Magnetic dash mount - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Accessories

Does anyone have any experience with these for this phone? I have a thick-ish Spigen case and was looking for any recommendations for magnetic dash mounts. I currently have a CD slot mount but the cradle is too small and the whole thing is just bulky overall. Ideally the magnet is strong enough that the phone won't slide or move around too much while driving. Thank you in advance for any help!

I own one it's a vent clip it works great with the car off otherwise it will fall every bump. Also if you have to drive on bumpy road it will fall off even without the case.
I have yet to find one with a strong enough magnet to hold it steady no matter what.

I bought this one and its been in my Tow Truck since i got it. My S8+ has yet to fall from it.

I use this and the magnet can hold the following phones just fine even over bumps: Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 4, GS7E, iPhone SE (of course), and GS8+.

Looking for a Windshield/Dash mount

Need a Windshield or Dash mount(probably prefer windshield). I do use a slim TPU case. Anyone out there found a good one they can share?
I just bought an official Samsung vehicle mount today. It fits any Samsung phone with a 4 - 5.5 inch screen.
Its awesome BTW, real solid. There are some video reviews on youtube

I got the TomTom TomTom Universal Alternative Mount from Target. I regretted it at first because it was a return item, and the person had broken it before returning it. I decided to get super glue and glue the arm to the mounting brace. I assume that an unused version would work as intended.
Now, I can record car accidents by tilting the phone on the mount...
Arkon universal mount, excellent stand and very sturdy.

I'm using the Arkon MG110, which includes a sticky dash mount, but their MG115 uses the same holder with a windshield suction cup mount. There's a spring in the back of the holder that I had to shorten to get it to open enough to fit my Nexus with the Otterbox Defender. They claim it opens to 2.81", but I'm not sure where they measure that on the curved arms of the holder.
Here's a link to their catalog: http://www.arkon.com/catalog/Arkon_2011_Catalog.pdf

I have adopted this solution and I'm able to confirm that it works very well.
I've been told that the veichle mount for the new Samsung Galaxy S III fits well the Nexus too.
Brodit vehicle specific mount + the Brodit passive holder for iPhone 3GS with case.
The holder's adjustable across a wide range and it's the only one I could find that would fit a Galaxy Nexus + any case.
I've used this Arkon Mobile grip mount when I had a car (got a motorcycle) and now my girlfriend uses it in here Scion with her GS3. It's only $18.

This particular holder will fit a typical TPU case, they have larger holders that will fit bigger cases like the Otterbox Defender.

I use the Keno+ for Phablets. I drive a 2013 Honda civic and it plugs right into the vent to the right of the steering wheel. It works great, never fallen out, easy to adjust. I'd definitely recommend this one. Kenu Airframe+ Car Mount for Phablets.
I recently picked up a Scosche MagicMount at Walmart. The price was decent and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it holds the phone in place. The steel plate fits inside my case, and the phone doesn't move when attached to the mount.
After using it a bit I decided the mount location was too low for my taste, so I just ordered this version to move it up higher and make it adjustable. I don't have the new one yet, so no pics, but if it works like the flat version I'll be happy.
I use this GreatShield mount:

It's solid and holds the phone still, so I can't complain.
I use this one:

It is dirt cheap and actually nice quality. The suction thingy sticks to any surface.
iottie, i've never had a mount with this type of suction cup, it's crazy how well it grabs.

I'll vouch for these too. I even use 2 to hold my iPad mini on my dash. Although I bought them from ebay, more expensive at 2 for £5GBP, but you get them in 3 days rather than the estimated 30-60 days from aliexpress.
See pic
I use this iOtie holder and it is perfect. The gel pad sticks without any issue and I'm not worried about it falling off on these crappy Dallas roads.

Car Mount recommendation?

Can anyone recommend a good car mount?
I just bought some cheesy magnetic thing from Amazon. Will be returning ASAP. Ideally, I think I'm looking for something that can clip into either the air vents or on the dash of my car. I realized there probably aren't many pixel specific accessories made yet, but maybe someone has had good success with a different model for an earlier phone?
Anyway just wondering what you all were planning on using.
I've been using a good magnetic mount for the CD slot in my car since the Nexus 5 days. I like the Koomus brand of them from Amazon.

I personally been using ProClip for a while. With my Nexus 6 I have a universal one since I have a thin case it slips in. Mounts are made per vehicle too.

