[Guide] IMEI Fix For Devices On Custom Rom. - Lenovo Vibe K4 Note Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey Guys,
Yep, I know there are a whole lot of threads for imei problem fix, but I've seen a lot of threads with solutions only working either for stock rom, or there is some random imei showing up on your device. This is a thread on fixing imei problem working for custom ROMs. Yes! . I have tried this AOSP Extended and Resurrection Remix OS 5.8.3 both by mohancm and I'm pretty sure it will work on any custom ROM. This fix is based on partitions backup from your stock rom, so there will be no issues.
This solution was given by Senior Member @KaMyKaSii, so all thanks to him! Lets get started!
Requirements:
1) Your device ( Obviously )
2) Stock ROM Marshmallow.
3) Rooted Device
4) Maui Meta 3G/ SN Write Tool (Optional)
Procedure:
1) If you are on Custom Rom, flash marshmallow stock ROM (Search the forums, there a lot of threads), using SP Flash Tools.
2) After going to stock rom, next step is unlocking bootloader, there are many threads on doing this, but I'll sum it up here if you
want:
i) Go to Developer Settings>OEM Unlocking. Enable the option. Also enable USB Debugging Mode.
ii) Connect to a computer and open adb on it. Check if the device is connected using the command
Code:
adb devices
iii) now use the command
Code:
adb reboot-bootloader
In fastboot use this command to unlock bootloader
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
Do as it says and reboot.
iv) Now again after rebooting go to bootloader and flash TWRP.
3) Root your device by flashing MagiskSU or SuperSU.
4) Now, download and install FX File Explorer from play store, Open it and enable Root Access from Settings>Add-Ons And
Themes in file explorer.
5) Now go back and open System (Root) folder in file explorer.
Note: If you haven't already restored, restore your imei, bluetooth address and serial number using Maui Meta or SN Write Tool.
6) In system root, grant Root permissions, and go to dev/block/platform/mtk-msdc.0/11230000.msdc0/by-name folder.
7) In that folder, copy the files mentioned below:
Code:
expdb
nvdata
nvram
proinfo
protect1
protect2
secro
8) Copy these files in some place where it is safe ( I have copied it to Internal Storage in a folder named PartitionsBackup)..
9) Next, go back to root folder again, and open data/nvram/md/NVRAM/NVD_IMEI and copy the MP0B_001 file to internal storage. Do Not copy this file in the same place as the previous files, but remember where you have copied this file.
These are all the partitions that store the device's IMEI .
10) After copying everything mentioned, Reboot to recovery and flash the desired Custom Rom.
11) Make sure the rom is rooted, and again install FX File Explorer from play store, enable root access as above.
Do Not Forget To Backup Everything Before Doing Anything!
12) Now select the files that you have copied in internal storage (Assuming PartitionsBackup). And copy those files. ( Note: Do Not Copy the MP0B_001 file!)
13) Now open root folder, go to dev/block/platform/mtk-msdc.0/11230000.msdc0/by-name folder and paste all the files you have copied, and if asked select Merge/Overwrite files.
14) Reboot.
15) Now go back to internal storage, copy the MP0B_001 file where you have saved it. Go back to root folder and open data/nvram/md/NVRAM/NVD_IMEI and copy the file, select Merge/Overwrite. Now long press the file and select Security, update permissions as Read, Write for both root and radio. Dis-select everything else.
16) Reboot aand Done! Voila ! You should get back the IMEI for your device :victory:
I know its a long post, but it works for Custom ROMs.!
Hope it helps!
Hit Thanks If you feel it works! :highfive:

I didn't get you. Do not backup the whole by-name folder. Just copy the files mentioned above. And when you go into the custom ROM, just restore the files copied in the same by-name folder.
No. It might not be a hardware problem.

Can anyone help me in restoring IMEI in stock ROM?
While flashing using SN writer or maui meta tool it says "Have been in meta mode. Long press power button to normal reboot". After that nothing. It boots back and I still see the INVALID IMEI message.

SN write tool can be a little complicated to do. I personally prefer Maui Meta 3G. You can search for guides on SN write tool. There are many....

Do you have all drivers installed correctly? ADB, VCOM, USB Drivers?
Also, That message screen is Meta Mode. From that screen only you can do the IMEI process.
Note: This Only works for stock rom. Use this guide.

For custom Roms, use my guide.

