Screen on time - Moto E4 Plus Real Life Review

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Moto E4 Plus before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

I've just got this phone and I'm getting screen-on time of about 7 hours, which is good. I'm getting about 2.5 days on one charge with moderate use.

So far, over 3 days per charge with over 10 hours SOT.
So far, this is the longest lasting phone I've ever used and the best for the price I've paid.

When I put the phone on the charge at night I still had 56% battery left. When I checked SoT it was just about to hit six hours. That's amazing!

I'm testing a used e4 Plus for a friend and I was surfing lots of smut for an hour yesterday in airplane mode, not signed into Google. I only had 3 apps on the battery stats which were Android system, chrome and screen.
After the hour of SOT, this e4 was only down to 95% battery.
Just goes to show its an exceptional battery or Google services and getting a 4G signal are huge drains in normal usage.

Frankly, I'm amazed with this device. I've had no lag, nothing negative to say about this device, and I got it for $159.99. I got 4 days of day-to-day use out of my first charge. I installed Kodi with an IPTV Live TV app, works perfect. I use Mint (Sim) Wireless - a MVNO of T-Mobile and I bought their annual plan for an average of $15 a month and I now am able to access and use T-Mobile's Band 12 in places I never had cellular coverage before. To look at it, you wouldn't know it from a more expensive Motorola Z or G device, but there is, of course; but with the exception of Kodi, I use it for the usual stuff. I'm really impressed at this inexpensive device.

Yeah thats right

Just got this phone. Charged to 100% and did a little test. Left the screen on a pixel fixer YouTube video till death. I got 17 hours and 41 minutes of SOT. Amazing. Also ran 7 benchmarks, 2 stress tests, and used phone for Facebook and wifi calls during that time. If I put the phone down, YouTube was playing. Maybe 5 min screen off time total.

Moto E4 Plus' 5000MAh battery works insanely! It almost runs 1.5 days for about 85% charge!

Although I am getting a solid 12 hours SOT and 2 days use out of my new E4plus, I am a bit concerned. After 7 full cycles of charging to 100 and drain to 0, Accubattery shows the battery to be at only 84% Battery health. Which is 4200mah and not the advertised 5000. I can understand a small shortage in mAh, but that's an 800mah difference. I recommend you all run at least 5 full cycles with Accubattery and report your findings.

Yes I have Qualcomm.

I'm using Qualcomm version (owens) and get about 3 days of light to medium usage

That's great news. Please provide the screenshots showing battery health report in Accubattery after at least 3 or 4 cycles. Thanks in advance.

I decided to try this app, and I only had one cycle, but mine is still pretty close to new. I've had the phone since it came out last year. I'll post again after a couple of cycles if it changes anything major.

Yeah half a cycle won't be enough to get any solid info. At least 3 full cycles from 100 to 0 should do it. As you can see the battery is only 4300 mAh at best.

After five cycles it's gone up a bit. It's a bit strange that it shows different amounts on each tab, but either way I'm happy with the charge it holds. Like I said I have over 170 charges on it, and it's still at 96% health. Not bad at all.

Ummm, that's 5 sessions at only 264% ? That means on average you only let the phone drop to
52.8% before plugging back in. So in reality it's only two and a half cycles with repeated interruptions. Doubt that's very accurate results.
The history tab should show if you're really completing cycles.

Holy bad battery life Batman!

I'm on Stock 2.2 US and Battery Life is HORRENDOUS. I have the Moto Charge app that displays actual battery in the status bar. I charged to 100%, wiped battery stats, turned it on and after 6 minutes of no use, I'm at 97%. What am I missing here?
Are there any apps constantly running in the background?
Do you have bluetooth/wi-fi/gps switched on all the time?
Are you using your phone somewhere that's unusually hot, cold or humid?

No, no, no, no, no
How long have you had it?
Has the battery always been this bad?
Has it only started recently? Is there some sort of cause, something that happened that has brought about this poor performance?
I just got the phone from a friend but I do not believe it to be an issue directly related to this specific handset.
Having GPS "on" all the time will not drain your battery as it is only being made "available" when an app needs it (mine is always checked and has zero effect on the battery until actually used). Did you do a factory reset after installing 2.2? On the Moto forum many issues are resolved with a reset.

Lithium-ion batteries have a big drop off at the start of the discharge profile.
They will then maintain a fairly steady state between about 80% - 40%.
A 3% change, therefore, from 100 to 97 is not equivalent to a 3% change from 80% to 77%.
I'm pretty certain it is specific to your handset - most Defys have very good battery life.
Here's my handset:

At that rate, it should last ~5 days.
There are always something running in the background. Install a cpu monitoring application and see if the cpu is running wild.
In my case, 1% power lasts for 3~5 minutes usage (game, movie, surfing etc), or 2 hours standby (wifi off), or 1 hour standby (wifi on).
I checked Battery Use, there is nothing crazy. I've also checked Battery History and nothing is using the CPU or keeping it awake. I actually wiped the phone last night, didn't have a sim card in it and left it on over night and it lost 14% in 7 hours. It shouldn't have even lost 2% given that it wasn't connected to a cell tower. I have wiped it twice.

