No devs for the mighty Mi6? - Xiaomi Mi 6 Questions & Answers

Seems ta be very low interest in the Mi6 from developers. Will it change or will the Mi6 be forgotten soon?

probably because lack of kernel source + online only phone sold in asian markets

There is already LineageOS... and just because there are no other roms, it does not mean there arent devs for this phone!
It does not make any sence to work on LineageOS based roms if LineageOS is not stable because the other roms will have even more issues!
The lack of kernel sources is a bit pita, but we have to wait for xiaomi here...

Cynogenmod or slimkat

Any chance of having cynogenmod or slimkat on x or xl.
I want my next phone to be supported by those.
Thanks

There was news some time ago that Abhisek Devkota has a device and probably working on it. Need to wait a bit more. Device is not on the market yet, well it is starting to be sold so we need to wait. Although I think that even though specs are not super this phone will be very interesting option if equipped with CM11.

Are the companies who use the AOSP as 'base' for their ROMs committed to realease the sources?

We could write an Email.. Maybe they will tell us when they are going to release it. I don't know the release date of the the Nokia Xs, but I think they are going to push the sources a few days after the phone got released. Samsung and all the other companies are doing it the same way. Before I bought a N5, I have had an Ace II and we never got a full source code. Functions like OMX were very hard to get working without these sources. So we can just hope that they are dev-friendly and release a complete kernel source.

I would advise neither, coming from a device that uses a similar SoC. you don't have full hardware acceleration on newer android versions, and the gpu is really not all that good..
I would advise staying clear of the Nokia X

Yes, it is true, on my huawei y300 (same cpu and gpu) on kitkat there is not full HWA, ui is laggy and play games is very bad, this because qualcomm does not release adreno 200 drivers for android 4.3-4.4... hope that the cm team can do something

err, it's because we don't support 4 layer composition. nothing to do with the adreno blobs
Kitkat not possible on Nokia X then?

Cm news
"During our trip to MWC at the end of February we were able to secure an X from the Nokia team. There has been a substantial interest in this device from the community. While we won’t commit to releasing a proper ‘release’ (the hardware is more than a bit lacking) we have sent our X to dhacker29 to get up a source tree for the community. Just because CM won’t release a build doesn’t mean we can’t help other ROMs in the process. Nokia, to their credit, has already provided kernel source upon request and the bootloader is unlocked on this device – plenty of fun for the community to be had"
dhacker 29 is a very good developer hy is mantling the official cm for moto g

LineageOS for galaxy note 5??

Hi, do you know if there is a version or there will be a version for this smartphone? I only see cm13 and it is June 2016.
First rule of Lineage is we do not as for etas
I understand then that for exynos you will not make rom? I say it to take it into account for upcoming smartphone
Unless LineageOS is going to run an all TouchWiz framework (More unlikely than a shark attacking on land), then I'd guess that it will have the exact same official support for all the exact same officially supported devices, long story short the last Note device with official support was pre-Note3 if my memory is correct. & any Exynos CM roms are half-cocked and never really expected to get past a User Build.....
Thanks

Anytime! I just wish we had a better chance than we do for custom builds but Samsung really doesn't care about us only consumers.

If the Ressurection Remix for Mi6 is preparing?

I found the website of downloading rr rom of mi 6 has been set. If that mean the rr rom is preparing?
https://sourceforge.net/projects/resurrectionremix/files/sagit/
by the way, why the discussion of mi6 is so few, compared with redmi note3's? if it's because xiaomi didn't sold mi6 to foreign?
I'm sorry for my poor English.

Yes, partly. I think that's the cause.
I didn't quite follow Xiaomi when Mi5 was launched, maybe someone can make a comparison?

That is the issue indeed. Usually devices that hasnt been released outside China will almost impossible to have the kernel source to be released.
Mi5 is released globally eventually and also got their kernel source released few months after (september 2016 if I am not mistaken)
It's now being sold in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Russia. Maybe the sources will be released sooner than Mi 5?
hope it won't take to long.. I'm sick of miui not even basic android features...

General Source code for Mi Pad 5 released!

Good morning!
Seems like the source code of Pad 5 kernel is released, good news!
Lets see developers what gonna do.
GitHub - MiCode/Xiaomi_Kernel_OpenSource at nabu-r-oss
Xiaomi Mobile Phone Kernel OpenSource. Contribute to MiCode/Xiaomi_Kernel_OpenSource development by creating an account on GitHub.

That are not news. The kernel sources have been released last year. Short after the Pads Release. So far there are no working custom roms or recoveries. It looks like that no experienced ROM Dev owns a Nabu.
Tests by unexperienced rom builders:
Broken TWRP: https://github.com/bm0x/twrp_device_xiaomi_nabu
Broken LOS Tree: https://github.com/faberto/android_device_xiaomi_nabu
Ohh... I didn't know, that's so sad...
Thanks for the information!
I bought this tablet because it's nice (value-for-money-wise), but I also hoped there would be some dev support to give it awesome roms. That's definitely the case for the Mi Pad 4. Any reason why this one is not that popular? Or is it still too soon?

Maybe because it has not been released in India yet.
im just wondering,
this pad is excellent.
what exactly do you expect to be added if port rom is developed?
Netflix HD is not working for me (widevine problems on a global stock firmware, I don't understand why), and after some usage, I prefer the stock android / pixel experience UI more than MIUI

Question Custom firmware

Hello. Can I hope for some custom roms for this device later? I really enjoy custom roms but I don't like buy xiaomi phones again and found this phone in really good price! example redmi note 12 pro has same proccesor but it's more expensive and miui has some limitations among features.
Can I hope for custom rom or AT LEAST is samsung sharing kernel source of it's phones and is it possible to make one myself later after learning? I have some plans to learn android developement

You can learn to develop your own ROM.
Everything shared here on XDA is essentially a hobby. Developers work for free, and often focus most of their time and effort on devices they already have. The best way to get something ported to your particular device is to learn to do it yourself.
