Google Camera Mod for OnePlus 5 (cheeseburger) and 5T (dumpling)
1. Camera HAL Confusion
Spoiler
a. Camera HAL Basics
First, let's understand what a camera HAL is. A camera HAL is what allows a ROM to "talk to" the camera hardware; without it, the camera would be non-functional. Think of the camera HAL as the steering wheel and pedals of a car. The steering wheel/pedals allow for control of the internal components of the vehicle by providing an external interface for the driver (the ROM) to make use of the internal components.
At present, the source code of the camera HAL included in OxygenOS has not been released by OnePlus. Instead, OnePlus has compiled that source code and shipped it on the OnePlus 5/5T as a BLOB (Binary Large OBject). This has been a major setback for custom ROM developers because having access to the camera HAL source would make porting the stock OnePlus Camera to a custom ROM a much easier endeavour.
b. Camera HAL, Google Camera Mod and Root Requirements
The latest releases of the mod require you to be rooted (as you mandatorily need to install DotFix, which contains a modified camera HAL compatible with the latest releases) or the pictures that you click will come out with pink/purple/green tint on them, or will have a dotted pattern on them, or the camera might not work at all. So if you're rooted, then you're good to go. However, if you're unrooted (and prefer staying that way), then you can still use an specific version of the mod which works fine (with a few issues/restrictions, of course). All the downloads for rooted as well as non-rooted users are in the next post in the thread (post # 2).
2. Known Bugs and Workarounds
Spoiler
[Unrooted Only] Dotted Pattern Overlay
Issue - A dotted pattern overlay is visible in the HDR+ pictures (when completely zoomed in)
Resolution - You have to root, install DotFix as well as the recommended version for rooted users from point 3
[Unrooted Only] Front Camera HDR+/Portrait Mode Non Operational/Captures Distorted Pink/Purple/Green Lines
Issue - Front camera captures distorted pink/purple/green lines while using HDR+ or Portrait Mode
Resolution - You have to root, install DotFix as well as the recommended version for rooted users from point 3
[Rooted Only] HDR+ Front Camera Pictures Restricted to 4.0 Megapixels
Issue - HDR+ pictures that are clicked with the front camera are restricted to 4.0 megapixels, even though the maximum resolution of 15.9 megapixels is selected for the front camera under settings
Resolution - None available yet; details of why this is the case are mentioned in this post
[Both] Zero Shutter Lag (ZSL) Non Operational
Issue - Zero Shutter Lag (ZSL) doesn't work
Resolution - None available yet
[Both] DotFix Magisk Module Incompatible with Audio Mods
Issue - Some audio mods interfere with the DotFix Magisk module due to which they don't work as intended
Resolution - Uninstall the audio mods or try setting SELinux to permissive using SELinux Switch from this post of mine.

Me too

The difference is insane. In all the pictures I took the Google camera came up better than stock

Solved slowmotion by modify media_profiles.xml (need to add encoder profiles)

I can see significant improvement in the pictures with this camera especially in low light. Those water color effects are gone! And yes the touch focus is not working and also the slow motion. Hope something will happen soon. Thanks to that developer who made this possible!

Can anyone explain to me how this is different from the Google Camera app in the Play Store? (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.GoogleCamera)

My point is that the app from the Play Store has HDR too. How is that different from this (HDR+)?

Of all the times I've used the Google camera, it does not look like that. I had nexus 6p before OP5. The option for HDR should be top right. I have no idea what camera that screenshot is from.

OK.... Darker one is Google. HTC have more noise. Just check night shot... Or just don't use. Cheers!
Any chance we could get the slow motion working?

The one above is Google Camera. It tends to brighten up the picture which leads to more noises when you capture in the dark.

According to the developer, the minimal port just makes sure all camera modes actually launch, but does not guarantee that they function as intended. If you have issues with the full port, for example not being able to save videos, try the minimal port instead.

Modded Google Camera 4.4 with HDR+ Final v1.0
Download
Probably the final version, as the dev doesn't see any more areas that he can improve
BUT his Google Camera 3.2 port for Android 6.0+ is now in open testing
Changelog:
HDR+ images are saved faster
Possibly slightly sharper images
Can quickly switch between camera modes without crashing the app
Remaining issues:
In regular photo mode focus still isn't synchronized with the flash, must use touch focus
Low sharpness in panorama mode
No video stabilization
Modded Google Camera 4.4.020 with HDR+ for Android 7.0 / ARM64
Download
Based on Google Camera 4.4.020, while the previous versions were based on 4.4.012
Unsupported by the developer, might have issues that have been addressed in Google Camera 4.4.012 v1.0 Final
The developer decided to continue working on the 4.4.020 port, so here are two more versions of that one. MGCB v1.1 is the latest version, but I'm including v1.0 for completeness and changelog. The apk naming convention has changed again: no Google Camera version in the name, just MGCB.
Modded Google Camera 4.4.020 with HDR+ for Android 7.0 / ARM64 v1.1
Download
Changelog:
Optimized interface
Fixed EXIF for HDR+
Modded Google Camera 4.4.020 with HDR+ for Android 7.0 / ARM64 v1.0
Download
Changelog:
(Almost) all modes and settings are now functional
Remaining issues:
Burst mode deactivated
16:9 cuts off part of the frame in regular mode of rear camera, use 4:3 instead
No additional noise suppression for regular mode of rear camera
Image stabilization for photo mode of front camera not fully functional, video mode OK
Slow motion video has issues in low light
Low sharpness in panorama mode
Modded Google Camera 4.4.020 with HDR+ for Android 7.0 / ARM64 v1.2
Download
Changelog:
Fully implemented noise suppression for regular mode of rear camera
Burst mode for both front and rear camera

