Thanks a lot for the tutorial! Just had a small doubt, can i copy the rom zips after wiping internal and flash? Or is it mandatory to use a sd card? I usually dont use sd card, so asking.

You can copy to internal storage

@mohancm I followed the steps exactly as mentioned here, did everything from scratch, even tried factory reset, but still can't get to detect internal storage. Settings shows that there is Internal Shared storage, even in recovery internal storage can be accessed. But only in system can't access it, used 3rd party file managers also.

Yes. Format All + Download. All partitions selected. Settings shows that there is a internal shared storage. Recovery also detects. But while in system, any file manager doesn't work.
Btw, installed from sd card. Didnt copy anything to internal during installation. Still same thing happens. If any logcat or bootlog will help i will send it. Thank you.

Use nvram and nvdata backup of mohancm. But you'll need your own IMEI for sim to work. Follow this for custom ROM.

This might help. Take backup before doing anything. For stock rom use Maui Meta 3g

Well, if you have time and patience, do it again from the first.
This time don't wipe internal storage, copy gapps to internal storage and flash from it. (While flashing ROM)
Try this and tell me if it works or not

Delete the PC10IMG off of your SDcard....
And you're posting in the wrong section. This is for DEVELOPMENT.
sorry... can i move this?
how can i remove that .zip file, only with an mini sdcard convertor to my laptop?
If you have adb set up then type:
adb reboot recovery
this will reboot your phone into recovery and then you can flash a backup or a new rom to boot up.
hope this helps and good luck!

Could always just boot into your ROM and USB mass storage then remove it. Or take the card out and put it in a PC and delete it.
Or if you have the SDK you can /adb rm <file> . or /adb reboot recovery .
thnx for the fast replys and the feedback!!

After wiping everything you rebooted with nothing in your /system, /boot, /data partitions so how can you expect to see anything except a white screen.
Its not written anywhere in the guide to reboot at the 2nd step.
Delete PC10IMG.zip from your sdcard as suggested above and reboot into recovery via bootloader.
And follow the steps exactly as stated.

Why did you post your question in this thread? - it has NOTHING to do with Android Development!!!
Next time post/ask in the General Questions thread if you have issue like this.
P.S. Run Rom Manager and download/run Virtuous ril Automatcher to fix ril issue.
You better delete or move this thread asap before the ROM Mistress finds this or you will get a nice infraction
sorry for misplacing the thread,
but your suggestions doesnt solve my problem, as soon i match the ril with the latest radio, dataconnection doesnt work anymore
if i goto the APN settings, i get an error about missing sim card
so only an older radio with older ril works
or the latest radio with older ril works also, but not that good...
doesnt mather if i use ril matcher or manual overwrite...
dont use ril matcher for me it just bugs out everything, which is also why the thread was closed..
Make sure you have the right radio for your area. Some areas don't like certain radios. Also, its better to have a T-mobile us radio for the G2 and the Desire Z with the other ones.
When you wipe all data and system, you've wiped the rom off the Phone so expect it NOT to start up to anything but that white screen.
Make sure you always remove the PCIMG w.e folder at all times if youre not a adb user ,to get to the recovery . Common sense, place it in a memory card slot for your computer or some other device and just delete it.
And yeah, you should've posted this in the Q&A section.
Good luck.

Can't mount ROM in TWRP

Hi Everyone,
Recently wiped the KF of all data and am trying to get a ROM back on the device. I managed to get the ROM loaded into the /system folder on my KF, but when I try to mount I get the error:
"unknown volume for path [/ics.zip]" followed by "Can't mount /ics.zip"
Any help would be appreciated.
So you are trying to flash a new rom? Because I'm not sure what "mounting a rom" is

The method of flashing a rom place rom zip and gapps zip on your sd card make a backup in twrp then go to wipe wipe factory reset wipe cache wipe dalvik wipe system go to install flash rom zip flash gapps zip then reboot select system if prompted
It appears that in my frustration I did not explain the predicament well. Basically, in TWRP you can click "install," find your ROM, and flash from there. I've done this several times before, running both ICS and JB successfully. I wanted to wipe the data from the KF so I could sell it, accidentally deleting my clean backup in the process. Now, after pushing a ROM to the device through ADB, I get the aforementioned error when trying to flash a ROM through TWRP. Please let me know if anything else isn't clear about my question; I could really use some help!

Thank you! I don't remember reading about this critical piece of information during previous installations, but then, I never had to manually push a ROM to the hardware on a blank system before. Pushing the ROM to the sdcard worked like a charm.

