Morning all , the past 3 days I have been noticing that my Excalibur just shuts down and won't restart unless I plug it into a power source and power on.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Sounds like you need a new battery
Thanks man - any specific one you can reccomend? Reason I am asking is cause I have seen people post different battery makes, models etc..

Take a look on ebay i use a 1150mAh but go for the 2200mAh and you'll be impressed, if you do a search for battery on here you will see what people recomend.
If you are already on a spare phone, try giving your excalibur a full charge, and turn it off. Allow the battery to drain out completely. And if possible repeat this once or twice more. Complete power drain will improve the average life span, and can be done atleast every 3 months on all normal devices, so as to increase the lifespan

Nice, that is good to know... Never really knew that... Plus also I wanted to ask... is it bad to charge your phone everyday when it is like at 50% of battery life...
Nice question.
Think about a tank. You fill it with wet cement. And u take the wet cement for use slowly away. Almost as soon as the tank is 20-30 percent empty, the cement is filled gently again, so as not to shakeup the cement at the bottom. After a while the cement at the bottom hardens, and u cant get it out for use. And same happens with the total amount of cement u could pour in. Earlier if u needed 25 pots to fill it up, now it gets filled with 10 pots or so.
Now think about the battery with multiple cells arranged inside. You fill it up. Then u use up the top 3-4 rows of small cells, and immediately fill those cells right back. This keeps on happening. What happens is that, the cells at the lower rows are never emptied, and the charge remains static there forever, and after a while the cells just freeze up. Meaning, it is not possible anymore to fill them up, or to use up the containing charge. So when u start filling up, the battery says charged fully pretty soon, cos there are less cells to fill up, and good enough, the charge falls dead soon too.
The above analogy was true on the days on Nickel Cadmium batteries. Now a days with Lithium polymer batteries, what they say is the charge is not stationary at one particular site and keeps on revolving all inside, so there is no question of dead cells arising. Well theoretically yes, but practically what the geeks suggest is to charge the battery only after completely draining it. Well, not really feasible with our busy lifestyles, as we cannot start a day taking the 30 percent battery with us.
This is what I have been doing, Charge it up as much as I need it during the weekdays. During weekends, when I am near a powersource, I keep it until it drains as much as empty. And once every 2-3 months, I try to make it empty fullest.
So I guess, it is more of a personal choice of ease also. Though the current dictum is that, charging the batteries at whatever level is ok, experience has shown many users to allow complete drain occasionally

The typical duration and lifespan of a battery depends mainly on the capacity first of all, the more milliamps u have, the long lasting a battery is. Also the average life depends a lot of the number of charge cycles. Means, if u r a light user, u wnt have to charge it every now and then, the batt will slowly discharge, and then u charge it once or twice in a week.
For heavy users,at times myself included, I put it on charer more than once in a day. There the total number of chare cycles that the battery is alloted gets used up early, and the battery dies early.
A third factor is the amount of load we give to the OS. Not just playing heavy games or apps, but making calls in low reception areas as well as placing our hands over the antenna portion of the celphone while making calls, increase the load, and cause the battery to drain faster

i have the same problem with my phone just shutting off after about an hour on, only turning back on when plugged into a power source.
i've got a 2200ma battery on the way and i can't effing wait for it to get here.... i really hope it solves the problem cuz i already reinstalled the kavana rom thinking it was a software bug. reinstalling gave it a breath of fresh air nonetheless, while its on. lol

Hey man - please reply on this post when you get the battery replacement to let us know if that helped solve the issue. If not i'll have to jump in the market for a new smartphone.
Theres nothing worse than being on a business call and you loose the call - and your phone usability with no power source around.

yea i can deal with a call being dropped. but when the whole phone shuts off and when it wakes up ive got a message or a voicemail. thats the worst.
i have an old ericsson phone. maybe i'll throw that against the wall to take out my frustrations >=o lmao

so please advise or tell me if im wrong. the 2200ma came with a 3/4 charge on it. i should use it until dead. then recharge. then tell dead, then recharge, and finally do taht a third time, before i even charge it while it still has a charge right?

