How can see that I have a shop ROM? - Xiaomi Mi 6 Questions & Answers

Hi everybody,
I just bought the Mi6 and everything works fine.
But now I am confused whether I have a Shop ROM or just the Global ROM from Xiaomi. How can I see that? Don't want to flash global ROM if I already have it.
The ROM is in my langugage (german) and I was able to choose between a lot of languages. I also had the Play Store installed.
Edit: Facts from the Settings Menu:
Android Version 7.7.1 NMF26X
MIUI Version: MIUI Global 8.2 Stable NCAMIEC

Yes, it's the official version.Don't worry, you can get updates in settings.

You have the official Global version.
Don't worry.
If you ever get into trouble and want to re install just go to the software update in settings, select download update and follow the instructions.
I did this just to make sure everything is ok and it's fine. Also we will receive OTAs no problem.
You'll notice that LTE and WiFi and GPS works very well in your region and that everything Google/Playstore is just fine.

Does a global ROM for this phone exist?

Because according to my online seller it does.
Question roughly translates to: Which ROM? If I encounter any issues can you help to claim the warranty (to China)?
He answered "Global ROM. Yes I can help"
But the question now is: does a global official stable ROM even exist for this phone? Isn't it China-only?
I bought the MI 5s Plus 64 GB in China a few days ago. I can confirm you there is no Global ROM yet. However, the stock Chinese ROM has English as language. You can also install Google Play Store and uninstall any bloatware default apps.
There is an Unofficial EU ROM if you wish to try.
https://xiaomi.eu/community/forums/xiaomi-mi5s-plus.149/
I got the Mi5s (not plus) last week and it shipped with miui 8 global rom including pretty much any language not just english and chinese!
Please note that the MIUI rom could be manipulated by the guy who installed it. Currently there is no official global rom from Xiaomi for the 5s. All the currently sold ones with Global ROM are unpacked by the seller and reinstalled with some MIUI rom, which could be manipulated. Also OTA updates won't work with those mobiles
I'm also waiting for an official global rom, it's just not sure yet if there will be one.
I bought this phone with chinese rom and I was going to flash global rom as soon as it is released. but I'm not planning to change the rom anymore. I have debloated it myself and I'm happy with it at the moment.
I have to admit, I'm pretty disappointed. I honestly didn't realize I wouldn't be getting official MIUI.
Is there any particular way for me to see if there is any harmful backdoor software installed? So far this "global ROM (8.6.10.0)" seems solid enough, all functions seem to work except that when I go into the updater and try to choose an install package it tells me to install file explorer first....
I'm downloading the stable, official Chinese ROM right now... Not sure if I'll install it or not though...

I got such a vendor "global" rom, tried to flash with official chinese zip, did not work -> verification problem.
unlocked bootloader, flashed twrp and xiaomi eu rom based on official chinesese developer rom..
Will wait for global rom as chinese rom is too much bloated..
If they launch it in india(hope so), global rom will exist, otherwise xiaomi eu forever...

So, you had success in unlocking BL and flashing twrp? Did you follow a guide? Do you have a link?

All good for me except fingerprint (may be due to plastic cover.. will try later after receiving my tempered glass)
I have an mi account which i used for unlocking..
You can create an account then use this link
http://en.miui.com/unlock/
Once they approve they will send a mail with link to download the unlocking software
You should install that, then run it and login in that..
You can unlock it there
install required tools- fastboot ... drivers.. (for me standard android sdk was sufficient...)
After installing those..
You should shutdown device completely then hold volume down and power button at same time to enter fastboot mode
Then connect mobile using cable to your pc
below command should list your device once connected...
fastboot devices
Download the twrp from link given here http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5s/development/recovery-twrp-3-0-2-0-t3480133
make sure that its for proper device (mine is mi5s not plus)
if it a zip extract the img file.. then type command
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
then to boot in to recovery
fastboot boot twrp.img
my twrp defaults to chinese so to change language refer video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOhR92EKD7A
download xiaomi eu for your device
from here https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/6-10-20.35693/
Then follow standard twrp flashing guidelines..
You can find it everywhere ( >>> Factory Reset >> Wipe select partitions >> install from internal memory if you already copied it there OR sideload using adb from pc)
PS: (I had formatted system partition as well without issues)
my back button was not working properly but after reboot it was ok..
Thank you very much [email protected] for the explanation.
I will try the procedure today evening when i'm home from work.
Update:
worked fine for me. Thank you very much!
Thanks for all the replies, but went ahead and bought the Note 4 instead. Camera is my only complaint against it, otherwise it's a really great first experience with Xiaomi!

