Hi everyone.
I have A3 2017 and the battery drain while charging. Any solution for this problem?

i have one to and it seems that the phone stops charging when it get hot and the drain starts ... try not to use it while it charges and see if it stil happens

I contacted samsung for this problem and they informed me that they will be issuing a patch to alleviate the problem soon, how soon they did not say.

Hi i have the A5 but i think soft is similar to same.
there is an option under maintance->right corner the 3 dots-> Fast charge and deactivate it, there is aswell written why you should do so, when battery get hot while charging...hello? this can not be good for the battery cells.. and with integrated one ....bad idea
My phone is 2 weeks new and battery holds only a day without usage, only display always on feature to get informed, because there is no more informing LED, i adjusted my brightness to auto and 25%... and as i browse today while waiting some around 6 to 9% went away in minutes...normal?

a3 doesnt support fast charge

problem solved
The problem was solved when a patch was released by samsung (last friday) and I applied it to my A3. Now everything is as before. One note however, I think Android 7 consumes more energy than the previous version.

Battery Sudden Drops

Dear all,
Recently my Note is facing a weird problem. While my son is playing a game, the battery drops 20-30% in 10 minutes. If I shut down the tablet and re-power then the battery goes to normal again.
In the battery stats I can see a huge drop during game usage and then up again on reboot.
I performed a factory reset but the same happens....
I flashed the Kit Kat via Odin.... but the same
Any ideas?
Drain the battery down to below 5% then charge it to 100 and it should be fine. It happened to me once and after a full charge after a full drain it never did it again

This is what worries me.
I drained the battery and charged it fully powered off. It did it again. I drained the battery and charged it fully powered on. It did it again.
If I'm using it for browsing, papyrus, images etc its fine. This happens only in games and when i reboot the battery percentage is ok again.

I had the exact same problem as you are describing but additionally, my overall battery life wasn't lasting as long as it should either. I ended up sending it to Samsung's repair center to get fixed. I'm not sure what they did but some other people on the forums suggested it was a motherboard issue.
So the capacity of the battery seemed just fine but the readings were crazy (dropping from 50 to 5 in minutes and then on reboot back on 50).
After 2-3 full cycles of charging nothing changed. Flashed fw nothing changed. Went to Samsung service and they just informed me that they changed the battery and now performing final checks.
Hope this will solve the issue. I'm too lucky that I am in the "6 months warranty" window for battery...
How does one go about sending it into Samsung? After getting it back, did you see a significant change?
I've been debating doing this but wasn't sure how to go about it.
I haven't got it back yet. They just called me and they said that apart from the battery, they need to change another part (the telephone operator didn't know which part) and I'm going to receive it tomorrow.
So I'll let you know once I receive it.

After trying everything (flashing different roms via odin, factory reset, full battery cycles etc) the problem never went away.
Went to Samsung service. They checked the battery and had to replace it.... within the warranty.
Same issue here. Just got an email saying its fixed. They changed the charging port and lcd. Weird that they replaced the lcd.
Well I got it back. Seems they broke the s pen function when taking it out or putting in. The tablet thinks it's always out of its slot. I guess another 2 weeks without this thing. What a pain in the ass. Times like this makes me wish I bought an ipad where I could just walk into the store and get it fixed that day.
I had the same problem. I sent it back on Monday and got it back 7 days later. They did not say what they changed, but now everything is working fine. I even got a new usb cable and a magnetic Germany flag
I sent mine in for an overheating problem and they changed the charging port and gave me a new cable. I initially also had the random drops in battery but seems to be better now.. They said bad voltage going to charging the battery or something. Still have overheating so gotta send it in again?