I am of a differing opinion.. I think these android devices have terrible battery life.
That being said, invest in a few of the cheap Hong Kong 1800mAH batteries on ebay.
I had a good experience ordering from "farmerseller". Curiously, I ordered 1500mAH batteries but received 1800 mAH batteries..... it took a while to arrive, but they work great and the charger is nicely designed.

Compared to what?
What's your frame of reference?
I'm not aware of any other smartphone with specs similar-to or better-than the Defy's that gets anywhere near the battery performance my phone does.
Everyone I know with Galaxy Ss or Desires charges basically every day, one friend with an iPhone4 can get a couple of days out of it but most are only a day, friends with Blackberrys get a couple of days or so.
I regularly surpass 3 days of what I would call normal usage - web browsing, texting, a bit of gaming and the odd call here and there.
Are there any ROMs known to get better battery life? On both my N1 and NS, certain ROMs performed LIGHTYEARS better than other ROMs in the battery department. This is a well known fact that Android is inconsistent on battery life.
So I wiped, re-wiped, flash the beach update.zip, wiped, re-wiped and I'm not confident the wipe is working. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988036
Regardless, I also find it odd that my battery was at 85% and, after the flash/wipe, it charged to full in <10 minutes.
Give it a few days of usage and see the results afterward. Basically it needs some cycles to re-create the battery stats after wiping.
You can also install Powertutor to check what apps are "consuming" the battery.
From my experience: with light usage I made once 3 days but normally 1-2 days is all I get (3g, some talks, 30 min browsing, some ebook reading). It was the same with my past 2 Android phones and some 4 Win Mobile phones...
When you are in a really tight spot do the usual tricks: 2g only, disable APN, don't play too much with the phone. You will probably get 3-4 days in one charge
I updated to 2.2.1 also, and battery life went right down the tubes. I lived with it for two days, and then did a factory reset, and now I have better battery life than with 2.1. I really didn't want to factory reset because of all the fine tuning I did, and not to mention re-downloading all the apps and setting them back up, but I must say it was worth it. After 13 hours I'm at 30%, and that is with heavy use. I started at 100% and in 10 hours without using it much at all, it only dropped 10%, so 1% an hour I can live with. Once I started playing game it went fast, but that is to be expected.
Ahhh!!!!! You guys are killing me from laughter. Don't take this the wrong way....but read more items on these forums...they are a welath of information. First off.... battery stats are wiped. It will take a few days of charging/discharging for the phone to get an accurate idea of actual use. It needs a baseline created. Don't worry yet. It can take up to a week to get really good stats. As for the horrible life on 2.2....did you wipe battery stats before flashing? If not thats your problem. You have to wipe the stats when you go to 2.2. Different profiles and usage. It's mentioned in a number of the roms. With steady hard usage I'm averaging about 2 days between charging. On standby with no use the best I have gotten so far is 6 days. RTFM.... Hope this helps out.

I have the H860N (dual sim) on build v10c. Take note I am only using SIM1 as the second slot is used by my 64GB microSD (it's a hybrid slot).
1st test
Usage:
WiFi only
2G Mobile network only
A lot of YouTube watching, some photo shooting, social networking in Facebook/Twitter/Instagram, some casual gaming (One More Dash, Stacks, Piano Tiles 2, etc.) and a lot of browsing as well.

2nd test
Usage:
WiFi and Data (4G) - 50/50
A lot of social networking during data usage. A bit of listening to music, photo shooting, web browsing and YouTube streaming during WiFi usage. Some casual games as well.
Power saver triggered on 15%
My rating: 4/5 - Need bigger battery module
Can you go into detail?
1 week with g5 ordered from Clove...unlocked, stock rooted, with Xposedv83
Very little modification, using greenify and amplify

There is LG's official bootloader unlock program for the unbranded EU H850.once u do that(only for h850) there is TWRP built for it too
This was originally posted by me in the battery life thread:
Bit over a week with the phone.
H850 stock rooted v10c. Xposed v83
Used greenify and amplify;disabled and removed some stock apps, AOD and daydream off.
Let phone top up for 1hr after reaching 100%full charge
Best battery life I've had on a phone with no kernel manipulation yet...
I reached 7hrs SOT with like 5hrs YouTube and 20hrs on battery...but this was the 2nd day and I thought it was a fluke.this last cycle was post worthy these pictures were taken evening of 5/4 after almost 36hrs on battery. I've gamed, browsed, used camera, streamed HD video and been on mobile data for most of it...that's balanced but heavy use.
My only gripe is that Wi-Fi does seem to drain me more than mobile data(no tests yet to back that up) still coming from g3 this is incredible!
Who cares if the s7 gets better battery life this has a smaller battery that does better than other's in the g-series, and it's replaceable(unlike comparable devices) giving the device more longevity.
This battery life reminds me of my g2.