I just bought 5s 128 GB in Malaysia which is directly import (not from official dealer) with Stable Global ROM 8.0.10.0.0 (MAGCNDH) Build MXB48T as per attached. There is no bloatware and quite stable.
Can anyone confirm it is a real global ROM from Xiaomi or a modified ROM?

The additional 0 at the end of the MIUI version and the CN in the MAGCNDH shows that it is a chinese ROM which was manipulated.
So you won't be able to update it, and I at least could not unlock the bootloader because the xiaomi tool did not recognize it as a xiaomi phone....
So I built me a deep flash cable and flashed chinese official ROM, unlocked it and flashed TWRP and xiaomi.eu ROM....

Here is what I did to get an official ROM instead of the malware infected 8.6.10.0:
At first I have to mention that using the EDL Method is very dangerous because you will probably brick your phone if it goes wrong.
If you are not sure about something better ask here before doing anything wrong. The phone should have a full battery and save all your files because the phone will be wiped during the proccess.
Step 1. Download the latest official MIUI Fastboot ROM for Mi 5s:
http://bigota.d.miui.com/V8.0.10.0....AGCNDH_20160805.0000.29_6.0_cn_49ab3a5120.tgz
(!!! Important - When flashing the ROM with the Xiaomi FlashTool in the step 3. you have browse into the /images Folder. - Browsing into the wrong folder and flashing wrong files will probably brick your phone !!!)
Step 2. Turn your phone into EDL Mode:
http://xiaomitips.com/guide/how-to-put-mi-5-into-edl-mode/
(Use Option #1 - Option #2 and #3 does not work)
Step 3. Use this Tutorial to flash the Fastboot ROM to your device. Use Method #3 , as Method #1 and #2 does not work anyway with the fake ROM 8.6.10.0.
http://xiaomitips.com/guide/how-to-flash-miui-8-fastboot-and-recovery-rom/
( Skip Step 4,5,6 because your phone is already in the EDL Mode)
This helped me out go get the official Chinese ROM 8.0.10.0. Out of this ROM you can use the MIUI Updater function in the phone to install any other official ROM for the Mi 5s.

There will never be a global ROM for this phone.
It's a China only device.
I still have a little hope that they might start to sell it in India, which typically means there will be a global rom. But so far nothing is announced, so at the moment there is no hope for an official and signed global rom.

My Mi 5s has the same ROM and it works flawlessly. Benchmark results are far ahead compering to those from reviews on YouTube. I was able to unlock bootloader in first try, no problem. If you use Windows 10 make sure to load proper drivers. I don't believe that any reseller is able to compile such perfectly working ROM. It must be Xiaomi that stay behind this, but this is what I believe. As you sad all languages are there and even some you don't find in official global ROM. I will keep this one until official global I released. Be patient.

Hi. Those versions are only available through the updater app if you have China dev or global dev ROM installed. Your device will come with global stable probably and to experience miui 9 and android 7 you will have to flash twrp and flash the dev ROM or use MiFlash with the fastboot method.

If it's from gearbest i think it will come with global stable.
About the unlocked bootloader , i don't think so , but there are tutorials to flash roms without unlocking the bootloader if you wanna hurry flashing . The best is to unlock it officially and proceed after with flashing.
MIUI 9 - v7.10.19 - China Developer Rom .. That's the final rom they have released (until now) that I downloaded..
Probably it comes with GApps and Chinese 'bloatware' (I would throw them away with Titanium backup, no problem).
Does this have some problems?? Anyone installed this specific version yet?

