The display is definitely better than what weve had on the previous OnePlus phones. I did find the color saturation a bit weird coming from the LCD of the OnePlus One to the OAMOLED of the OP3, but it's a pretty beautiful display to look at.
I haven't been able to compare with another AMOLED screen, but compared to my LG G3 at full brightness, the OnePlus 3 screen colours doesn't seem as vibrant as an AMOLED screen should be. One other thing is that I've been so used to QHD on the G3, I can really notice the drop back to HD. Nonetheless, the OnePlus 3 is bang for buck no matter which way you look at it.
I just have one word. Gorgeous.
The display is sharp enough, bright enough and the color saturation is good. And definetly better than previous OP screens

You notice because it has PenTile arrangement, not because it's FHD.
I've gotten used to it now, the screen is still quite amazing on the OP3. Tbh, I've always found it funny how phone manufacturers are sucked into the res race given some of the drawbacks of pushing a larger amount of pixels.
I'm moving from my Moto X (2014) to OP3, and trust me the white balance is WAY off towards the blue end. I read a review which did display tests on both the AMOLEDs of X and OP3, and apart from the white balance, OP3 has a slightly better screen and/or screen calibration than the X (which is 2 years old).
Overall I still find it blue after I switch from the X, but it's a beautiful screen nonetheless.

Just got mine, haven't even turned it on yet, but AFAIK (from reviews) white balance is adjustable in the settings. Play around with the slider if it looks too blueish to you.

Yep, thanks! Did that but forgot to mention. Though be careful when you change the slider, there's no reset option in case you want it as it came (not a biggie but a reset option would've been helpful).

That's going to be the downfall of pentile. (The pixel arrangement of the screen) I don't think you have a bad display.

That's a bummer. Didn't know it'd turn out this bad.
I really hope I had a defective piece though. Text looks really bad on it. It ruins the experience of using a premium phone.
Guess I'm really bothered by it because my previous phones were the 6P and Note 4 and I use a retina MacBook Pro; all three had/have excellent displays).
I was very worried about the display when I have heard many saying that it is not sharp due to the pentile arrangement.
Just got mine few hours ago, and here is my personal opinion:
The display looked sharp and crisp, the pentile matrix is hardly visible unless you look at the screen very closely, but under normal usage distance, the display is excellent.

According to it, the effective resolution becomes 326ppi rather than 401ppi.
FYI, resolution of iphone 6s is also 326ppi.
To me the screen of OP3 is way better than the OP2. Everything just looks nice. My OP2 was calibrated with kcal and OP3 has similar calibration. Only the dark grey is a little on the blue/green side.
Disappointed with pixelation caused by the PenTile matrix. Sure, the display is great (much more vibrant and brighter than my outgoing iPhone 6 Plus) but with my perfect near vision small text and edges of icons etc all appear slightly jagged. From a normal distance it's not too bothersome but I can always see it. The 1080p RGB matrix panel on the iPhone appears instantly sharper in comparison but I still wouldn't say its a match as the colour, contrast and brightness are all far better on the OP3.
Resolution is too low for VR, but for everyday tasks is perfect.
I am hesitating to buy a 1+3 device mainly for the mixed comments about screen/display quality.
Can any owner of 1+3 post some pictures of any classical webpage (bbc, cnn, xda, ...) magnified gradually, up to the maximum (125%, 150%, ..., 300%, ..)?

Ive been using the G3, and i dont care what anyone says, there is a huge difference between 1080 and 1440. The text looks smudged. However I cant stream Youtube nor Anime at 720p or higher anywas so it wont matter for me.
Still on the fence of buying it.

1080p really is more than enough for a 5.2 inch phone, higher resolution drains the battery faster too anyway. Only if you are into VR you can do with a higher res screen, all other applications i really don't see the benefit.
Never had an issue with the display. Isn't the most colour accurate panel I've seen, but still have a lovely appearance in my eyes

Display is really nice. Coming from a Note 4, I find the display to be descent. Only thing I would change is the brightness could be about 10-15% brighter. Other than that I knew it would be great for 1080p.
I like that it's really crisp and sharp.
I also like it better than the my old LG G2 & G3 screens and I thought both were awesome when they came out
The first time I powered this on, my eyes perked with delight.

Doesn't have the viewing angle of an S8 and the screen brightness isn't as bright but it wins hands down in all other screen areas.
Had a Note 4 before this phone. That had the best phone screen before the S8/Note 8 that's out now.
Had this phone for a month now and don't miss AMOLED

Yes. I can't say I notice the difference between the very crisp Nexus 6P display and this Pixel's display. That's a very good thing considering that the 6P is a 1440p display.