Yah you should do that... let it die 3 times and charge it fully, also do this about once every 2 weeks I would recommend okay... or whenever you can...

Hi, I am noticing that my battery life is very short. I have to charge my phone atleast twice a day. Last night I watched a program on my phone which was forty minutes long. After that my battery was already 60 percent about. However.now, in the morning, I woke up and checked one thing on the internet by 3g and now my battery is already 40 percent. Why is this .... I know that battery life on here is not good but mine seems worse.
Is anyone getting the same?

- Do you allow background data?
- Do you always synchronize?
- Do you enable data connection?
- Do you connected to the Wi-Fi all the time?
I swear my battery life is far far better since i put that Generic rom on, maybe the minor updates htc have released help battery life ?
Maybe the update will fix the battery life issue? We'll see when it rolls out on t-mobile handsets.
Other people have reported excellent battery life (mine only arrived today) and it seems to improve over time. How long have you had it?
I had mine 1 week today was originally on the T-Mobile rom and have had terrible battery life up to even yesterday, updated to the Generic Rom yesterday and it honestly seems to last longer now.

I was waiting for someone to report this before I did .. I too was originally on the T-mobile ROM and updated to the Generic ROM. I didn't notice any increase in battery life. In fact I didn't notice any changes apart from the minor T-mobile branding having gone.
Yesterday I did the OTA update and again didn't notice any changes. I did this morning though, in 10 hours the battery only dropped 4%. Of course the phone hadn't been used in that time and I have wi-fi and bluetooth switched off but I am sure this is a lot better than I was getting.
Maybe the OTA update has improved battery life. Let's hope so.

Yes to without T-Mobile stuff.
You can download it in the Android Dev Desire section on here. There are extra steps to take.
It WILL void your warranty.
Anyone that got their phone direct from T-Mob will NOT have it unless they did it manually. And by that i mean manually flash generic rom then update.
I noticed my battery is better but it's only one day. And i never really had a problem with it. I charge once a day anyways.

Advantages. The phone is as it would come straight from the manufacturer. You will always receive updates for the device before Vodafone, O2,T-Mob etc would have them ready.
If the phone was lost then yes. If damaged...probably not but if it develops a fault you can always drop it in a drink and claim on he insurance...bit dodgy like!
My battery life story
So, I downloaded the brut Google nav mod the other day and haven't had a chance to use it until today. Took a journey which took about one hour, and made sure that my battery was fully charged before I went. I still hooked up the phone to the car charger though, to save power. One thing I noticed about charging the desire, however, is that if it identifies the battery as being already full when you connect a charger, the indicator light stays green, so doesn't top up even when you have been using it for a while. I noticed this about 20 minutes into my journey by which time the battery must have gone down quite a bit. Removing then replacing the charger sorted the problem and the Orange light indicated that it was charging again. By the time I got to my destination the battery was at about 50%.
On the return journey, I hooked up the phone again, turned on Google nav and set off. About 30 minutes into the journey I stopped off at a petrol station to grab some snacks, checked the battery and read 17%! Even though it was supposed to be charging the whole time!! I then got a message saying that the power from the car wasn't enough to charge the phone and I should attach AC power ASAP, which I obviously couldn't as I was in the car. I ignored it, got home safely enough, disconnected the charger and then watched the phone die .
Ok, so I was using gps and 3G which clearly uses up power and I guess Google nav is fairly processor hungry, but I would assume that having it connected to the car charger would be enough. Coming from a tocco ultra, I'm used to rubbish batteries, but at least that would charge up in a car.
Don't get me wrong, I still love the phone, but I just need to know if this is gonna be a regular issue, or something that can be sorted out with a Rom update.
Just for info, I've had my desire for nearly a week now on TMO using the old Rom. And, the car was Passat estate which is in very good nick, so I doubt that was the problem.