Hi! If you refer to the post above you , yea , i've tested the china developer rom. It does not have gapps and has chinese xiaomi apps that can be uninstalled.
If you guys want to try the china developer rom , you can download the latest version from xiaomi.eu , it's based on it and has gapps. Also , it is optimised for a smoother experience and no bloatware.

[Q] I have a mountain of questions before I decide to buy this phone :)

Hello everyone,
I have got a mountain of questions that arised from reading the forum and a lot of different topics.
I'll have numbers on them, so if you can/want to only answer a few of them you can refer to the number.
1. I've read about this ARB quite a lot, what's the deal with that if I want to go to a custom rom?
2. I understood that it matters where to buy the device in terms of an unlocked bootloader (TradingShenzen seems like a good place to start). But if I can't get my hands on a phone with unlocked bootloader, can I unlock it myself?
3. I'd like to go with the xiaomi.eu rom, any advice on how to get there? What I mean is, should I choose a CN model or is a Global model better, does it matter? What steps to take regarding TWRP and avoiding ARB, etc.
4. What does GSI stand for? I haven't found any thread explaining what that means, and I'm quite new to xiaomi devices (would be my first one).
5. I've also seen that there are quite a few different variants of this device, do the roms for it just work on all of them or do I need to check if the model is supported? (That seems to be a bit different to other phone vendors)
That's it for now, please don't kill me if some of the things have been answered before, I haven't found an answer to the questions so far (the infos that I got so far were insufficient)
Cheers,
Zacki
1 Google introduced ARB, a safeguard to not create an older version of the system from the currently released. If you install the official older version of the system for a new one, you will wall your phone.
Does not apply to Custom ROM
2 You can unblock the bootloader yourself on the official xiaomi website. It takes about 300 hours
3 unlock the bootloader, install recovery, install xiaomi.eu. Global rom is more stable, but xiaomi.eu has more personalization options. Recently, xiaomi.eu does not cause problems on Mi Max3, but it causes problems on other models.
4 GSI https://source.android.com/setup/build/gsi
5 Mi Max3 Global 4gb RAM 64gb internal memory,
Mi Max China 6gb RAM 128gb internal memory
You can install the Global ROM on the china version if you have unlocked the boootloader, and remember about the ARB. Otherwise, you will wall your phone
The Global version is popular.

Thanks for your reply.
@1. Interesting to see what Google is up to with things like this...why would they want this?
@2. Thanks, but whoa that's quite some time...and I guess I can only trigger the 300h AFTER I bought the phone, right? (Why so many hours actually...?)
@3. I've read about the changes they made to the rom and I like that. But what do you mean with being "less stable" than the global rom? In what way? I'd like to use that as my daily driver if I get it (not the weekly builds of course).
@4. Will have a look, thanks :good:
@5. I was actually looking at the 6GB/128GB version of the phone, if I can convince my wife to allow me to spend ~260€ on a phone (I'm currently a student ).
In this case, I'd already have an unlocked bootloader and if I want to install the rom from xiaomi.eu, there should be no problem, right? Also regarding ARB, this should be fine, right?
And in what ways are the CN and the Global versions different other than the rom? Are there differences for the supported bands or radios? I live in Austria, can I use the CN model here without any downside?
Edit: I'm having a look at this particular model, it would be available with CN firmware or with Global firmware. Would that still account as CN model in this case?
TradingShenzhen - Mi Max 3 - 6gb-ram-128gb-rom-snapdragon-636

Google thinks people should use the latest system because it provides better security.
Xiaomi introduced a long wait time to unlock the bootloader, because dishonest sellers offered CN versions outside of China and India by installing the Global system on it. The CN version is only for China and India.
Xiaomi.eu provides its system every week. Contains various patches and additions. Sometimes something does not work, payments, BT paired in the car, notifications etc. In my phone, the last two versions do not work Gmail notifications. In today's version, people write that OK Google is not working.
If you unlock the bootloader, you can install xiaomi.eu. The ARB will be kept at the level of the official system you had.
The CN system contains only Chinese and English. It does not offer Google Play, it also contains full Chinese software.
Version 6/128 is only a CN model. If the seller offers with the Global system, it means that he has unlocked the bootloader and installed the Global system. You naturally lose the Xiaomi warranty.

