Verizon s8+ to Tmobile s8+ QUESTIONS - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Hey guys so i got the verizon s8+ and i was wondering if i flashed
Galaxy S8+ SM-G955U 07.06.2017 7.0 USA (T-Mobile) (TMB) G955USQU1AQEF
Galaxy S8+ SM-G955U 01.05.2017 7.0 USA (T-Mobile) (TMB) G955USQU1AQDE
would i be able to get WIFI CALLING, HD CALLING, BAND 12 working by just flashing this? i dont care about bloatware.
I saw a thread about switching to carriers however you need ENGBOOT, FACTORY BINARY, 955W firmware and stock and modified odin.
however the issues with this is i dont understand what this engboot and factory binary are and why i would need them. I also do not know where to get those and the stock odin.
Can anybody help?

I believe engboot and factory binary gives you freedom to change CSC Code as directed to that of a carrier you want to chance to.

Yes to WiFi calling, HD calling and band 12. I did it. But i did the complete method with engboot and factory binary. It was actually quite easy once you have the files and understand the process.

could you direct me to where i can get the files?

I couldn't get through tmobile firmware to load, had issues with a couple of steps. What I was able to do was load the unlocked 955U firmware. When I did that with my tmobile SIM, the phone upgraded to tmobile picking up the network from the sim. YMMV

Wondering if any one flash US unlocked version phone to t-mobile firmware ?

I have the US Unlocked version and flashed it to T-Mobile today. No issues and no it won't trip KNOX. You have to unlock the bootloader or flash unofficial firmware or root to trip KNOX. This is all official firmware. Great question though. I know others have been concerned about that too.

Galaxy S4 ATT, install T-mobile Stock ROM?

I unlocked a Galaxy S4 SGH-I337 FROM ATT I am using Tmobile services.
My question is can I install a Stock ROM from TMobile instead of having the ATT one?
I like the Wifi Calling and Tethering option.
I can tell you... But I have a LOT of readers who want to know how to do what you have already done! How did you SIM unlock your SGH-I337? There is a published method for AT&T and TMo that seems to no longer work on the AT&T variant.
OK.. I won't hold you hostage, but I really would like to know!
For the flash to stock, just head over here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2267895
Follow the instructions and that will re-flash T-Mobile stock everything.

Yes. But also check this thread. The AT&T boot loader is locked and may require Loki Doki patch when you are done.

.... I may be wrong here, but since when has it been OK to Odin different carrier's stock .tars? Flashable CWM zips yes, but the bone stock tar with modem, baseband, etc?
Also, being that you have TMO service and an ATT device; flashing a TMO ROM with WiFi calling should work; just use an ATT kernel and the Loki patch. Personally, I'd flash the rooted stock MDL or a custom TouchWiz via CWM or whatever recovery you happen to use and not use Odin.

Since wjenmisnit OK to do it differently?
It is only OK to do when you know what you are doing. In this case the hardware is absolutely identical. You're not going to be using AT&Ts baseband firmware on the T-Mobile network are you? Good luck with that.

i have the i337 ATT and I am using a Tmobile sim card. Just youtube "unlock galaxy s4 AT&T". There are plenty of videos that use a secret menu to unlock the phone.
Free and instant
I also have AT&T i337 unlocked BUT
I also have AT&T i337 unlocked BUT when I try to use it with MetroPCS (same tower as T-Mobile - companies now merged) I can't get anything but Edge network where on my MetroPCS-supplied phone I get 4G (LTE only rarely) in the same areas. Edge network is ridiculous - can't even load a standard webpage- forget about watching a video! ookla =0.01mps!
So I have an unusable rooted, unlocked S4.
I've tried various APN settings to no avail... Thought I would try liquidsmooth ROM, or any ROM that works on both AT&T and T-Mobile... I assume T-Mobile /MetroPCS would react the same. And I am on a pay as you go plan that is similar to T-Mobile's s. I could easily switch to them if not...
Questions:
Has anyone any advice that could help?
Does anyone know if T-Mobile requires a "pairing" of sim card with phone's IMEI as MetroPCS does? (big pain in the butt)
I've done the same thing flashed roms, Modems, To my luck nothing, I did filing that since I repaired the imei, That is when the problem started. Also to does not tie imei to sims. Did you repair imei

Easy free Sim unlock
Just wanted to point out that if you know someone who has AT&T service they can unlock your phone for free My girlfriend did it for me on their website and it took 24 hours for them to send an email with the unlock code. Just thought i should share that. Up next getting this t-mobile rom onto my 32gb i337 at 4.4.2 with NB1. I hate everything AT&T and God is this phone bloated!

