[GUIDE][FAQ] [ze551ml] (my) Sim 1 no signal/no network [FIX]

BEFORE YOU READ THIS ARTICLE:
- This is not a step by step explanation. There are already published tutorials with very good explanations. However, I will share my own experience and try to guide you and solve the problems you may encounter when unbricking your phone.
Said so,
I wanna thank you all for the effort you put in to demystify the unbrick of this beautiful smartphone. However, some of us have experienced problems after all those steps.
So, for those of you who have these problems:
MY IMEI IS 0049... -----> search for a tutorial on how to use PhoneTool 191. You have 2 options - (1) Install a SERVICE ROM (already rooted) and change both IMEIs (using setprop to change the target IMEI) or (2) ROOT your current ROM and use ADB with these commands - adb shell | su | setprop system.at-proxy.mode 1 (for SIM 1) and setprop system.at-proxy.mode 3 (or 4) for SIM 2.
MY SIM 1 IS "NOT INSTALLED" ------> If you suspect it is not a hardware problem, then deactivate SIM 1. Remove SIM Card from Slot 1. Then, activate SIM 1. Insert Card and wait for PIN insertion. Keep trying this or alternatively insert SIM Card on SLOT 2. Then insert PIN. Deactivate SIM 1. Remove SIM Card from SLOT 2. Activate SIM 1 and after the message INSERT SIM 1 on SLOT 1. It should ask for a PIN. At least on my case using last WW ROM 5.0 (UL-Z00A-WW-2.20.40.198-user.zip) .
MY SLOT 1 ALREADY ASKS FOR PIN BUT I SEE NO NETWORK/CROSS ON THE NETWORK ICON -----> if your IMEIs are already the right ones/not blocked in your operator, you should check if your PHONE's SERIAL NUMBER is correct. If it is not, there is a file called factory.zip where you can alter file "ssn" and file "PhoneInfo_inf" to your correct serial nr. NOTE: YOU MUST USE AN HEX EDITOR CAUSE "ssn" file should finish the serial number with an HEX "0A". Reboot phone and everything should be fine.
IF THERE IS STILL NO NETWORK.. and probably your phone is a CN version (like mine), you SHOULD UNLOCK BOOTLOADER. I wasn't able to do it with the official APK, probably because of my bad serial (even after I corrected it with the method described). So I googled it and found some nice tools: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenf...odder-t3458145. Use the "UNLOCK.bat" file.
- After unlocking bootloader, when the OS started, my phone started to gather network on SIM 1!!!
If you have questions or doubts and need a more detailed explanation, feel free to post it here. I will try to help you out. And btw, if you cannot repair your serial using ASUS FLASH TOOL (AFT) and a RAW file of an original ROM, probably the bootloader is locked and you need to change the serial manually (you must copy factory folder of factory.zip file into the root path of your phone and of course, change ssn and PhoneInfo_inf files using an HEX Editor like xview32 freeware like I said before).
FACTORY.ZIP --> http://www.megafileupload.com/oz7F/factory.zip
I hope you can fix your SIM 1 SLOT :good:!
Big hug from Portugal,
João
hello link for factory.zip don't work. can you re upload please ?

How to manually update AT&T Motorola Z2 Force

To update to Oreo without an active AT&T sim.
1. Download this official AT&T Oreo firmware to your computer
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=673956719939833410
Firmware above should match this version which is the latest AT&T firmware.
https://www.att.com/devicehowto/tut...?make=Motorola&model=MotoZ2XT1789&gsi=N8TH4fU
2. Download Lenovo Moto Smart Assist
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds101291
3. Enable USB Debugging on your device usually via settings on your phone and you press on About > Build numerous times until it states Developer settings enabled then you enable ADB USB Debugging there.
https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-213471/
4. rename the zip firmware you downloaded in step one to update.zip and place it in the top level of your internal storage of your device from within Windows Explorer you will need to set your phone to USB file transfer mode instead of charging (the default) by pulling the notification area down on your phone and setting the USB mode there.
5. After that is done unplug the USB cable from your PC and plug it back in again.
6. Open the Lenovo Moto Smart Assist in Windows go to Flash it will look for updates and immediately the Update button will be enable because you have an update.zip on your phone. Click Update, let it finish rebooting your phone and whatnot and viola welcome to Android Oreo on your Moto Z2.
==> DO NOT POWER OFF YOUR DEVICE DURING FLASH ==<
Since you my end up with a soft bricked device and will have to find methods on XDA to restore it, but you should be able to do this directly from fastboot.
Begin by pressing the Power button for a few moments to turn off
the Moto Z device
In the next step hold down Volume Down and Power keys for a short while.
Let go of all keys when you see Fastboot Mode.
Once your in fastboot just repeat the steps above.
Note: You will get some security & permission prompts if it is the first time using Smart Assist. Do what it states.
If your device is not detected you might need Motorola Drivers here
https://mega.nz/#!buYjzAaR!3Xx0MHYJqIJ8JjdSKxRaEP4AkifzUd3XX8dXKuTVZ1I
or here via MDM (Motorola Device Manager) https://support.motorola.com/us/en/drivers
I found this out after numerous attempts with AT&T sim cards and trying to let the update happen in the Lenovo Moto Smart Assist but there was no progress indicator and sometimes the download would fail..but this worked for me.

