[APP|SHARE] Home Button Replacement [NO-ROOT] - HTC U11 Themes, Apps, and Mods

★ Home button replacement ★
★ Descriptions ★
Hello folks!
So, while was setting the phone, i discover Motion Launch Gestures.
Well after tried it, I realized that there isn't any double tap to lock/unlock, but only a double tap to see notifications on the lockscreen.
The fact is that I don't like to use always the power button to lock the device
I've tried nova launcher for the double tap to lock feature, but if you use fingerprint to unlock, it request the pin (a security purpose on Android)
So I digged on the web and I found an app that allow you to use fingerprint to lock the phone.
Plus it doesn't require the pin after you unlock with fingerprint.
Let's begin!
★ Requirements ★
These apps don't require a rooted phone
★Instructions★
Download the two apps from Play Store (link below)
doubleHome, to use double tap on fingerprint to turn off the screen (it will show you 2-3 seconds of black screen before the phone lock)
Nougat Quick Settings, to enable power toggle on quick settings, so you don't need to use power button any more
These apps are pretty explanatory itself, so I don't write any "how-to".
Just set right permissions and config as your choice.
I've also enabled "ringtone mode" on quick settings to change vibration on/off.
So I hope you guys enjoy this and feel free to comment any others doubts/tips/tricks!
I know that root/unlock bootloader will make this muuuuch more easier.
But for now i'll keep my phone stock (it's so hard because I see many great devs here ), so i thought to share this to people like me.

Thanks mate! Much appreciated

Useful,thanks for sharing :good:

I have done the same thing with Nova Launcher and it doesn't show me a pin locksreen. I have my phone encrypted as per the work email exchange policy and i have setup fingerprint unlock as well.

I've tried nova as well, but then you need to download also a clock widget (the one that comes with theme, that i love so much, doesn't work), plus the free version is limited.
Anyway yes, using a launcher with gesture will do the same

I just found a few options. A lock widget and a floating widget home button (It can save you from sending fingerprints in to the spy agency of your country).
Home floater (also see screenshot) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.skyarmy.floatinghomebutton
Screen lock requires to be device administrator
(screen off/put away phone preceding action)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.m2t.locker.widget

Hi. I had the same dilemma but I found a better way to do the locking the screen without pressing the home button.
I’m sure you guys heard about the app “GREENIFY”. It is actually useful. Well at least for me. It autohibernates apps and it will stop any apps running in the background and will put your phone to sleep. It is now available to non rooted phones so it became handy.
So after you download the app, there is a create shortcut option in the app which will create an icon in your home screen. So if you press the app shortcut, it will sleep and hibernate your phone. Also, it is a great app for saving battery.
Then if you would like to wake your phone up, you can just use the fingerscanner.
I hope it helps.

doubleHome is an amazing app!
Thank you!

Thanks for recommending that double tap app. But still don't understand why should I need installed that quick settings app customers double tap works for me fine without that second app...

I was referring to "Power off/Restart" quick toggle, so you don't have to press the power button fot that.
Anyway that app got updated, and I don't see that toggle anymore (I'm on Oreo)

Oh so, now understand.
And is any solution to turn off vibration when unlocking? I mean without root.

You can turn off that option under "Fingerprint scanner" setting.
On Oreo I have that Don't remember on nougat..

It looks like on Nougat missing that option. And another thing I would like to say: after lock that way my phone after few minutes require again input pin code.. that's bad

If you want to turn your phone off without using the power button, then you can use "edge sense"... It enables you to do so either by short or long squeeze...

Sorry, I'm not exactly sure what you mean.
But, if you go to Settings -> Buttons & Inputs -> Easy Wake Mode, you have the option of enabling/disabling.

Ah, gotcha, I get what you mean now.
Unfortunately, I can't figure it out either. One of the menus in Widgetlocker says it has no control over what buttons wake the device because that is controlled by the Android OS, so it doesn't look like that can be changed.
However, I do recall that in VillainTweaks for VillainRom there is an option for disabling the home button for the lockscreen. I don't know if you're on VillainRom or if that option will work for Widgetlocker or just the stock lockscreen, but that might be helpful.

