Concerning Root SM-N915A - AT&T Note Edge Android Development

Has anyone been able to root this device, I have read and it seems to impossible. I have read on the Dirty Cow method https://www.xda-developers.com/9-year-old-linux-kernel-bug-dubbed-dirty-cow-can-root-every-version-of-android/ I am asking has anyone tried this at all, or has found a way to root this devices, thanks for any assistance.

It could be possible if someone built a custom ROM with the su biniries. I tried it once but I had no way of flashing it

Who else could get the root on sm-n915a ??? I also have problems with the transition from 5.1.1 to 4.4.4. (Kitkat). If anyone can help write please how to do this ??
I would also like to know if I am from russia and I need a Russian language that is not available on samsung galaxy note edge n915a. Is it possible to add it like that ?? Sorry for my bad english (googl translate)). Thank you. I am hope for your help

Wouldn't it be possible to downgrade the firmware and then use chainfires root, or use Odin and flash a different csc and use another carriers root method? Does metro do this phone? 'Cause couldn't you flash Metro Pcs bloatware then use the Device Unlock App? Or is that to little logic and breaking down computer code?

Newer, Safer Method to Root your phone?

I am new to xdadevelopers and this is my first thread.
I was just wondering if anyone has tried the new method of rooting our device?
Apparently, you can download GalaxyS2RootNew.zip. Unzip the file and install runme.bat.
This is supposed to work on all variants of the Galaxy S 2. You will get ROOT access but this method does not install a new kernel with recovery so you can't install custom ROM's.
Please advise if anyone has heard of this method, has tried it, does it work?
Found it on GalaxyS2Root.com website. Thanks.

I have followed the stickies and have watched videos on how to root the device using ODIN. That method works very well, but you need to back everything up first which requires a Micro SD card. I don't have a Micro SD card at the moment so can't use that method.
I was just wondering if anyone has tried the alternative method on the T989 model. It seems a lot more user friendly, easier, safer and you have no chance of bricking your phone. Thanks for your reply.
You don't need to backup anything but it is recommended in case you screw something up. Probably not going to happen if you don't flash a new rom, and stick to smaller changes like theme, or maybe a new kernel.
I've done odin method and seems pretty foolproof to me. I don't see how it can get less of a change to brick unless some other physical hardware problem intervenes in the process in mid-flash.

Tried it last night on my new T-Mo GS2 (followed the galaxys2root.com instructions), it did not work for me. Plus side is that nothing bad happened to my phone even thought it didn't root successfully.
I have the U.S. based T-mo phone... so not sure if that's different than the phones used in Canada.

I think the Tmobile (T989) and Telus (T989D) version of the phone are the same. Unless you are running version 2.3.6, then the zergrush exploit doesn't work.
Backups are overrated (lol). I never do them and completely ignored it and went ahead and ODIN flashed the recovery and then flashed Juggernaut immediately.
Took me literally 2 minutes to do.

Right - my phone did come with 2.3.6. I ended up using another method to root - which was relatively easy also.

[Q] Bell Galaxy S3 i747m - Original Rom

Hello there,
I am very new with Android phones and I have some questions if someone can answer me please.
I have done hard reset my Galaxy S3 couple days ago and I was trying to run "Video Hub".
"Video Hub" was giving me an error message that is "Device authorisation is failed"
Honestly, I do not mind that this app does not work but it really challenge me that the "Hard Reset" does not really clear all the information on my phone.
Here is my question.
1. Is there a way to re-format or re-install android OS on my phone? (something like returning to the beginnig of my phone when I bought it)
2. I have two ROMs (one is the Bell Jelly Bean ORIGINAL rom and Bell Jelly Bean ROOTED rom), using these ROM, can I re-install android OS without voiding warranty?
3. if my phone get "Bricked", using the Bell Jelly Bean ORIGINAL rom, can I unbrick my phone? (I saw some post that I need CWM? do I need to get additional file to download?)
Could please someone explain me? I am ready to learn new things but I need some basic knowledge. please help me...
Thanks, guys!
Device authorisation is failed
here is the link to earlier official firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625 download the appropriate files drivers, and flashing software, no need to root no cmw you will be able to back to orgional stuff.