Thanks for this.
I just did the update with the tool above. The tool actually offers you the option to download the latest OCXS27.109-47-14 image. Though it's still the September 1, 2018 security updated image.
As instructed, you just install the software and accept permissions.
Click on "Flash"
In the Flash section, under "New Ver:" there is an option to download the latest. What it will do is download the image and unzip it.
Once the image is ready, you can Click "Update" and follow the instructions.
If you use the default settings for install, there is a log file you can use to watch detailed progress. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo Moto Smart Assistant\logs"
Be patient at 51% it's likely copying the files during this time.

The smart assist tool installs fastboot during the update process and it goes into the bootloader screen when it performs the update. So as long as it's the official image, there might be a way. I'm not sure, I did the update with my windows vm.

I am thinking the smart assist has privileged access to flash via security keys because when I tried flashing via fastboot or even from recovery via the zip file I did not have permissions, at least that's what happened to me.
The firmware file seems to be for z2 "play". Will it work for z2 "force" model?

I did successfully updated mt at&t z2 force to January 2019 security update. I could not make the manual method work for me, but LMSA already lists the January 2019 patch. All you need to do is install motorola drivers and LMSA, allow USB debugging and connect your phone to your computer. Then let LMSA recognize the phone and it will show latest update. Download it directly in LMSA, and the Upgrade button will become available.
February security patch released April 30 for AT&T Z2 Force. I didn't get it OTA as of yesterday (5/5). I guess I'll try LMSA.

There are two uploads for Feb security patch on mirrors.lolinet.com. Both was uploaded on May. The 2nd one has the text "FIX NFC".

[BOOTLOADER][UNLOCK] Found new service that works

Hello,
As unlocking our Huawei Nova became very difficult, I wanted to share with you a service that I bought to unlock my own. It is https://www.gsmzambia.com.
It costs only $3, which is a very low price compared to other known services, and it just works.
Though, the way they operate can be a little scary because they unlock you phone by remotely taking the control of your PC with Teamviewer (you will have to send them your ID + Password), your phone must be connected with USB and set in "Manufacture mode". It works only on Windows with an account having administrator rights because they have to install some phone maintenance and unlock softwares on your PC in order to reveal the bootloader unlock code (As I am a little paranoid, I deleted all my files and made a restoration point before).
The process is very well described in the emails they send to you after purchase.
After the code is revealed by their software, the operator copy/pasted it for me in a text file. And it was done.
So they don't unlock your phone, they just communicate the bootloader unlock code to you. You will have to type the corresponding fastboot command with this code as parameter.
Even if I really think it is safe and they didn't do anything apart from their business, I restored Windows in its previous state, just to be 100% sure.
I really hope this can helps.
EDIT: As @zgfg said, the android security patch is important here. Mine was from 1st march 2017, so pretty old. This is why it worked.

What is your Android Security Patch date as from Settings/About?
If your Security Patch date is before June 2018, then there are alse other services where you can buy the Bootloader code for the similar price of 4-5 $
But problems start for Huawei phones with firmwares whose Security Patch date is newer than June 2018
E.g., my Security Patch date is well past June 2018, hence gsmzambia redirected me to their another page/service which costs 12$ (no more 3$), but even worse, page says that such service is offline - hence pretty much as expected, similar situation as with many other services who do not support Bootloader codes for Huawei phones/firmwares with the new (already 19 months old) Bootloader

I think your right, I checked my phone and the security patch is from the 1st march 2017. So this is why the bootloader unlock code was easier to discover.

