Not with SEUS or OTA from Sony Ericsson, it wil brick your phone. But you can flash the official whit flashtool, when ICS official comes for the arc
If you relock your bootloader you can update with SEUS again. Shouldn't cause any problems

But why unlock your bootloader if don't want to use costom ROMs of kernels? Whit unlocked bootloader and costom rom, or kernel, you can't update whit OTA or SEUS. And when you relock the bootloader you must first flash back to stock, or you will brick your phone to, when relocking your bootloader whit costom kernels.
HOW

Remember, when you unlock the official way, you lose your DRM, and when you relock it again you don't get back your DRM.

[Q] Quick question about bootloader and updates

Hi all.
With the next ICS Update for the Xperia Play out soon, and me really badly wanting to try out the KA12 Ice Cream Sony ROM (I'm on TEAM Stock, which is based on stock so no bootloader unlock needed)
I can unlock it, but I was wondering if I would be able to update to official ICS when it comes out through flashing the zip when someone decides to dump the ROM on here?
Thanks!
The ROM most Likely wont be Dumped only Become a Flashable .FTF but if your very Clumsy dont unlock as you may spill or have a mishap
Ah and how easy is it to flash the .FTF?

Flashing .FTF is easy, also if you unlock bootloader, aslong as you dont delete any apps from /system/ you can relock bootloader and update using SEUS anytime.

Verizon bootloader relock

I've unlocked my verizon xl's bootloader on the october update and I was wondering if it could be re-locked by any means other than fastboot? like an OTA for example or a ROM flash or an official image flash, etc. Do I have to watch what I flash to my phone or am I safe?

No worries. They can't relock your phone with a software update or upgrade.

Great. Can I inadvertently lock it with a full factory image flash though?

It shouldn't affect updates.
However, if you're not on stock recovery, you will not get ant OTA updates. You'll need to go back to stock recovery for updates.

There are valid reasons to lock your bootloader, but it shouldn't be done with unofficial software (a Custom ROM).
When the bootloader is locked, only signed software is allowed to boot, so only official ROMs can boot.
