess it has something to do with whatever they manipulate in Biometrics. Checked settings before, tried during but can't accrss, and after maximum battery saving was on. Afterward my accessibility services first didn't show up but when they did every one was off except Tasker for some reason. I have 4-5 others that were reset to off

[Q] Don't know what to do anymore...

Hello Everyone,
Problem: Set up a word password for the lock screen, forgot the password, entered as many times what I could try to remember, couldn't remember it at all, forgot password option never appeared. Had data on sdcard so didn't care if I'm going to hard reset the phone.
From CWM Recovery 6.0.1.2 did the following ( a lot of times ) : wipe data/factory reset , wipe cache partition , format /system, format /cache, format /data, format /sdcard, format /external_sd as well ( different card ). Rebooted. Everything seemed normal, initial setup, google account, date/time, location/gps. browsing through the phone until the 30seconds backlight timeout passed and screen went off. I press unlock/power button and viola, password prompt back again. WTF ? I DID everything.. did the same thing again, this time, after the initial setup, did samsung's code *2767*3855#, started automatically doing factory reset. again after this, initial setup and still password prompt. did this again, went into settings and change screen lock, and it said to enter password. Seeing that's not helping, downloaded a stock rom, and flashed it through odin 4.43. everything seemed good until again went to screen lock settings and same thing. after screen went black, the same thing.
rooted again, installed cwm, flashed custom rom bagux-project-rom-v1.4, seemed good until went to settings and prompt there as well as screen went black turned it on and prompt again.
gbsIII rom - same problem
cow rom - same problem
ehndroix 12.9.13 - same problem
f.a.w. ris4 - same problem all these roms based on 2.3.6/2.3.7
flashed ancora_signed(cyanogenmod) - NO PROBLEM
flashed cm-9 experimental - NO PROBLEM
flashed RemICS_1.7 - NO PROBLEM
Problem is that I really want ENERGY SAVING OPTIONS because that way the battery lasted me two full days on normal/median usage, texting calling wifi and 3G. ICS DO NOT HAVE THIS AND therefore my battery on the same type of activity lasts not even a day.
ALSO, Somehow, wifi drastically downgraded it's performance meaning it takes really long to turn on, sometimes scans sometimes doesn't, when there is 100% a signal in one spot, it won't find it at all, and other time it will and the worse part is that when it connects, and connection is, ip and everything good, internet doesn't work. < this only on ICS or cyanogenmod. < but this is not what I'm concerned about. Just saying if It might help.
I don't know what to do anymore... I'm not a noob at this because I have rooted MYSELF and flashed roms and other stuff to Samsung Gio Samsung Galaxy S II and Htc Desire-Z (a7272) and now I have my wonder I8150 and this is just SHOCKING TO ME. I really did not expect something like this...
it looks like something easy to fix however on the other side..i don't know.. maybe I am not doing an extra step ?
Please, I really need assistance..
So let me get this straight. You couldn't get rid of your lockscreen in any GB rom, then decided to flash an ICS rom and it worked but you want to save battery. Then you discovered the wifi problem and you don't know what to do. Right?

So because you didn't reply as fast as i thought, i will just answer what i understood.
1-about your lockscreen problem, this is might be because of a restore you previously set to automatic. I actually don't have any other reason cuz this just never happened to me or ever heard of it.
2- And about the power saving you want to have in ICS. I have tried that build-in power saver, it doesn't work as well as some other power savers from the playstore.
Adding to (2) i don't use any power saver cuz they just turn down your phone's speed to save battery. I use setcpu (app from playstore) to create different profiles that work in different times (like when screen is off speed goes down as i don't need it and when screen is on speed comes back up).
3- The wifi problem you only noticed in ICS because its a bug in arco's kernel which almost every JB/ICS kernel is based on, but don't worry arco will soon find a cure. But until then, when this happens just long press the wifi icon in the statusbar and it will open the wifi settings, which will start an automatic search and connect from there.
Sorry for not waiting, i'm still 15 and have a test tomorrow and highschool life to worry about