[BOOT LOOP]Afternediting a config file for Bluetooth root explorer

I edited a configuration file for Bluetooth(main.conf) in which i changed the device discoverable for value to be 0 (by default 120). then i left the folder as is (r/w) mode and saves and rebooted.
rescue mode is available(volume up - home -power)
boot loops continously
Kies not recognising when connecting when the device is turned off
there is a backup of the file at the same folder..
if you can provide me too ..how do i upload to my phone.
need help ASAP.
try installing firmware with odin
Other better ideas!
I am pretty sure that this matter was triggered because of that tweak..(editing of the file). I hope that restoring the original file would help.
Do you know about adb...?
Also i forgot where the actual bluetooth configurations file was in the root folder structure
adb will not work on device in recovery/download mode
to use adb mobile needs to be running
you can flash cwm in your mobile then upload the file and send me the link i will make a flashable zip and upload it then you can flash it
adb is running...just
Adb is running (while the phone keeps on showing boot animation-samsung logo-bootanimation-samsung logo-bootanima....) but it seems that it has permissions issues..i unrooted my phone before using adb .
i can access adb shell and list root directories but cannot enter further directories such as data\ permission denied
I donot have the file that i changed and quiet cannot remember it..
Check on your mobile and see for
data/misc/bluetoothd/
if it has files such as music.conf,main.conf etc etc..then this is the needed folder..
can you create a update.zip
like i used for rooting/ unrooting .that doesnt need CWM
that empties the directory ,because it has some backup files .bak created by root explorer
loads files from your mobile
i am currently unrooted ..do i need root?
actually adb works during splashscreen
get the original file and push it through the system, set permission and it should work
if all else fails,..... odin
download update.zip from http://dl.xda-developers.com/attach...5498d4d803e6a/4fcc0dd2/7/6/3/0/8/8/update.zip and place it in the root of your sdcard
go to recovery flash it you will get root then you can use adb
if it is not flashing first flash cwm through Odin then flash this update.zip through cwm
The file you sent is invalid. corrupt..?
what does this do..exactly.
i already have a update.zip and update-unroot.zip to root unroot my device
so
do i need root permission to use adb..because commands like
adb root gives"error not available in production devices"
&
adb shell
$ su
etc are showing permission denied.
if you have the original files on your galaxy y.. can you make update.zip with the above instruction
if adb works..i dont exactly remember the file path that i changed..so using the hints above please can you send me the file path
My aim here is to use odin or factory reset only at the last.
just root the device by flashing the root.zip in recovery and then use
adb shell
su
and it will work
No still get permission denied.... like always.
cd data
ls
open directory failed, Permission denied.
1. flash cwm recovery through odin
2. then upload the original file
3. I will create a update.zip and will upload it
4. you will need to flash it in cwm recovery
i will flash CWM using cwm.zip
i dont have the original file as i could not pull through adb..i hope your file may work
Finally i remembered the directory
/etc/bluetooth
the file i modified was main.conf however whole folder can be replaced from your mobile's or original one.
Thanks

backup-restore feature
create backup
edited the system.tar
put the original file
calculated md5 for new system,tar
edited the nandroid.md5 with appropriate editor and filled with the new calculated md5 of system.tar
advance restoore....select system files...
md5 check pass
restore fail
now boot stuck at initial screen
pretty sure even wipe data wont work

HOW-TO: HTC T328W/Wind Dual-Sim from China - Complete guide to install Google Apps