FingerPrint issue while using Lock Screen app

Hi there,
I'm using a Lock Screen app for ages now.
it's an app that turns off the screen without having to press the physical power button.
This one, for example: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=wq.lockscreen
The issue started since installing the lock screen app and now I can't unlock the phone using my finger print, but only using the pattern. I tried several apps now and none of them worked for me. Only when I uninstall the app the finger print function works flawlessly..
Does anyone here came across this king of issue and found a solution ?
Thanks, guys !

There is a setting for "Smart lock and Nexus imprint" Says Experimental. Works every time for me.
It's a mm issue, not your hardware or software.
The confirmed workaround is use root and nova prime gesture to lock ie double tap/swipe down or up etc. Nova launcher prime is on a sale now too, double goodness

I'm using Nova for along time now, i know there's an option to add a gesture in order to lock the screen, but it doesn't work like any other app i've tried. I don't have root yet on my device, but Nova hasn't asked me for root either.

I'm not sure how it works without root. Give it a try though. It works the same as other lock apps except you're using nova gestures in the home screen.
That's the problem here, all other lock apps can't make it work.
Iv'e tried with Nova now, same issue :\

Any app that offers a real screen off without lock function (which wouldn't interfere with Imprint) needs root to do so.
Nearly all of the apps that provide a screen off function without root use the same API method which by design or oversight on the part of Google overrides both Nexus Imprint unlocking and Smart Lock settings on 5.x devices.
There is a Google Issue tracker thread here - star if this design decision/oversight irritates you - https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=191955
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iglint.android.screenlockpro has a working method but it is really just smoke and mirrors, not a true screen off action.
All it does is temporarily reduce the screen timeout to a minimum value (10 seconds) and sets a black screen overlay until the screen has naturally turned off. It works fine unless you invoke the shortcut and decide within 10 seconds that actually you wanted your screen on.
Nova can't do it with it's standard method either.

If you already use an automation app like Tasker or MacroDroid along with Secure Settings (I prefer MacroDroid) it's pretty easy to emulate the https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iglint.android.screenlockpro workaround and add some extra functionality to cancel the delayed real screen off if you decide you want to interact with the device in the few seconds after activating
Basically the steps are:
Use Secure Settings to set screen timeout to 1 millisecond (this actually results in a 7 second screen time out)
Set brightness to minimum
Set a 100% screen dim
Set Immersive Mode (MacroDroid doesn't support this natively dunno about Tasker - but there are apps that support this via intent so doable).
Reverse the above when the Screen off system broadcast is received and on whatever trigger event you like - I've got a proximity sensor wave to wake set up anyway via MacroDroid so just use that.

Fingerprint unlock without PIN-code set

Hi,
yesterday I became 5x owner and I read everything about problems with unlocking with FP If you use "lock sreen app for it".
But that's not problem, since my phone is rooted and I can use one of solutions.
My question is ...
Is there any solution to use JUST fingerprint unlock, without having PIN code/pattern. Why?
If you press power button to get lock screens on and than tap on notification (SMS, email) you have to put PIN. And that's annoying.
If i use FP unlock than you came directly on home screen and in you have to open taskbar to see notification...and that's annoying too.
Or maybe same question from the other side. Is there any solution to open notification from lockscreen without PIN code/pattern, BUT with fingerprint on.
I also noticed that form ambient screen I can double tap notification, but again, PIN code/pattern ...
Thanks for help!
Even I wanna know a solution to this.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Tap the notification on the lockscreen. When the PIN entry appears, do the fingerprint thing and it will take you to the app that was making the notification. It works, but is kind of awkward.

oh jeah, i realized ... Thanks. Really awkw.
Is there no other more elegant way? I don't want the damn PIN at all.
I just want a pure stock way not to use the power button so much (not gravity screen), which is what I thought the FP was all about.
I guess I could use a really simple pattern...so it's super quick. Annoying though.
Why is it that we are still having to adapt our behaviour to technology? That is the opposite of good HUI design.
Start with No LockScreen
Use Secure Settings App to set PIN/PassWord
Set up Imprint
Use Secure Settings App to disable Pin/Password