I've had the third generation iOttie car mount for about a year, and it is excellent. It doesn't have a vent clip, but its suction cup mount is very sturdy. It even comes with a little pad you can use if your dash is textured.
I second the ProClip. You can get a custom mount for your vehicle, and select a separate holder. I've got a custom mount and a universal holder that can be adjusted if you switch phones.
I second the recommendations for iOttie mounts. I bought their wireless charging one back when I got my Galaxy S6, but I still use it with my Pixels because it is incredibly convenient to secure and remove the device. Excellent quality, usability, and adjustability, well worth the purchase.

Looks like a solid product! I have an '09 Kia Spectra and the dash doesn't look like an easy place to put a phone mount. I checked out their custom mount for my car and the only drawback I can see is it completely covers a vent (for a/c) which may or may not be an issues, I won't know until mounted but.. Any experience with that for you?
Yea on my prior vehicle I had it cover the vent. It was out far enough so it still put out air but it wasn't really directional as far as flow as before. Center ones I didn't care as much about being pointed at me to keep cool. It was a solid bracket though

I have an existing car mount for my S7 before I got the XL, it holds the phone in landscape and squeezes the sides. Little concerned that this may not be good for the squeeze sensors. Anyone think it could affect the sensors over time?
I have this one since May 2016 no issues and easy off and on for various phones..I have vent but they make cd slot and I think window too

Another vote for Proclip's mounting solution. The universal large holder works fine with my Pixel 2 XL with a (Caseology Parallax) case. It's pricey but it works beautifully.
I just ordered the IOAuto magnet holder to use with Proclip's mounting bracket. I'm tired of sliding my phone into the holder. 1st world problems, I know.

I bought the IOAuto Pro. It attaches to the vehicle mount that I purchased previously from Proclip. It comes with small circular metal disks that should be attached to your phone.
I hate the thought of using adhesive to stick anything on my phone so I'm going to try and place the disk between the phone and my TPU case. In think the magnet will still work fine.
Check out YouTube. I've seen a couple of videos of others installing it.

I like this simple magnetic holder:
Techmatte MagGrip Orbit Universal Air Vent Magnetic Car Mount Holder
It requires a thin metal plate which works fine if you use a TPU case or other case that's not too thick on the back; this way, it doesn't require any permanent application. I bought 3 for family members, and a friend got one after seeing mine. It's easy to mount, secure, very simple in design - it uses a steel ball that mounts to an air vent, and a magnetic piece that connects to the ball, giving easy adjustment in all directions, or complete removal. This magnetic piece connects to the phone's steel plate. My wife has an iphone 6P which works well; I have a nexus 5X.

I'm curious to see if that works out for you. I'm intrigued, but it seems like $50 is a bit steep for that mount. If it works well for you with a case, I may consider it though.
I know my solution isn't going to be for everyone, but it works well for my needs. I have a hybrid Proclip/Ram Mount solution. Proclip for the center dash mount, then Ram Mounts for the rest (ball, short arm, and X Grip holder). It's more involved than the common solutions, but it puts my phone right whereIi want it and it's rock solid--which is important for those track days.
As mentioned upthread, this does partially block the vent, but on my Mustang not by too much, and the passenger still gets air flow when it's directed their way. A bonus is the phone stays nice & cool when staying on playing podcasts while commuting, or running the telemetry apps while on track.
I can strongly recommend this one. They're a little pricey but I have them in my truck, car, 4-wheeler and mountain bike. Just the spring clips are strong and when you add the rubber sling it'll hold on to the phone almost no matter what. This one actually fits my P2XL better than my PXL. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0066BWMNU/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Car(windshield) Mount

What is everyone using?
My old side spring grip style one isn't going to work. I love the thing but it either presses on the volume buttons or activates Assistant. Have any of you found one that works without these issues?
I'm considering one of the magnetic ones but I don't like the idea of having to add a piece of metal to the back of my case.
Any success stories?
I've been using this one since my pixel 1. Love it, the build is ridiculously solid, I'll probably never need to buy a mount ever again. It's only a few solid aluminum pieces. The metal plates you put on your case are very thin. The magnetic pull doesn't start until it literally gets to the plate. The plate doesn't look bad. But that's the only draw back I think. I'm happy with it though. Good luck!
I mounted mine on my window, my wife has hers on the dashboard. It's been about a year and is lasting very well. The mount shows no wear and tear.