So the xiaomi.eu roms don't have any of that ARB stuff, good to know. Could I technically install an older version of that custom rom without triggering the ARB or is that not possible? Just so I understand that.
And how is that with other custom roms? I've read in some threads that you have to make sure you have the correct ARB if you want to flash that particular rom, why that?

I'm not worried about the warranty but more about the specifics of the device. Is the CN model different in any way that it may not work properly with the providers in europe? Or things like that?
And sadly that vendor does not seem to have that version in stock at the moment, so I was thinking of getting the regular CN version of the device, that's why I'm asking
As for xiaomi.eu it does not contain ARB, but there are exceptions. If the phone gets an update to android 9 - xiaomi.eu must use the full original xiaomi firmware from ARB. The next versions on the same adroid no longer have files responsible for ARB.
Current level of ARB = 4 from Oreo to Pie. What you can not do:
to install MIUI9,
to install Miui Global on a CN version phone with a locked bootloader
block in the bootloader if you have Miui Global on your CN
install Miui China on a Global phone and block the bootloader.
Custom GSI roms do not have an ARB, you can install anything.
Mi Max 3 in the CN version in addition to the system and memory does not differ from the specification from Global. Will work in Austria.

So if I get the phone with Android 8.1 and I want to get MIUI 10 (Android 9) I need to update with the official rom and then flash the xiaomi.eu rom?
And while we are at that, if I buy the CN variant, do I have to upgrade to PIE with the CN official rom or can I also do this with the Global rom to get ARB to 4?
And what't the deal with the developer versions of the original roms? I've read something about them but would that help me in any way?

Working in Austria sounds good, but what exactly do you mean with "in addition to system and memory". The system and memory are different in the two versions and the rest is the same? Is there anything I should be aware of while using the phone?

it's not like that. You do not need to update the system. Xiaomi.eu is built with miui china developer extended to additional language translations, optimizations of softu for Europeans and a few additions that occur only in the Chinese version of the miui.
The whole system, firmware and kernel is miui china. If you install xiaomi.eu then you install the entire system, with the firmware and kernel. They are suitable for the android version.
You can have miui global Oreo and install xiaomi.eu Pie. Everything will be updated.
Miui Global is available in Stable and Dev versions. Dev-Beta is a development version released every week, contains the latest security, system fixes and errors detected in the Stable version, as well as new additions that are tested and do not always have to work correctly (like the development version of xiaomi.eu). As developers will correct detected errors, the stable version is created.
I just installed myself Global dev. I like it more than xiaomi.eu. Everything works so far. I usually use Global dev, and xiaomi.eu tests once in a while.

Some block the bootloader from ignorance or inadvertently.
When installing a new ROM by MiFlash, you have the following options:
install and block the bootloader (by default selected)
clean everything and install
save data and install

the parameters of the telephone accessories and the frequency ranges of the network are the same. The difference is 6gb RAM, 128gb Internal memory and MIUI china.

Interesting, because I've read somewhere that the normal and the dev version are more or less the same, just that you have to use the dev version in certain situations to "unbrick" because of something with the bootloader (but I don't actually remember the details).

Some block the bootloader from ignorance or inadvertently.
When installing a new ROM by MiFlash, you have the following options:
install and block the bootloader (by default selected)
clean everything and install
save data and install

I've also read about that tool, is it required to flash roms or can I do that via TWRP? And why would such an option be selected by default...? I've already seen someone brick his device because of that

the parameters of the telephone accessories and the frequency ranges of the network are the same. The difference is 6gb RAM, 128gb Internal memory and MIUI china.

Ok got that, and the MIUI china doesn't really matter once I'm on the xiaomi.eu rom.
Good, I think I might actually see that I can get the cash together and order the phone Getting excited now.
Any resources I should read before I might do something stupid?
If you have an unlocked bootloader then you install twrp and flash xiaomi.eu

Using dev to unlock the bootloader affected old phones. Currently, it does not matter. Rom useful as well as Stable.

Miflash is used to install only official miui Rom, you use the rom .Tgz package
It installs through Miflash with the cleaning option. It does not leave garbage in the old system.