HOW-TO: HTC T328W from China (Bootloader unlock, rooting, installing Google apps and removing bloatware.
02/July/2012
This guide has been tested on two HTC T328W dual-sim phones bought from China. It has also been tested with the following Build numbers and baseband versions and both worked perfectly.
Dear mods: I know this is not the correct thread for this phone. Please create a new subforum for this great phone and move all T328W threads into it. They are all over the place (from One V to Desire, etc.). Thanks.
!!I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE!!
Phone 1:
Kernel: 3.0.16
Baseband: 1.04.34D.11_20.11.30.11U
Build number: 1.35.1402.1
Browser: 534.30
Phone 2:
Kernel: 3.0.16
Baseband: 1.06.34D
Build number: 1.56.1402.6
Browser: 534.30
The zip file containing all needed files can be found at mediafire . c o m / ?783kthx72x3uf5d .
I could not attach the zip file (I get a page not found) and am not allowed to post outside links yet.
Bootloader unlocking
1. Let’s change the language to English first so we understand the phone better. Open the apps menu and go to the Settings icon (the cogwheel icon). Scroll down to the setting with the “A” icon. Click the first item in the list and choose English.
2. Go to htcdev . c o m, create an account and click the Unlock bootloader icon. After logging in, choose “All Other Supported Models” from the list and click the Begin Unlock Boatloader button. Accept that you may lose any guarantee and continue to follow the instructions.
3. To enter bootloader mode, make sure the phone is off (or remove the battery for a few seconds). Then hold Volume Down and start pressing the Power button – without any USB cable. Use the up and down buttons to select “Fastboot” and select it using the Power button. Now connect your USB cable and continue following the HTC instructions.
4. All the files you need are in the zip you can get above. I also installed the HTC Sync program which installs the drivers. Using the command prompt you can simply navigate to the extracted files and run the fastboot command. (Use the command “cd C:/myextractedzip” to change to a directory).
5. Save the Unlock_Code.bin attachment which you get from HTC by Email into the same extracted zip folder and run the next command. You now have an unlocked bootloader and the phone will start up and an HTC wizard will appear where you can choose the English language again.
Flashing clockworkmod
1. Remove any USB cables and boot again into the bootloader mode. Click Fastboot and reconnect your USB cable. Now run the following command on your computer: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img . This flashes the clockworkmod recovery image onto the phone.
2. Switch off your phone. Make sure your USB cable is removed.
3. Now copy the “app” folder from the zip onto a micro-sd card. Also copy the “CWM-SuperSU-v0.92.zip” and “rootexplorer_2.16.apk” onto the micro-sd card.
4. Insert the micro-sd card into the phone and boot into boatloader mode again.
5. Now choose the recovery option instead of fastboot and wait for clockworkmod recovery to appear.
Rooting the phone
1. In clockworkmod recovery, choose install zip from sdcard
2. Choose “choose zip from sdcard” and choose “CWM-SuperSU…zip”
3. Scroll down to “Yes – Install CWM-SuperSu” and wait. Now go back and reboot the phone normally.
Installing Google Apps
1. Using the included file manager on the phone, click on “rootexplorer.apk” and install it. When launching root explorer, make sure you grant it superuser permissions.
2. Go click the “sdcard” folder and press and hold the “app” folder that you copied from the zip file. Click “copy” and then navigate to /system . Press “Mount R/W”. And then click “Paste”. Choose Yes to overwrite. Exit root explorer.
3. Now we need to fix the permissions. The easiest way is if you enable USB Debugging mode from the “Developer Options” settings. Make sure you connect your USB cable.
4. Open a command prompt to our extracted zip folder and type “adb shell”. Press enter and you should see “[email protected]:/ $”. Run “su”. Run “cd /system/app”.
5. Now to fix all permissions, run “chmod 644 *.apk” and then run “chown root.root *.apk” .
6. Now run “reboot” to reboot your phone.
Removing bloatware apps
1. Thanks to dark_hawk from xda-developers, we have a list of system apps/bloatware that are save to remove. You can easily do this from the root explorer app. Go to /system/app and hold each item you want to delete. Then click delete. You can also remove each app’s odex file.
The list:
116114.apk
2254_HTCCU_WO3G_SIE.apk
DoubanFM.apk
DreyeCHSPkg40.apk
HTCCN_FileManager.apk
HTC_Widget_Renren.apk
HTC_Widget_Sina_Weibo.apk
HTC_Widget_Sina_Weibo_Nearby.apk
HTC_Widget_Sina_Weibo_Trend.apk
HTC_Widget_Sina_Weibo_Trend.apk
HtcMusicEnhancer_China_Sina.apk
HtcMusic_China_Sina.apk
PhoneMail.apk
QQ2011.apk
Renren_FSplugin.apk
Renren_GLRplugin.apk
SinaMusic.apk
Sina_Weibo_FSPlugin.apk
Sina_Weibo_GLRplugin.apk
SohuNews.apk
VDisk.apk
Weibo.apk
eMoney.apk
mapbar.apk
renren.apk
unicomclient_HTCT328W.apk
vegetable.apk
wefound.apk
2. Then run “reboot” to reboot your phone.
3. After the reboot you might still find some Chinese language apps. These can be removed with an app from the Play Store such as Root Uninstaller.

If you have any problems, please post below and I will answer and/or update this post.
followed your guide and managed to install the google apps, including Play Market.
Big thanks!
By the way, did you try to install a newer version of android/ ROM?
Hi
Thanks for the instructions. I have installed the update successfully.
Although installing the market initially failed. Before that the phone booted.
After applying the google aps bit the phone didn't startup again it hang at the 'HTC quitly brilliant' screen.
Although after first reinstalling the RUU and after that doing this procedure again it worked. I'm new to Android I can follow instructions although I'm clouless of what I'am actually doing.
I have a few problems though:
1.
After installing however I have a problem that google play now sais that I can't install runkeeper because my phone isn't compatible.
I was able to install this program before on this phone. Anyone a clue on that?
2.
Also I have a problem that if I wan't to apply a system update of android from the about screen it will error with "assert failed: getprop("ro:cid") == "00000000"
Anyone a sollution for that specific for this phone?
3.
Also I have a problem with this phone that my 3G internet is working strangly. I hoped to solve this with installing a newer version.
Some applications are always working like play store, facebook, friendcaster. Youtube app works ok when browsing videos, although can't play.
Whatsapp only seems to work a few minutes after the 3G connection is set up. And internet browsing doesn't work at all. I tried opera and firefox.
With WIFI all is good and then it is a wonderfull phone.
I get good download speeds when I install a program from google play.
Although I would love to have a stable whatsapp and browsing capabilities while i'm away from wifi. Anyone familliar with this problem?
I was hoping to adress the internet issue by updating ICS, although like stated this also fails.
Many thanks ina advance for your help!
Hi
following your instruction I just updated 3 pcs of HTC Build number: 1.56.1402.6. All done, all OK. One think that voice search is not working on phone dialpad, I have to remove it and install voice search from the market - now in apps like maps, phone search working fine. Till now I didn't find any else problem
Thanks very much. BR Kris

