Google Now cards not working / PA 7.2.1 @ hammerhead - Paranoid Android Q&A

Hiya,
I've just flashed PA 7.2.1 and OpenGapps Pico on my hammerhead device. Everything works great, I love the PA ROM. However, I cannot get Google Now cards to work. I suppose there's something missing from Google ecosystem, I've installed Google Search app together with Google News & Weather app, still no luck tho.
Any suggestions, please?
Thx a lot!

Well, in many places we do recommend Open Gapps, but for me, it seems it´s missing some stuff and/or not working good for most devices. My first suggestion, long press the home button to Google window to show up and accept, after that it should work and appears.
If not as an a try, flash Beans Gapps, and be sure you are using our Launcher3 which already includes Google Now cards when you swipe from left to right. Also be sure that you´ve signed up.

[Q] Photosphere and Panorama not working

Hi guys and gals,
I've never tried to use photospheres or panorama mode on my phone before and decided to give it a whirl yesterday. It didn't work. It was just a gray screen with dots/rectangle telling me to move the circle into the bigger circle. I can move the circle and "gray dot world" around but that's it. My current rom is CM11 official nightlies (I update it every day or two). I've tried reflashing gapps (with the .forcegallery file in place), removing gapps, using the 4.4.4 micro module gapp, the aroma installer for photosphere fix, some other xda thread's JB photosphere zip, reflashing to stock, reflashing to other ROMs, downloading google camera from the play store, and doing all of the previous gapp stuff on all of those ROMs. I'm completely at a loss for what to do next. Any ideas? Photosphere and panorama are the only things wrong with the stock camera and everything else is fine. It isn't a big deal but would be nice to get it working!

Find and install the latest "Banks" GAPPS package. When you DL google cam from the market it doesn't install as system and I think that's the problem.
Ok, just did a search and realized that Banks has stopped making GApps packages but explains a bit in the thread why and gives a pointer. He also says that the zips will be available still for awhile.

When I used his packages I always had photosphere working.

Thanks but unfortunately that hasn't been working. I've been using the 8-11 standard release (and also the gallery/old camera micromodule when that inevitably fails to fix it).

You have tried Banks GApps and not PA GApps? Or both?
It very well could be a kernel issue. I am not sure because it has been awhile since I tried CM, but have you tried a different kernel?
Solid kernel or f93 kernel should work with gproj CM11 (that's the official sources used).
It should work on any GEE rom as well but the camera quality is a kind of poor although there is a fix in progress for that.
I would suggest a clean flash, Banks GApps that include the Google camera (standard) and nothing extra as far as camera/gallery and then see what happens.

Tried both unfortunately. Thank you for the kernel idea, I hadn't thought of that. I think I will keep an eye out and wait for them to fix the camera quality first because right now my camera is perfect other than the gimicky photosphere thing I wanted to try. I'll try and remember to update this thread to provide a fix when I find it.

Say 'OK Google' any time greyed out [8.1 Custom ROM]

So I flashed both AICP and ABC January 8.1 ROMs today (one at a time) using 2 different unofficial OpenGApps packages. After setting up the ROMs (re-install backup from the cloud option), I noticed that I was unable to activate the Say 'OK Google' any time in the Google Now app. When I opened the section in settings<voice the switch quickly moves to the off (left). Underneath it says that this is unavailable in my language (UK English - hence the grey not gray in the heading btw!).
I tried many many solutions from Google, clearing data etc but nothing worked. I have since reinstalled stock January 8.1 firmware and it works fine. I re-installed from backup in the cloud option like before.
What is going on? Has this happened to anyone else? Can you offer a solution?
[EDIT] - I tried a different third GApps package (unofficial BeansGApps). Problem solved.
Hi am2012
I have exactly the same problem. I've tried everything (except changing the gapps).
Which BeansGApps have you installed?
I only found this file to download (BeansGapps-NoGAssistant_arm64-8.1.x-unofficial-December.zip), but "NoGAssistant" is strange...
Could you post the link from you downloaded ???
Thanks...
EDIT - Thanks a lot am2012. It's finally solved!!! I intalled the BeansGapps file ( BeansGappsMini-arm64-8.x.x-unofficial-Feb2018.zip ) from the AndroidHostFile site.

Question "Ok google" not working on custom roms

As posted in other thread, i'm on latest crDroid (7.9) with Flamegapps full.
Pretty much everything working, except voice match "hey/ok google", whose activation is grayed out in google settings ("the function is not available on your device").
Searching the web, it seems that's a common problem for Android 11 custom roms, related to some file (hotword blobs) missing in the rom, device specific.
See this thread for example:
New Hotword blobs on Android 11 · Issue #19 · ShivamKumarJha/android_tools
Hotword functionality requires the following files on Android 11 system_ext/etc/permissions/com.android.hotwordenrollment.common.util.xml system_ext/framework/com.android.hotwordenrollment.common.u...
github.com
I'm no dev, so i don't really understand this stuff...but many people have my same problem here and on Telegram (the others simply doesn't use voice match, i guess), so i think it is good thing to report out this thing to developers, if this is the problem
thank you
I'm leaving this reply in case someone needs it in the future.
The solution is making Google a system app, you can use a magisk module called systemize.
This is the most recent version I found: https://github.com/xeddmc/terminal_systemizer

Thank you very much for your replay.
That was the issue, and yours is a good solution.
For me, the issue has been solved with the next Flamegapps release, some time later.
i confirm on android 13 crdroid rom app 2023, nikgapps, Google must be installed as system app to google assistant working ( "and not be grayed out in google settings)

Search in settings not working

Hello,
Just installed LineageOS 18.1 (scorpio) + Google apps and noticed that the search in settings doesn't work at all. I can type words in there, but they are never found. Any clues?
TIA
Works fine here, LOS18 on X00TD, YTX703L and s5neolte without GApps.
To find the culprit: Did you try copy-paste (instead of typing)? Re-install? Or get rid of Google, just try vanilla LOS (even though that worked with GApps for me some weeks ago for S5Neo).
edit: Perhaps some older version would work?

Hello,
I typed the words in. not copy/paste. Tried with boath Google keyboard and swiftkey. Also tried to clear Settings app data. None worked. I don't want to downgrade because I need Android 11.

Sure but just to rule that out... Perhaps just another previous nightly would do it?