[Q] Internal Memory Full

I have recently rooted, installed CWM & CM10.1 -- The problem I have is now my internal SD is close to being full, but I havent installed anything on it yet besides a couple apps and some pictures.. Total Internal memory was 16GB.
When I go to Setting > Storage - its shows I have 12.5 GB of total space, but only about 1 GB available.. It shows apps and other things on the phone such as - APS 293MB, Pictures 550MB etc.. But added up it only amounts to maybe 3GB.. So I seem to be missing 13GB of space..
What I think may have happened (and I dont know how to fix) is.... Is it possible that I did the back up of my stock rom & titanium back ups etc.. all onto my internal SD card ? I didnt back anything up to an external drive or my PC, becasue the instructions I followed did tell to do that, nor how to do that.
So if that is the case I would like to extract those file from the SD card on my phone to creat some more room ?
Thanks.
Even if you did backup everything to the internal sd, a cwm backup is usually about a gig and I have 100 and change titanium backups and it also takes up about w gig so I don't think that is the problem. You should be able to hook it up to your PC and check the folder sizes on your SD card. You can also move the clockwork mod folder and TB folders to your external sd but you will need to set up the new location in TB's preference s option. If all else fails backup everything and copy all pics vids downloads and everything else you want to your PC or external SD, and wipe everything from your phones settings menu. This will wipe all data and game data too so be careful to get everything off it you want. Oh yea, make sure you have sync'd or backup up your contacts. That's a pain in the ass.
I had a problem like that when I first got my s3 last year and for me it was 2 files in the lost folder that were like 5 gigs each
hmmm......
Would it have anything to do with when after I rooted and was installing CWM and the new ROM.. It said for me to back up and save my old original ROM/configuration.. Which I did select back up.. But I didnt save it to my PC, I believe it just saved to my phone somewhere.. If I may need that someday I should likely save it correct ? Can someone give me an idea how to access those files so I can transfer off my phone ?
Maybe that is the problem ?
I don't recall ever seeing that option but it was awhile ago. You could try grabbing a root explorer and look around for a large folder. Es file manager for example. I kept my stock backup for awhile but never needed it. You can always find a stock image to reflash with Odin but I'm paranoid and keep at least one cwm backup in case. You could reflash the ROM you put on when you rooted and choose not to select backup this time. It will clear the phone so as above be sure to transfer or save anything you want. Get a little bit used to the process of backing up apps and reinstalling them when you switch roms cause these devs are awesome and always have new features to try. It goes pretty quick after you do it a thousand times. What ROM are you currently using?
---------- Post added at 08:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:02 PM ----------
There is a free app called storage analyser in the play store. I didn't try it but it looks like it will break down what is stored and where. Could help in this situation. Your internal SD should pop up on the computer so if the problem is in there you shouldn't need a root explorer to find that. If its not in there maybe to a cwm backup to external sd and flash something new.

I have only flashed once.. Using a tutorial from XDA, I rooted using ODIN, I installed CWM v6.0.3.0. followed by flahsing CM10.1 Rom. (10.1 -20130414-nightly-d2att)
During the tutorial it said I should back up my existing stock ROM incase I ever want to go back, so from CWM I seleced back up/restore then selected back up. It didnt tell me how to find this file and save to my PC or somewhere safe.. so is it possible that there are a bunch of files still on my S3 that I cannot see from just plugging it into my pc ?
I would really like to do this properly and remove everything from my S3 and just start with a fresh ROM again.. and know that what I need to have backed up was done properly onto my PC or somewhere other than my phones SD card. pls help = )
I just remembered a problem I ran into while performing the above steps.. I dont know exactly what happened but I think the version of CWM may have been old.. so I tried to update or install a newer version (followed another tutorial) is there a change there is the old version still on SD card ?

Yes I do have one I can install. (2GB) would you be able give me a list of the steps on how to do this properly ? (or link to a post that does)
Also, I do find I ejoy the CM10.1, is the verion I have one that I should be running or is there a standard version ?
If you enjoy cm10, stick with it. I'm on tasks 4/23 release and its running beautifully
Place the rom and gapps on the sd card, get what you want off the phone and you should be all set.
Check out the link in my signature for more information on flashing. when you format /system, also format /data + media.
Before you begin, go in rom manager and update your cwm recovery. Latest is 6.0.3.1. Or download the one at the bottom of post #2 in my signature link and flash it in cwm (then advanced > reboot recovery to have it take effect before flashing the rom).

