How To Get Service Mode Working On The Unbranded unlocked U1 Firmware - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Is this possible? As soon as you put the Verizon SIM into the phone, it won't work anymore.

It should work once you SIM-unlock the phone and use an EU SIM (might also have to add/change the APN details)

If you can S-OFF the phone (should be able to use Sunshine) you could flash the EU ROM which will help but you'd still only get 3G/H at most as I believe the US phone use different bands for 4G/LTE

I'll be in Europe for a month. I was looking for an easy way to just swap SIM Cards when getting there / coming back. Speed isn't a necessity.
i used my att locked m8 on turkey for a week with Unlocked Bootloader, S-Off, sim unlocked.. just plugged the sim card after sim unlock the phone and used it without any issues
Which tutorial did you use? There's so many here, lol.
My bootloader is unlocked from HTC.

SM-G955U to SM-G955U1

I noticed after rooting that I went from firmware U to U1.
I guess my question is can I use normal Odin to flash SM-G955U1 firmware and have my phone unlocked so I can use my goole Fi sim card?

Flashing the firmware alone will not unlock the phone. You must have the carrier it is attached to unlock it first.

When you buy a Galaxy S8 Plus at a store in the usa like Best buy or other, you will get the model SM-G955U1 which is unlocked and it works will att and tmobile sim cards, i have that model and works fine with Tmobile.

You can use ODIN to flash U1 firmware for a bloatfree experience, but that WILL NOT carrier unlock your device. It has to be unlocked by the carrier. Either by calling them direct or paying for an unlock service. But if your phone is paid off, your carrier will unlock it for free.

That's a half truth. You CAN purchase the U1 model at Best Buy, but only if you specifically ask for it. They also sell the carrier versions for ATT, Verizon, and I believe Sprint.
The U1 can also be purchased directly from Samsung, as well as the carrier versions.
Yes the U1 works with ALL major US carriers. I.e. Verizon, Sprint, ATT, T-Mobile, US Cellular, and all their MVNOs.
You can try my post i would like to help you

I have the U1 and flashed U firmware, and was trying to go back to U1 and Odin is being a pita about it.
Any pointers on how to get my U1 phone that thinks it's a U now, to get back to being a U1? Get a binary error when I try. I have both firmware. U oddly says it's an XAS file (phone still shows being XAA, but U1 is an XAA file, both from sammob, and both are latest updates, Dec. 1st.).

If your getting a binary error either you are 1 of 3 things. Using older firmware than on the device. You need to flash the combination file then subsequent firmware. Like u1 combo u. Or u combo u1. Or wrong odin. 3.13b

How can I update my unlocked AT&T S9 (SM-G960U)?

Hi. I have an AT&T-branded unlocked S9 (SM-G960U) and I have not been receiving software updates. The date of the installed security patch is Nov. 1, 2018, and I'm still on Android 8.0. When I check for updates, it says that my phone is up-to-date. My current carrier is outside the USA. I have also tried updating via Smart Switch but it also says my phone is up-to-date.
Is there any way I could get the Android Pie update?
Thanks for the help!

When I check out the U1 firmwares, I see different variants listed (ATT, TMB, etc.). As you said, the U1 firmware is unbranded, so why are there carrier-specific variants?

in short, the U1 is a debloated version of stock without the carrier junk. The different iterations will have different modem files that are intended to work best with the respective markets they are built for, globally speaking. Samsung stopped making a separate version for the GSM carriers in the USA with the S8 which is why all the stock image files are now cross compatible. They technically always were, its just that theyre far more interchangable now due to this physical difference no longer existing

So do you mean that the different carrier versions of U1 firmware don't have carrier apps, but have files that make the phone more compatible with the carrier's network?
It seems as though AT&T can only send updates over their network, which I don't have access to because I'm outside the US. If I change my firmware to U1, would I then receive updates OTA in the future directly from Samsung?

they have very minimal bloatware, they might include carrier apps, but very few. They usually have carrier specific radio firmware to allow the phone to operate best on that specific network, yes.
i would flash one in the very near future myself, but im about to head to Mexico on vacation, so im a tad paranoid to do so. Ill do it when i get back tho. By the end of this month, ill be running a U1 firmware set

I flashed fo that reason and couldn't spot it. Seems like those unlocked versions also don't have them. I am curious if we flash the one sold in europe, if they have it, may appear. Doubt it would be that easy though.
I did check fastboot commands and they seem to be removed just like LG

Looks like it for now. Since the phone has come out, maybe we'll find a way since it may be the first samsung sd 865 in europe, and they allow them to unlock their bootloaders.
I dont know if I am keeping the device, seems a little buggy, touch issues, random stutters, and I was taking photos that don't save apparently.

I think the U is the career version and the u1 is the unlocked, or maybe flipped. They are super confusing as each carrier doesn't have a specific model, the same one assuming it is the U one. Judt different firmwares or userdata.

Flashed to U1 XAA. I asked around with people that purchased S20 FE unlocked. They confirmed it's G781U1UEU1ATIG for unlocked.
I'll test this out . At start up it didn't ask me to restart to config my sim, LOL.
So far I notice the unlocked firmware is less cluster, no lag. I was having problem with Samsung pay not loading on main screen.
Since I've T-mobile unlocked this phone. I'll keep it on U1 firmware.

Sprint SM-A505U Odin flash T-mobile SM-A505U1

I am thinking about buying a SM-A505U that is locked to Sprint network. Anyone know if I can just use ODIN to flash SM-A505U1 T-mobile firmware to get it to work on T-mobile? I am hearing from other people that the Sprint variant currently does not work on T-Mobile out of box and that they are paying for carrier unlock services to get it to work. While I know carrier unlock is an option, I also reads somewhere that it may be possible to flash the t-mobile firmware and that would essentially turn it into a t-mobile phone and lock it to t-mobile (Which I am Okay with). Where as a carrier unlock service would allow me to use any sim.
Anyone know if this is feasible? Is there an actual hardware difference between the SM-505U and SM-505U1? Or is it purely software?
