Community development strength - LG K7 Real Life Review

Other than TWRP and a Kernal, which I am very grateful for, there doesn't seem to be many developers interested in making great things for this phone.

Testing/Debugging tools

I have recently tried to get involved with the testing of some of the froyo roms out there (namely DeFrost) and i can say that with the input of many many people and the hard work of the developers progress has been swift.
my concern is the feedback is sometimes fairly subjective, with everyone using different tools to test with or in most cases nothing more than an observation; "i feel this is slower than ver2.x"
People/the community if you like, will always have their own opinions and these are no doubt important issues the developers will want to address.
However I would like to see testing become more standardised as i believe this can only lead to increased accuracy of feedback and so greater and maybe more focused development.
Firstly i would like to start a discussion on the type of tools/apps available for testing purposes, and compile a definitive list of such apps.
And secondly develop a method of testing, and feedback.
Help from the community, testers and developers would be greatly appreciated.
I will start us off.
im currently using:-
Linpack for android and Quadrant for benchmarking (nomaly run them 10 times for an average score)
JuicePlotter for battery drain
System Monitor by skwid for CPU and RAM usage
Im looking for replacements for JuicePlotter as it doesn't give enough detail
and iv just started using System Monitor but first impressions are not great.

Rating System

Hey mods, I was thinking of an idea, where on each ROM there is a graph depicting scores of speed, battery life, general usability etc. These scores could be determined from votes by the community. I think it would help the community out and also give the ROM a more pro look.
Wouldn´t it be cool if there´s an app going to be released, some sort of juiceplotter, installed on the clean rom, which then has to be kept running for an hour or something, for battery use checking, so the scores would be objective?
The rest is just a specsheet.
Even subjective assessment of various roms performance and battery life could be useful provided a large enough sample that should eliminate outliers for the most part.
Usability is too subjective. You either like Sense or you don't care for it.
Setcpu, havs, 720p support etc are important to some people and not others.
I world support some spreadsheet that would allow to get a quick overview of a rom, as compared to others, without having to read all the forums. Perhaps, this could be as simple as a table in a sticky post in this forum.

Samsung ROM vs. Stock Kit Kat vs. CM11

Just switched from Nexus4 to Galaxy S4, being able to add extended battery and SD card were the deciding factors over Nexus5.
Trying to decide which ROM I should go with. Considering Stock Kit Kat or CM11, or staying with Default provided by Samsung.
I'm familiar with the feature differences between the 3 ROMs.
Which of the 3 currently offers best overall experience/performance, stability & battery life.
Thanks!

I personally run Gummy ROM at the moment. It is cm11 with added features. I love the stock kit kat experience with a few added features so that's why I chose gummy. As far as stock touchwiz we have a love hate relationship. I love the stock camera because nothing compares to its features and clarity but unfortunately it is on available on stock ROM. Also I love the watch on app that uses IR to control TV and cable. Their are alternative apps to use IR for kit kat but none compare to watch on. But besides those two features I hate the slowness, ui colors, DPI, and just about everything else about touchwiz. If only we could have those two featured on kit kat ROMs. Any how I would suggest trying all options for yourself and deciding. It really boils down to personal preference and what you use your phone for most.

Sigh....threads like this are not permitted on XDA. This is wa standard 'rom comparison' thread and they are not allowed at all.
The reason is because there is no answer to which one is better or have a better experience or battery life.
All of those questions depend on you and your use and your taste. The rom I love the most that gives the best battery life for the way I use the phone may be the worst possible combination for you.
The ONLY way to decide what the best rom for YOU is is to try them out and test a couple and get an idea of what is best FOR YOU.

Hey skipjacks, to be fair the user only has 6 posts so he is obviously new to the community here. I am a long time member here and am aware of the avoidance of threads such as these but it is kind of an unspoken rule. As a new user assuming he or she read the forum rules this is not listed any where there. Maybe a mod can see this and suggest adding it to the rules as I agree these threads never end well but let's not beat the person up lol.

Who's beating anyone up?
I said these threads aren't allowed. Then politely explained why.
If you're coming from a nexus 4 go with GPE Roms . Add xposed framework and gravity box module and you'll never look back. Fast, snappy, stable and as close to AOSP as it'll get. You can even have your navigation bar to save those hardware keys.
For the reasons mentioned above, this thread is closed.
Users need to read and make their own determinations as to what it is they desire.

Reason I bought this to begin with. Its a great device but even I'll admit OnePlus made a few mistakes with Oxygen.
The amount of ROMs and tweaks for this thing is insane. The ease of development is crazy, I think the hardware more than holds its own, we have one of the best kernels there I'd (Boeffla), and a rock solid user base... What more could you ask for??? ...except maybe a removable battery... Or modules like the G5. But you don't get that for $250 now do you
Too many ROMs where to choose from :silly:
Preety poor development. All ROM`s look the same.
Amazing work we have a great team of Developers

Pfff seriously?
If we compare the dev strenght to the device distribution, I thing we have a stratospheric ratio here !!

so why don't you step up and do something different to the community?
I loved my X even without changing the ROM, but after OnePlus couldn't fix the camera I said f*ck it. I started to mess around with ROMs and boy it made this device so much better. I love it and will keep it as long as it lasts
Many major ROMs are here for Onyx. But the thing is they all are stock based ROMs. And almost every ROMs in future will be having stock look. But there are still many users want customized ROMs. There should be an option like stock-based and not-stock-based ROMs. Giving only one option like only stock-based ROMs is a major drawback in the community.
Developers also have to give their users much different ROM than a stock based. Stock look is cool and gorgeous. But we have only stock look.
I'm also happy with the Vanilla desing. For me the Android system is nothing more then the settings app.
I relay hope for a Candy Rom. On the Op5 You hearing me @CertifiedBlyndGuy =D
But every rom im on I miss the Lineage clock App.
Shake to snooze.. These awesome ****ers.

Candy will come to the 5. Helping a friend with it. As for the X, it'll be back soon. Gotta focus on PA one other cool thing first that I think will shock the community

Builds(?) ROMS, features

Hello, I have been researching this phone for the last couple of hours (considering a purchase) and had some general questions about rooting, ROMS, etc. I did search before posting so please forgive me if this is redundant:
I am seeing versions (builds?) of this phone around the internet labeled p1a41, p1c58 and p1c72. As with any android phone I have owned, I want to at least root it, and would like to try some custom ROMs. With that in mind, are there any special considerations I need to take into account when looking at these different builds?
What levels of stability can I expect between the stock ROMs vs factory image based custom ROMs and CM/AOSP based ROMs? I would likely prefer to go the CM/AOSP based route, but not if the phone isn't daily driver worthy and/or sucks up massive amounts of battery, although I understand this phone has excellent battery life.
As compared in #2, are there any major features missing in CM/AOSP ROMs? I am not all that concerned with getting the latest and greatest, and I do want things like the camera (with hdr, etc), all radios and the fingerprint reader to function...
And of course, any ROM recommendations?
I have a moderate amount of experience rooting and flashing other phones...
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your reply.
