Should I be using the default camera? - Samsung Galaxy A3, A5, A7 (2017) Questions & Answe

Should I be using the default camera app? I like that I can double tap home to quick access, and I don't think that I can do that with third-party app.

I have a3 and i find the stock camera photos kinda soft or fuzzy ...theres not much detail... Im using open camera because is the first camera api2 compatible camera i found... The images are significantly better in terms of clarity/detail... If you have any suggestion for a camera app I'm open....

I use Manual camera https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2
You can use Manual mode! It's amazing!
If u can't pay it there are some external stores that have it....cof cof aptoide cof cof!!
Good luck :good:

Is there anyway to get the double press short cut to work for third party cameras?

Guess I'm looking for one that I can use when the screen is off. I take it I need to root my phone.

Started using it and it's great. I tried camera fv-5 and I preferred manual camera! But the thing about fv-5 is that you can switch to video camera easily since there's a corresponding video camera app. Wish manual camera had that.

Camera2 api support?

Can anyone here having a g4 confirm if it has camera2 api support? I know its manual mode does support everything camera2 is supposed to do, including manual shutter speed and white balance, but does it support those natively via camera2 api, or lg's own implementation? Can anyone test using either https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test or snap camera and try enabling camera2 api in its "other" menu and take a raw photo? Thanks in advance!!!
Yes It supports!
Only problem I've encountered with some 3rd party apps are longer shutter speeds like 15, 30 seconds. They won't let me choose them. Other than that. Works like a charm!
manual camera gives FC without any popup for me (i open, see short time interface, then it close itself and im back in appdrawer..)

Thanks, can you tell me which apps you tested that are compatible? What is the longest shutter speed usable on each of them? Thanks again!

I've tested both. Work great, but maximum shutter speed was slower.
Also tested Cinema FV-5 for videos. Still glitchy (probably will be solved with the next update). That will be awesome because it can record 4K longer than stock camera (no 5 minute limit). It also supports manual focus during video recording.
Yeah we could probably disable the 5 minute warning(or you can shoot video after video). I hope I'm gonna buy a g4 today so I can start putting apps into the app section (or android development, not sure)

LG G6 - DashCam App which uses the wide angle cam *found* !

Hello!
I use my phone as a dash cam.
Works pretty good, but all dash cam apps I tried are using the "normal" camera and not the wide angle cam.
But the wide angle cam would be perfect.
How can I switch between the two cameras or does anyone know a dash cam app which uses the wide angle?
Rgds, Martin
EDIT:
***************************************************************************************************
Solution found, it should also work with
V20, G5
Install DailyRoads Voyager Pro from PlayStore
After install go to authors homepage
On the right hand side, download APK "Pro version with wide-angle" and install it as update over the Version from PlayStore.
It works for me on the LG G6 (H870)
EDIT2:
I am not the author of this app and I am not related to the author!
I don't think the wide angle is exposed in the camera 2 API. It's unlikely that you will find a third party app that will ever support it.

Whatsapp uses both lenses, so why dashcam app couldn't do iit ?
Good question, looking for the same!
I have asked the developer of the dashcam app I am using.
If I get feedback I will let you know.

It switches the camera, "back wide / back normal / front "

Does this need a sim card or internet to work? Curious because I want to run my old g4 with this but obviously its not connected to a mobile network.

You can run this app without any internet/network connections.
There is the possibility to upload videos, but no need.
I have blocked all network connections to this app via firewall.

Fantastic! Thank you
For those coming from Google: Autoguard is another app that uses the wide-angle camera by default.
Useful thread, never thought about using mobile as dash cam.

Works pretty good. The dash cam app starts as soon as bluetooth is connected to car radio.
So you don't have to think about starting that app.
Playing music over bluetooth and using navigation app at the same time works without problems.

On LG-Developers website, there are libraries to use the second back-camera.
I'm using them in my app, they all work.
Is there an app that films 4:3 in full Resolution with the wide angle camera?

[APP] [WIDE-ANGLE CAMERA] HedgeCam2: Advanced Camera

Hey guys, i found this APP on Play Store. I've tested this camera app with stock firmware, and the wide-angle camera works very good! It also have the manual control feature and it's totally free and with no ads! Try it yourself!

P.s. : I'm not the developer of this app! If you like this app, leave a good review on Play Store! :highfive:

I'd honestly rather use the default camera app. If I'm going to use a camera app that doesn't work 100%, I'm going to be using the Google Camera app.

Poor video & picture quality

Took a few videos using this phone at my sons birthday earlier. Very disappointed at the quality. Is there particular settings I should be using when taking videos? Or is there a better app to use? Pictures are good but not brilliant. So maybe my settings are not set correctly. Thanks in advance.

It is an app, actually many apps. Gcam is the Google's Pixel camera port and it works great on Android 8.1 Oreo. Not so much on Pie though, on Pie Xiaomi broke the focus and none of the gcams can properly focus. So if you're on Pie, don't bother, it won't be worthy of your time. If you're on Oreo, go to guides section and find guides about "camera 2 API" or "cam2API". Follow them to the letter then sideload gcam apk. :good:
I'm on android 9