I would look if the charger really charges the phone or if it drains it also when not using GPS/Nav etc.
Reason I'm saying this is that I once bought a charger that actually drained the battery instead of charging it, while it worked fine on my older Nokia phone. I'm assuming the phone deactivates some power saving features because it thinks it's hooked up to a charger, but at the same time the charger is too weak to actually charge it.
I have not used branded rom before on this phone but the htc rom battery life is fine. Mine has been going for three days with usage fine

intresting my battery last a day
I just started charging 2nd time my battery and it lasted hmm since about 2pm till 15% at about 00.00 which is pretty much 10hours of heavy use. i did leave it on sleep for about 2 hours though and i left it at 25% and after that it had 25-24 % lol so if you turn all the updates off it will last quite a lot i guess
I rang up T-Mobile today (tech support) to ask about the lack of update considering the rom was behind the non carrier phones at the start and then an update too. They said they do work on them when they see a notable difference worth updating.
Anyway, I also said I was incredibly dissatisfied with the battery and how long it lasted and wondered if it could be to do with the ROM being well behind the stock HTC one. The tech support guy was excellent and very helpful. He said that with the type of battery in the Desire, you need to make sure you have it on a MAINS charger from quite low for a good couple of 14 hour sessions with the phone off. This builds up the charge for the battery and you should see a marked improvement. He said that most people don't bother to do that and as a result get poor performance.
He did say him and 4 members of his team have the same phone and while some of his team had battery issues he didn't. The main reason being that he had spent a few days not taking it to work and running it down in the evening then giving it three 14 hour chargers. He said that made a huge difference.
He also said if I was dissatified to a point of big frustration they would replace the phone or refund. Can't ask fairer than that

If you don't need a fully charged phone in the morning I would recommend not to do so. Try to keep the phone between 30 and 80% and only charge it to full like 2 times a month. What I read that's the best thing for all devices.

With the OnePlus 3 you won't need to charge over night as it'll be charged to 62℅ for 30mins to be precise , I used to charge over night all my. Previous phone but with the OnePlus 3 I just charge it for 25mins or something it'll be charged to 90+% as the previous day's charge would still be about 30 to 40%..

I'm not a battery guru by any means but from my personal experience with cell phones and laptops, it makes very little difference. My old phone was a Galaxy S3 (albeit no quick charge or dash charge), but was charged overnight every night for 5 years. Still on the original battery and lasts a full day with my usage (email sync, facebook, instagram, web browsing, some gaming but not a lot). Off topic, laptop was basically the same deal; actually, was used exclusively plugged in the wall for 3+ years with the battery attached, and when I took it off the charger, still got me through the 3 hours of usage (doesn't seem like a lot but the same hours of usage as if it was brand new).
i dont even charge my phone overnight anymore - just in the car w/ the Dash Car Charger for 15 minutes a day twice a day on weekdays and on weekends with the wall charger ocassionally.
i probably lose 6%-10% overnight, but it's not been an issue, idle drain and SoT are great
in terms of ideal battery health for the long term, you'd probably want to keep it between 10%-90% but you can research this yourself.

ty for your and everyone advice! , on OP store in italy we miss the dash car charge so i can just stick with the wall one. btw one last question, i have a powerbank also 10k mah ( the one on the oneplus store ) if i need recharge outside the phone with it should be ok like was with previous devices right?

Sure but it doesn't charge as quick as the dash charger (wall/car).

all my laptop i mean all as soon as i take off charger it will die in 10-30 mins thats because it was pluged into the wall brick for few years.

Actually for batteries – especially Lithium-Ion ones – this is a good thing.
With new batteries you can make a full cycle every day for 3 years and still have like 70% capacity at the end, as long as you don't go beneth 10% charge regularly.
With moderate usage and and keeping the battery in the 30 - 70% range, you can easily get 5+ years out of your battery.
This works pretty good for me with the OP3. It is just like 15 - 20 minutes of charging every day.