So guys did you get it fixed? I have exactly the same problem. I have sent it to fix at the sam service - they changed the charging port, but it didn't help anything. 1,5 years of normal usage and now I can pretty much throw it into the toilet. God damn POS!
Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 battery drops
Hello all,
Just wanted to inform you all that I have been experiencing these battery drops (yesterday from 93% to a mere 5% in a matter of minutes) for a very long time now. I am running under the latest 4.4.2 stock firmware.
Also, battery life is way below par (understatement !), where the Note sometimes drops to around or below 5% (the magic number below which the screen starts to dim pretty dramatically and there's no way to influence that)
Funny thing is that after the battery drops to below 5% or even 1 or 2%, it's still possible to use the tablet for quite a number of hours afterwards, which suggests it may be something with the logic estimating/determining the remaining battery capacity, rather than the battery itself....)
Now I've tried draining the battery and fully recharging it multiple times/ resetting the stats using free apps / revert to factory settings etc.
All to no avail unfortunately, this problem simply keeps coming back.
(By the way: Apart from the battery and battery life, the Note is an excellent device, and delivers as promised.
Please also note that charging it through the microUSB cable is also simple, stable and relatively fast, unless you compare it of course to my all new Samsung Galaxy Note 4, which has a superior fast charge mode and offers the highest possible battery-life at this moment and easily beats any other smartphone (including the usual suspects from that Cupertino-based firm of which I can't force my mind to remember the name of.....) in this price-quality and performance category )
As for warranty:
Battery is no longer under warranty, the device itself is.
As such, I will now get the battery replaced by a new Samsung OEM-battery first, and see if that resolves the issue.
If it doesn't help, I will send it in for repair for Samsung.
I will keep you all informed on the resolution and cause.
Likewise, if there's anyone that has gotten to the root cause of this issue, please let me / let us know
Some users reported some 'magic part' OTHER than the battery itself (motherboard / charging circuit or even the lcd ??) having been replaced by Samsung after sending it in for repair.
That information could be very valuable to us all in trying to get Samsung to resolve the issue, so I would really appreciate it if someone would share this info in this thread.
Hey I know that there hasn't been much activity on this particular thread, but i too have been experiencing this problem for over a year now. I sent it into samsung twice and it still never fixed the issue and by the time i was going to send it in the 3rd time it was out of warranty. I personally removed the back cover and unplugged the battery for a while and that did not help. I have tried flashing different ROMS and kernels to no avail until last week. I flashed Temasek's Unofficial Build found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...t/lt03wifi-temaseks-unofficial-build-t2980604 and after 3 full power cycles i have not had a single random drop yet i even managed to go 3 days with 6 hours of screen on time which is a record for me with this device. Not sure if it will help everyone but this seems to have solved my problem and i am thrilled! Also (as embarrassing as it is) i played 2.5 hours of Clash of Clans straight without a single random drop either.

I've successfully replaced the battery in the Note 10.1 2014, and it has improved things. With a little care, this is easy to do. Just removing the battery connector is a bit typical, you need to lift it carefully and slightly to remove it.
The result is not as drastic of an improvement as I would like to have seen, but at least the sudden drops in battery capacity percentage seem to be under control now.
I am doing a video test now, and will see how it behaves and let you know.

Very curious to hear if replacing the battery corrected this issue. I've been experiencing this same battery drop issue for 2 or 3 months and the unit is well outside of warranty. Hoping there's a simpler fix, but willing to replace the battery if that will work since the tablet itself is still a great unit.
Complete factory reset should clear the Android Coulometer's data base or learning algorithm. Just clearing options of Battery Monitor Widget for rooted devices won't help. There are some other apps, which seem to help if the charge level never reaches 100%, a related, but not identical problem.
I have an old tablet suffering from this, with a tweaked custom rom, and i didn't want to clear and setup that completely. The algorithm or database is "learning" again, and the capacity jumps have become fewer and smaller over the last months. It should depend on how long the device was used and never reset before the incident. In my case over a year.
Itvs much like my cars fuel calculator, which won't work correctly during traffic light stops. Right after starting the engine, fuel consumption can raise several liters/h, when the car don't drive, as it uses the last sampled value(every 30 meters). And you need several kilometers to drive to have these levels drop to realistic ones again. While after a long driving distance, a traffic light stop will hardly have an influence.

Battery drain while powered off and on-Please help!