To be honest i can't answer your question. The phone i bought was from a guy who sold it to me out of eBay with a none working screen, he had the imei in the pics so i ran an imei blacklist check and it was clean. I asked him why he didn't fix it and said it was out of warranty so he just left it dead. I guess it was paid for but in his account so it was free for anyone to use but letting my girl do the unlock request worked so if you have a phone that's not blacklisted and you its not associated to an active account I guess it could be done. Try it, it's worth the try.

Very first post, not sure if I should have started a new thread. Anyway, I have an ATT S4 I337 with the MF3 baseband. It's rooted, region unlocked, and fully switched to t-mobile service using a method I found on youtube, which worked fairly well except had to modify two things (I can help if you're having trouble). Now I'd like to upgrade firmware (I'm still on 4.2.2). However, I have a lot of uncertainty because of all the changes I've made. If I temporarily unroot, who am I going to get updates from? Do I need TMO or ATT custom ROMs if I want custom (have they solved that bootloader issue yet?). Basically, what's the safest way to update firmware?
Thanks in advance

The above also omits that if you are on Android 4.3.X than the bootloader on your Samsung Galaxy S4 contains a bootloader restriction preventing any downgrade which means you would be unable to flash MDL (ie. M919UVUAMDL) since MDL is Android 4.2.2.
Does anyone know a way around this bootloader restriction thereby allowing a downgrade to 4.2.2?
att i337 to t-mob stock
Hi, Im pretty new to this firmware and different model numbers etc.. but here goes. I bought a samsung s4 on att i337 a few months ago off a friend. I paid an online company for the unlock code and received the code within 24 hours. The phone is now unlocked and I have a T-mob sim in it, i'm now looking to update the firmware to t-mobile 4.4.4. Can i download a t-mob stock rom for i337?? I'm worried that this might break the phone as everything I see for t-mob is SGH-M919. Should this matter now that the phone is unlocked?? Thanks
No, you need to use ATT firmware due to hardware differences (antenna/radio). Also as I recall ATT S4s have a locked bootloader meaning only safestrap compatible ROMs can be used, unless something changed since I had one last summer. Sold it, on Swappa, and bought a TMob version with unlocked boot loader and sim unlocked!

Hi! I am having major issues with my s4 i337 after switching from att to tmobile. The phone was unlocked so I took it upon myself to unlock it. It is unlocked but sometimes or rather most of the time does not pick up the network. When it does have data connection, it is Edge. I flashed the NC1 to root my phone, then reflashed to NJ4 (to unlock) but now nothing works. No wifi, camera fails, no multitasker, no voice assistant. Please help!!!!! I don't know what to do. I should have never unrooted it to unlock. I should have paid the $35 to get an unlock code. Can I fix this?

I am not sure. I flashed NB1 as suggested by another forum member and everything is working once again. Although it went back to 4.4.2.
Now it has this notification : security notice: unauthorized actions have been detected. It wants me to reboot to revert the changes. How do I make this go away and will it go back to its unusable mode if I manually reboot?

Modder Coming To Samsung From Nexus Environment, Comfused By Differences

I used to have a Nexus 7 (2012) and was rooted with TWRP and loved it. I was familier with fastboot, and liked how "open" everything was in the Nexus environment. But it cracked and I upgraded to the Tab S 16GB (Verizon). I wasen't about to hack my new $600 device, so I waited a while and have been out of the loop. Well I have been considering rooting it so I can install all apps fully to the SD card due to lack of space. And also maybe get a custom ROM based on android M.
It looks like Samsung devices don't have fastboot, and i stead have download mode, and ODIN. Are they the same thing? One time I got this tablet stuck in download mode, and it was really hard to get out.
Also, I don't see the stock ROM for the Verizon version online. I can only get it OTA. Is the ROM the same as the sprint version, just with different bloastware? Both are CDMA. I don't understand what carriers work with what ROMs.
Could you please get me back in the loop on the Samsung (non-Nexus) side? I will probably have a lot of basic questions at first.
Go to the developer section of this forum. We'll find rooting instructions, TWRP recovery and a working a working marshmallow aosp ROM that will make your S1 feel like a Nexus. Double check that others have had success with your model including LTE. Good luck.