5. Now to fix all permissions, run “chmod 644 *.apk” and then run “chown root.root *.apk” .
6. Now run “reboot” to reboot your phone.
Removing bloatware apps
1. Thanks to dark_hawk from xda-developers, we have a list of system apps/bloatware that are save to remove. You can easily do this from the root explorer app. Go to /system/app and hold each item you want to delete. Then click delete. You can also remove each app’s odex file.
The list:
116114.apk
2254_HTCCU_WO3G_SIE.apk
DoubanFM.apk
DreyeCHSPkg40.apk
HTCCN_FileManager.apk
HTC_Widget_Renren.apk
HTC_Widget_Sina_Weibo.apk
HTC_Widget_Sina_Weibo_Nearby.apk
HTC_Widget_Sina_Weibo_Trend.apk

Hello guy,
I received this morning this phone from Etotalk.
I bought also from them their preinstalled services including multilangiage OS and unlocking and rooting services (I know how to root but 'cause price was so low....).
However I received the phone...but...:
1. Only English & China language installed
2. Wlan & btooth doesn't work
When I switch on the WLAN appears error message. And remains 'Turning WLAN on'. Also Btooth doesn't switch on
So I am asking myself if this is related to the root process or somewhat else or is an hardware problem ??
I want to flash again a new rom but I don't know where to retrive an ICS rom with italian language....
I opened also a dispute in Paypal.......
Is it possible that all is related to a software problem and not an hardware problem ?
Please let me know, if you can....

Mine is from etotalk too and it works fine!
Try to make first reset the phone! Should be working then! I think, it`s only software problem! if it`s rootet, install the recovery from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751788
and make a NAND Backup! Then you can try to flash the newest European ROM!
But in first step, try to reset the complete phone in SETTINGS-Storage scroll down to end here!
My Desire V is from India and worked fine now i have rooted phone thanks
BB version# 1.05.34D.29_20.21.30.23U
Build # 1.60.720.5 CL69250 release-key
Browser version # Webkit/534.30
@ Petteri
Any hints on how to make NAND backup? Actually I want to make a backup image of existing setup before playing with it, so as if something goes wrong, I can come back to present state. My phone is also from etotalk. So any help on making recovery backup would be appreciated.

Kernel: 3.0.16

Phone 2:

Hi
because there is new update from HTC available, 1.71.1402.1 I have question, how can I install this patch? because now I can't install on the cracked one.

So I purchased this phone from eBay, it came "unlocked" and I am able to use it in Canada easily. No problems with Google Apps, english, etc.
I don't know if this is a rooted unlock or a hardware carrier unlock.
So, with HTC now telling me there are system updates available, I don't know whether installing them will lock the phone up if it's been rooted. I've written the seller a few times and despite very many positive reviews, I have no answer to this question. So I'm posting here.
I have:
Android 4.0.3
HTC Sense v. 4
Software 1.60.707.5
HTC SDK API level 4.2
HTCEtension_403_1_GA_8
kernel

Any help here would be appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.

As your baseband matches the build number it would suggest that you have an original Asia version. You should be able to use the OTA update without problems. If when you run the update it says something about "HTC has detected that the software is not original" then you probably have a Chinese model that has Asia firmware on it.
Unable to stay login to HTCDev
I recently got a Desire V and wants to root it.
Not sure if any of you faces this problem..I have registered at HTCDev and followed the instruction to click on the email link to complete registration. However each time when I successfully log in, I am being thrown out and I need to re-login. Sometimes I am able to succesfully log in to the bootloader section and then am able to select the model and go through the legal notification. But after that Im always thrown out.
Is anyone facing this? I have registered for another id and its the same thing.
Need a HUGE favor...is it possible for someone who has registered successfully and unlocked their bootloader to lend me their userid?? Desperately trying to root this phone. Thanks.
Hello, it seems that the link for the files does not work anymore. Would somebody able to share these files ?
Best regards

Cannot connect to mobile network???