Hey &Amada
Thanks for replying and to my response time, I just got home, lol..
The problem I have is with the lockscreen (password prompt). if I flash a stock or custom gb rom, the lockscreen ( password prompt )turns on after the screen turns black ( after 30 seconds ) and returning to the "restore / backup , I didn't set it all, it was already ticked, the automatic part, on every gb rom too and worse was I couldn't untick it...
Right now I have ICS ancora beta 3 and there is a "performance" tab in settings before "about phone" and in thereis processor - change cpu governor and clock speed and types like consevative ondemand performance interactive powersave and minimum cpu frequency and max and set on boot. If setting a lower clock when screen is off would improve my battery or at least I would notice it then I would go for it but here's a great example. right now, on ics, when i take out the usb charger cable from phone, the second i take it out, 100% drops to 99%. in gb rom, stayed on 100% for about 30minutes minimum. just comparing. and this is on the same usage.
I went to a service guy, which my friend from school knows and recommendem I'm 18 btw and in high school as well and he said it might be faulty cache ( the memory part ) because it's similar to people's dead sdcards in phones and password prompts appear for them and the phone interprets it as a security exploit or break and therefore takes it as a password prompt.
& to the wifi, it's not a big problem, but it is annoying.

Okay, maybe you could go back to gb or JB i am using pacman and it rocks i didn't face the wifi problem since flashed.
But if you really want to go back to gb here is my suggestion:
You said that after you flashed gb with sometime, the lockscreen comes back. So just as soon as you reboot from flashing just install a lock screen replacement from the market or such. And make sure they can be toggled in the accessibility section of the settings. That way it will automatically disable the lockscreen even if it comes back

Hey, I tried "MyLock utilities" but it did not work.. apps aren't an answer to keep bypassing the screen lock all the time.. I don't get why the phone "remembers" the password even though it's formatted... faulty memory ?

Vibration motor

So a couple of weeks ago my motor went out, completely dead. Then a couple of days ago it would come back for like 6 secs then it would go away. Is there a trick that I can do for it to make it stick? I don't really want another device because I have already paid over 100 in the past to s-off my previous phone lol. I know I could probably have it sent in but I can't be without a phone due to my job. Thanks guys
Have you used the HTC test mode to toggle and test the individual parts of the device ?
You mentioned s-off...which obviously means you have flashed software and/or firmware to the device..
That being said....a test session on the device may reveal a working motor....but your current software or OS condition may be causing a failure...
Another area you should check is powersave mode...when enabled will shut down your vibration mode...
Yet another area to check...
If rooted and running any application that affects battery or usage of the battery can trigger a false power save...
Wakelocks can also cause running issues..
A lot to ponder there...but a few areas need to be looked at before we decide that your device is defective...especially if it's modified at all...g

I'm running viper 4.2.1
Htc m9
Twrp - latest Verizon
I don't have any apps that affect the kernel or anything. I didn't think about wake locks. Thanks for the help!
Oh I have run the test, it won't vibrate. If I shake the device and run the test it will vibrate for a few seconds. Ugh.. I'm trying to get over it lol
Dang...
Looks like your homework is done on it..
Could be a genuine failure...
One last option...if you like a lot of work....lol
Flash a bone stock RUU...and you'll know for sure...
I did that last week when my prox sensor freaked out...
It was a dirty flash...and the reflash fixed it..
This M9 is the most finicky device I've ever used...
Your call of course...g
It's just the motor. I've read about loads of faulty ones especially on launch devices.
Mine works but barely. You can't ever feel it in your pocket or hear it if it vibrates on a table or anything.
For a flagship device....that motor should be a forever working deal...
HTC went cheap on several parts in this device it would seem...g
I just sent mine in for this. Covered by warranty they said. Supposedly they aren't going to use my uh oh replacement

"Always On" feature in huawei watch doesnot work

Hi,
I am facing a big problem with Huawei watch.
After i charge the watch, Always On feature doesnot work even if those options are turned on.
I have to Factory Reset the watch every time i charge it, to make that feature work.
I love this watch and am very much worried.
Please suggest any solution. Thank you.

Could you have interfering software? Also when you say factory reset do you really mean factor reset or just reboot?
Hi,
I have recently started facing the same issue. I have been using this watch for 6 months but since yesterday it has been turning the screen off after 5-10 seconds (even if AlwaysOn is marked as On). It worked on the same watch face perfectly fine till a few days back. I don't think any software updates were pushed recently. Haven't tried a factory reset yet but changed watch faces and didn't work.
Also I'm in the same boat as @getchethanbr, bought this watch in the US and am now in India.
EDIT: Last I remember that I was running low on batter two says back and the watch gave an option of Batter Saver (OR Boost) and I turned it ON. Now I can't find the setting. May be that is the one turning off screen to save battery. Does any one remember such a setting?