what apps did you disable/remove i struggle to get 3 hours screen on time and this phone is starting to really annoy me thanks in advance
Well, compared to the Galaxy S7 i own, the SOT honestly sucks. I barely get more then 3,5 hours with Medium usage. Removed most of the bloadware, disabled background data usage on most Apps and still i can't see alot improvement.
The most I ever got was 6 hours and 30 mins with 19 percent left. No Wi-Fi with LTE on, Bluetooth off and the screen no more than 35%brightness . I used to have the note 4 att version and only got 4.5 with every single bloat app disable. I have cm brower ,cm launcher no facebook just messanger and Google app running. I'm sure you guys won't believe it but I really get amazing battery life with this phone. I'm at 41 % with 3 hours and 30 mins and 11 hours 20 mins since I lasted plug it. I have the t mobile version and here are the apps I have disable.
Here are some screenshots
I really can't complaint with a mix of Wifi and LTE. It's not as insane as my S7 exynos but it last me through the day and I have the spare battery. I have not charged my phone in a couple of days now. Also standby time is the best I have ever seen on a smartphone.
Sent from my LG-H860 using Tapatalk
WTH, the max SOT i manage to get is like 2hrs!
Currently battery at 32% after taking off charge 11 hrs ago.. SOT is 1hr 11m
Android OS is showing as using 19% battery.
I think it's time for a factory reset...
I think that will be my next purchase
3 hrs.

Sorry wrong thread, post removed.
Some say that its 6 hours, some say its 3. Thats a huge gap and i dont know who to believe, but 3 hours seems more legit considering that battery size.

Wait till you put a sim in it. I get approx 4.5 hours SOT on average. I'll put up a screen shot soon as I'm back in the UK. Currently on WiFi only, to avoid roaming charges.

The battery is not that good for my experience... About 30 min using Spotify uses about 7% of battery, when regularly it doesn't took that much on my other phone that I own (Samsung J7) I know the battery is bigger for comparison, but also I've tested on a Nexus 5, and the battery have a better management on other devices than this one, when you start to use the phone on regular apps (FB, TW, IG, WA, TG, SC, etc.) you will notice a clear drain on your battery, everything is going down, in about 15 - 20 min of continuous usage it will drain about 10% - 15% of your battery, for my previous experiences on other devices this is not even close, especially when is a brand new phone (2 days old).
IOT, the standby battery usage is pretty awesome.
P.S. I will post some screenshots later.
my experience is, like every other phone, daily charging is necessary. however I dont notice any more drain than any other phone ive had in the past.
I get a full solid day on my battery, and i use it heavily every day.
I havent installed alot of apps(which some tend to kill your battery quicker).
id give it a high rating.

5in Pixel, T-mobile in S Florida, good reception. Not a heavy app or social media user but have never had to worry about getting through the day. I usually have about 40% when I get home from work (heavy call and text use) and I see the warning to charge right before I plug it in for the night. Default brightness, wifi, bt, gps always on. Android auto destroys the battery because it loves to keep the screen on.
If pixel cost drops in india
I will buy it
Battery is mediocre at best. They should of went with a 3000mah.
Unfortunately I agree its mediocre at best. I miss my Sony Z3C which would last 2 days with the same usage as my Pixel. Pixel at 34% coming off charger 8 hr 30 minutes ago. Although 3 hr 30 minute screen on time,46 minutes on phone, Google app used for 2 h 17min and 6% yikes.
compared to the galaxy s6 i had before it is amazing. and charges fast fast fast

Agreed, exact same situation and experience (concurrent Z3C user), except I'm probably getting even less screen time with the Pixel than you. These oversized "flagship" phones seriously need a boost in the battery department.
Battery is not very good i am a power user at 100 percent i start my day at 6 am at the battery dies by 3 pm. i am rocking Android o beta now
I happy with quick charge hope it can get me throw a full day on the stable android o version.

A lot have their phones now. Let's see your battery experience, please
Please state whether you have the exynos or snapdragon.
Thanks
I have to say, the battery has been pretty solid on my first full day of use (I only had a half day's use yesterday). 10 hours of talk time coupled with 4 hours of screen time, and getting 15 hours of battery is pretty good. I can't complain at all.
Note:
-Snapdragon
-WQHD selected
-Adaptive Power saving on
-I have wifi set to turn on and off automatically
-Bluetooth on (and in use the majority of the day)
-Link with Windows on
-Live wallpaper
-AOD on
-2 email accounts on push
-Screen brightness on auto
Let's have some more please
Just finished the learning stage so will be reporting my experience within a day or so.
Ok after the weekend it settled. I had bad battery life initially because I suspect syncing almost 8 thousand photos to the cloud took a hit. Fully charged and wifi on, for 3.5hrs, I lost 4%. That is amazing from my Note 9 losing 30% while sleeping. I mean no apps were used, idk how that happened lol.

