T mobile s8 plus temporarily Unlocked - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I tried permanent unlocking but it says it is not eligible, however i got it temporarily unlocked till august. so is there any way that i can make it permanent or any hacks that lets the temporary unlock stay forever.
Any hopes?

I was thinking about the same. Wonder what is it that relocks it after the 30 days. is it the t mobile app?
Was thinking what if you get a temp unlock then flash the Unlock stock firmware on top that removes all of t mobile bloat including that Unlock app. Will the phone remain unlocked and have no way of re locking back because the unlock app would be missing?

if your on a monthly installment payment plan, and have not paid for the device in full they will not permanently unlock the device.

I wonder how? I figured it was a good idea. Tempory unlock then flash the unlocked firmware would erase the T-Mobile Unlock App. How would it relock itself once on the unlocked firmware?

I think based on this experience, this could be some great news for everyone. I believe you honestly. So in a nutshell TMO rules don't fully apply to the S8 and it's unlocking policy. Thanks for the responses.

No it doesn't come unlocked. You have to be a customer for 40 days, I think, to get a free unlock code.

You can see the requirements at that link. It looks like if you paid in full for the phone you can get the code anytime as long as your account is good.

but I want to used on AT&T for now and wait until T-mobile has LTE in NYC to see how it is. I have a prepaid phone # just to test out service and I didn't want to keep money on it. So I don,t mind paying for a unlock code
Hang on... so according to that link you can't get the phone sim unlocked until it's paid in full? What if you have the installment plan? You can't unlock your phone for 24 months unless you pay the balance? That seems a bit underhanded. What if I want to use my phone in the UK with a UK sim while I'm on holiday there?

Network unlock code?

So I got a Optimus G E-971, and it is currently on rogers. Now I know it may be a long shot but is there a way to unlock this phone without having to pay, I am strapped for cash for a week and need the phone ASAP, as I am starting a small business.
The device is "Unlocked, and Rooted" but I had gotten my hopes up when I did both of them thinking that it would unlock my phone to be used on a different carrier.
Nope. But 4$ is not that much

Unlock Unit could not help me and had to refund my payment. They required me to upload a video of proof that the code they provided didn't work. It seems the phone can only be unlocked with the Unlock app that comes pre-installed, at least for now. T-Mobile hasn't even been able to help me unlock it yet.
you do know that T-Mobile offers you x amount of days to unlock you phone right? (Device unlock) you should have an icon for it.
Rep told me today that they are only allowing unlock for business customers and long standing regular customers. (2+ year active account) If you don't qualify for this, she said the earliest people will be able to submit for an unlock is 20 days - after the buyers remorse period. Still doesn't make sense to me as that only locks me to the device and not the service.

I see what you are saying. I have been with them for 10 years so I see where I wouldn't have that issue. Making you wait the 20 days does not make sense seeing that you are tied to the phone anyways or maybe because people may try to flip the it for $? I am sure they have their reasons. I would wait if you are not in a big rush.
Seems like those of us who got the phone to immediately use on AT&T are at a painful time. I haven't been able to use my edge as my primary device because of the unlock struggle. Now I can open a business line with tmobile no problem and tmobile has wideband in my area, it's just that for the same $55 I'd pay them for unlimited everything, I get better coverage with cricket and get 20GB (which I'm grandfathered) which feels like unlimited because I use 10GB under super heavy usage.

Are you paying for the phone in full immediately, or paying monthly for it? There is no way to install a new ROM since there is no root or bootloader unlock yet.

Yes, because TMobile won't unlock the phone unless it's paid off.

There's an unlock app built right into the phone by T-Mobile. As long as it's paid off fully, the app "should" see that and permanently unlock it.
Also, you need to be on t-mobile for at least 40 days.
If he calls on and says he is traveling he could get it done in less than 40 days. I had my LG V20 unlocked with around 28 days on the T-Mobile network.
I'm the t mobile app, there is a option to unlock it temporarily for the trip. But he should be able to unlock it permanently

Yes this is true.. I "traveled" numerous times, and TMO Reps request the unlock, as long as the device is paid off. I had my unlock acceptance. Hence, I requested my unlock on Friday April 22nd, and got the acceptance on April 24th. In reality the 40 day rule has a loophole.

Good thing you went though T-Force, every other support channel seems totally clueless about unlocking T-Mobile phones bought directly through Samsung. They try to whitelist the IMEI in the Device Unlock app, but that won't work. They need to send a request to add the IMEI to their inventory system so it looks like it was sold by them.

In the United States, all 4G phones have to be sold as unlocked by law. However, there are a few stipulations like owing money on the phone (purchased on credit, monthly payments) and a 30-90 day waiting period some carriers adopt.

Me either so I just opted to contact OnePlus and request an unlock code. TMobile requires the phone to be on their network for at least 40 days and I'm good standing. Once you have that you can install the TMobile Device unlock app and see if you can proceed. If you can, TMobile will SIM unlock your phone.

I was able to get TMO to permanently unlock my 7T just a few days ago. I had originally contacted TMobile Help on Twitter four days after getting my new 7T. I told them I was an app and ROM developer and I needed this device unlocked so I could test my apps. At that time she wouldn't unlock it and for me because I had only had my new 7T for four days. She told me she would unlock it after 40 days and if I was in good standing with my account.
I actually waited 50 days and contacted TMobile Help again on Tuesday and I was able I was given the permanent unlock. It took a little wrangling and explaining to the new person who was helping me but I got it done without having my 7T paid off.