VOLTE Success, Activation without Firmware Replacement (Sony Mobile withdrawal area)

Hello Xperia users! In the meantime, I finally solved the VOLTE problem! I approached Qualcomm's diagnostic port-active-efsExplorer and solved the problem by inserting a VOLTE profile from my carrier

After downloading the firmware via Xperia Pim, change the extension to Modem.img in the Modem.sin file and extract it to the compression program (7z) to view the folder! Surprisingly, the world's telecommunications company VOLTE EFS file is hidden. +_+ Take advantage of it! You can open the VOLTE menu through the magazine module.

how to
Even with the great contributors' information, I think there are a few areas where I struggle.
For additional information, I will post my success stories.
I'm posting them in machine translation. Please forgive me if it's hard to read.
STEP 1: Implement the Tools You Need
Please install the following tools.
QPST(QPST_2.7.460)
Qualcomm-hs-usb-diagnostics-9091-952454(DIAG driver)
Flashtool (and XperiaFirm)
newflasher(INSTALL is unnecessary, but please get it.)
*All of the above were available on the internet as of 8/15.
STEP2: Get a "modem" that supports VoLTE.
As a prerequisite (regardless of the DualSim/SinglSim model)
For countries that want to use VoLTE, SONY is offering
  Official firmware is required.
  In my example.
Purchased model: XQ-AT52 (for Hong Kong)
The country where you want to use it: Japan -> SO-51A is available.
(The difference in the number of slots in the SIM doesn't affect it. )
  This is the case.
If the firmware to run VoLTE does not exist in the country where you want to use it
  This method does not work.
The annotations are long, but here are the steps.
Use XperiFirm, provided by SONY in the country where you want to use VoLTE.
   Download the firmware.

STEP3: Use the newflasher to write the firmware from STEP2 to your Xperia 1 ii.
In this case, if you want to burn into a model with a different number of SIM slots
Example: Writing SO-51A firmware to XQ-AT52
→The SIM will not be recognized, but it is temporary.
STEP4: Use EFS Explorer to get the necessary files.
Follow the steps of the great htcmage and have your Xperia 1 ii recognized by EFS Explorer.
  4-1: Install the QPST.
4-2:Install Magisk on your Xperia 1 ii.
Therefore, it is mandatory to unlock the bootloader.
4-3:Execute the commands at the command prompt as follows.
    adb shell
su
setprop persist.usb.eng 1
Magisk's permission is now required to get SuperUser privileges in su.
Note: From the Magisk menu, go to "# SuperUser" and click on
     You can allow.
4-4: The debug mode is disconnected, so you need to re-enable it.
4-5: If you have installed the qualcomm-hs-usb-diagnostics-9091-952454 (DIAG driver), you can use
It is recognized by EFS Explorer.
4-6: On the Phone Selectio screen, Banner selects the ROW port.
STEP 5: Back up the files required for VoLTE activation.
Before following the steps below, you must have the SIM of the line/carrier you want to enable VoLTE on.
    Please plug in.
I have backed up the following folders.
There may be some things you don't need, but at least it works.
   Data_Profiles
efsprofiles
Ims.
nv/item_files/datamodem
nv/item_files/ims
nv/item_files/mcfg
nv/item_files/modem
STEP6: Write the firmware you want to use, and copy the file from STEP5 to
   Override.
Follow steps 3 to 4 of STEP 3 to 4 to get the firmware you want to use.
Write & make EFS Explorer recognize it. (Don't remove the SIM.)
Then, overwrite it with the files backed up in STEP 5.
You should probably now have VoLTE available.
Thanks to the person who walked me through the Magisk installation process, and to the great htcmage.
Also, I pray that others wandering in the same sea of information will be saved.

I used a software called S1 Unlock Tool. You need to buy a credit from this website: https://networkunlocking.com/shop/sony-xperia-cable-unlock-0-counter-supported/. There is also a link to download the software. Along with unlocking your phone it will also grant you access to unlock your bootloader if you wish to do so. I did this and tried to root my phone but I wasn't successful, it just soft bricked my phone and was stuck in a boot loop. I had to use Xperia Companion to restore my phone. Maybe you can't root the Japanese variants, I'm not sure. I saw on here on another forum that you can root the Xperia 1 II.

Samsung S9 SM-G960w

Hi, this is a phone rooting forum right? I ran into some malware that has somehow made its way into the providers protected area or some other location and persists through factory data resets. I have a Samsung s9 and I was told by Oneroot.com that my phone was not rootable due to the build/security etc. I am just looking for a second opinion or alternative possibilities incase they were wrong as the phone is garbage without root permissions because of the infection. Thanks. Here is a little info on the phone:

Is there anything I can do to take back control? It's a nasty worm malware originating from windows PC and anything I connect my device to auto injects malicious files into other devices. The whole network and every device from Amazon firesticks to laptops to PCs to Linux are all affected by it. Thanks.
Factory reset for Android 10. Don't unlock the bootloader or root
PC, zero fill the hdd and reload.
Reflash the router bios to latest version.
Use good firewalls on all devices.
Don't install the malware again; vetted apps only.
If it's in your database you need to find and delete it. You are what you load.