Hello, this is really weird. In fact, when I insert the SIM to my Note 2 N7100 and turn it on, it allows me to make emergency call, but I cannot use it to make any others and it doesn't show the carrier name (it shows Emergency call only). And when I try to use it to make normal phone calls, it says that I am not registered to a mobile network. I try to factory reset my phone, but the problem remains. I then try to remove the SIM card, and it says that I need to insert a SIM card (that means that it is not a hardware problem since it recognizes the card). I then try to go to the mobile network setting to try to connect to the network manually, it connects me but it shows me a warning which says that the mobile network service is not available (and the Emergency call only label remains). However, I am sure that this is not the problem of the card neither since when I insert the card to my Moto MB860, I can make calls as usual. So, what is the problem ??? It seems to me that the problem happens spontaneously since it works perfectly until yesterday. And all other wireless function works fine including wifi , Bluetooth and GPS and the only thing goes wrong is 3g and 2g.
Additional information:
ROM: Omega v.16
Carrier: Fido Canada (as you can see)
Thanks.
First of all, check whether you can see the IMEI of the device. If you can see.
1. Contact your network operator and check whether your IMEI is blacklisted or not.
If you cannot see the IMEI
1.Restore the efs and persist backups (if you have one)
2. flash the device again with the modem image (download the firmware of your device from samfirmwares.com, delete everything from the .tar file except modem.bin, and then flash this file to the phone with Odin (you can get Odin and instructions from that site or from here)
2. maybe your nv_data.bin file or /efs directory got corrupted, make a backup of the folder, then simply delete nv_data.bin, it will be recreated for you.
For this, you’ll need root. If you have a root-enabled kernel, you only have to install the Superuser app and Busybox on the phone, download the Android SDK to your PC, install platform-tools in the SDK manager, go to the platform-tools directory and start adb shell.
In the shell, type su, wait for the Superuser prompt to appear on the phone (if it does not appear, open the Superuser app and try executing su again), enable root access for the command. Now go to /efs, copy everything to for example /sdcard/efs, then rm nv_data.bin.
Reflashing the device with a kernel and checking “phone EFS clear” in Odin also works (make sure you made a backup of the EFS folder just in case).
3. you can try changing the CSC: enter *#272*imei# on the phone tab.
Try this . I'm not sure it works. Just give it a try on yourself.
Trying the above mentioned methods could be vulnerable to your phone if it not done properly. So do it carefully. If you have any doubts feel free to ask me or search elsewhere. But, don't blame me for a fully dead phone. I am not at all responsible for any...
Noob 1st post......have had similar problems with koodo CDN
Not gonna give such an in depth suggestion as above.....he's something simple to try.
I live in a dead zone and often my phone ( galaxyAce) will switch to no service. Even after refreshing and selecting network under settings, it says it's connected, but isn't. A simple apk that always fixes the problem for me is Network Signal Booster @ theplaystore

Trying the above mentioned methods could be vulnerable to your phone if it not done properly. So do it carefully. If you have any doubts feel free to ask me or search elsewhere. But, don't blame me for a fully dead phone. I am not at all responsible for any...

I need to get the firmware first... since I already passed the download quota for today... need to wait until tomorrow...
Mmm... I heard that you mentioned clearing the EFS in your given procedure, but I do not think that I modified that folder... However, about few days ago, since I want to gain better control on the volume on my headphone remotes, I did modify the file called Generic.kl in system/usr/keylayout, but I restore it after since it didn't work. However, I don't think that this modification will trigger something in the efs folder since it has different directory. By the way, I did some research online and they say that the efs contains information about the carrier on the phone, so will there's a greater chance that the problem is caused by the possible modification on the efs than any other factor and will there also something else that possibly trigger the similar effects?

How To Guide How to extract image collection from rom releases (and root the boot image and apply root to the phone)