I'd thank you, but I'v used up my thanks for today (!!). So, a cheery "thanks mate" will have to suffice.
I do wonder a few things though.
1. Does Secure Settings need root to do what you suggest? I'm not rooted.
2. The closest thing I can find is the Keyguard Disable, which is a legacy feature and presents a warning that it may make my device unstable and it therefore not recommended. Is this the correct setting for my n5x 6.0.1 April?
3. I couldn't see any obvious option in Secure Settings to set a PIN or Pass.
Thanks.
You can delete all the files with .key extension in system/data folder using file manager in TWRP. It will give you fingerprint+no pattern as you want it to be.
are there any news on this topic? Im really interested in using my fingerprint sensor without setting a pin. I tried the method with secure settings app, but I cant find an option to set a pin with the app. I also tried to find my files with .key extensions in my system/data folder but there werent such files. gururoop said I need to use file manager in TWRP to do so, I dont even know what TWRP is.
Any other ways to get this accomplished? Did you find a solution tedrogers61?
You need to be rooted to delete the files. You only need to remove /data/system/locksettings.db
hmm well okay. Im actually not so happy with rooting my device. No other chance to use imprint without setting an additional pin/passwort?
Simplest way to use set unset PIN/PASSWORD in Secure Settings is by temporarily adding a home screen shortcut (via launcher widgets/shortcuts). The process of creating the shortcut brings you to the screens for selecting the actions (Dev Admin actions). Secure Settings needs to have Device Administrator permission. Once you are set up if just delete the shortcuts. No Root required for this.

Hijacking this thread, since you seem to have experience with using this debloater app. When I tried it I couldn't get the stock lock screen while having any password and fingerprint sensor protection. It worked fine with just the swipe to unlock, but if I enabled any secure unlock it would just bypass the lockscreen. Any solutions to this?

But after the reboot it shows no lock screen...I mean...neither the Marshmallow default one, which I thought should be there after disabling HTC lock screen.
So there's really no way to have a STOCK lock screen instead of the HTC one?

No, I mean, the stock lock screen is there, but isn't showed when I tap on the home screen like with HTC lock screen...the only way to show the stock lock screen is to press the power button... if I touch the home button the phone immediately go to home screen, when fingerprint is recognised...
This is how Nexus/pixel phone works?
If yes...well... everything is normal then...and I've done my job right with terminal...

Ah okay, now I understand what you mean.
This is one advantage of the default lockscreen. Unlocking the phone with fingerprint is much faster.
You have three options:
- Use power button to see the lockscreen
- Use double tap to wake to see the lockscreen (you need xposed for this)
- Use GravityBox. You can change how the lockscreen react after you use the homebutton (unlock the phone directly or just show the lockscreen - you need xposed for this)

on screen instant lock shortcut

Hi
I use nova launcher prime and am used to a shortcut on my screen to quickly lock the screen instead of using the hardware button to lock the screen. However since I have moved over to p2.. After I press the lock screen shortcut from nova the screen for goes black but the screen isn't locked... It is not till 10 secs later when the screen actually locks
I hate this feature as it stops me from putting the phone into my pocket instantly after locking. How to fix this? I have set up power button to instantly lock the phone after sleep.
It's not P2s problem it's Android's security feature. You'll need root access to instantly lock screen
But from quicktiles there is an icon to do it

Thanks yes i came across that as well... However it is really a total failure on Android part to not have anything built in to allow people to instantly lock... Isn't there any way to put a shortcut to the system icon on my desktop? In stock launcher or otherwise?
Unfortunately looks like Android is going the way of Apple with these silly restrictions becoming more n more common
Well it's a security feature which means they've probably found something wrong with putting a quick lock from 3rd party apps.
Use "Wide touch" found under Setting->Feature. You can assign multiple gesture into it.
