Default mode when connecting to PC - Honor 8 Pro Questions & Answers

If you have developer option enabled, there is a settings under NETWORKING that lets us set the default mode when connected via USB. I've set it to MTP but yet, each time I connect the phone to my computer, it is still just "charging" mode.
Anyone have any luck with this?
Also, anyway to disable the D drive prompt? <-- this is one of the Windows that occasionally pop up and contains the setup files (for Windows). I wish we can just delete this thing and free up some extra space.

well what you wanna do is open the explore window of your device and the window containing the file you want transferred , then copy from that window to your device window.

[Q] Drive Mode Windows 7

Hello,
I just got my Evo. Love it.
My question is, I enter drive mode on Windows Vista, but when I try to enter drive mode on Windows 7, the drive does not show up. In the device manager, it shows up as an unknown device. In devices and printers, it shows up as an Android phone. ????
Any help would be great!!!
did you install htc sync on the windows 7?
Mine did the same thing on Windows 7. Actually I'm on my third Evo & all of them were like that. I never got the option to choose in the notification bar & HTC Sync never helped, the phone wasn't recognized.
Make sure you're using the cable that came with the phone or at least one shorter than two-feetish. Long 3rd party cables won't work. Download widgetsoid 2.x from the market, it's a power control widget & it's great. Make a 1x1 switcher widget & only select "usb storage" under the first category. Ignore all of the other options because you'll be removing it after anyway. On the bottom panel, scroll all the way to the right & click apply. Sorry for the lengthy description, I'm not sure how well you know how to work your phone. Okay, turn on USB debugging in settings > applications > development. If you feel the need you can reboot your phone. Be sure to not kill anything.
Connect the cable to the computer. You should get a notice that usb debugging is on, don't touch it. Find the widget you made & touch it. You should connect after a couple seconds. If it tells you to connect your phone first, then it isn't working & this advice was pointless.

The device it's seeing is the adb interface from the phone (Unknown Device). If you enter storage mode (ie Cable plugged in -> Notifications > USB Connected > Turn on USB Storage), it is a different device that should be recognized by Win7 native drivers. If not, you could try installing HTC Sync and then rebooting, then plugging in your phone and try that.
Worst case, get a microSD-SD adapter that will let you put your SD card direct in the PC (not the best solution, but it works).

USB Connected but doesn't show up on my mac

How come the internal storage and the sd card doesn't show up on my mac? I can see that it is recognizing the phone though.
Tried it with windows 7 on parallels too for some reason they don't show up as drives. Can't seem to figure out why.
It's not on by default, you have to go to Settings>Wireless And Networks>USB Utilities>Connect Storage To PC
After you connect your phone to your computer, on your phone, bring down your notifications and click usb and then click connect usb data mode or whatever it's called. I had the same problem until I found out how it worked.
Both above answers don't give the full story. The default connectivity mode for the phone is a media connectivity mode that simplifies the process and allows you to access your data without unmounting the storage, but it's only supported by Windows. Macs can't connect that way.
86apex's information is one correct way to turn on the more typical mode that will then work with your Mac. It's just not that it's not on by default, it's just that the mode that IS on isn't supported by your system.
Megatr0n.'s instructions are only valid if you have USB debugging mode turned on. Otherwise you wouldn't see what he (I'm assuming) is describing. That said, turning on that mode (Settings/Applications/Development/USB debugging) and enabling that menu option would be easier than going through the steps 86apex listed every single time you want to connect.

Where is USB Mode MTP/PTP settings?

I used Helium to change to USB PTP mode and now mine tablet isnt recognized when connected to PC. Want to change it back to MTP mode, but I cant find anywhere in the settings to choose betweens USB modes and I just dont know how Helium broiught me there.
So where is this USB mode settings hiding in the settings?
edit:
Managed to change it back to MTP mode, be secret code *#0808# and there are few choice to choose from. I chosed just MTP, but there is also MTP + ADB and does it matter which to choose? Since the tablet is still not recognized when connected to PC as it used to do before?
Also, USB Mode is suppose in storage settings, but there is no ways to access it by just go into storage settings and only through Helium app. How do you enable this hidden settings in Storage?
Normal there should be "3 dots menu" to get there, but there isnt in mine tablet and do Samsung hve removed it or its a bug?
edit2:
Fixed it, by uninstall Helium and few other apps. After reboot and tablet is recognized when connect to pc and got USB mode choice by pulling notification down.

adb problems

so i got a used pixel 2 xl recently, and after set up i go turn on "usb debugging" in dev settings, but when i plug the phone into my laptop, the dropdown menu of what mode to go into (ptp, usb tethering, midi, file transfer) doesnt show up, and when i plug in the phone while the drop down menu is open, a notification shows up with the words "usb debugging connected" for just a second or two, then disapears. I know the cable, and my copy of platform tools are good because they work with another device. i tried every mode under "default usb configuration" in dev settings, and for the life of me i cant figure out why it wont let me connect. so if yall got ideas im happy to listen
Open up terminal and type adb devices and hit enter
Sometimes this triggers the permission window. This way you can establish adb connection.
I just had a similar problem like this. The USB cable and laptop I had been using all this time started acting up. I could adb and fastboot reboot and run flash-all.bat, but I couldn't adb push all of the sudden.
After a few hours of trying many different options, I ended up using a different computer. You may want to find another computer or swap out the USB cable.
Good luck.