1. To extract the image collection from your downloaded rom :
Download Payload Dumper from here (It's a zip file but it's not flashable) to your computer
Extract the zip file to a folder, make it a folder you can use regularly because this is the default tool you would use from now on
Download the rom version you want to root
Unzip the rom to a folder, you will find a file within it called payload.bin
Copy and paste that file into the "payload_input" folder within the Payload Dumper folder you created
Execute the payload_dumper.exe file within Payload Dumper folder, you will not have to specify any options as it always extracts from any payload.bin file in payload_input and outputs the image files to payload_output.
Leave the extraction to be completed, the program will automatically close itself once it's completed
Your extracted .img files will be shown within the payload_output folder
2. If you need to root the boot image you extracted :
Copy the boot.img file from the payload_output folder to a folder on your phone storage (Best to name it appropriately if you will be doing this regularly)
Download and Install the latest Magisk apk from the release site (Accept any prompt to allow install from external source)
Launch the app and then choose Install under the top "Magisk" section
Choose Select and Patch a File then browse to where you copied the boot.img on your storage
Magisk will then apply root to the boot image you specified, Your rooted image file will be output to your phone's Download folder : /sdcard/Download
You don't need to keep the default filename of the rooted image file so you can rename it appropriately for the rom version after you copy it to your computer, just ensure to keep the .img file extension
If you rename the rooted boot image, try not to use spaces in the filename, rather use _ or - as spaces make it more difficult to use in a command window although when you start typing the filename you can use TAB to autocomplete it, always ensure the filename shows .img as the extension and at the end of any commandline
3. If you need to use your rooted boot image to apply root to your phone :
Install the drivers from the mounted drive you should get when connecting the phone to your computer
On Windows you should then have a folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\OnePlus USB Drivers\Android with the platform tools (ADB.exe and Fastboot.exe) you will need, you can obviously copy the content from that folder somewhere else if you wish.
Connect your phone to your computer
Copy your rooted boot image to the folder that has adb.exe and fastboot.exe
Open a command window on your computer by right clicking in that folder and choosing Open command window here
In the command window, Type or copy/paste the command ADB devices and press enter
If you see a prompt on your phone to allow the computer connection then accept it, better still, tell it to allow from now on also.
You should see a string of characters shown in the command window, if you don't see that, then try another cable or re-install your drivers and reboot the computer.
Reboot your phone into Fastboot either by using ADB on your computer ( ADB Reboot Fastboot ) or by enabling Advanced reboot in your developer options in settings and then hold down the power button and use the 3 dot menu on the top right and choosing "Bootloader"
In the command window type Fastboot Boot <filename.img> i.e. Fastboot Boot rooted_boot.img and press enter
You should see a couple of lines in the command window telling you it's copying over to the phone, don't worry it's not being flashed or replacing your existing installed boot image
The phone should then restart and boot using the image from your computer, it will be a slightly slower boot than usual, your existing unlock method should still work
Launch the Magisk app, it should already have root access because the boot image you've used is already rooted
Go to Install under the top Magisk section
Choose Direct Install (Recommended)
Magisk will then apply root access to the boot image on the actual phone
You will be prompted to reboot the phone on the bottom right, do this to complete the process
You don't need the phone connected to your computer anymore as the installed boot image on the phone should now have root access
You can check for root either using any app which requires root or by using an app like Root Checker
Remember to empty the contents of payload_input and payload_output once you have finished, leaving them ready for any future rom versions
4. To retain root access after ROM/OTA update :
Install the update either from Oxygen Updater or from Settings > System > System updates
DO NOT REBOOT when prompted
Go to the Magisk app
Go to Install under the top Magisk section
Choose Install to Inactive Slot (After OTA)
Magisk will apply root to the newly installed boot image for the next version
Reboot when prompted by the Magisk app
The phone should reboot into the updated version with root already applied
Very nice write up! Hopefully many will read this and follow instructions. Too many threads being created with issues because they never bother to read.
Quick question as this is my first OnePlus device.
Will I lose root after a system update and will have to it all over again?

I updated to latest version 11.2.4.4.LE15AA
Since there's nowhere to download the OTA package and extract the boot img, can I use the boot img of a lower version - 11.2.2.2 ?

No, definitely not.
Try Oxygen Updater in advanced mode, it should let you download the full rom.
If you were already rooted though, you should've been able to retain it by following the last section in my original post.
If not, then follow the first 2 sections

Since I'm completely new to OP, is Oxygen updater an app (if yes, is it this; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.arjanvlek.oxygenupdater)? Or is it built into the phone?

In the oxygen updater app, if I select "full update" in update method it only gives me version 11.2.2.2., if I select "incremental update", it lets me download 11.2.4.4, and when I unzipped it I have a file payload.bin (it's only 105MB).
Should I use that? Or do I need a full OTA package to extract the boot IMG?