I think OP3 was a good choice for me as well. With my usage patterns, I'm only down to about 50% remaining after 14 hours of use.
Sorry to steal the thread but if charging overnight, is it better for the battery to use the dash charger or a regular slower charger?
I would have thought the quick charge can't be particularly good for the battery?
Hi, I'm currently experiencing some problems with my Redmi Note 8 Pro.
I've had my phone for less than a month, and it's starting to get issues with the battery.
The battery, whether I charge it with the original wall charger, or I use a computer to charge it, or o use an alternative wall charger (that is for slow charge), it can't get to 100%.
It gets stuck at 99% and says, full charge in 2 minutes, even though the 2 minutes have passed long time ago.

I'm still within the seller's warranty, but I need some advices to what can I do, because returning the phone to the seller, to make a change, is gonna cost me 15 to 20 days. And I don't have any other phone to use.

Edit 29/01/2020: I did a full discharge, because I couldn't read the quotes earlier, and I didn't realize how big the problem could be. Now, the phone can't go over 79%.
I didn't expected this issue with my RN8P, but with other phones (cheap noname ones).
A discharge to around 5%, and a full charge without unplugging did the trick for me.

When I cannot tell if its some HW related problem with your phone or battery but I am really wondering why you want to do full charges (and/or discharges)? It is known to wear battery way faster. Li-on or Li-po batteries do not have memory effects and it is known to be best to always keep them charge for example between 15-20% and 80-85% trying to never get bellow or above.
This phone has a pretty big battery, that normally should be enough to bring you through a day of normal use (if it does not you may want to check your hungry apps running in the bg) but maybe you are an heavy gamer or use your phone for some heavy usage stuff?
Even then, it would be best to do 2 quick 15 to 50-60% in about 30 mins with QC2 (18W original Wall charger) rather than one unique full charge.
Looking at what you said with slow charging you probably know all of that already, but the faster you charge the battery, even if same %, the faster it will discharge. As odd as it is, remains factual.
I dont know if you ever used an external amperemeter or similar to check what kind of current was actually going through your battery while charging, but if you do you will notice the first % goes way faster to charge than the last few %. The chip dealing with the battery charge, charges slower and slower toward the end because it could damage the battery, when on the opposite it is rather safe to quick charge the % in the middle.
Also you may want to check your alternative 'slow wall charger' to make sure it provides you with a steady voltage current (V). If it is fluctuating too much, it may damage your battery.
If you want to do further research about the subject, there is a note on the RN8PRO Telegram group explaining how to calibrate your battery by deleting some system files (root needed as far as I remember) and having some charges/discharges steps. Personally I have not done it because it requires to go to 100% and 0% a few times, and depleting a Li-ion/Li-po battery completely can damage it irreversibly. They are not meant to be discharged fully period. Now battery should not be completely drained when OS takes the phone off, that said we never know for sure since we cannot change that setting unlike on our windows laptops, but I dont want to take the risk.

In that state of things, have you tried to turn off the device without unplugging to see if the off-mode charging screen (the small battery screen with % when you turn your phone off) also remains at 99% or gets to 100% at some point? Because maybe all you need is to restart the phone to make OS aware the battery is fully charged. Could be a SW known/unknown issue/bug to be fixed with future updates for all I know.
But again, I don't think you should fully charge and/or discharge (if you do) your phone when you can avoid it.

Well, I wanted to do that full charge a/o discharge because I thought it would help with the issue (turns out, it didn't, it got worse as you said) but I didn't know the effects of this before, I always thought it wouldn't have any effect. I wish I could have read your reply before doing it (I was busy and couldn't read it).
The battery lasts for more than a day (or it did before), and I always try to keep it clean from battery draining apps, and I don't play games that much on the phone, less than an hour per day.
Do you recommend me to do those 2 charges to 60% in my state? (phone can't get over 79% now).

Hey.
Very strange what is happening to you it's probably the first time I read about something like this.
Please note I am no battery expert either.
From own experience and friends, usually when you wear a battery (or it worn by itself after use or bad storage condition before being sold) it still goes up to 100% but does not retain original design capacity anymore. The usual behavior is like for example you still have like 30% left, and suddenly it drops to like 5% and you only have a few seconds to plug it in the charger.
When that's happens it is time to change battery.
In your case I really have no idea what could prevent HW/SW to reach 100%.