New here and new to Android. I'll try to make this as brief as possible:
Two weeks ago I purchased a used "refurbished" Galaxy Tab S 8.4 with Lollipop installed. I very much wanted to try to make the slow but gradual switch from iOS and thought this would be a good place to start.
Battery life is horrendous compared to iPad. Here is the issue broken down:
Powered on. Battery drains at the rate of 1 percent an hour in standby.
Powered OFF. Battery drains at the rate of 1 percent an hour.
Powered on and using for web, video, etc (no games). Battery drains at the rate of ~10 percent every 15 minutes or so.
What I've done:
Wifi OFF except when in use
Location services OFF
Sync OFF
Bluetooth OFF
Screen at just below 50 percent
Wakelock detector finds some activity (mostly Android battery "WLAN" monitor stuff)
Did full restore
Most importantly: I REPLACED THE BATTERY WITH A BRAND NEW ONE and am seeing nearly identical drains as I did with the stock battery that was two years old
I have scoured the internet, rooted the device to try to kill any rogue activity, and "reseated" the battery connector 3 times.
Can anyone tell me WHY this battery is losing one percent an hour while completely powered off?
One clue is that, with everything turned off (listed above) the battery drain is nearly identical when off as it is when it is "sleeping" which would indicate...well, something.
I'm frustrated that I have been focused on fixing this issue rather than enjoying my "new" Tab S.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar battery drain (when the device was off) 1.5 years ago with my couple of months old tablet. Had to take it to warranty repair twice, on the second attempt they changed the battery connector and the power circuit (if I remember correctly), and that was enough to fix the problem.
If the tablet drains the battery while completely off, it's clearly a hardware issue.
I'm thinking hardware has to be the culprit too, at this point. Very frustrating as this is a used tablet and out of warranty. I have done everything possible to try and get decent battery life out of this thing to no avail. I'm loving android but have a bad taste in my mouth as to their hardware. Should I keep or just get a couple hundred bucks on ebay? I'd be thrilled with this if the battery life came anywhere near the iPad mini.
The 8.4" is known for having a problem with the battery connector (maybe flexing of the case makes it loosen), some people have soldered the battery wires directly to the motherboard and say it fixed the problem, Samsung knows there is a problem with the battery connector according to some service centers, one service center actually fitted a more heavy duty connector to fix one problem according to what i read.

I've been using this Tab S since July 2014 and been very pleased of it.
I only use it every night for Web browsing or watching movies.
Not any games or any social network or anything draining the battery.
Average autonomy was around 7 to 8 hours.
9 months ago it has started to drain a little bit more and especially when off (totaly off, not in sleep mode)
Before that event I was turning it off at night and 24 hours later the battery level was exactly the same. (zero percent of drift)
Then it started to suck a little bit every day: 1%, 2%, 3% each 24 hours when completly OFF.
First thing I've done was to make a wipe cache/data and restore to factory settings from recovery mode.
It didn't help.
Then Samsung released Lolipop Upgrade so I did it.
It didn't help any more.
So I ordered a new battery to an official dealer and replaced it.
You know the answer.... didn't help.
Then Marshmallow has come and I did it.
.... idem.
So as electronics and automation technician I am, I decided myself to do some measurements.
I opened the Tab S and checked battery voltage when off every hour with a high accuracy Fluke D.M.M.
And I found that it was loosing ~34mV every 24 hours, which makes the 3% loss.
(Boring calculations just for knownledge : LiPo Vmax 4350mV - LiPoVmin 3200mV = 1150mV corresponding to 100% capacity.)
First thing I did after that was to make the same check but with battery disconnected to the Tab S.
And you know what? not even a mV drained in 24 hours when not connected to Tab S PC Board!
Then I measured the resistance between + and - socket on the PC board : value between 800KOhms and 1,2MOhms.
Same values when I crossed the wires.
Theses values are too low, I should have found many many MOhms.
I've also checked the battery connector that some other guys said it was loosy or bad soldered: that's not the case but I've soldered it.
same problem.
MY CONCLUSION: it's a hardware problem.
Maybe it's a drifting component, probably a capacitor which as lost insulation, or a defective diode.
Unfortunately I don't have the diagrams of this Tab S and can't diagnose it.
Is there on XDA any guy from Samsung Tech Support who can help me?

i had the same issue Android – Marshmallow Android – Lollipop etc battery life sucks on the upgrades.. The battery would not last more than 3/4 hours, it was a pure joke. Best thing is to downgrade to KitKat XXU1ANF8 since my downgrade battery easily last a few days of heavy use.

Galaxy A3 poor battery life

I've tried absolutely everything; from changing my WiFi settings to disabling almost every built-in app. Even when the screen is off my battery drains at almost 5% an hour, regardless of whether AOD is turned on or off. It doesn't seem to make a difference whether I'm using WiFi or HSDPA either.
I'm unable to post any links, so no screenshots unfortunately. Android OS is utilising 24% and screen is at 18%. My battery usage graph is at a 45° angle: Not the nice, relatively flat line that you would expect to see.
If anyone could shed some light on this for me I would greatly appreciate it, as I'm on the verge of smashing this POS with a 4 pound hammer.
It almost sounds like it's something wakes up the phone a lot during deepsleep or something.
Try to install wakelock detector from play. Maybe it can give a hint of what's draining the battery.

