I would very much like to Black theme my notifications as I also use "Dark Theme Stock + Substratum Swift Black". A few minutes ago I wrote the Substratum Swift Black dev to ask if notifications should be themed and if not then could he please add that feature. White notifications stand out when everything else is themed black.
I tried the other notification mod in this section "Flasheable black notifications, dialer, incallui, qs tiles Mod" and not only did it not work but caused the issue mentioned in the original post about long pressed power button not triggering the extended power menu which makes that alternative a no go. Does this mod also cause issues with the long press power menu?

as with most other zips that contain mods/apps, you need a custom recovery, preferably twrp (https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/development/recovery-twrp-3-1-1-0-touch-recovery-t3632912). If you already have a custom recovery, go ahead and download the .zip provided by the author of the mod in the first post of this thread. Restart your device into recovery mode, either via the advanced reboot menu or by turning your device off and holding the volume down button while powering your device back on until the manufacturer logo appears. once you are in twrp, go to wipe, click on advanced wipe, and select the two options with cache and dalvik, then swipe to confirm the wipe. Afterwards, go back to the overview and click on install. Now you'll need to selected the .zip you've downloaded before. Swipe to confirm again. After the .zip has been installed successfully, click on "wipe cache/dalvik" and confirm once again. After that, you can click on reboot and enjoy your new mod.

Tried it out but now the text of the notifications is slightly red. Also the media keys of spotify can't be seen very well. Am i the only one with this problem? Can it be fixed?

As it modify the framework file, the future official updates won't install right ?
We need to restore the "stock" files ?
If so, can you upload a zip at least of last official update available to restore it ?
One more general question, I can't see the general section opo5, there isn't yet a vanilla version for each official release only adding root and all the rest untouched ?

There's a lot of fixes around for spotify with substratum modules:
-Download Ozone, select dark notifications at the top and theme spotify
-If you have Swift dark/black, select 7.1 OMS at the top and theme spotify
[email protected] made a substratum modules specifically for theming the notifications of apps with black notifications. Find it in his Mod and Theme connection thread

Btw the changed font color also appears in some apps like teamspeak or in some sections of the settings app

Theming spotify with substratum is perfectly safe:good:.
Theming Android system causes the soft reboot bug, other apps are safe to theme

Excellent mod! found the perfect combo using this mod + ozone + swift black . Thank you for coming to the 5!
Is there any way the font brightness can be increased on Ambient Display?? It's a bit dim (could be from my substratum combo though..)

Lineage 14.1 Substratum themes

Hi,
Just a thread to agregate all the infos about compatibilities
I'll keep this first post updated if you give me informations.
Additionnal information :
OMS Support for LOS
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/substratum/reference-lineageos-substratum-support-t3580276
Free themes :
ModernUI : not bad, but black on black on the ambient display (when screen is all B&W). Except that, I love the look.
Inversion UI : not bad, but black on black on the ambient display (when screen is all B&W). Same in the Phone and contact app.
Greyce : No problem with it, but doesn't theme a lot of things. Just have some Grey on white menus on olds app I have. I'll stick on this one for a minimal black UI theming.
Update 8th feb : Contact and Phone is themed (keeping some white areas, but OK for me)
S.i.X themes : I tried even if not supported except Pure Nexus and S.i.X roms. Bootloop...
Paid themes :
I plan to test some of them and report here, starting with the ones compatible with 7.1.1.
Swift black : Reported as really good by @Exodusche . A lot of apps themed
Domination : Reported as really good by @Exodusche . Fewer apps themed, but accent colors
LoNe 4SuBs : seems to require OMS support. Waiting for the dev answer to see if it worth to be tested
Thanks for sharing your views on it if you already tried some of them.

There is no choice I think. Or the ambient display can't show the texts or titles (black on black), or the notification stays white...
Do you have problems on contacts, phone, inbox or Gmail app? All blacked themed with swift?
Swift Black is incredible always being updated and has options for every ROM type also Domination both have never let me down usually ROM issue if so both apply pure black Domination has accent choices where swift does not but themes more like calendar and G maps etc

Not really. Some are trying to extend that :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lineage/general/progress-support-oms-t3546841
But some themes devs make them compatible with it.
Ex from the swift black description :
Boost your stock rooted ROM with this pitch black theme for the Substratum theme engine. It fully supports Android 6, 7.0 and 7.1 / Google Pixel / OxygenOS 4 / LineageOS / OMS + it works without TBO Theme ready gapps! Please read the description below before using the theme.

Settings are black with Blue neon accent.

Only issues I've had with framework and swift black was Oxygen 3.1.4 but customs ROMs OMS, legacy (Non OMS) and OOS 3.1.3 no problems at all Domination and Compound pretty much the same

Had to reapply all and OK
oxygen os
my setup is oxygen os substratum theme, with oneplus 3 accents
I installed substratum and applied greyece and everything worked fine but after applying pixel theme theme stayed to greyece so I uninstalled overlay from overlay manager of substratum after that phone rebooted and stuck in boot screen...on using march03 (first build) of lineage is in zuk z1....anyway to use substratum???
Long pressing power button soft reboots. Also disabling the USB debugging allows it to boot, else just reboots & sticks on boot screen. Any recommendation?