Thanks for keeping up with the updates. Seems to take a decent picture when the stock camera doesn't seem to capture the right lighting. Do you know if the 60fps will be included in these updated ones?? I keep having to switch back to that one when wanting a video. ?

i guess modify 4k to use as 2268p ? so 720p, 1080p and 4032x2268p.
2268p is better than 4k because you can use google photo's video stabilization on 2268p so it will give you stabilized 4k video.
@defcomg can help you enable 2268p on your device as well. (and many others) it needs a lib modification.

Working perfectly on Moto G5 Plus..
Thanks buddy..
does portrait mode works on moto g5 plus?
Hi @Arnova8G2, I've tried your latest mod on my Moto G5 plus (Pixel Experience 8.1.0). I've got focusing issues just like everyone else. But I managed to click some few good pictures in portrait mode(back camera) after lots of tries due to focusing issues.
Front Camera doesn't work for portrait mode. It just doesn't get clicked where as the normal front camera works but without focus.
I've attached my logcat below. If you could try to fix these issues it would be great for our G5 plus community. So far I'm in love with your mod. Thanks for making the impossible possible for us.

Fix the focussing issue @Arnova8G2 and front portrait mode too.
Thanks in advance.
For focussing issue you can disable HDR+ (via icon, not in settings) and enable Enhanced HDR+ again. Focus should work fine then.
It also applies (but not always) to portrait mode. Switch to normal mode, do a thing with disable/enable HDR+ and go to portrait mode again.
Sometimes it needs to be done more than one time. Thank you @Arnova8G2 for your work. Beside focusing issue I have one problem.
I cannot take photo withoud HDR+ (disabled via icon). When I press shutter, nothing happens. If you could do anything about it it would be great.

This can work on MOTO G5 (not plus) (cedric) with LOS 15.1 ARM64?
@Arnova8G2
Thanks for all your work so far.
Here's an unfiltered log:
https://hastebin.com/gekevohopi.rb
Fresh Pixel Experience 8.1 Install on an Moto G5 Plus XT1683, running the latest 1.4 build posted above.
It seems to try to focus once, but gets "stuck" somewhere when it's zooming/focusing out. It sometimes free itself and manages to focus good enough for a few moments (even responding to touch to focus), but it gets "stuck" again shortly.
How was this log captured:
I started matlog
Pressed Home, and went back to the home screen.
Pulled up the app drawer and opened GCMod5
Allowed every permission request
Camera opened. I let it try to autofocus for a while, but it fails shortly.
I try to tap to focus, but it doesn't work
I try to snap a picture anyway, but it crashes completely saying that "The camera driver found a fatal error".
App closes
I open Matlog and pause the log.
Some notes regarding the app:
Sometimes, it seems to regain the ability to focus after shooting a pic. It doesn't always focus correctly, however.
Sometimes it allows several pictures to be taken. Sometimes it fails with an error on the first shot.
It seems to regain focusing ability if you focus on a dark place then on a bright light source, such as a monitor. This doesn't last long.
I have a feeling that you cannot fix this issue on your own, as it might be an issue with the Camera3 driver blobs on this phone or something.
Let us know about any news regarding the focusing issue. Everything else seems to work but this, which mostly breaks everything else
Hello @Arnova8G2 .I have attached the camera2 test log over here as you mentioned earlier. Hope it's going to be of help. Thank you again for helping us out.
No problem anymore, thanks for the awesome apk!

Google Camera Port
by @Urnyx05
This is a thread where I share my GCams and you can report me bugs.
How to report bugs:
If possible, post on a thread for your phone or here if you can't find a thread for your phone. Please describe the issue and give details about your setup:
- Camera2 Test (included description)
- Phone, ROM, any fixes installed;
- Name of the apk you're using;
- Screenshots or video recordings of the bug if you're able to;
- A logcat if there's a crash (How to save a logcat: video guide, advanced guide);
- Steps to reproduce the bug/crash;
- Mention me;
- Your report will be ignored if no logs or a good explanation is provided.