I'm having the same problem and i think it's becuse of the new update i installed recently. On the January build(with the January security patches) I had way better battery life. Attached a screenshot so you can see the new build number. Do you think if I revert to the old firmware this will be fixed?

I also thought of that but unfortunately I haven't rooted it yet because it's still fairly new and I'm not sure if I may have to return it or not. I might just have to root so I can try get to the bottom of it.

Ok so I installed GSAM and it's reporting that my screen is using 61%, even though my screen brightness is set to almost as low as it can go. It's used 18 percent in just over 2 hours. Can you confirm if this is normal? Also I noticed that Android OS stay awake is at over 11 hours. Seems a bit much to me. I'm thinking I should just root it so I can do some proper diagnostics.

If you do not mind losing the warranty, do root. But I would first make the factory reset and have done testing without installing any other applications.

I have a serious problem with a used A5 (2017) I got from some friends. The battery life is abysmal. I already changed the battery and it didn't change anything.
It is running on Android 8 Oreo. The most serious problem, I think, is that the phone even discharges when it's powered off. I tried using the latest hadesrom, but it didn't changed a thing. Lifetime is around 12hours, doesn't matter if I run some apps or just let it lie around in standby. I tried factory rests and some battery saving apps... nothing works. Is there any way to get better battery life? Thanks in advance!

You could try the naptime app. But I don't think my battery life is any better than yours.
The a5 2017 has a famously good battery life.
I am not a heavy user - make and get few calls and mainly use it for receiving emails and a few texts plus a bit of web browsing.
Occasionally listening to podcasts.
3 days battery life is easy for me - reckon I could get 5 days if I just left it sitting quietly.
If it's going flat quickly even when switched off, it sounds like a fault somewhere.
Don't know what else to tell you.

I never tried letting it sit, but if I just left mine alone it would last for days too. But if I am gaming on it, it will go down to around 50 percent at noon.
wow - 3 days life battery!! I can hardly get to 2 days, without heavy us - but I would never try to change the battery -> sounds too complicated
One thing that is worth looking at is the Always on Display (AOD).
I found it sucks a lot of power despite the claims that it 'doesnt use much'. It seemed to use around 1% an hour - I guess thats around a quarter of your battery in a day. So unless you find it useful either turn it off - or set it on a schedule for when you actually want it to be on.
Battery life is always sujective and depends on what your phone is doing - gaming will burn through a battery like nothing else.

1 percent an hour doesn't matter to me lol. I am a heavy user so I charge every day anyway.

Question Horrible battery and slow charging on Pixel 6 Pro

I've had the phone for about 2 weeks. The battery life is horrible. I leave the phone charging over night and sometimes it stops charging all together. Last night I went to bed with 100% charge. Left phone laying on night stand. Woke up to 70% battery after 8 hours of doing nothing. Mobile network standby used 42% of my battery drain. What is going on with this phone? Should I get a warranty claim replacement?
edit: 11/30 Turning off Adaptive battery and Adaptive charging helped. However, still getting a replacement phone. I get no signal pretty much any where. Thought maybe it was because Tmobile network. After a few days of troubleshooting the phone and getting new sim card and esim, I literally get 1mbps downloads if any connection at all. On Pixel Reddit many others are saying their P6P is getting no data, seems to be a modem issue?
Check in the settings if "adaptive charging" is enabled. I believe it is by default.
This feature attempts to sync up your overnight charge with the time you wake up.
If it's miscalculating when you wake up, it might not be charging enough. It should eventually learn when you do wake, assuming it's the same time, etc.
But you can just switch it off completely and allow the phone to charge as it normally would.
As far as mobile network standby goes, I'm not sure. I've noticed in the past this is usually because little to no cell service, so the phone is trying very hard to find a signal (boosting more power to that internal module) and thus draining battery more. Do you have poor service where you sleep?
Factory reset and when ask to transfer data from another phone. Don't. You may have a rogue app.
I also have a high usage on "Mobile Network Service" but doesn't seem to affect my battery much. My overnights drain on my P6P are 5% max.
Battery charging is slow but my P6P has phenomenal battery. Set it up from scratch like I always do with a new phone.
Battery charging is definitely slower than my Galaxy Note20 Ultra, but I like the adaptive charging at night. If you set an alarm, it will trickle charge and reach 100% just before. This will prolong battery life but I think the standard charge could be a bit faster. 65W like OnePlus probably does more harm than good in the long run but a true 30W shouldn't be an issue.
the latest update doesnt fix battery drain... update ending 037... although the fingerprint sensor is better
Not another nitpick on the Pixel thread. My battery life is good, nothing lasts forever.