Need tips on a dark / black theme

I've been looking for a black theme, all these white menus hurt my eyes
There used to be a switch in settings to make everything including menus etc black but it seems to have been switched to the theme manager. Can't seem to find a theme with dark background and white text in menus, they mostly just change wallpaper.
Any advice?

Learn how to theme.
Unfortunately, it can't be done. When you create a theme for an Xperia phone, you create a dark theme and a light theme, but it is not up to the theme developer or the user which of those themes to use. Sony has explicitly decided which of their apps will use each theme, and there does not seem to be a user-facing option to change it.

Is there a substratum theme that doesnt break my apps? I was using the mono/art theme for substratum but everytime an app like WhatsApp or messages got an update it would force close the app when I would try to launch it until I remove the theme or it gets an update. Is there a theme where this wont happen? I was also getting force closes with WiFi toggled on and off.

THEMES, Overlays and Such

In light of the fact there's no real root I figured I must DO something to this phone! I MUST make it different than Samsung intended. I was going thru withdrawal. Really. I got to messing around with different Samsung themes (black is Always Right and all of that developers dark themes are pretty dope..btw); but I found in the process many of the s8 unrooted mods usually work. Do some research but I've personally used better nav colors, remove lock text, remove lock carrier name, more precise animation scale, transparent qs, different nav buttons etc. And they are mostly apks, so no struggle. At all. Overlay apks also work too.
Not taking credit for any of this and props to the developer/s. I'm just sharing. Here's a link to one of the best list I've found.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/themes/mods-small-collection-tweaks-t3657119
Even though it's a substratum thread the mods work without it. I tried substratum but it didn't play nice with my phone. Look for s8 threads in theme section by tigerhood and also clck. Most of their apks work on our phone.
Anyway maybe this is common knowledge but i couldn't find it anywhere else on the board so don't roast me if its nothing special. Lol
Thanks for this link, I have been looking and waiting for a long time for a way to hide the clock and battery icon in the status bar and this mod worked perfectly.

Lots of options for nav bar.
Here is a list of nav bar layers plus many more.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73042403&postcount=1442
With substratum you have lots of choices too.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/themes/theme-statusbar-icons-extras-samsung-t3674792
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ami.vividiconset
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/themes/substratum-inversion-ui-overlay-overlays-t3604341
Most of these work. Check the links at the bottom too. I can't remember where I got my nav shown in the picture but I've had no issues with any. Only ones seems not to work are those that try to adjust the nav bar height. It doesn't break anything you just don't see any change in the size.
Other than that you have to reinstall all your overlays again if you change your theme.
Nav bar shown apk below. Works 100%
Again, I take no credit for these and props to the developer/s.
The closest I can get to all black UI is by using Mini Black Edition V2 from the Samsung theme store and Swift Black overlays. I still have white pull down notifications and white nav bar when the keyboard is shown.
Is there a way to black out the pull down notifications and nav bar while the keyboard is shown ?
There's an apk around on one of the links I posted or somewhere else, I can't remember, with an overlay that gives you a black notification panel. It looks really nice, but you can't see the text on notifications very well.
For the black nav bar use the following by Draco.
Edit: first post on this link is the best list I've found. I've tried many of them and they work just fine. Props to the developers and the member who pulled them all together in one place.

Advice for Substratum black theme on stock rooted 8.1

Hi guys,
I've been using the AOSPUI black theme on my Nexus 6P and it worked fine on Nougat.
I now have a Pixel 2 XL on stock rooted Oreo 8.1. The same theme behaves in a weird way and some pop-up windows and the power menu have black on black text. I reached out to the dev and he says it should work properly but I can't seem to be able to make it work.
Now I'm looking for another black theme that works flawlessly on stock rooted. Found a few but need some advice, so would you get:
- Swift black,
- Pi Dark,
- Flux,
- something else?
I need a black theme where EVERYTHING works. Free themes are also welcome.
Thanks!

Swift Black works for me very well. But the first time you install a theme, you can run into weird problems because the theme hasn't been updated for the newest version of the Google apps yet.
When I did a clean install last week, Swift Black wouldn't theme my Google app. An update a few days later fixed this.
So I disable automatic updates and wait for a Swift Black update after the apps which I have themed are updated. This way it alsways works with Swift Black.
But to theme GBoard, you need to read the FAQ (some manual steps are required).
Hope that helps.

Domination is another outstanding black theme that gets updated regularly. Also, keep in mind that it's ok to use overlays from different themes on certain apps while your waiting for theme updates should your base theme not work on a particular app :good:

Like I said above, the only overlay that gives me trouble is the "Android system" one. If I activate it (black with Pixel accent colors), my pop-up windows are black on black and my power menu blue on blue, i.e. I can't see any text. It's odd, it worked well on Nougat.
Edit: I wonder if it's the automatic (and stupid) day/night mode from Oreo that's being a PITA? Because my current wallpaper is dark and it triggers the dark mode for some stuff. Why did Google add this and not a toggle to enable/disable it?!

