Hi there, first of all I've seen some other threads which kind of have the same problem but not quite. So here is my problem my touch screen isn't responding most of the time, it started happening like a week ago when it froze while trying to send a picture in messenger, after 1-2 reboots it started working again but after that the same thing happened while I was typing in messenger, so I thought it might be software problem and made hard reset and installed new stock android(that didn't help). The last couple of days most of the time it's not working and I'm using it with a mouse, but there are periods when it works for some time. I've entered the hidden menu(without updating the touch firmware because I saw that it might kill it for good) to try and test it and had 2 different results
- The touch screen firmware version on my phone is -1
- And the one from the photos that I've attached(obviously during this one it actually worked for a couple of minutes)
Something else I've noticed while the touch isn't working when I turn off the screen from the power button first it dims the light for 2 seconds before really turning off.
Other things that I've tried are changing kernel, opening the back of the phone and reconnecting the screen to the motherboard(which helped the first time and it worked for 1 day or so but doesn't help since then) .
There is one more strange thing for some time now may be 3-4 months the phone has problems connecting to WiFi)
And one last thing after the screen problem the phone started booting quite slow some times and showing "Process System Not Responding'"
The phone is running on Stock V30b MM and hasn't been dropped for a long time
The problem is that I don't know is it software problem, screen problem or motherboard so any Ideas will be appreciated.

This issue began about 2 days ago, i noticed every once and again the home button would not respond but i figured its just a glitch or something. It got worse and worse till the point i am now, both the home and back button wont respond at all, earlier today they would work randomly and not often ,ive rebooted it ,reseted it 3 times, but the problem remains. I did not root it, or install any dubious software. i dropped the phone once,about a week ago from my hands,no scratches and it worked fine after that. Im really dissapointed about this, can anyone offer any advice?Thanks
anyone had problem with the screen not responding after waking up?
There's no way to turn off the phone / make it respond unless to unplug the battery and plug it in again. Had this problem on the first GN and my second replacement GN.
Yep, happened to me the other day as well. There was a crash right before which made the phone reboot. Once it came back, the hardware buttons responded fine but the touchscreen was dead until a battery pull.
Hasn't happened since though.
Had this at lunch today also had it a few days ago.
When returning from sleep the touch input seems to be completely unresponsive.
I left mine for a while to see if it recovered, it did, it came up with the crash report for "System Process" The screen was then responding fine.
Weird. This is indeed different to the sleep of death, because the screen comes on.
Although maybe it's related in some way?
This just happened to me, and so I googled to find an answer. It thankfully led me here. It's like you guys described: I just tried unlocking my phone, but the screen was completely unresponsive. Not a single touch would register, even when trying to touch the Power Off option.
I read robaldred's comment, so I decided to try the waiting game. Thankfully, after a few minutes the screen just came on and the device was ready to use. I don't believe I saw a crash report though.
I hope this won't become a serious issue. I'd hate to be stranded at a point when I need to use my phone.

I had this exact problem and I found it was due to Juice Defender (I have the Ultimate version as well). It kept happening after I installed and but since removing it over a week ago no problems.
Just had it happen here, had to pull batt. Using BatteryXL but will keep it on and see if it happens again.
This is something very peculiar I'm experiencing. I got the desire a few months ago, rooted it, and I'm fine with S-Off. Now the peculiar thing's that a couple of days ago, I was watching a movie on my phone, and it was working fine, when suddenly the screen blackened. It wont turn on even when I tried the power button. I was devastated until at night I tried to turn on the screen again, and my room was dark, and I noticed that there was a flickering of light in the screen, and I could detect all my icons. The touch was working all right too. I started to slightly tap my phone, and this turned it on after a few tries. But the problem's that it keeps on doing so (blacking out) every hour or so of use, and I love playing Chess at level 10. Can someone help with this??? I'm sure this is a hardware related prob, cuz I tried every software and app things.

Have you checked the screen timeout settings in settings/display & gestures? That's the most likely possibility.
It's not a timeout problem for me.
My timeout settings are at one minute or more and the screen will blank on me in the middle of active use. If I tap the power button repeatedly (the number of times required varies, but it takes fewer if the taps are spaced by a second or so), the screen will come back on, but more often than not, the screen will black again immediately (i.e. in the middle of the unlock process). The screen blacks, but remains responsive to touch. If I tap where a button was before pressing the power button, when I can see again, the app (or launcher screen) has changed accordingly. The problem has gotten more frequent, to the point that my phone is almost unusable as of yesterday afternoon.
I have tried a factory reset as of this morning, which didn't remove the problem. My battery seems to be OK. I'm still getting roughly the same battery life I've always had. I'm stuck, and I'm not finding abundant references to it anywhere, so any help would be appreciated.
A brief history of my interaction with this problem: I bought the phone used about 3 months ago. about 3 weeks in, the blanking problem started to appear, but only in landscape mode apps (games). This was not frequent until about a month ago, when it started becoming more frequent and affecting everyday activity, not just games. About 3 weeks ago, I started having problems with image persistence (which may not be relevant, but I'm not sure either way). Yesterday afternoon it started blanking repeatedly. Restarting the phone had helped in the past, but not this time. Leaving the phone shut down for 2-3 hours also failed.
I am getting very frustrated, and I really like this phone.
Please help, if anyone can.

Hello everyone, I just recently got a G3 and it was working fine for the 1st 2 days, no issues. I was sending a text to a friend earlier today and after it sent, it completely froze. After doing a soft reset it took forever to boot up. Once it booted up, it seemed to be fine. about an hour of operation, the screen looked as if it was freezing because it wasn't recognizing any of my touches. i decide to flip the phone sideways to see if it was actually frozen but it changed to landscape just fine. Sometimes it comes back to life then goes off again shortly after, and other times, i have to soft reset. I've tried the following to no avail.
Took the phone apart and cleaned both connectors.
Re-flashing the rom.
Trying 4 other roms.
Returned to lollipop stock.
I can't figure this out for the life to me and worked my ass of to be able to buy this phone. Any help would be appreciated as I can't afford to spend any more money on it!
I also have this issue, it's been ongoing for a few weeks. There will be short periods where it can work just fine, then it just freezes up and does not register any inputs. The content on the screen continues to run as if nothing happened (videos and games keep playing). Turning the screen off, waiting a couple minutes, then turning it on can sometimes give me another minute of use until it freezes up again. Also of note, when the screen is unresponsive and I press the power, it will dim to very low levels for a few seconds before going fully black. When the screen is being responsive and I press the power, it goes straight to black, as is normal and expected. From my testing, I've concluded:
1. This issue is not app dependent. It can occur at any time, and is not caused by alarms or overlays, such as blue light filters.
2. The issue is not from the specific battery I use. I've switched out between multiple batteries and used different chargers, none seem to affect the frequency of freezes.
3. Temperature may have something to do with this. When waking the phone after it's been sitting out in the cold, there seems to be a higher likelihood that it will be unresponsive. This is not always the case, which makes concluding that the issue is hardware related difficult, but some correlation seems to exist.
4. This issue started occurring shortly before I began having the popular "SIM Card Removed" issue, which I've yet to resolve (though can sometimes get the SIM card to work)
I am running stock 6.0 D85030p AT&T. I will post here again if I figure something out, but I have been trying for weeks without much success.