Same here, it finally settled for me too. Yesterday I was on it all day. Taking pictures, Facebooking, watching YouTube, mostly surfing the Internet. It hit 0% and shut down with 9 hours and 50 minutes of screen on time. Now I was on WiFi 99.9% of that time, but still. I'm happy with that performance.

Forgot to mention, I have the N975U1
Today has been mostly wifi. I don't live in a 5G area but travel for a living, so I got the 5G version. Battery life is a little less without wifi, but not massively worse.

Reporting my results. Primarily on wifi.
Earlier this evening I threw it on the charger while I watched a movie. But before I did, I checked screen time. 4 hrs 14 mins with 65% battery left. That was mostly internet browsing, some YouTube, and some Facebook. All on WiFi. It seems the battery just gets better and better.
And by the way, off topic, I'm not sure what you all think of the haptic feedback of the N10+, but mine is just very nice and crisp. I turned up intensity just a notch in settings, but it just makes typing on this thing so nice.

I agree... Note 10+..is like... So fun to use... Well worth the update from note 9!
I lose about 2% overnight if I take it off the charger at 100% before bed. Big improvement over the 8-10% lost on my Note9. I'll post screen shots later as I get the battery down to a much lower percentage. I've had it since the 21st.... I'm highly impressed with the battery life. I'm on 85% and feel no need to charge before I go or today.

I see everyone is getting great results on WiFi. What about 4g/5g experiences?

A normal day usage..100% charged before leaving for work. Youtube, twitter, Amazon music used while travelling. I would say out of SOT of 4hrs, around 2.5 hrs would be on LTE. as an estimate SOT on only LTE should be in between 5-6hr range depending on your usage. On WiFi it will be 8-9hrs. I don't play games so for gamers SOT will be less ofcourse.
Think it's safe to say I might have a defective battery with my phone. It's an at&t branded phone. After I recharged it last night I took it off the charger and just let it sit by my bed I woke up this morning and I lost almost 11% in just standby...

Question Battery life thread

My battery life is not great. Became worse after rooting. Better than my 4XL, but not getting "all day plus" battery life.
What are others experiencing?

I'm absolutely blown away. Every morning I have a routine where I go outside and have my coffee and chain smoke a few darts, read the news, look at memes and such and typically I'm using it about an hour and on my S21+ or Z Fold 3 I'd always be down to 93 or 94%. Today was no different and I was still at 100 after doing so. I then went to work and used Android auto so it stayed full until about 830 am when I took it off the charger. It's 745 pm and I'm at 80% with just a bit over 4 hrs sot. Didn't tweak any settings whatsoever to try and save battery.

Often but not always poor battery is dependant on what apps you have that are running in the BG or sending push notifications, etc. Some games like to do that and just destroy battery life. Facebook likes to kill battery that's for sure. That's really the only social media site I use regularly. I likely won't have many games on this. I'll jus my fold for games

Yep everything on. The only setting I turned off was having wifi scanning. I like to enjoy and utilize all the features for the most part

Twitter is my only social media and no games. Time for BBS.
7h40 of SOT in 14 hours. Mostly wifi. No games, but messaging web and vidéo.
I was hoping better...
Also, with official 30w charger it did not reach 50% but 43 from 5% left.

Subjectively, battery life seems to be pretty cool. Nothing seems to drain particularly quickly and I've only had to charge a couple of times since Tuesday. Features such as lift to wake are all on. The only one that isn't is always on display as I never find that very useful when lift to wake is active.
Battery is absolutely fine for me. I've always charged my phone's at night anyway so as long as it lasts all day with my usage its good. It would last about a day and half if i wasn't charging each night. Screen on time has been between 5-7 hours with battery left of at least 40% each evening. I've turned off AOD this morning to see if that makes much difference in the next couple days as well.
Finally a positive thread hopefully with real experiences and no trolls.

Wow how can it differ so much from other people's experiences.. Something is definitely wrong or off. Maybe 5g?
I don't own this device but would be interesting to test out battery life after trimming most of the Google spyware/scam processes, GAPPs completely replaced and extreme overall de-bloating/trimmed setup for max batt. I'm guessing the results may be quite impressive...

Definitely. I feel Google now, aod, constant listening for background music and being alert for "Hey Google" increases consumption big time
Mine is getting better and better every day. Like everyone should know, it takes a few cycles. I already accepted the fact that it will not be as good as my P5.