It also themes the power menu, which is one of the areas that don't get themed properly. I also switched to a light wallpaper and all my QS were gone (probably black on black again)! Something is definitely fishy on Oreo :/

I don't have the issue you describe using Swift Black for system.
Same here, I'm 100% stock using swift black and couldn't be happier. No issues at all.
I'm guessing Swift Black is the winner here!
About the power menu, it's actually the advanced power menu that isn't themed properly (the one added by Gravity Box through Xposed). And also random pop-up windows like when I'm connecting a Bluetooth device.
I use Spectrum as my main theme. Domination is my second theme and is used to theme apps that Spectrum doesn't, such as XDA Labs. It also is used for the Google apps when Spectrum can't theme the app, though that can be hit or miss. For example, Photos cannot be changed to black by either theme at the moment.
Google seems to update their apps every other day, which gives the themers headaches. Of course, in Android P it may all end up being moot.
PitchBlack is my go theme... Updates regularly and plenty options..

Are you creating the modules then rebooting before applying? Since March update that's what you need to do. The modules will show up after rebooting.

I'm creating the overlays using the "build & update" option then rebooting and applying them. If you don't reboot, they don't show up in the Substratum manager.
Right now, I'm waiting to get a payment from Rewards so I can buy one theme or two. We'll see.

I disabled all overlays, rebooted, everything was stock theme. Did build and enable for swift black, rebooted, (twice) everything but contacts and phone is themed. Did this quickly this morning before work, maybe a error on my part. Will try again tonight.

I would delete the overlays before rebuilding them.
On my Pixel 2 XL stock (Not Rooted) I still have to Build/Enable and then reboot and enable again. Does anyone else have this issue? I should not need to "Enable" overlays twice.

Now that you mention it, I'm almost positive I did delete and not disable. Either way I'll check it out later, thanks for the advice.

[Exposed Module][Pie] NavigationBar Clock

A simple module that puts a clock on the navigation bar. I personally use it to get a little more space for the notification icons on the statusbar, using gravitybox to move the clock to the center[1].
The module only puts the clock on the navigation bar when the device is in portrait.
The clock responds to changes on the nav bar color along with the buttons (gets dark when the background is light), but colors are not perfect[2].
I plan to implement changes to the statusbar clock from within the module but for now I don't know how to do it, and I'm busy studying.
Hope you like it!
(ps.: the clock in the middle on the screenshots gets hidden behind the notch[1])
[1] GravityBox no longer needed to remove the clock!
[2] Colors were corrected on update V2.
Update V2:
- Colors are more accurate now;
- It now dimms when the clock is white (I'm planning to make a Manager 'app' to customize it)(It's a little glitchy sometimes but works fine);
- Bug: I've noticed a problem when I reboot, open chrome and try to open a new tab the system stops oppening apps (but only if I do it right after rebooting, I'm still investigating this.);
Mini Update V2.1:
- The mod now automatically removes the clock from the statusbar when not in landscape! (GravityBox no longer needed!)
- Color change (from white to black, etc) is perfect now!
- Dimming temporarely disabled (Will re-implement later);
- APK Size is much smaller (Removed some things auto added by Android Studio);
Update V3.0.0:
- There are two versions:
-> the one with a 'c' at the end has an customization screen (can change colors, position and hide/show statusbar clock);
-> the other one is just as the older versions, but it works on LineageOs based roms (Tested on RessurectionRemix(I think) by @InfinityXDA!);
* This module is not yet ready to use on Roms based on LineageOs. I'm working on it and it seems to be already fixed (Will be added on V3.0).
Hello, do I go to Magisk Manager to use this? I don't have the option in Magisk Manager. Maybe I'm using the wrong one? not sure.
Sorry. Just a noob here. Thanks.

Wich theme? I only made it so the clock follows the navigation icons from light to dark (couldn't find a way to get the actual button's color). If you describe the problem I can look into it. (Or are you mentioning the Substratum Theme Engine as a whole? This mod should not interfeere on it... it just adds a layout with the clock on the navigation bar).

EdXposed Installer zip: https://github.com/ElderDrivers/EdXposed/releases/download/v0.3.1.7/magisk-EdXposed-v0.3.1.7_beta-release.zip
After installing you just get the NavigationBar Clock apk, install it normally and activate the module on EdXposed Installer app.
Edit: Don't install it if you don't have the experience... You might get into bootloops and such. I only tested it on stock ROM and I don't know hot it behaves on other ROMs (Should not cause any problems though). In my device the install process was smooth.

The clock in status bar is not hidden in both portrait and landscape. I still got the clock in navigation bar though (v2.1).

Are you using any other xposed module?
Are you on stock Pie rom?
It's working fine here, try disabling other modules and see if it works

Strange.. Are you using GravityBox? I've made a little workaround for GB users, I'll release it later.
I'm working on some easy way to get log from users. I'll take a look on this, thanks for the info!
@InfinityXDA Try this apk, is the new one with the workaround for GravityBox. Tell me if the clock shows up or shows "??:??".