Remember that it's still a porting, so it isn't as fast as the stock camera

When I open the app it just shows black screen, shutter button is not working.
Same in the case of portrait mode (black screen).
App crashes when switching to video.
Everything else is working fine except night sight.
Sorry I don't know how to take log.
Please Let me know if anything else required.

Works quite well on the Xperia X compact (unlocked bootloader, flashed to Omnirom by harryharryharry).
Issues I have noticed so far:
timelapse mode has a black viewfinder but does take slowed down videos
portrait mode refuses to take a picture with the front camera (the front camera does not have full camera2 api support on this device)
Overall, this is much better than the other ports I tried (some refused to start, others overheated the phone and didn't work)
Is there a way to set a custom resolution? In other ports this is handled by the xml profile, but I can't find anything similar in this app.

Adding some screenshots
Thanks mate. Just did some quick testing; seems to work flawlessly in photo mode. Will test others later.
Not sure if you're going to continue developing or not, but if so, would be awesome to see some changeable settings:
- Button to swap between f/1.5 and f/2.4 apertures
- Tone curve
- Wide front camera (not sure if this is even possible thanks to Samsung)
Appreciate it!
Is this suitable for s9plus? would the second camera be working?

@eoscylla cool bro, i wait your reply
Works well, but on my G960U *stock* model the camera preview on both front and back camera is slow, very low frame rate. Other than that, this is the best gcam that has ever worked for me.
Edit- this also includes portrait mode. I also noticed the autofocus is a bit weird when I comes to focusing on the object, it kinda jumps back and forth with the adjustment. Autofocus still functional though.
Been using on my snapdragon canadian S9 for a little while and I've had no issues. Thanks so much.

Hey buddy,
On my S9 in the slow motion mode I can swap from 1/4x to 1/8x but I can't swap back to 1/4x and when it does the app fc.

how to force the optical camera on GCam?
Thank you very much my dear, you have done an excellent job.
I have tried every way to understand the functioning of the camera with optical zoom in relation to the main sensor and discovered what determines the activation of camera 2x are the luminosity conditions, however did some tests to check a hypothesis.
The first test comprised obstructing the main sensor with applied zom 2x in the application of native camera and in an instant the optic sensor was triggered even with low luminosity.
The second test was to use the dynamic focus, therefore sensor 2x always remains worked without adding or decreasing the zoom.
My hypothesis is if it would be possible independent software hardware would be able to alternate from the main sensor for the sensor with optical zoom 2x, but esssa hypothesis is no logic, because the way dynamic focus force the use of optical sensor, then software yes can control the secondary sensor.
My question is; Is it possible that the Gcam forces the use of the sensor with optical zoom 2x, and that can be used it independently as an auxiliary camera?
The app says "No Storage Found" when clicking in the dark area to install the XML. Any ideas?

Google Camera Port
Moto G30
A thread to discuss the Google Camera port on this device (Moto G30).
According to reports on Telegram and Reddit, GCam 7 from Wichaya and Nikita works (any apk should work):
- GCam_7.3.018_Urnyx05-v2.1_Wichaya_V3.1.1
- NGCam_7.4.104-v2.0
GCam 8 also seems to work, at least versions from BSG:
If you're experiencing a green or pink tint, enable AWB (Auto White Balance). Simply swipe down in the viewfinder and you'll find the option there.
Explore the settings page to enable things like HDR controls (HDR+ Enhanced improves quality a lot), disable sounds, etc.
If you find a better version or have created a config, share it here to help other users!
Thanks for sharing
I'm using BSG: MGC on my Moto G30. Works fine.

Compatibility should be more or less the same across his GCam 8.x versions.
If you're asking which apk from that page, they're just different package names. Some brands need special package names to unlock all cameras, for example. The first one ("snap" or "snapcam") is often compatible with lots of phones. Different package names also means that you're able to have multiple GCams installed (no need to remove the one you already use, just install one with a different package name).
Regarding the picture preview, you might need the Google Photos app (no need to login) which is what GCam uses as gallery by default. But... I believe there's also a setting to use 3rd party galleries (check the settings). Keep in mind that not all gallery apps support GCam functionality (eg: motion photos) or handle the photo processing delay very well.
For video, as often happens, the stock camera app might be better when it comes to stabilisation. Some modes (eg: slow motion) have always been a problem with GCam too.
With this said... GCam 8 is still a bit behind GCam 7. The latest GCam isn't always the best GCam.

Does someone have a config for gcam on g30?
Do any of these gcams save to the sdcard ?
Hi guys, the NG-cam works great on my G30, but do you know a way to get the camera to use faster shutterspeeds? My gcam uses 1/30 too often, is there a way to default to 1/125s ??