Come on man this is simple. you shouldn't be flashing if you don't have a failsafe anyways. Look up the correct image/country/carrier for your phone and that is your backup. If you can get to Odin you can always get back to square zero
Thanks for the replay.
I don't know why I am worried so much.
Before it gets wrong, I just wanted to be ready.
I will try that when I get home today.

Hi, I need help please, here is question:
I bught my i747m a week ago, im from mexico and Telcel is the local carrier, Can something go wrong if a Install any official stock rom from another country?
I am using a Bell Galaxy S3 SGH i747M with baseband MVLUFNH2 looking to unlock this phone. I am currently under the impression I have to revert to jellybean to do this. Is this correct and if not can someone please point me in a definitive direction?
Once the phone is on 4.3 or newer bootloader, the only way to unlock the phone would be to purchase an unlock code.
I know that the regionlockaway app can be used for Bell/Rogers/Telus s4 but I haven't seen any method for the s3.

Ok Your post is confusing me in that it sounds like the second sentence hints that the regionlockapp can unlock a bell/rogers/telus phones for free even if on 4.3 for S4?
For the s4 from Bell/Telus/Rogers (sgh-i337m), you need to downgrade to stock 4.4.2, flash the stock 4.2.2 modem, root, run regionlockaway app, reflash stock 4.4.2 or 5.01 ROM. The s4 should now be permanently sim unlocked.
With the s3, certain modem/bootloader combinations can brick the phone so I don't know if regionlockaway will work on the s3 sgh-i747m.
God this is a nightmare i figured such an old phone would be easy to root and unlock and every damn lead I follow leads to a dead end.
I searched high and low for a free unlock method. I finally gave up because I did not want to take a chance and brick my phone by trying to downgrade the modem, rooting, and installing regionlockaway. Unlock code was $15.
I'm not too great with this stuff anymore but why can't a good coder edit the files within and unlock it simply by flashing the edited file? In the end its all code right?
I'm on 4.4.2 running an old cyanogen nightly. I purchased an unlock code and when I type it in it says Network Unlock Request Unsuccessful. Any Ideas?
You need to be running a stock dialler in order to enter the unlock code which means you need to flash back to stock or flash a custom rom built from a stock rom.
I did manage to sim-unlock an I747M with 4.3 version of Android (build JSS15J.I747MVLUEMK5) -- or, at least, it doesn't show the "enter network unlock code" anymore... via ServiceMenu, perso SHA off, and NV rebuild/restore; procedure is described elsewhere on the forum. No such luck with 4.4.2 (tried downgrading -- no go)
Now -- an assumption: since there are various remote USB unlocking services on-line, claiming success remotely unlocking the I747M with 4.4.2, someone -- and likely more than one -- here on XDA knows how this is done. I've been trying to piece together the procedure for it, going through pages and pages of discussions, not finding much.
I'd like to appeal to those who know -- please share the knowledge, or at least point in the right direction those of us who want the DIY solution...
cheers
You sim unlocked the i747m that was running stock 4.3 using a hidden menu? That would be great news. Did you try inserting a sim card from another carrier and connect to their network?

I tried inserting a few non-registered/old SIMs from a variety of carriers (incl. european); the phone did not produce "Network lock code" prompt, and just reported "unregistered SIM", just like a _known_ (i.e., tested in the field) SIM-unlocked phone I have.
If you are able to get a sim to try connecting to a network, other than the original carrier, let us know. Thanks.

[Q] SGH-I467 compatible with non AT&T ROM/rooting guide? (not for resale version)

Same here,
Maybe XDA could start a new section just for the SGH-I467 ?
This might be a long shot and I don't advise anyone doing this unless you're comfortable possibly bricking your device, but maybe you could odin a wifi or international image to your AT&T Note and use their exploits to gain root.
update
Anyone able to suceed at root yet?
This is why I bought the international version and just pop my US SIM in. LTE is nice and everything but I prefer having phone functionality and H+. The At&t version is modified to remove the phone features and add the american LTE. With that in mind I wouldn't flash a international rom on it.
If you do flash an international rom make sure u remove the modem/radios and you will have to make sure the "parts line up". There are memory addresses for the kernel/radio/os etc. I'm not sure if they are in the same places. If they are not then you will brick your device if for instance u put the kernel where the bootloader is suppose to be. I wouldn't try anything unless your still covered by the money back warranty.
TLDR: Let one of the seasoned Root developers find an exploit. I'm sure they could if they have the time and the device.