If you got the Verizon device, it is fully locked down and you cannot flash ANYTHING or root it at all.
Ditto on the above comment. The CDMA/cellular versions of the Tab S have the least amount of support. They don't have the same processor as the wifi versions (snapdragon in cellular, exynos in wifi).
I also have a Nexus 7 (2012) that's TWRP'd with a custom MM rom. I also TWRP'd and ROM'd a Nexus 4 and 7 (2013). Doing the same to a Samsung device is just as easy, except for KNOX (if you care about warranty).
You're only hope of root for that device is Kingroot.

What makes you think that? In what way is it locked that the WiFi version isn't? I don't care about tripping Knox. I remember hearing when I was researching which one to buy that the AT&T version was locked, but the verizon one wasn't. Which is why I bought it. But maybe they meant the SIM was unlocked, not the boot loader. Are any of the T807's really unlocked.

Yeah, mine has the snapdragon 800, but I thought the AT&T version had the Exynos. I am doing more research and I see there is now an unlocked LTE model that even has native voice support (T805). Did this one come out later? I wanted an LTE one in 2014, but I thought you had to buy a T807 through either Verizon, AT&t, T-Mobile, or Sprint. So I got the Verizon one

From what I understand, KingRoot, uses an exploit in the stock ROM to obtain root without tripping KNOX, or custom recovery. Correct?

So when you say "locked", you mean ODIN will refuse to flash an unofficial ROM? Wouldn't that mean it's impossible to trip Knox then?

I think the T805 is the only truly unlocked device with no carrier restrictions and can make and receive calls and texts.

SM-G955U being used abroad problems

I purchased an S8+ which happens to be an SM-G955U. Thought i was purchasing an international unlocked version, but got the US unlocked version rather. I get this notification for Sprint OMADM constantly in my notification window and sometimes when I reboot the device. The phone works properly though.
My questions are.
1. Will I get full OTA support as on an international unlocked version.
Example. I notice that I only have the June security patch level, whilst my international unlocked note 5 has a more recent version.
2. Will this sprint notification eventually lock up my device sometime in the future?.
3. How do I get rid of this Sprint notification in my notification panel and popping up constantly?.
4. Can I still use this device when I visit the US without some changes being made to my device OTA?.
5. When I make a call. In the right upper corner it says attempting and not dialing. The call however does go through. Is this normal?.
Thanks
The best way is to flash it with the U1 firmware. This will give you the unlocked version of software. If you are on U software my guess is that you have the Sprint version of software.
My firmware version is G955USQU1AQFJ.
There is a U1 in there so I assume I'm on the U1 version.correct me if I'm wrong.
Will this receive OTA updates?.
Thanks
I am on AQG2. That is the us unlocked firmware. Use updato to find it.
---------- Post added at 04:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:06 PM ----------
Look for the one that says XAA. That is the generic USA unlocked firmware.
Thanks. Found it. Can you point me to a thread where someone has attempted this successfully on the G955U S8+ snapdragon 835 to do a bit more research before i attempt the firmware update.
I am particularly concerning about OTA updates after the firmware update.

Just bought a phone. The model #'s are different, and it appears to be rooted.

Just bought a note 4 off the net. It is in excellent condition and is running on 5.0.1. The model #is sm-n910v, verizon. I have not yet put the sim in it- waiting on an adapter because the sim is a nano. I wanted to root it and unlock the bootloader to upgrade the ROM. While researching a procedure for this I have installed Phone Info☆Samsung☆ app and eMMc Brick Bug. In the Info app the device type is (trltvzw). In the Brick Bug app it is (trltexx). Curious. I installed RootChecker and it says the phone is rooted. Don't know what trltexx is. Should I try to unlock the bootloader or has that been done already too. Don't know what to do. I want to put a custom ROM in.
Trltexx is the international version. Trltevzw is the Verizon Variant. I rooted my note 4, but i just got a note 8. I'm new to all of this but i believe that with those not matching you will have trouble provisioning that phone on the Verizon network . Maybe someone who knows more will chime in.
Get the Samsung info app in the play store and post a screen shot if your able.

