Help! I'm not receiving email alerts for all the threads on xda I'm subscribed to - About xda-developers.com

Hello,
I'm experiencing a strange kind of technical problem with the xda forum: I'm not regularly receiving the email alerts for all the threads I'm subscribed to (I'm actually subscribed to 164 different threads). This happens since my registration to the forum in 2014.
I strangely receive only some notifications and quite rarely, and they are about only some of the threads I'm subscribed to, this despite the fact that most of these 164 threads subscriptions are set to "Daily" notifications on my settings.
Those notifications seems to be sent to me randomly (I'm suscribed to those threads in the same way that I'm subscribed to the other ones, and I never actively posted on most of those threads).
I've double checked the settings on my user panel, and my e-mail spam filter is totally ok.
Is there by chance a maximum number of email alerts from subscribed threads that an user can receive?
Do you guys have an idea about why this could happen?
Do you think that it would be possible to contact someone of the forum staff in order to ask for technical help?
Thank you in advance!
W.

I've made a change to your account. See if you get any notification emails now?

Thank you for your reply, the_scotsman. Unfortunately nothing changed and auctually I didn't even receice a notification for your answer to this post as well (I've just discovered it by visiting the post manually).
I did a quick search and it appears that other users did experience the same problemin the past/are experiencing it.
Do you have an idea about how we could try to fix this problem? It would be very helpful for me.
Thank you very much again,
W.

Hmmm....that's strange.
I wonder if @MikeChannon has any ideas as to what the problem might be?
I can't see anything wrong with your user account settings. Let's see if he has any suggestions.

This time I just did regularly receive the email notifications about both your reply and the quote, but the system for example completely missed your first reply on the 24th of August, and, as an example, the same did happen with my followed threads that I'm subscribed to (with daily notifications): during the last week I did receive only 2 email notifications instead of 11. These 2 notifications are about threads that the system seems to always notify me about, while I never received any email notification about the other 9 threads that the system skipped this week.
That's indeed very strange. I'm sure that my e-mail box is totally fine, I'm actively participating to many other forums without problems. My spam folder looks also clean.
Any help would be really very appreciated. Thanks again!

Our notifications are sent out via a gmail account and a few days ago we noticed google was rate limiting us. In theory that should only mean a delay but it seems emails don't actually get through at all in some cases. It MAY be related to this.
Please report back if this continues.
Mike

Thank you for your reply Mike.
The thing is that I'm experiencing this problem since the beginning, right after my registration to the forum back in 2014.
At the moment I'm subscribed with daily notification to 169 threads but I'm receiving the email notification for only a few of them (and it has always happened like that). When I connect to my user control panel I can clearly go throught my subscribed threads and spot many threads that have been recently updated without any notification on my email box (actually the main part of them).
I'm pretty sure that my email account is fine but I can't really imagine what could be the problem.
I'm open to any kind suggestion. Being able to fix this problem would really help me.
Thanks again.
W.

I'm sorry to come back writing and (bothering you guys) here, but it looks like that I really can't resolve this issue myself.
Recently I even switched the email account linked to my xda profile to another address hosted by another provider (Hotmail) but nothing has changed: I still don't receive the large part of the email alerts from the threads I'm following.
Since having switched to another e-mail address should have eliminated the possibility of blocks or filters on my (e-mail side) frankly I really don't know what to do now.
Being able to receive updates from the threads I'm following would be incredibly helpful and would surely help me to engage more with the community.
I know that, since this is a free forum (but I would even pay a subscription if it could help with this issue!), I can't demand a prompt resolution to this technical issue. But I'm wondering which could be the reason behind this problem:
could it be possible that my account is still in a kind of "limited" mode?
could it be possible that there's a limit to the number of e-mail alerts that a user can receive (even if, as from my case, this limit would be extremely low, and it also looks like I'm not receiving the alerts with consistency)?

Your account definitely isn't restricted in any way, it looks completely normal. I've triple checked, and checked again.
This might be something that the server admin @bitpushr can perhaps provide some input, as I'm out of ideas. We've checked everything we can from our side.

Thanks again for your assistence @the_scotsman, I trust you and I know that you have already tried everything you could; I'm really grateful for it.
I also know that it could seem a strange problem and I'm sorry for it; at this point I would eventually be even willing to move my account to any other email address for you guys to check.
I'm thinking about other alternative solutions. What if i open a new account, would it be eventually possible to copy all my thread subscriptions (176 subscribed threads) on it?
Thank you very much again

Hello, what do you mean with "correct solution"?
My idea was to open a new account and to "migrate" or copy my thread subscriptions to it, but actually no forum moderator or admin did reply to my message to let me know if that was possible....
At the moment unfortunately my issue is still unresolved

Alright, thanks.
Hopefully someone will come out with a solution.