I have to agree with the others. I was reluctantly hoping the screen would be good but it is absolutely gorgeous to the point where I would NOT want a higher resolution (for battery/performance reasons). If you're majorly into VR then you might disagree with me but I don't think anybody is going to have a question with the screen quality without the magnification VR systems use.
Note: the colors are a little oversaturated with a cool tint but you can very easily enable sRGB mode and it fixes that VERY well. I go back and forth between the two settings. I enjoy the oversaturated colors for typical use but I switch to sRGB when I'm doing web development so I can see the truer colors.
I cannot tell the difference between this and the LG V20 (quad HD) side-by-side (in terms of clarity - the LCD vs. AMOLED is incredibly apparent). Love the screen so far!
wait seriously? the v20 looks like 500x better than this screen. this one is terrible compared to the v20.

I was skeptical and very dismissive of it due to the 720p spec of the display. Yet having it changed my opinion. I placed it next to a 2k LCD and found little difference at a typical daily use distance. I can only see pixelation when viewing very carefully, or using lens.
With that concern out of the way, the 720p display was an excellent choice when it comes to saving battery life. In fact it probably has the longest battery run time of the current crop of xiaomi phones, in large part due to the 720p OLED. With the minute visible difference (I don't understand how people can claim it to be obvious inferior, when to me it clearly isn't), I'm actually willing to take the trade off for better battery life. It is far more vibrant than LCD to boot. Most people I showed it alongside with 1080p LCD on the redmi note7 picked the A3 display, due to color vibrancy.
The camera is excellent. I did side by side comparison with the 64mp gm1 on the redmi note 7. I have to say GM1 did a great job catching up to Sony, but the IMX586 still have the clarity edge at low lights with less noise and clearer RAW images (yup I compared using RAW to take post processing out of the way). However, I can't really say it's a clear winner, as IMX results seem to "smudge" a bit. I'm wondering if by using 48mp marketing gimmick that requires pixel binding was actually a step backwards compared to just straight large-cell 12mp sensor (yet lower MP count sells fewer phones evidently). Nevertheless, no complaints with the cameras. Wide angle and front sensor are both excellent as well. A great phone for selfie lovers, and better than most xiaomi phones except maybe mi9.
Loudspeaker is loud but only above around 800-900hz. So even mids are kinda subdued, and shrieking sounds are pretty loud. Mine buzzes at mid range frequencies which is really annoying. Some built in notifications would result in a buzz at the loudest and 2nd loudest volumes. It's not terribly loud and so the loudest volume is easily required when outdoors or in an urban setting. I think mine's probably defective, as it developed after a few days (past the refund period. :-/) It's not exactly malfunctioning, but annoying nevertheless.
I still love the phone, because of the smaller form factor for true one handed handling. It feels thin and light, yet packs a punch in terms of display colors, battery life, and camera quality. If it can be rooted with AOSP rom, or have native gcam support (I use RMN7's port and it works sans wide angle), it'd be even nicer.
It definitely feels like a better build, with better looks and feel over A2. I think it's a great little package, and if you can get it at a good price, it really is bringing the flagship camera and battery life with clean android to the masses. Something Pixel 3a is trying to do but A3 truly does it better in many ways, not the least its price.
Phone is pretty nice, but it needs some custom rom support. I feel stock is not so optimised as it could be, sometimes it slows down opening apps etc.
Also, max screen brigtness is too low. I didn't pay attention to this while buying it, but anything below 400+ nits is too dim on sunlight.
After using both, Miui and Stock Android, i feel stock is getting overrated. Miui is as fast and packed with features and customization, and Miui's dark mode is way better than google's implemetation.
I personally think Cc9/Mi9 Lite is a better buy although it's cost is a little higher.
Absolutely love this phone, resolution doesn't bother as much as you think it would. My only complain with this phone is vibration motor, but apart from that, it's a fantastic phone (probably the best) in this price range. Biggest loving factors for me are
*Super fast storage (UFS 2.1)
*sAmoled screen
*Build quality and size
*Stock Android
Battery life is super. That's very important for many people
I REALLY recommend that phone, it's amazing for the price... the display is not disappointing as a lot of people say (and anyway, who the F really needs a 1080p display??? what for??? it's not as if the phone was the size of a TV!!!). It's rootable, fast, has a great camera, but doesn't have NFC... In my case, I didn't want it anyway (had it on previous phone, and only used it to show off when reading CC details).
After about two weeks of usage, I really like the phone. Really suits my disabled hands. I wish the screen were a little wider than tall because the extra height doesn't help me so much but extra width would make a lot of things bigger and easier.
I got this for the OLED screen and was not disappointed. Would not trade for a better spec'ed LCD screen. I am all in on OLED. Now do I wish it were 1080 so text would be crisper? Sure. That or a non pentile screen. But for this price, it's not happening at this point in time.
Speed and responsiveness is quite good. It does slow down and lags at time but overall I'm happy with it.
Camera is fine. I don't take pictures much so as long as the pictures I do take aren't embarrassingly bad I'm happy. And I think it's way better than not bad.
Where it falls down is in the audio department. I'm coming from a hand me down iPhone 5 and by comparison the speaker is tinny and kind of painful to listen to. The 3.5mm output isn't great either. I notice a real drop in quality with my grado sr60. I've done the af.resampler.quality tweak too. I'm using an equalizer to make it sound better, but wish they hadn't cut this corner.
Overall, if there's a better OLED phone at this price I don't know about it. I would be willing to pay more to get 1080p and better audio, but not like $150 more after tax like the Mi 9T or Samsung S50. I wish Xiaomi had a phone in the middle. I don't need pop up selfie camera or fancy back. I would be happy with a plastic body and have the money go inside the phone. Lighter to boot.