If you have xiaomi.eu then china rom does not matter.
You can look for a seller who offers a phone with downloaded xiaomi.eu or miui global - to choose from
in the past, the sellers offered the china version.

So last question for now (I hope ), if I decide to get the EU version instead, can I still unlock the bootloader or is that only possible on the CN versions?
you can in any xiaomi

You can unblock the bootloader yourself on the official xiaomi website. It takes about 300 hours

I've just read in another thread that it is 720 hours that's full 30 days... I hope it's more the 300 hours you said but I fear I might have to wait a full month for that...
Can anyone confirm this number of hours?
Cheers
Usually it is 720 hours, but I checked it every now and then, after 4 days, this time has decreased by half.
It's 100% not decreased or changed it 720 hours. Unless you had a mi account before an unlocked a phone

That is an interesting note. I created an account a few days ago, when I ordered the phone. Does this already count as "having an account before trying to unlock"?

Red Magic 5g China rom on Global Version

Hello, is it possible to flash the China rom to a global rom device without rooting?
If yes, where I can get this China rom?
And:
Will the China rom work with the EU Providers? (In my case its Germany)
Thanks for your answers.
Best Regards
Dennis

Because I heared on the cn rom are more software features implemented.
Because face unlock and root without breaking fingerprint reader with the China ROM. I just tried installing Black Magic 5G on my global 12/256, and it's currently stuck in TWRP, won't flash anything correctly, won't boot, I'm assuming it's a global ROM issue, I'm trying to figure out how to flash the China ROM so I can start over and try Black Magic 5G again to see if that improves my results, so far I can't even get it to flash.
But if anyone wants it, I found a mega link to the latest China ROM that's suppose to be flashable through the factory recovery or TWRP. I haven't been able to get it working in TWRP, but if anyone wants to upload a TWRP backup of stock 12/256 global ROM so I can revert back to factory recovery and try flashing the China ROM that way, would be appreciated.

china rom will work on any region device.
Android 11 version of all 5G/S roms are universally able to flash.
you need to flash through system / local update, and you need to use the full rom zip.
...
features of China rom.
--China rom is bloated heavily with chinese apps that wont work in other regions due to needing a Nubia account ( which can only be made using a Chinese registered Phone number)
--these apps can be frozen / disabled.
there is no gapps / playstore. you need to install playstore seperately and then install the various google apps you use.
--stock rom you cannot change the launcher without doing some little tweaks.
-- NFC does NOT function in China rom, if you use NFC or want to use NFC, you will have to return to Global.
you do not need to root, or unlocked your device to change regions. just make sure you're locally updated to android 11, and install the region rom you wish through the system menu.

Hey. i have red magic 5G china version how i can put the global version

Hey. i have red magic 5G china version how i can put the global version
model: NX659J
there is any global official ROM available
THANK
Right now there is no official Global ROM for download, there is only the official China ROM from Nubia, and Black Magic 5G custom ROM which is a Global Clone based off of the official China ROM release, it's very close to being a Global Clone from what I've been seeing but haven't been able to get it working on my 12/256 Global. The only things I know so far is Black Magic 5G Doesn't have an App Drawer or NFC working yet, but given how ambitious the Dev is, it shouldn't be long before this is fixed.

Can you please share the link for these ROM's? Also, do you know if there is a developer doing a custom ROM right now? If it is, who is?
I was looking for something related to ROM's but I can't find anything.
Hello
Not sure why you want to change to global rom. But if it's for calls and text messages to work in the USA. You really just have to fastboot flash the non-hlos.bin file. Which is the modem. If it's cause you want nfc and your a cn version phone. Never gonna get it. Nfcis not on the cn version at all. And it's blocked by a script. I can give you the non-hlos.bin file I flashed to get global phone services. But a warning!!! If you flash this file you will not receive ota updates. And if you do. It will fail to update. Apparently when I flashed that modem. It changed how the phone recieves ota updates

Yes, you can, I also have the Chinese version smartphone, but had several problems, including in the 4g that had no network.
Simply download version 4.09 and put in the main directory of the phone, go to update, click on the three dots on top right and choose manual update, then you choose the downloaded file and update without problems.