Hello there, sorry if I hijack this thread but I got the same problem. In general, it's the opposite problem (spam), but in this case, I don't receive emails from my subscription, despite having "checked" all threads and chose "instant email notification" in me profile settings.
Sorry If I missed a setting.

It worked today. I've got one for a quote and one for an answer to a thread I subscribed.
I don't know if you changed something.

Well I spoke too soon. Again I did not receive an instant email in a thread I subscribed.

I've never found the email notifications to be reliable, Tapatalk is much faster, and reliable.

Too bad, I like email notifications. I think Tapatalk is for mobile users and I browse XDA only from my PC.

Email notifications.

I turned mine off and I am still receiving them. Is there a conclusive way to deal with this error?
It seems that the notification system is a little bit buggy. My problem: I always get multiple identical notifications. Mostly 2, sometimes up to 5 messages. It would be nice if this could be fixed!
im also getting them to threads im not even suscribed too and ive turned email opts off weeks ago lol
I couldn't find anything wrong in the settings, I've asked our sysadmin to take a look at the issue.

Hi, i re-checked with out sysadmin, it seems you turned off the option to be automatically subscribed to a thread, but you still have some old subscriptions for which you still receive the notification e-mails. Could you check in user cp -> list subscriptions?
Best regards,
Flar
Strange: For answers 3-5 I didn't got a notification. Just for message 6.
What I also noticed: Since some time the link in the notification e-mail just opens the current page, but doesn't scroll down to the specific topic.
Hi Guys,
We've been looking into the multiple mail issue and it should be solved, if you receive multiple messages for the same post after today please let me know.

FIXED: SMS Timestamp Issue

UPDATE: I've found a fix for this issue - AWESOME!
Just go to the Android Market and install the SMS Time Fix app by Matt Precious.
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-mattprecious-smsfix-pAFq.aspx
It works perfectly, and updates the time stamp on all messages to relfect PHONE time and not network time. HINT: Make sure the "Last Resort" option is checked in the settings and offset is set to zero. This little app now makes the Evo Messages app usable. Finally...
Hope this is helpful info
So, I've been reading and experiencing several issues with SMS timestamps on the Evo 4G.
It seems there are three distinct issues with SMS timestamps on the the Evo and I believe they all have the same root cause.
Issue 1: When roaming texts are received with the wrong time stamp, offset by several hours (typically 4 or 5 hours off). This causes them to not be threaded in the conversation correctly. Very annoying.
Issue 2: When receiving SMS messages on any network (Sprint or Roaming), the time stamp is off by an hour. The result is the same as Issue 1, but a less extreme example.
Issue 3: When texting back and forth in quick succession, SMS messages are not logged in the order in which they are received, and received text messages ALWAYS appear before sent text messages if they are sent during the same minute, regardless of which one was actually sent first. This is also very annoying.
I believe the root cause is that the native Sense UI messaging app is using the timestamp of the tower of each SMS rather than using the time stored on the phone. To prove this, if you use Handcent and set it to use "phone time" and ignore the tower time, it works perfectly. The thing is that I don't want to use Handcent and I want to use the native app. Is there a setting that can be tweaked to fix this? Has anyone talked to HTC or Sprint about the issue and is a fix in the works?
For such a major problem, I am surprised more people haven't come forward. It's a pretty significant bug...
Thanks,
Matt_TX.

I agree and its getting really annoying since it causes me to miss texts.
NM, too easy
Has anyone talked to Sprint or HTC about it? I am sure there HAS to be a fix in the works. The good news is that the native Froyo messaging app does not do this (as far as I can tell). I used a Nexus One on T-mobile and it doesn't occur. It appears to be using the phone's timestamp, as it should...
As long as HTC don't apply their "logic" (or lack thereof) over Froyo, it should be fixed soon.
I also can't believe that Sense UI stops the user from having more than one Exchange account. Android 2.1 (Eclair) does this by default. Why on earth would they remove it?
Anyway, back on topic... Please please post with your thoughts and discoveries around the SMS timestamp issue.
Thanks!
How is this related to development?