I love my A3 too. Battery life is insane, sadly i find the Finger Unlock sensor very very slow. It takes so long to unlock that i always using a Pin number instead to be faster. :crying:
I love it. Just got mine a week ago and I really like it. Certainly reminds me of Nexus in many ways. A lot better than MIUI iny opinion. Used Redmi 4X before.

Ya for the price this is a really good phone, the display is the only con but u won't notice it untill u compare it with a full hd panel this aside what u get is a amoled panel and a indisplay finger print scanner
It's a good display knowing it has samoled display , but yes the pixels are visible

Some people are really blowing things out of proportions. I bet they don't even have this phone / didn't use it for long. They just read some BS on the internet about how awful that display was & now they are crying foul over it on this forum
I'm coming from Mi 8 SE, which has a HDR10 capable super amoled panel. Obviously, it will be foolish to compare Mi A3's panel with that phone but I must say, A3's display rather surprised me. The colors might be over saturated for some people but honestly, it looks quite good. And no, I really couldn't see the pixels. Well, the pixels are kinda visible, specially when you're trying to read an article with white fonts against a dark background Still, the AMOLED panel is good.
(Hey Xiaomi, this doesn't mean you should start this ridiculous trend of putting low res screens on your mid-range devices Especially the Mi A series, which happens to have a huge fan following. Stupid move)

Mine has yellowish tone too. It's not unbearable or anything, but the display is on the warmer side. I know some people like it cool, but I don't mind a display which appears warm. I find it easier on my eyes, especially at night.

Display is good and clear. but you can see the pixels with naked ayes if you're close enough...
Night light is also not usable, even on the lowest setting it is too much red/warm. I just want to make the display like 5-10% warmer, and not go into red berserk mode.
If you go into developer mode, does picture color mode or simulated color space help?
I got the phone for my wife, was playing with it for a few hours and these are my findings and comparison with Mi A1:
- A3 has warm tones, A1 is very cool (haven't noticed it before the comparison)
- night light is fine at minimum intensity or just a tad above, definitely not a red berserk. A1 has strong blue hue even with night light (haven't noticed it before).
- A3 has clearly visible pixels, it's a huge downgrade compared to A1 side by side. BUT, after a while, I did not really mind the pixelation of A3 that much (humans can get used probably to anything).
- without my correction glasses, I strongly prefer A3 display over A1. Something how it's being blurred by my eyes makes AMOLED more comfortable.
- colors are nicer/punchier on A3 (confirmed by my wife too)
- brightness seems to be quite low, for the same perceived level I need to configure A3 ~70%, A1 ~50%. I can't imagine using minimum brightness in real life (the same goes with A1), it's barely visible. Need to compare both phones in strong light / outdoors.
- PWM does not flicker at any brightness level
Overall, I would definitely prefer 1080 AMOLED over 720 AMOLED. 720 AMOLED vs. 1080 LCD is a tough call. I'm still debating myself whether I should switch from A1 to A3. I really like the form factor, responsiveness, absolutely clear audio output, 128gb storage, file based encryption and the feel of A3. Non existing "Mi A3 PRO" (Mi CC9) would be a better choice, though bigger form factor is definitely less comfortable for one hand usage (the main reason why I want to replace A1). Dude, I had even "worse" display few years back (Huawei P1) - pentile AMOLED with 256ppi (vs. 286ppi on A3). I was using it for about 2 years and I did not go blind. Don't generalize your personal health issues, there are thousands of A3 phones in use, yet I found only ONE health complaint. If it was that serious as you claim, some people couldn't pass the opportunity for a nice law suite. It should be a no-brainer to prove it.

You are throwing around numbers and comparing. I am giving first hand experience. Again, I have to repeat myself, there is something very wrong with this display, maybe the combination pwm+pentile+low resolution+something else? that is causing massive eye strain.