Adding Root to Combination File

Hi, I'm note sure if I'm asking this in the right area its been a while since I've asked anything. Anyway, I'm glad to have root on N930 All devices. However I have a N930V, both root method and combination firmware. I want gain root on the combination firmware but I really don't know how. First I tried flashing the rooted Sprint Leaked firmware, rooting it perm and then flashing the combo and even vice versa. I did alot of splitting files etc etc. Still no luck. I even cracked out Linux because I'm trying to discover how does this Sprint leaked file has root on it anyway but I believe its the "user-debug" kernel. Anyway can anyone elaborate on this? And kind of guide and help me out with this I'd really appreciate it. Please don't ask me why I'm doing this I'm looking for assistance not interrogation. Thanks Vell123
I don't know much about the technical issues, but you tried the Hydra method?

I don't believe it has root but it doesn't block ADB from pushing SU. Directly after flashing the sprint firmware before even booting it you run ADB and push the superuser.apk so it is rooted at that point. Then you flash the partial VZW firmware which doesn't include the recovery and maybe bootloader. The VZW recovery doesn't even allow ADB to push anything so replacing the recovery is a key step. Why the PH1 firmware allows you to replace it with the Sprint firmware is a mystery to me.
I know right. I havent tried the hydra method @cigars
@jellyhead I'm not trying to root. I just want to make a combo file that has root in the system because it does have a permissive kernel but doesnt have SU access

Hi Gary unfortunately no I have not found way to 1. root the phe firmware besides using combination files and 2. my answer hasnt been answered either. I'm assuming your device Note 7 device has been blacklisted or blocked via the imei and model number. it sucks i know but I'm still looking and if not anything I'm considering building on the combination file because with combination file you can call and text but you literally have to install all your apps with adb and or sd card if you have one. its a bit of a pain but you also can root and change the model number too

What are my (best) options for root?

Hello,
I recently started using Moto G6 Play, and am wondering now what is the best and easiest option for root. I searched a bit on the forum and found one thread for root that includes unlocking bootloader and is more complicated than some info i have found on google - rooting with KingoRoot without pc (if that's even possible).
Device info: XT1922-3, 3/32gb
Build number: OPPS27.91-177-2
Android 8, latest security patches, available 9 Pie update.
Soo, my question is - Will methdos like KingoRoot work because that will suit just fine for me since i do not want to flash anything extra, but only debloat and optimize stock rom? And i suppose my bootloader is locked because when i power up with volume down + power it says oem_locked so thats another reason for pcless root.
Anyone can help?

DONT USE KINGO ROOT. For one you have to unlock the bootloader anyway so you can root please just use my guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/g6-play/how-to/guide-t3929928 to avoid screwing up your phone with any root like KINGO root. You have come on here asking what the preferred method is and over 5,000 people are using my guide lol so my guide is the preferred. You need all that in order to pass play store safety net if you even want be able to download alot of games or if you download the apks the game won't load and KINGO root 100% fails safety net checks to make sure your passing it

Hi, thanks for quick response,
Well yea, i gave up on KingoRoot after some researching that it might not be safest thing to use. But it seemed pretty handy for my situation. And yes i saw your guide and considered it as option but didnt really find any more reliable threads (maybe i didnt search long enough tho). Btw, as i noticed you method requires unlocked bootloader so if you have some thread available about it throw it here if you can, if not thanks anyways.

It's not an option, it's THE WAY. It's how to root.
Unlock bootloader, flash TWRP, use TWRP to flash encryption disabler and magisk.
Systemless root is the way now. Root is in the boot.img now. One click roots are dead.