ok so your on a really old bootloader and trltexx is just the international models id and thats ok if your rooted its most likely with supersu so try installing it launching it should try to update its binary. I dont know anything about that bootloader though man all the development centers around 5.1.1 (bpa1) which is depreciated current development is 6.0.1 so .....not sure what good root does you at 5.0.1 . You will have to unlock at 5.1.1 and then again at 6.0.1 to keep it so root isnt relevant making my supersu suggestion kind of dumb . Sorry about that

Okay, with the help of this forum what I did was wipe and install 5.1.1. Temp root (Kingoroot), unlock bootloader. Install TWRP and flash 5.1.1 with 6.0.1 bootchain. Temp root same as before and unlock again. Re-install TWRP and flashed MODEST ROM with new partial firmware. It is working great. Thanks everybody, this forum is awesome and loaded with good information. Cheers!

+1 for me. Ive spent almost 2 years and 3 phones trying to get an answer to this. My note 8 had this problem, then my note 10+, then the replacement note 10+. At&t blames Samsung, then Samsung blames at&t, over and over and over. I even had a Samsung technician sit in on a 3 way call with an at&t technician for the better part of an hour. The last I heard was that at&t was petitioning samsung to fix something on their end because at&t shows that everything is up to date on my phone but its not. Im looking into Odin too because this is getting stupid.
At&t is horrible with OTA's. They work for some but for a lot of people it does not, and I am one of them. At&t has never been able to give me an answer as to why this happened on my Note 8..9..and 10+.
Odin is very easy. You dont have to use At&t firmware you can use any Snapdragon US firmware they are the same. Once its installed, it will provision to you sim. There are many threads that have the firmware needed or just us Frija to download the firmware. Once downloaded you need to extract the files. You will have BL..AP..CP..CSC...HOME_csc. You need to download the correct version of Odin to flash the firmware. Open Odin put device in download mode connect device. Once odin recognizes devices find where you extracted the firmware. In odin put BL in BL spot..AP in AP spot..CP in Cp spot. If you want to save data, put HOME_csc in CSC spot. If you want clean install put CSC in CSC spot as it will wipe device. Once you have everything where it should be click start and Odin will flash the firmware. Once complete Odin will say PASS at top left..boot time should take a few minutes. But remember if the firmware you flash has a higher bootloader you cant downgrade back to previous version.

So I can use a verizon csc and it will work on a att branded phone? Or is a generic one better?
Edit
Basically which one do you pick. I'm leaning towards a tmobile because it sounds like the included bloatware is smaller.
I have At&t device purchased at At&t. I have used USC..Tmobile..Verizon. The device will provision to your sim. If you dont want bloat just flash U1 firmware. But I think you will lose advanced features like wifi calling if you do. I cant remember if flashing a (U) csc with U1 firmware brings back advanced features. But prob just stick with 1 firmware until you have a understanding on how to do this...Good luck.

I actually went ahead and did this last night with the tmobile firmware and it was just as easy as you said. For whatever reason I didn't even get any bloatware. It booted up with the at&t logo and sound, and my software version says att/att/att. I put my sim card back in and there were no special notifications or anything, everything just worked. I wonder if Frija gave me the att firmware despite me putting in tmb? Either way, everything is up to day now. Thanks for the help!
Anytime my friend glad it all worked out[emoji106]

Hi I have the same problem. I flashed android 10 One UI 2.0 on my Exynos Note10+ SM-N975F last December via Odin and download the firmware from Samfrew(like Sammobile).(the firmware is the German version and I bought my phone from Egypt) Since then I didn't receive any security patch updates I only have the December 2019 one. Will it be safe if I download the latest firmware from Sammobile and flash it; the file in over 5GB , can this overwrite? I never tried to flash the same software two times. Is it safe?
As long as you are using the firmware that is for your device and your region you should be fine. Although this is Snapdragon thread I would think International flashing is same. You may want to double check in your device specific thread as I don't want to be the blame if there is something different with F version.

Also try turning off auto update date and time. Set date like 5days ahead. Then check for update. Sometimes this little trick works for OTA