I'm not sure what you mean by "NM, too easy". Can you explain or provide any insight. Please help if you can. For those of us with this issue, it's REALLY annoying. I apologize if the question is dumb and there is an easy fix.
I realize that some of you may not feel that it is related to development, but I disagree. For those geniuses out there that make ROM's, maybe there is some way to fix this with a setting or minor change in the Sense UI messaging app...
Additionally, there is no need to berate someone that's genuinely asking for help. It's obvious that this forum gets the most traffic, and it's obvious that the smartest "Evo User" minds are located here. I don't think there is any harm in reaching out for help, isn't that the purpose behind these forums
The samething was happening to me last night.

Agreed. If its not happening with Handcent nor the AOSP apk, then its a direct HTC issue.
General Discussion. Also, probably not really that urgent.
./agree on all poins with OP.
I posted in Q&A about this same issues, with no replies 8(.
Anyway, I thought it was related to the modified prl that I installed. However it would do it even when I was on the stock prl.
Long story short, I called sprint and said I was having the issue. They said they were going to refresh something on their side, to wait 20 mins then power cycle the phone.
Did that and to my surprise it worked! Then yesterday I re-flashed a custom rom and the sms timestaps went all wonky. /sigh
suck it up and use handcent or chomp, they are overall better apps, just not as nice of a UI.
this has been a problem for quite some time. I've looked everywhere for a solution. This was a problem on winmo phones as well.
I switched to handcent and never looked back. Once you get it all customized, it's awesome.

look at this guy.
handcent didn't work on my froyo rom, not sure about chomp, didn't try it.
at work i always have this problem, texts are recieved 5 hours into the future, whereas the ones i send are the correct time. occasionally ones they send are the correct time so i have to scroll up and down and it is very annoying.
not a fan of handcents pop up notifications, i guess i could turn em off.
guess i'll just 'suck it up'

Daily notification e-mails for subscribed threads - broken?

I am subscribed to a few threads and set them up with daily e-mail notification. However, I'm not getting any e-mails.
Earlier this year I was subscribed to a thread and it worked. Now it doesn't. The e-mails aren't classified as spam either, they're just not coming.
Summary:
- Thread subscriptions with daily e-mail notification
- New posts
- No e-mails
Is anybody else experiencing this? Can an admin look at my account or the e-mail system? I found some similar old threads, but none of them had a solution or solved problem.
Thank you very much in advance!
Today I got a notification mail for the last 24 hours. Interesting...
I hope somebody fixed something .
Today: nothing...
I have a similar problem...
I have set daily updates for a few forums and instant notifications for a few threads. I get about once every week the daily updates (not regularly, on the same day) and no notifications for the threads (although I'm sure they have new replies).
This has been going for over a month.
Same here. Right now I just visit the user control panel to see the thread updates since I started following quite a few threads.
Still the same... 1-2 days I get e-mails, 5-6 days I don't...
It's a shame.
This has broken for me too in the last few days. I was getting daily email notifications from 4 or 5 active threads, as requested, up to and including April 5th, but since then I have only had one notification in total. Yet I can see that 5 of these threads had activity yesterday.
Same problem here...and yes I've checked my spam folder!
Few months after and the problem is still here... I guess nobody cares...
Guess not!

I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing problems with daily subscriptions. Instant subscriptions ARE working properly for me, thankfully.
Hi,
I've got the same problem, daily or weekly email notification not received anymore since few month. Can it be related to the use of tapatalk on some of my devices?
I will try instant notification to see if it works better.
Thanks
Philippe
The problem exhibits itself with threads that I've subscribed to just days ago, too.
The only detail that I overlooked until now is the fact that I was subscribed to the Smartwatches section, back when it was a section. In between it became a super section, with other sections under it (Pebble, Sony Smartwatch, etc). And I cannot unsubscribe from it either.

Instant notifications are the only ones that work reliably for me. I may get a daily notification once every other month. This is so strange because daily use to work perfectly and nothing has changed on my end. Nothing is getting snagged by my spam filter.
I have this issue too. No problem with instant notifications, but daily doesn't work. I see item in control panel, but have no email when subscribed thread is updated. I received a daily notification email only once or twice for several months.

Still getting emails

Ok so I'm getting way too many emails so shut off the settings ( I thought) were the correct ones for the emails I was getting.
Anyway long story short I've shut all notification email off and email from admin and users, I'm not getting as many but am still getting at least 20 a day
Is there any other place I need to check besides the user cp that has email settings ?
Cheers

Ads in the Samsung Calendar?!

