Root and S-Off for HTC Desire 626s - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA! I am wondering if there is a root method for the desire 626s and also possibly an s-off method too. My boot loader is unlocked and I am on Android 6.0.1

If u unlocked the bootloader,u can use the WINDROID PC tool to flash TWRP and root ur device. I did it. Just download it and run. Do the twrp flash and root. Best of luck
NB: There is no free s off method to my knowledge at this time.

Flashing recovery when Perm root + s-on

Hi everybody,
I previously rooted and S-OFF my phone by downgrading from 1.72 to 1.34 and using gfree.
But my phone broke down and I just received my DZ from after-sales service, with stock ROM...
So I have few questions:
- I tried to root it with HTC super tool v3. I was not able to perma-root my DZ until I unlocked the stock bootloder using htcdev official method.
So I succeed in writing the system partition. But now i cannot flash a custom recovery (using ROM manager). S-off is only for bootloader/radio, so I should be able to do it with an unlocked bootloder, even if i'm still S-On, right ? What should be wrong?
- Now, if I want to S-off my phone, I must downgrade the radio to the one from 1.34 to use gfree, right ?
- What is the advantage of flashing an eng-hboot rather the official/unlocked one ?
Thanks,
Aurélien

Check out my guide for htcdev unlock here, it'll explain how to flash a recovery.
To S-OFF you will have to relock the bootloader to downgrade, then use gfree.
Eng hboot lets you use a whole bunch of fastboot commands, and can help you fix your phone from a SOFT brick.

Thanks for your reply Nipqer.
I will follow your guide.
But just to be sure I understand everything, I there a reason why I cannot flash the recovery after rooting the phone ? is there some kind of hardware lock enabled because of S-on ? in my case, is there any difference flashing from fastboot rather that ROm manager ?
And about the official unlocked hboot, Is there some kind of signature check when flashing that engineering one does not have?
Thanks again,
Aurélien
The emmc still has write protection if you use the htcdev method, so recoveries (and kernels) can only be flashed via fastboot.
So you cannot use Rom manager.
If the phone is S-ON it will perform a signature check, and only flash official HTC signed roms. S-OFF will let you flash any rom.

Thanks for the explanation !

[Q] Tips on ROOTing - Desire HD, HTCdev unlocked, CWM recovery, 2.3.5 sense 3.0

Hi All,
I've been trying to S-OFF my desire HD, since the AAHK has been retired I've been trying to follow attn1's high level instructions found at attn1's blog.
So far I've:
HTCdev unlocked my bootloader (needed to upgrade the RUU using a goldcard)
Flashed CWM recovery
Now I'm trying to gain root access to continue, I got some questions about this:
Since I have an unlocked bootloader do I need to use and exploit (fre3or, Zergrush, tarcoroot) to gain root access or is there another way to do this?
If I do need to use an exploit, I've read tarcoroot is the only one that works on 2.3.5 (I've tried the other 2, they don't work), can you gain permanent root by using su, superuser and busybox after gaining temp root with tarcoroot? Or do I need to downgrade ROM with tarcoroot and then use one of the other 2 exploits to then gain perm root?
Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be awesome.

If you use any of the exploits here or here you should be fine
You don't need S-Off to root if you've already unlocked your bootloader and flashed a recovery. Just flash either a Superuser apk or a rooted ROM from recovery.

root with any apk like towelroot

hello i have htc m8 working in 5.0 how can i root with any apk file like towelroot , sunshine ..... etc
sunshine won't work on Android 5.0 unless you root first, so it defeats the purpose of what you are asking.
towelroot won't work unless you unlock the bootloader first. And once you've unlocked the bootloader, you can root by a number of means; the most common being to install TWRP custom recovery and flash current version SuperSU.
It really is much easier to root by first unlocking the bootloader when it's possible. The HTCdev site will unlock your device.

unrooting desire 820

I have htc desire 820 rooted device with stock recovery and os. I want to upgrade my phone to lollipop. OTA is already downloaded but is not installing. So i unrooted the device but the phone is rerooting itself after reboot. My bootloader is in relocked state. Any leads on unrooting completely or installing update.