I really like the looks of those! Very clean.
Have you had any issues with the phone wanting to spin on the mount?
Thanks,

I'm waiting for my Pixel 2 to arrive, but I use a Spigen Magnetic Mount for my air vent currently. They offer a windshield/dash mount also. It holds very tight, but not too tight. No issue with the phone falling and/or rotating during driving.
I'm wondering if any of the Spigen cases will work without the need to put the metal plate inside. I currently have the metal plate inside the back cover of my Galaxy S5, but I can tell there is a bulge where it is placed.
I'm on the list to be notified when these release. By far the best holder charger combo I've ever used https://www.proclipusa.com/category/google-pixel-2
Can't tell you how disappointed when I popped my new phone into the dash mount only to watch the volume drop on it's own. The volume rocker placement on the Pixel 2 leaves a lot to be desired. I'm not a huge fan of magnets interfacing with computers to be honest. Hope I can find a decent alternative.
I use the Tetrax, both the Fix and Xway. Most of the time I use the Fix, because I like having my air vents actually blowing air on ME, but in the summer, on a long drive, using the GPS and charging the device, it can sometimes get warm. I just take it off the Fix, and move it to the air vent to let the air conditioner cool it down. I've used this system for nearly a decade, not sure if the Pixel 2 will get warm enough to need the air vent.
The only thing you need to put on the phone is a small metal button. The package comes with several sizes. I adhere this to my Spigen Thin Fit case, so it doesn't have to be attached to the actual phone.

I got two of these yesterday, one for me and another for a Xmas gift.
Works great. I have had co-workers, friends and family who have seen it, express interest in getting one for themselves.
I order 6 extra plates to go with each unit. It already comes with several extras. I have only used one plate so far because a allot of places I will use it are metal surfaces.
I put the thin disc on the back of my phone and put my case back on. Nothing to see until I actually use it.
Good mount.

Ok
Brodit
Adjustable active Brodit + ProClip :good:
I started using the Scosche magnetic mount with my Pixel 2 and really like it. The metal plate on the phone is very thin and I can't see it since I have a black TPU case. If you don't use a case or have a transparent one, you'll need to be ok with being able to see that. I already had a mounting surface on my car so I just stuck the magnet to that. I haven't noticed the magnet doing anything funky to my phone.

I second this, I find the magnetic car mount is by far the best I've ever used, the one i previously used, used to activate active edge or turn volume down, which was quite annoying.

awesome

No Brodit holders?

I can't find any brodit holders for the newer xperias, especially the xperia 5 ii, in the brodit shops.
Has anyone seen some anywhere?
The universal brodit holders probably wouldn't fit due to the camera button..
I use proclips, they don't have one specific for sony, but do have adjustable ones.
I use proclip as they make a great mount for gmc trucks.
Proclip
Which model exactly do you use?
I have a generic Brodit holder, I bought for my XZ2 ( on that I had to trim the rubber off the camera button on it's case). I've had to tweak it slightly wider for the X5II.
The bottom button is inside the bracket, but the bracket has slots down the side and the button actually sits between. So when I put it in it occasionally triggers, but once in the slot it's fine, no buttons in contact.
I do have to keep the holder tight to avoid movement now it's such a long ohone sticking up.
I would take a photo but I'd need my phone
I tried it at my friend's universal holder. It had to be very tight and still moved back- and forward, as it's so long and the holder too deep for the slim phone.
Are there any information on fitting holders for this phone?
I also created a thread concerning 3D models: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-5-ii/accessories/holder-3d-models-to-print-t4181633

Proclip is literally Brodit.
I use a universal Brodit one, fits without problems. You can wiggle it back and forth by hand but it does not move while driving.
so just an update to what i have done. i had a proclip/brodit for my s10, i then bought a pixel 4xl and bought the proclip/brodit that adjusts as at the time no holder was available for the pixel 4xl.
the s10 is 2.4mm wider than my xperia 5ii. what i did was buy some felt with 3m on the back and cut pieces to put on the holder where the phone sits. this has worked out great for me. the phone does not move and is protected with the felt. if you want some pics let me know.
now even without the felt the xperia 5ii fit in the s10 holder ok, was just a little loose. this got me to thinking what other phones are simliar in size to the xperia 5ii.
with that said you could order the proclip/brodit holder for the pixel 4 and the xperia 5ii would fit as the pixel is only .8mm bigger. if the s10 proclip/brodit holder worked without the felt (just loose) for sure the pixel 4 holder will work.