I just had a calendar notification pop up that said "iPhoneX is Here!"
I clicked on it and it opened my calendar and sure enough there's this entry that I never made, and it repeats daily for the next 5 days.
I'm guessing this is a third party app and not Samsung. But I've checked permissions and none of my 3rd party apps have calendar permissions.
The only thing different that I installed from my previous phone is Blurams app for a security camera we purchased and Network Signal Info app.
Anyone know of anyway to figure out which app is pushing notifications to my calendar?
Gmail sometimes automatically adds things to your calendar from emails that you receive if they include a meeting invitation attachment. Check for a matching email in your gmail inbox/trash/spam

I just got the exact same message and was wondering that too. I used to have a problem with my iCloud calendar on my iPhone x where people could just put random events on my iCloud calendar and they would appear and now it seems they can do the same thing with a Samsung calendar

The stock Samsung Calendar app.
I would flip if I had iphone advertising on my Samsung phone, seriously, but I don't see any advertising on mine, maybe because I went over all the menus and disabled all advertising, tracking etc. . Those are usually in privacy settings, or similar. If that doesn't work try to guess which programs could be doing this and limit all the permissions for them. Also you could create some throw away gmail account to register the phone, that nobody knows and you rarely get any emails.
That's not advertising from the app. Common sense would tell you that Samsung would not advertise for an iPhone.
There is a way that people can add events to your calendar without your permission simply by knowing your email address.
It is indeed coming from your Google account.
To prevent this you need to turn off the ability to accept events without confirmation or permission.
Here is a good resource.

Yes. But what calendar it link too? Did you connect to google calendar and the message is come from google calendar?
This sounds like a spam calendar event. I just had the same issue, but mine were all in Russian. If it is, where it comes from is if someone adds your email as an invitee, it will add to your calendar even without getting the email or replying. The setting that allows this has to be fixed on a PC web version of Google calendar.
Here is how to do that, but it doesn't deal with the events already there I think.
https://howtoremove.guide/remove-spam-in-google-calendar/
To mark an event as spam, I can not recall the exact steps, but it was something like in Google calendar on the phone, open the event without clicking any links. Hit the 3 vertical dots in the upper right. One of the options should be "mark as spam" or something like that. Or there might be "more actions" then the mark as spam option.
I can not find the original website where I learned that. But it fixed my problem since it blocked the spammer. There does not appear to be the same functionality in Samsung calendar, so try doing on the website version from a computer.

Sorry if that came off rude I did not intend for it too. It just seemed like the discussion was going on a route that made it seem like it was the Samsung app rather than a Google calendar issue.
Well, truth be told I got one of these two days ago. The same exact one.
There are tons of breaches that have been happening in recent years. You can use https://haveibeenpwned.com/ to see if your email address was included in a breach. (This does not contain all recent breaches but it has a lot)
I also have noticed a crazy uptick in back to back to back robot scam calls. The other day (same day I got the calendar spam) I was at work and a client of mine and a customer of his all had our phones ring at the same exact time. They were all "Scam likely". While they were different incoming phone numbers it was literally at the same exact time. Things seem to have really kicked up a notch when it comes to spam. At least it seems so.

Yeah I actually checked that site about a week or two ago. Was taking some training on internet sources in criminal investigations, and they showed us that site. My email address has been compromised like 14 times, LOL.
And YES to the robocalls!! I usually just hang up on them without answering. But the other day, as soon as I hit decline, it rang again. I mean IMMEDIATELY. Did it three or four times. That's a new tactic.
It seems like every time they say the cell carriers are cracking down on robocalls, they just increase. I can't even answer my ****ing phone anymore.
Thanks for the link to this thread. Yes I saw this in Samsung calendar this morning too. I have never seen anything like this in Google calendar and I don't have any spam emails that would trigger this.
Ive never seen this on any note phone I've had and dont see it now. Currently using just the stock Sammy calendar.
Ive had a few emails breached over time and that link above that tells you if your email addy has been comprised is a good resource. That said, even with a couple of my email addys breached ive still not seen this...
Just had the same thing. Never saw any spam emails with calendar invites, though. There were 4 events per day over 8 days.
It's a know issue with Gmail. Or "working as intended", really..

It's so weird that it suddenly hit us Note10/+ users. Maybe a coincidence, but still strange. And yup, sounds like a spam email event. Spammers/scammers are useless wastes of air. ?