Oh those are easy to use as I meant some kind of small USB device that you plug in between your charger and your phone. They are cheap and you get them for like 10 bucks on Amazon. Readings might not be 100% accurate but they still give a decent idea as they display Voltage, Amperage and accumulated capacity/used current for device plugged.

As I said I am nothing like an expert or anything so I am unsure what I can do to help. However I did check the telegram group and I confirm you the battery calibration thing is a rooted thing.
To find that group it is pretty easy just search for Redmi Note 8 Pro OFFICIAL from telegram and join the group.
You find quite a few things there.

Normally nothing you could have done, could have damaged the battery this way. Depleting it completely could have shorten its life or damage its overall capacity, but by all means there is no way in just a month you could have damaged the battery to this point. So either the OS is not reading things right (what version of OS and phone do you have - which region is your rom?) or either sensors or battery have a problem.
Since you still are under warranty period I would definitely get it replaced. Maybe you got a faulty batch or something. This happens.

This definitely cannot hurt to try.
If that does not work return the phone.
Just to know, based on your flag I would assume you are in Chile but I may be wrong. If I am not mistaking it is summer there and probably is pretty hot. I wonder if 'too hot' could damage the battery.

I have been with the phone for less than one week and I am checking that the battery capacity is not the same as the one that is stated by Nubia. It should be 4500 mah but I have 4000 according to the accu battery app.
Can someone please double check this capacity in your phones?

the Capaacity on mine is quite good. i think less than 3% when full its 4370mah or around that the last time i checked.
its possible you've charged it at poor intervals. and maybe used a speed charger of some kind.
for the health of the battery and to test. do this for the next 3 or so days.
during the day try to get the phone to around 5% (no lower than 3%) try not to do this fast like with gaming heavy or whatever.
then connect to a slow charger 2 or 3 amps max. and allow to charge to 100% without using the phone. allow 10 minutes grace time after the phone is fully charged to allow the battery to cool a little.
then again use the phone as you would, up to 5% again. and repeat the process 3 times. then check your capacity. that will be your real capacity. if you follow those steps exactly.

Thanks for your feedback. You are kind of right about the fast charger. I iused the 65w PD usb of my Lenovo laptop which really charged the device at full speed.

I have done 3 slow charge discharge intervals and the data in the accu battery app remains that same
Actually maybe the battery is not damage cause the cycle is kind of good. Just trying to figure out what is the issue

it may be best then to contact nubia or the seller you bought the phone from. if the battery is faulty or old is should be replaced. its very odd that the battery is not the rated 4400mah especially for a device that is just new. a small discrepancy like mine 2-3% is usually alright for something left in storage for 2-3 months after manufacture. but if you're past a large amount of capacity in such a short time, its possible that the battery is faulty and will need to be replaced.
do try other battery monitor apps incase your app is giving false readings. But I would contact Nubia about a warranty repair. if you bought it directly from Nubia, @JerryYin may be able to help forward your request.

Long time accubattery user here.
You'll have to uninstall the app and re-install it before trying the above.
The estimates are not great for long term information but benefit more over long term (months).
If you want a fast reading, try the above but also check your estimated capacity on the main screen (charging), go to the bottom and you'll see it there. Make sure your phone is fully charged first.
My estimated capacity was 4000mah originally, but now I'm showing 4545mah (on the 5G, not 5S).

My screen on time is 5 hours 58 minutes, that's on 144hz always with the custom Kernel to overclock the GPU to 900mhz.

The battery capacity have a bug that will cause most of the software can't identity all the capacity. This should be fix in future update.

Please fix:
1. Ongoing app notifications such as my weather app showing app icon instead of weather info, same goes for
other apps such as emails, missed calls, messsages etc. where it only shows app icons instead of proper info
2. DTS X crashes on bluetooth headphones everytime, works OK with wired, but come on, it's 2020, everything's
wireless these days.
3. Every few days you need to clear "Bluetooth system app's" cache otherwise it stops connecting with paired
devices.
4. Can't set up default apps at least not all of them