Ok, I got CWM updated to 6.0.3.1, I backed up apps with TB and saved file to ext SD and got all my pics/vids transferred as well.. Now I just have a couple questions.
1) When I originally backed up my stock ROM in CWM it would have saved to my phones internal SD correct ? Because I could never find it. I just did a back up again and I plug phone into PC and cant find that one either ? Where would the be going ?
2) Can you link me to a good version of CM10.1 for my model as well as the proper google apps.. I cannot locate.
Thanks.
If you backed up to your internal sd card then the location should be something like storage/titaniumBackup. Inside that folder would be an oddly dated folder with all the contents. Transfer that to your computer as well.
Cm10 and the respective gapps are in the original android development section. You can also find their stable and nightly releases on their website. Be sure to only use the ROMs for your device model

Ok I just installed new ROM and now its worse, now I have less internal room.
Here are the steps I have followed.. (obviously its not wiping my entire internal SD right ?)
- Wipe Data / Factory Reset
- Wipe Cache Partition
- Advanced --> Wipe Dalvik Cache
- Mounts / Storage - Format System
- Install Zip from SD --> CM10 file.
Once phone boots up, I go to Settings --> Storage - Here it says I have only 2.6GB of space available and I have absolutely nothing on my phone yet, fresh install.
Am I missing a step ?
Thanks.

Titanium Backup cannot write on external SD card

Hi, guys. I have stock rom, unlocked bootloader, rooted and TWRP recovery. Unforunately, I cannot set Titanium Backup to use my external SD card. It said It's not writeble. Rom version is 1.54. I've try to format the card few times, but no luck. No problem for camera app to save pictures there, only TB have this issue. Any suggestions?

You will also need system write protection off to keep that, so would recommed via that recovery.
You can also push the file manually
adb shell
mount /system
push platform.xml /system/etc/permissions/
Doesn't work. I tried to change Platform.xml, but after reboot it's going back to previous state.
Do it from recovery.
Sdfix app worked for me

HTC does not allow writing to the /system partition unless from recovery. To disable this, flash a kernel w/ the protection disabled http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705613 Or you can manually install this module: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701816 After installing either of these, you can use any app posted above to gain write access to external sd.
(FYI the writing to sd card was disabled by google in recent versions of kitkat for all devices)

Tried all that, but even tho titanium reckons that sdcard2 is writable (don't get the red no write message) as soon as I try to back something up I get a not enough storage space error message (and yes I have enough space, over 11GB on external card.)

Hi there.
I also tried your's and many other steps.
In the end it was a simple thing for me.
Went: >Settings>Storage>standard storage>choose "sdcard"
That's it.
After a restart, ii was not even necessary to choose sdcard in TB.
Changed to it itself.

I downloaded SDFIX from the play store, reboot, when back to titanium backup, hit menu, general, go down to backup location, press the back button until you see mnt section, click on it, you'll see external sd, click on it, create folder & boila!! Hope it works for you

This worked for me Thanks.

Another fix for anyone else having trouble.
Nothing above worked for me. It was frustrating when all other relevant apps could write to the extsd card including file explorer programs.
Anyway loaded Xsense (Xposed) module which has a setting "RW to extSD card", ticked it, rebooted and bingo. Backing up to extSD card as I'm typing this.

Boot your device manually to twrp recovery
Go to wipe - there click on format data - click yes - confirm to format data. After it is done, reboot device.

If you want to remove lockscreen related password or any other pin go to TWRP > File Manager > You have to delete locksettings.db in data->system

Oh! Sorry, I thought you asked for how to remove lockscreen pin or password. If you want to remove screenpin which is because your device is encrypted you have to remove encryption by wiping data from TWRP, there is an option in TWRP to wipe data only you just have to select wipe data option and type 'yes' without the quotation mark. Hope you understand.

I had the same issue. To solve it, just backup ur essential stored photos and stuffs somewhere. Then all you have to do is goto to TWRP,
Just enter with your normal lockscreen password(
maybe a myth but worked for me),
WIPE,
"Format data option"(it should be there on the bottom right).
Thats it , storage decrypted.

Yup , it will wipe everything. Just backup to your PC your internal storage things.
Use a USB OTG to flash the custom rom, Gapps etc.

Not transferravle in TWRP mode. Juat boot into ur system in phone, then transfer data, come abck to TWRP, and proceed formatting.
Thanks everyone for accommodating me. I realise "format data" does not remove ROM!
