Moto Z2 Play FM Radio - Moto Z2 Play Questions & Answers

Does this phone (I hope!) come with an app to listen to OTA FM Radio?
If not, does it at least have a chip that supports OTA FM Radio?
If the answer to both those questions is 'no', has anyone heard of a Moto Mod FM radio in development yet?
With everything this phone may one day be able to do, I really hope it can become a viable replacement for my beloved Droid 4. I have found a landscape keyboard mod, now if I can only get my lapdock and an FM radio running on the Moto Z2 Play, it might be worth the upgrade!

Comes with an FM Tuner built in as well as the app to listen. It uses your wired earbuds as the antenna. Or you can buy a cheap 3.55mm antenna from Amazon to plug in.

FM Radio App?

Any FM radio gurus out there working on a GN app?
FM radio will only work if there is an FM radio in the phone. i know there was one hidden in the nexus one and it worked well after unlocked but i'm not to sure about the galaxy nexus.
Sure looking fwd to it, FM is rampant at the gym.

An app isn't the problem.
The lack of usable FM hardware is the problem.
See this for a previous discussion: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1314191
Nothing has changed:
(1) No Silicon Labs FM chip.
(2) The Broadcom FM chip antenna pins do not seem to go anywhere useful.
End of story IMO unless someone can prove (1) or (2) is incorrect, which I doubt.
Google doesn't like/want OTA FM IMO. The Nexus One was a fluke, as it was an HTC Desire derivative that didn't have the FM disabled.
you can always download tunein radio, it's free at getjar
No FM!
The lack of FM radio was almost a dealbreaker for me. I rarely listened to it on my Galaxy S but it was nice on occasion. There is always the online streaming but that eats into your data plan, unless you sit somewhere with free WiFi.

Another vote for tune in. You can even set the stream quality, perfect for those of you on limited data plans.

Spirit FM on slim bean 4.2.1 stable

Can anybody please tell me how can I use spirit FM on my galaxy s? Is it safe enough? I've heard that it may cause speaker damage. Is it true? Is there any other app available for galaxy s to use fm radio?

There is no other FM Radio. Spirit FM caused (or still causes) speaker damage to 3-4% of the Galaxy S users so there's only a slight chance of that happening. The speaker can be damaged even if you only use it with headphones. If you have used Spirit FM for more than 5 minutes and everything is still good, your phone is not in any danger and you can continue to use it for as long as you like. I use it every single day for 2-3 hours (the trip to work and when shopping) since last year and my speaker is just fine. I have the unlocked version and the developer works on a safer method for Galaxy S and releases the improved one with every new version.
Can you please give me the link from where you downloaded the app? Or I will be gratefully to you if you give me the app you are currently using by any means. Thanks in advance.

[Q] APT-X?

OK I have an LG phone and a LG 730+ headset, but it seems that my LG headset has APT-X support and my new LG-G3 doesn't. Which seems weird that a flagship phone does not have the codex that their headset would. Has anyone found support for APT-X on this new G3 phone? Since I don't know enough about the APT-X codex, is it hardware or software based? I asked because if it's software based maybe it can be added with an upgrade from LG, if hardware then it looks like I'm SOL and I really thought buying this phone would get me APT-X support.
I'm not sure exactly what aptx is but I do see them on my headphones as well buy my headset works fine with my g3
A few minutes on Google and I found this info...
From the aptX site:
http://www.aptx.com/product/lg-g3-smartphone
On LG's site, the spec listing shows Bluetooth 4.0 LE (APT-x) Connectivity:

So few devices use this codec. I definitely can't head difference. Used my Samsung that does support it and my g3. So change in sound quality at all. Head phones work just fine.
AWESOME G3
Heard it may not be enabled on t-mobile
OK thanks everyone for looking at LG's website and checking the specification (why I didn't do tha) but I heard that the t-mobile version in the US may not be enabled for APT-X codec, again another thing removed for no reason. Since I have root any terminal command to check this would be appreciated. I tried the one "getprop persist.service.btui.use_aptx" which was the way to check on the LG2 but it isn't the same I guess with kitkat. So I have no clue if the rumors are right that big Pink T won't support aptx.
I think T-Mobile rumors of them not supporting it is fallacy. Simply because other devices have it installed. From Sony, Samsung, and HTC. I think it's more possibly if it's no additional charge and a default thing it's there. If the manufacturer has it as an option and charges for it T-Mobile may have forgone paying the extra(like headsets for example).

How to enable FM radio in OnePlus 3?

OP3 dont have out of the box FM support, however snapdragon 820 has inbuilt the required circuitry. Like Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge Samsung gave update later to enable that. We can wait for OP team (how to reach them to ask for this?). or our own way to built that with/without rooting.
Question is how?
S7 had the hardware. We don't.
The radio is there, OPO also had FM radio. Problem is the antenna pin on the chipset has to be connected to headphone jack (with resistors and a capacitor) so your headset cable can be used as an antenna. Even if you compiled a kernel with the driver for FM radio you would still get 0 signal.
I really cannot understand. I relly do not think it is a money issue to connect the antenna! few cents for a nice to have feature!
It is really a pity.
Well most kernels still require headphones to make it work. Still can use speaker. Antenna is the headphones. Why can't someone do this?

The chip does not support it on OP3. It may have the prequesites, but its not connected to the chip.
You can even connect a satellite dish and you wont get a signal. This is no software thing.
The hardware of the OP3 isn't designed to receive FM radio signals AKA it isn't designed to listen to FM radio
Why? I would rather listen to adfree mp3's or I Heart Radio app, that has both AM&FM stations (plus better quality sound).

Buying advice/review site?

Hey folks,
I'm planning to replace my headunit - currently using a Pumpkin headunit (MTCE, KLD, 4GB RAM, octacore, Hal9k mod).
Before flipping through thousands of threads in the forum (as the search won't work for me too look for any existing threads, always something about "security error occured") I'd like to know if there are any good sites where current models are being evaluated/compared?
I don't give much care fore OEM function support (my car doesn't even have CAN-/LIN-Bus) however I'd like a headunit with "good" sound quality and the "standard" stuff (GPS, WiFi or built-in 4G module, bluetooth/hands free, steering wheel button support) and maybe a volume knob instead of 2 buttons.
Oh - definetly looking for universal 2din unit without an oversized screen or stuff as I like to keep it rather flush form-wise. (see pic)
As far as I understand the newer headunits with a PX6 board are superior to the px5 ones, despite having a hexacore only?
Anything else I should watch out for? Any "bad" manufactureres? Anything that stands out?
Best regards and thanks in advance!