Are you choosing the correct OnePlus 9 Pro? It'll show you different variants under the model lookup.
To be honest, If I get the update pushed via OnePlus I always copy/paste it somewhere else cos I think it gets deleted once the upgrade is done.
If you extract the payload.bin and it shows a boot.img then that should suffice. I think it should be around 105MB (I'm on my work PC at the moment so can't check)
Thanks. I'm on the T-Mobile version of the OnePlus 9 Pro, technically my phone is currently on "11.2.2.2.LE5ACB" and the one on OnePlus's support site is "11.2.2.2.LE15AA". I'm not sure the difference but I assume T-Mobile bloatware. Hopefully they didn't do anything else to make the phone work "slightly better" on their network.
I'm not sure if the boot.img I extracted from 11.2.2.2.LE15AA will work with my currently-installed "11.2.2.2.LE5ACB"; any ideas?
Might be better to create a boot.img from my existing version and patch that. Do you know the dd command for me to just create the boot.img from my existing partition? In the past with other phones I've done something like "dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/storage/sdcard1/boot.img bs=4096 count=4096 skip=7552" or "dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/boot of=boot.img" but I don't know which partition on the OnePlus 9 Pro to image. Any ideas?
--- Update 1 ---
Code:
OnePlus9ProTMO:/ $ ls -l /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/*boot*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 1970-01-20 02:38 /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/boot_a -> /dev/block/sde16
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 1970-01-20 02:38 /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/boot_b -> /dev/block/sde43
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 1970-01-20 02:38 /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/vendor_boot_a -> /dev/block/sde28
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 1970-01-20 02:38 /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/vendor_boot_b -> /dev/block/sde55
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 1970-01-20 02:38 /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/vm-bootsys_a -> /dev/block/sde24
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 1970-01-20 02:38 /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/vm-bootsys_b -> /dev/block/sde51
Then looking at my active mounts I saw this:
Code:
OnePlus9ProTMO:/ $ mount | egrep "sde16|sde43|sde28|sde55|sde24|sde51"
/dev/block/sde51 on /vendor/vm-system type ext4 (ro,seclabel,nosuid,nodev,relatime)
Which indicates that I'm on the "b" side. So I would want to create a boot.img from `/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/vendor_boot_b` potentially. So this command "should" work, right?
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/vendor_boot_b of=/sdcard/Download/stock_boot.img
I might try that instead of the boot.img I extracted from 11.2.2.2.LE5ACB since it doesn't technically line up with the T-Mobile supplied ROM version.
--- Update 2 ---
Yeah, that didn't work.Turns out dd needs to be elevated to do its thing. Got a "Permission denied" when i tried to create the image. So yeah, ironically I need root to run said command and that's why I was trying to run the command, to get the boot.img to root. lol. oh well.
Thank you very detailed.
When I click on the payload_pumper.exe file, the cmd window flashes and nothing else happens.

