Difference between lg h811 and h815t? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I opened my box today and realized the manual mentioned lg g4 h815t.... I have a h811
Looked up on website both are T-Mobile. What's the difference?
What phone do I really have?
Could I potentionally flash a h815 ROM?

The H815T is Not T-Mobile. The H815T are sold in Turkey and Hong Kong. It's mostly the same as the H815 variant.
If you flash an H815 firmware on your device if it's a H811 you'll permanently brick your device.

LG website states 815T is a T-Mobile phone.
It is possible the manual just has that model number listed and shipped with my 811 device.
How do I really check what version I have?
And why would they state 815T is a T-Mobile phone on their website?

I see no where on LGs website on the H815T page stating it's T-Mobile. If it does it's a glitch. It's 100% not a T-Mobile USA device.
Manuals may not matter as a G4 is a G4 operation wise.
What do you mean check which version you have? If it's a H811 then it's a T-Mobile device. T-Mobile only has 1 model for the G4.
Where did you buy your phone? If used/referb/second hand that might explain the manual mismatch.

Bought it through Rogers. Apparently rogers sells or sold h812
Box imei and serial number match to phone.
Must be manual...manual is a manual.
But why would Rogers be selling a T-Mobile phone.....when they have their own brand?
Anyway to check other than software?

Now that is what's odd. So you bought it through a actual Rogers store? And not a reseller that just happens to sell rogers stuff?
Rogers themselves I doubt would sell a T-Mobile device.

It’s not that it’s not been tried. It cannot be done. If it is you’ll 1. Result in a brick or 2. It won’t work and hope that you’ll be able to flash it back.
The modems in those phones are completely different. Along with the T-Mobile model having antirollback which makes it impossible

Ok well I have the H812 with antirollback value 0. once steadfasterx is fully complete his unofficial bootloader unlock, my plan is to unlock bootloader, install TWRP, then until custom roms for this variant comes out, I plan on flashing other carrier firmwares.... and it seems H815 has better updates, so probably going to flash that one...
Also, can you kindly tell me what you mean by "modem" in the phone? is it the thing that deals with frequency bands?
If it softbricks, I can always re-flash my stock firmware right? What are the chances of a hardbrick?

H812 won’t be as locked down as the H811 is. But flashing wrong model firmware is a no no. Flashing custom roms built on another firmware may not work correctly but won’t be as harmful as flashing stock firmware which will 99% won’t work and or will cause a hard brick.

Convert a H815T to UK (euro version)

Can you convert a H815T (Hong Kong) version to a UK (Euro) version using the correct files when rooting? So if I use the International H815 10c Version files will this change it to Euro verions?
What do you mean by Euro version? What do you want to change? I don't think you can do what you want by flashing a different system image.
I think he's looking for root? Same as myself.

I'm not so sure.
But if you have the H815 you can root using the international files posted in the root thread.
Too many versions if the 815. I don't believe the 815t is rootable yet.

Yes it is.
Yeah I was asking if the H815T you could you use the H815 files and you can.
I could get the H815T cheap but found a selling the H815 for the same price so I don't need this anymore. Only if LG could stop making a million different variants and confusing people
But thanks for all your help guys.
I bought the H815T because of band 40 support, which Optus uses.
I used the international H815 10c image to root mine.
Optus are shipping the H815T, Telstra are shipping H815K (which is missing quite a few bands compared to the T). I have one of the Optus H815Ts. Im not prepared to flash a slightly mis-matching system.img and would much prefer to make my own. Ive not let the firmware update yet, and the download mode shell works. But the recovery block device isnt present preventing TWRP from being flashed in.
I dont think 'converting' a H815T to a euro would help with the unlock at all, because I think the key is not a flag but a hash (unconfirmed, the hex key gen thing could be a bluff) and the hash is generated after LG lookup your device ID. Even if you changed to the euro firmware, I think LG would still consider your device a 'T'.
I have been looking for a root method for the T version but it dosent appear possible yet.

This is correct. Were going to be waiting a while for a bootloader unlock. Telstra/ Optus certianly wont release one so were relying on someone to claim the bounty and figure out an exploit.
Just FYI if your looking for ROOT you can use the Low Effort Root and flash a euro version, but you wont be able to unlock the bootloader.
Also if you just want Marshmallow on your Telstra or Optus phone you dont need to unlock the bootloader, you can simply run LGUP and flash the 20b files to it. (you cant have Marshmallow and root as far as I'm aware)
Anyone in this thread have h815k original system.img file? or a rooted system.img file? Reason is I flashed the 10c version for root but now I want to run LGUP so I need to reflash to stock and I didnt backup (silly me).
Let me know thanks guys

So is it dangerous to go from 815K to 815T as radio bands are different? i changed from Telstra to Optus so wondering if I can do this...

How many H815 versions there are and how to identify them?

I though that H815 was the european open version (able to unlock bootloader and such) and that the other versions had other names, but I've seen people about talking about H815 versions with the same name and with or without LTE-A, or even specific H815 versions for Asia, France or even non-carrier USA, and on all of them the bootloader is locked as ****.
Is this true? in this case, if you were buying this phone online, how to determine you're buying the european open version? what's the model name exactly for that?
Thanks!
I got mine from handtec.com. I made sure before purchasing that it was the H815 EU. That is what you are looking for. And as a note, I unlocked my boot loader 3 days ago so I know what they sell is the true EU version.