I think my case is suspiciously similar to http://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-watch/help/watch-stuck-battery-saver-mode-t3344409. If I find a solution to it, I will post back.
Look in the watch developer options for the Ambient enabled/disabled setting.
It looks like this problem already figured out, but read in that other thread that you have to drain battery until you see the 'battery saver card' again and swipe over to 'disable' ... someone in other thread mentioned this toggle option probably left out by accident in an update

Unknown wakelock keeps pixel awake 100% of the time

Hello guys,
I have encountered this 9-0022 kernel wakelock ever since I purchased this Pixel XL, and it keeps my device awake all the time.
It persists no matter how many times I factory reset or flashed a different factory image.
Google shows no answer of what it is and how to block it.
Has anyone faced this problem?

You flash stock firmware, roms etc and reset, and problem persists? Have you considered that there's no feasible way to remedy this? As in, your phone has defective hardware?
Otherwise, it would have to be a phone hacked by CIA with custom hardware that is impervious to resets and firmware flashes.
Think about it...
Contact google and there pretty easy going and will go out of there way replace phone.Ive went threw 5 pixel and every time they have jump threw hoops to make me happy.Phone returned 3-5 days every time.
Maybe it's malware!?

That could probably right.
At first, my device kept showing a persistent notification "USB Supplying Power to attached device",
And I could not charge my device unless I reboot (then it will appear again later).
I googled & figured some people had the same problem and got it solved by cleaning the charging port
on the phone so I did the same.
It stills show up time after time, but now I can choose to "charge this device" from the popup & charge fine.
But the kernel wakelock, which I believe belongs to usb otg or something like that, still keeps my device awake 100% of the time, and drain the battery.

Maybe not.
It happens no matter what rom, kernel I'm on.
Since I had the persistent "USB Supplying Power to attached device" time after time,
it's likely that wakelock thinks I'm plugging something into the usb port all the time,
and keeps my devices awake.
I've cleaned the port with tooth pick, some alcohol & air duster but the wakelock hasn't gone away.
Caused by USB I've seen before in BBS thread, I think it's due to a poor USB port on the device contact Google to see your options
I agree @liam_davenport. I did a little digging through some xda threads and people claimed they had that wakelock if they plugged their phone in wrong, do to the USB port being sloppy. There is also something in our device tree called "tcpm logging" that is related to that number, doing a little research now to see what it is/does.
let me talk to my cousin,he works at google.Let me throw problem at him

I've only heard of this problem with people running Android P preview2. It seems using the finger unlock on back of phone, some people tap it when the screen begings to dim and taping fingerprint brightens screen. But what I was thinking, that doing that even without preview2 might cause similar effect.
So you could try disabling that feature might help. It seems that their connected somehow.

Recent apps not showing

Whenever I click on recent apps the phone shows no recent apps..after I first encountered this issue I did a factory reset and it worked for 24 hrs and then I have the same issue... Phone is on latest update.
I also faced this issue. I could pinpoint to some changes made in my Settings, and after I reverted these I got it all back. Now which really effects is a wide window, but I could broadly point it to display settings and few apps which I had disabled. So, you may try re-enabling any disabled apps and reverting settings one-by-one.
Splendid colour settings was the last I enabled, but now I haven't faced this issue again.

My issue was resolved by but it happened all of a sudden
I am trying to replicate the issue, if I make some headway I will post it.
Dont know how its happen, when phone keep in safe mode..and after restarting from safe mode its working now.
I have faced this issue twice. I am not sure on the resolution. I personally had to reset it both the times to get it working. As far as the cause goes... The first time I faced the issue when I tried to install XDA gesture navbar app. Even after uninstalling the app the recent button didn't work. I can confirm before that the recent button was working.
The second time was the next day itself. I factory resetted the phone and I was on my way to office in bus when I decided to install a oreo launcher 'Launcher oreo 8.1' which i used flawlessly on my moto g5 plus. And after installation of oreo launcher and setting it as default launcher my recent apps was gone. The problem started occuring. As you may have guessed uninstalling it didint help. After that I have not installed any launchers and everything is working fine. This weekend I will try to recreate the scenario and see if I can find any resolution to this. I thought it was a unique problem to my device and it occurred for the tweaking and everything. But now it seems that other people are also facing these issues with different triggers.
I am facing the same issue. It happened all of a sudden today. I did not install anything new.
Any tips to resolve this except from factory reset?
Please help!

Booting into safe mode works. First power off normally, then hold power button to power on, release it when the Asus logo comes and hold down volume down button( dont press power button). Then use the recent apps button and restart normally.
I faced the same issue after the OTA update but this fix has been working for the last 5 hours just fine.
for rebooting in safe mode, press and hold power button>press and hold on power off option>pop up appear to go in safe mode
Disable zenmotion and reboot. Worked for me. What a broken phone!