[GUIDE] IMEI / Connection Repair on Asus Zenfone 2E ZE500CL Z00D

[GUIDE] IMEI / Connection Repair on Asus Zenfone 2E ZE500CL Z00D
I am writing this guide because I recently recovered a bricked ZE500CL and after flashing around so many different files I lost my IMEI and connection abilities. After a little research and some thought I easily repaired my IMEI and restored my connection abilities. Just follow the steps below. I don't have this phone long and I am still learning so some of these steps might not be needed. Nevertheless it DOES work if you follow it properly.
What you will need:
1) Asus Flash Tool - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1n7tJr7lAlPnL8-nmK8f5kGmDHbRv5gxo
2) Asus Phone Drivers - https://drive.google.com/open?id=11XLRW5pEScYdBYwh0vDM-Wup9orGPWDf
3) Debug Service Firmware - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ISofitM3yhYpu46JD0KWGLXybvtLQyAy
4) Intel Phone Tool - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1dQjjlHjWs8tDrfNU_ikgesKK2uKaTyXt
5) Intel Drivers - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1hE9j35VMOD5QGHjDy_aM2vVCs2PVOOm1
6) ADB / Fastboot Tools - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1nbAS8k4JMAXG8YH2qIFHpRjX60TTlYIt
7) IMEI Number - You should have this. If not generate one based off another ZenFone 2E Z00D's IMEI.
8) ZenFone Root Tool - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1NHf516Yex9KfsnufVNz0vkchJWCiMHo2
9) Root File Browser (ES File Explorer, Root Browser etc) - Get from the internet, place on your phone via MTP file transfer or push/install it in adb.
NOTE: If you choose the first way you will have to go into your debugging app in the applications. It will be the one with the magnifying glass and says Asus Log something on it. I no longer have the Service Firmware installed so I can't remember. You will find it though. Once you do go in and find the usb settings and just change modes and you will see the drivers install and device ASUS_Z00D or something similar should appear in device manager under devices. If it fails to load make sure you have the correct ASUS Drivers installed and if that doesn't work the last way is to select the ( ! )Driver and then manually install the USB MTP Device driver which will fix the issue.
10) Factory Folder Backup (This MIGHT not all be needed, still checking to make sure.. for now include it) - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1fvH0QdrzLFM34vsm2KNfQBU5fr8eSM14
First Step:
Download everything above and then install 6,2,5,4 (Install the drivers that come with Intel Tool before installing it. You should be prompted during installation) and then install 1.
Second Step:
Open Asus Flash Tool and make sure your phone is connected to the computer and you are in fastboot mode.
You can get there 2 ways. (1) Turn the phone off, hold Vol+, then push the power button, and when you feel it vibrate release the power button while holding Vol+. (2) Open command prompt and enter "adb reboot bootloader" (this is if you're adb is setup system wide, if not navigate to your SDK Tools folder and enter there).
Flash the Debug Service Firmware you downloaded. Check WIPE to wipe before flashing.
Once you see the phone boot up goto the next step.
Third Step:
Open Intel Phone Tool and follow this guide here to fix your IMEI! -
NOTE: You can skip the setprop commands he enters into adb shell in command prompt. This firmware already has the COM Port opened and USB Debugging enabled for you.
Fourth Step:
Now you will need to root your phone using the Root Tool I linked in the beginning (Do not worry about upgrading the SuperSU Binary.) Next you will need to install a root browser on your phone like ES File Browser, Root Browser etc. Something that allows access to root / hidden files. Navigate to /Factory and /Config and backup these two in their entirety to your MicroSD card or computer. Replace your factory with mine if it is empty and doesn't contain the files in the steps below. Now comes time to edit. Makes these changes to the files. (I am not 100% sure which all DO need to be made so I just modified most all of the values.)
These instructions are thanks to @BORETS24
I have changed them a tad as our handset differs from the one he wrote them for. I am still not entirely sure if everything needs to be copied/modified. Don't have a lot of spare time on this handset to figure out everything. I just know from testing this will get your phone functioning again.
Serial number, WI-MAC, BT-MAC repair instructions
(You will be replacing everything after step 5. Below explains what to edit.)
1. If you have an empty factory partition, use the archive, replace factory folder with archive version to root file system via file manager, ES File Explorer or others (root required and root browsing required of the application). Serial Number, WiFi MAC, BTMAC, colorID you may see on box from phone (or make up something for each value). .. you can generate the WiFi MAC based off these Unassigned? Assignments - 00:90:4C, 00:09:4C or just make one up based off a random Assignment from here - https://regauth.standards.ieee.org/standards-ra-web/pub/view.html#registries. For the Bluetooth - 22:22:AF or something you find on the previous site. You can check easier after you generate here - http://www.coffer.com/mac_find/. For color ID I left mine the same as what is in the factory.zip which is Silver.
2. Then open and edit factory/PhoneInfodisk/bt_addr.conf- this BT MAC, replace 00:00:00:00:00:00 numbers to your MAC.
3 Then open and edit factory/PhoneInfodisk/colorID- color code of your phone. For example silver is 6J.
4. Then open and edit factory/PhoneInfodisk/PhoneInfo_inf- 6F0000000 (yours will be 12 numbers) replace to your serial number, 1C002C... change to you BT-MAC, 00B72... change to your WiFi MAC, 6J change to your color code, RU... change to US,EU,CN,TW,RU (do not think this matters much). I changed mine to US I think.
5. Then open and edit factory/PhoneInfodisk/ssn- enter your serial number replacing 0000000. (12 numbers)
6. Then open and edit factory/wifi/mac.txt- enter your WiFi MAC replacing 00000.
Fifth Step:
Open Asus Flash Tools and flash desired build of RAW firmware over the Debug Service Firmware. I suggest the latest WW firmware which is ver .126. From here you can stay on this firmware after replacing the files below or surf around XDA and find out what customized ROMS are available for this phone. Personally I unlocked my Bootloader, flashed TWRP, flashed .126, flashed Resurrection Remix 5.8.4 ? on Nougat 7.1.1 and then flashed a SU. RR I wouldn't recommend as it is buggy and neither would I of MoKee as it is buggy as well. I am fixing the bugs in RR so it runs fine as I particularly like RR over others since it comes pre installed with a horde of features so you can customize your handset to your hearts desire.
1. Install a root File Browser and root your phone again.
2. Replace /config with your backed up /config.
3. Replace /factory with your backed up /factory.
4. Reboot.
Now check everything in settings and make sure it looks right. All should look A-OK except for serial #. I am still working on that and will edit this once I finish. Layout of our phone is different than the one I took files from. You might have to replace the file again if you flash certain custom ROM's. I flashed RR and didn't have to.
EDIT: After a few reboots I seem to lose my MAC's again and the serial (unknown) is replaced by Medfield1534DD97. Both WiFi and BlueTooth still work though. You just have the random default generated MAC's. I can live with that as long as it works. Though if anyone can shed some light on this issue or anything else I would be extremely grateful.
Enjoy Your Phone!
-------------
For the Asus Zenfone 2E ZE500CL Z00D I will be uploading in the near future somewhere an organized package compiled of all recoveries, roms custom + stock firmware, root, bootload unlockers, tools, apps and guides all together so you can easily download and skip the time consuming research I had to endure. It is around 10GB. I am officially done learning this phone now. It has been a long 3 days and now it is time to ship it out to a buyer. =]