Only way I know of is to check settings under software version. For example mine shows V10C-TWN-XX.

You must open your G4 and see in the motherboard what model it is. Probably you have a refurbish G4 (maybe LS991 model).

[Frankenstein Phone] Using LGUP for crossflashing

Caution: DO NOT try this on variants except for LS998 and VS996 unless you know deeply how the partitions work in LG systems.
Basic crossflashing method: Instead of choosing "UPGRADE" In the "process" menu, choose "PARTITION DL",then click "select all", confirm and there you go.
If running into problems in starting the phone, perform a data reset.
Cases: In China, numerous cases of LS998/VS996 successfully flashing US998 or AS998 or H933 and working fine have been confirmed, since second-hand phone dealers crossflash as a common practice for certain reasons. And LTE band 1 and 5 which are not active on LS998/VS996 before flashing are activated in the flashed US998 (the so-called Frankenstein) system. Dual sim also CAN BE recognized on VS996 with flashed H930DS system coz the circuit system seems to be identical among all the variants of V30. However with the baseband difference network is not working.

Sorry for the uneducated questions:
1. This will only work if the bootloader is already unlocked, correct?
2. You mention certain LTE bands become active, but later you say the network is not active due to baseband differences. Can you please clarify what that means for me and other low-tech users?
Thanks for your efforts!

1. It does not require an unlocked BL;
2. Only flashing H930DS on VS996(possibly LS998 as well) results in network problems.

That's interesting! So with this process, I can put an official LG ROM on my H933, with the end result of converting it to a different variant of the V30?
The H933 has not been provided with a bootloader unlock solution by LG, but some other V30 variants have. I am wondering if I could use this process to flash my device from H933 to a variant which has BL unlock available and then go ahead with that. Has that already been ruled out or confirmed possible?

Yes you can convert it, with it seems full functionality. EXCEPT...
No, to the bootloader unlock -- at least on LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list website. That's eligible through IMEI range and they double check Device ID.
LG Developer Bootloader Unlock website then sends you a file you flash that is only good for that particular phone. Basically a custom code to unlock the bootloader with full flash commands available.
Think of it like the US998 or the H930G. Some are eligible for bootloader unlock, like the open market LG US998 or the Italian H939G. But there's plenty out they which are NOT eligible for bootloader unlock, like the U.S.Cellular model US998 or the Israeli H939G.
Just because you have that model doesn't mean LG will unlock the bootloader.

Whatever Frankenstein you change your original phone into, the BL CAN NOT be unlocked unless your IMEI and device id are effective to be used on LG bootloader unlocking page.
Right, that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification gents

I flashed my US998 V30+ to the Verizon VS996. It gave me Oreo. Plus a working Verizon voicemail. My wife is no longer cursing me out for missing her voicemails.
I haven't tried going back yet, but I might if LG unlocks the V30+ bootloader.

Does that essentially mean that we all could get root on all other models if the H932 is ever rooted?
This i kind of aimed at Chazz or anyone that understands a bit more in-depth what is contained in the unlock file LG sends out to those on the official unlock list. I'm guessing that the key is IMEI specific. Based on that. Is there some way to make one of those files generic or for some way for a user to take one of those files and change the information in it to the specific IMEI of their device? Before anyone asks. Changing your devices IMEI is a taboo subject here and also more than likely would need root. Chazz has multiple devices. I am wondering if he has tried his unlock bin on his V30+ or tried any methods to alter the bin to work with his V30+.

I flashed fo that reason and couldn't spot it. Seems like those unlocked versions also don't have them. I am curious if we flash the one sold in europe, if they have it, may appear. Doubt it would be that easy though.

Looks like it for now. Since the phone has come out, maybe we'll find a way since it may be the first samsung sd 865 in europe, and they allow them to unlock their bootloaders.
I dont know if I am keeping the device, seems a little buggy, touch issues, random stutters, and I was taking photos that don't save apparently.

Hmmm. I thought U.S model is g781u only?

I think the U is the career version and the u1 is the unlocked, or maybe flipped. They are super confusing as each carrier doesn't have a specific model, the same one assuming it is the U one. Judt different firmwares or userdata.
*Could be totally wrong. Just thinking out loud.

I flashed the unlocked U1 firmware on the device. Getting some weird touch issues and the phone always overheating. Going back to T-Mobile to evaluate the difference. Anyone flashed the unlocked yet?

Can you confirm this is U.S firmware? or Europe. Since its stated G781U1UEU, not G781U1US.

Possibly. I went by the website and downloaded the xaa with the us flag thing on it. Unfortunately I don't know which one is the European.

Flashed to U1 XAA. I asked around with people that purchased S20 FE unlocked. They confirmed it's G781U1UEU1ATIG for unlocked.
I'll test this out . At start up it didn't ask me to restart to config my sim, LOL.
So far I notice the unlocked firmware is less cluster, no lag. I was having problem with Samsung pay not loading on main screen.
Since I've T-mobile unlocked this phone. I'll keep it on U1 firmware.