Did you check whether you use adaptive charging?
It's designed to let the phone fully charge ONLY shortly before you wake up (set wakeup timer).
I mean, it never properly worked for me, but maybe it does for you. Lol.
My Battery life is fantastic! I have adaptive battery on. When it's at it takes about 20 min of hard use to even move from 100 to 99. I have no idea why yours does that but I'm beginning to think these are trolls because so far my p6 pro is a powerhouse. Works amazing. I love this phone. Every other dam post is complaint after complaint. Even crappy phones on other forums don't get this kind of grief. Google probably over hyped the phone and people are annoyed that they had to wait to get one or it's a massive drive by Samsung to tone down the sales of Google.......Too bad Samsung won't just allow bootloader unlock to be easy and painless. Otherwise I wouldn't BE Loving my p6 pro.....
As others have pointed out, adaptive charging is supposed to slow the charging down so it hits 100% within the hour of your alarm to wake up. You can actually see it say adaptive charging on the always on display at the bottom of it's engaged. But not hitting 100% isn't what it's supposed to do. What charger are you using with it?

That's not actually a good thing unless each point takes the same amount of usage. This actually suggests that the battery level is poorly calibrated.

People here asked you many questions to find out of it's a user mistake/problem, or if the phone is the rootcause of the issue.
You answered not one single question (as of now).
So it's fair to assume that you are a troll.

If it's miscalculating when you wake up, it might not be charging enough. It should eventually learn when you do wake, assuming it's the same time, etc.
But you can just switch it off completely and allow the phone to charge as it normally would.
As far as mobile network standby goes, I'm not sure. I've noticed in the past this is usually because little to no cell service, so the phone is trying very hard to find a signal (boosting more power to that internal module) and thus draining battery more. Do you have poor service where you sleep?

I'll try turning off adaptive battery and charging. I read some saying the adaptive battery isn't working right even after days of "calibrating." And the adaptive charging is new to me, turning that off also to test for a couple days.
I have tmobile and the entire area from my home to work is covered in 5G. Was working great on my S20+ for a couple days until I got the Pixel 6 Pro. I went to tmobile store yesterday. They gave me a new SIM and checked their system. I'm literally about 1000 feet from a 5G tower. They showed me a calendar supposedly they've been working in the area and having intermittent service issues, doesn't explain why I get no signal all day.
I've factory reset the phone and didn't copy over anything from my old phone, seeing if that will help.

I'm currently trying out Adaptive Battery off for the next week just to see if there's a noticeable difference. I'll be tracking it with AccuBattery Pro and took a screenshot of my a averages before turning it off.

I remember talks back in the days when it was introduced (Android Pie, Pixel 3 I think) and already then people claimed to improve their battery life by "turning that **** off" - it would be a bit devastating to know that Google still hasn't fixed that.

Wow it has been that long since it was first introduced. Time flies. Just on day one right now and I'm already seeing more screen off drain. Will see how every turns out next week.
Return it.
May be a battery failure in progress.
While many Androids can be battery hogs until they sorted out, all should charge normally with a known good brick and cable.

Hi. I'm typing this answer form my new P6P as Google decided to replace my old device. I set up my phone from scratch without transfering anything from old device AND THE ISSUE IS STILL THERE. Insanely high network standby battery drain +25% of the whole capacity. This is nuts. The employee told me specifically that I won't have this problem with my new device. I don't know what to do. I think I'll just return it and to for a different phone. Btw my partner has a non-pro P6 and he has exactly the same issue. Our sim cards are vodafone.de. Lost count how many hours I was trying to fix this problem. What a time waster.

Good luck, hopefully the factor reset fixes whatever was going haywire. Usually that does help people as a last resort effort
