No Z series on the list
http://www.xperiablog.net/2017/08/31/sony-confirms-android-8-0-oreo-rollout/

Why Z5 series not receive android 8 ?
Whyyyyyyyyyyy

what? no xperia Z5 android 8? affff, need send email to sony claim this...

-_- there ahould be someone to port custom android 8 rom for us

Sony ditched Z family.

Well the Z5P came with Lollipop so Nougat was suppose to be the last since Sony only gives 2 major updates to flagships

"2 major updates already rolled out". That's ok, but it cannot be an acceptable reason. No hardware requirements which can block Oreo release for Snapdragon810. Nexus 6P will get the update, and it have very close hardware. Also the Z5P is a premium device with high price, it should get more support.

Only issue I see atm, is that we need a kernel 4.4 and for some reson Sony has removed Z series from their kernel git

no news about android 8 oreo ?

It seems there won't be official -- I reached out to the Sony Blog which posted the news on their site, and got a reply:

Xperia z updated to Android 8 by lineage os.
Can anyone port android 8 for our device?
Whan lineage start supporting z5 premium?

https://twitter.com/sonyxperiagb/status/951371712700014592
Asked Xperia UK and they replied
Hello!
Our Android upgrade policy is to support all premium range devices for eighteen months after the device has launched, which excludes devices that came to market before those listed.
Therefore, the Xperia Z5 Premium will not receive the Oreo update.

That's just sad. Why is there an artificial lifetime for this device? It's an expensive device, and it sucks that it's only supported for 18 months.

Xperia ZL 4.3/4.4

Sony Mobile has just confirmed that it plans to update ten Xperia handsets to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean from December 2013 onwards. The handsets on the list includes the Xperia Z series (Z, ZL, ZR, Z Ultra, Z1 and Tablet Z) along with the Xperia SP. It also confirmed that a number of older handsets will also get Android 4.3 including the Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V.
A number of recent lower-end handsets have not made the list at all though, including the Xperia L, Xperia M and Xperia C. The Xperia L and Xperia M should be able to handle the upgrade, so maybe Sony has decided not to update these handsets given their positioning. This would be a shame though especially since they only launched within the last six months. The Xperia C has limited availability so we can understand if that was left off due to commercial reasons. We’ll keep you posted as the countdown to the Android 4.3 update commences.

Saw this today also, great news......... 4.4 will also be coming to the Z series also ......
Why they didn't just update directly to 4.4 and skip 4.3? It will make more sense.

RAW File support in adroid 4.4
Hey guys, i read that google is gonna bring RAW file support in android 4.4 so we can have images with zero compression meaning we can have the best our sony can actually provide . As u know, high compression in sony cams is quite an issue, as it deteriorates image quality.
Sum of u peeps might already know, i juz wanted to share my bit of information.
Heres a link for the info http://www.thinkdigit.com/Mobiles-PDAs/Google-to-bring-RAW-images-burst-mode_18463.html

How's the performance of the eXistenZ ROM and Kernal? Does it improve the ZL's battery life?

How to get Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow?

If you want official Sony firmware you have to change your phone to Z3 at least. Z1 compact was dropped and will never get any new version.

If there is no Android M then this is my last phone from Sony. I mean, this is ****. State of the art device two years ago and EOLed already. They must be kidding us.
In my opinion Sony is actually one of the best. But i agree. it's kind of sad that we can't have Sony marshmallow firmware for this great device. It is'nt even close being outdated yet.

Xperia M5 is getting official nougat!

I went to live chat on sony website and the guy confirmed it will get official update.Screenshot bellow.
its not officially on the list yet so I don't think its any time soon

The only terrible thing about the M5 has been that apparently Sony forgot they made it, as they're into the business of selling "new" phones even when hardware-wise there ain't a real upgrade, consider the specs of M5 vs XA1, a model which is properly going to be updated to oreo by the way.

Commercially wise "sure", it's an older release, but spec-wise the M5 has some features the XA1 has not, such as IP68 water resistance, Full HD screen, 4k video recording plus a 13 MP selfie camera, and slightly higher capacity battery.
As for benchmark scores... on GeekBench 4:
Xperia M5: 768 Single-Core, 4393 Multi-Core
Xperia XA1: 822 Single-Core, 3704 Multi-Core
and on Antutu 6:
Xperia M5: 53840
Xperia XA1: 60596

What's next? SP or Oreo?

Are there any release notes for may security patch?
I hope we will receive oreo next..
Personally I think Oreo will come perhaps 1-2 months after the G6 launch.
I still see Motorola using the Android 7 v 8 comparison between the phones as a marketing ploy.

Consider this:

Oreo != Treble. We won't get treble.
Lenovo screwed us over, stock-ish Android but no major updates or improvements other than security patches. I will never buy another one of their phones again that's for sure. Next device will probably be a Android One device like the Nokia 7 Plus.

can someone try and tell what it updates
Probably just the security patch

The update only seems to be out for the Russian firmware on XperiFirm
Really? We gonna have one new useless thread like that one each month?
Let me clear a few things.
Sony doesn't change anything between each update, the second firmware fix some bugs that might be there and that's all.
All next updates are security updates until next major android build.
Oh and Android R won't bring anything new.

It's really incredible to me that Sony still does not provide a change log. For my last few flagship phones I switched to OnePlus and got spoiled by the rapid iteration detailed changelogs and high consumer touch of a scrappy startup-minded manufacturer.
I really looked forward to getting the Xperia 1ii but have been completely disappointed in almost everything.
I received this update last night in the United States. Weeks after other regions had already received it still no one has any idea of what changed on our devices.

Can I ask how you know it's just a security update? I have several Sony Android based TVs that they pushed updates down to with no release notes that also included version increments for included apps.
I loved both the OnePlus flagships I had I had a 16 McLaren edition and a 7 Pro. The 7 Pro was just fantastic updates came out constantly with new features. I guess the only reason I didn't continue to buy OnePlus was I was frustrated that they got rid of the mechanical front-facing camera which made the display on the 7 Pro simply amazing.
OnePlus forums are very active lots of knowledgeable people and plenty of opportunities to sign up for beta features or releases.
Sent from my XQ-AT51 using Tapatalk
Been using Sony phones since '08. Version number changes are more pronounced when there are significant changes. Sony never publishes change logs which is ridiculous but it won't change. Size is indicative as well. I think the file was 170mb or so, not really large enough to carry anything substantial.
It seems that the jpg rendering in the Photo Pro app for the wide angle lens has changed. It used to be different from the result in the normal photo app, but now looks the same.
XQ-AT52 from HK Is still on 3.88 ...... :'(
Security patch
I think it's a security patch, I hope they fix the screen mirroring issue, it won't play picture only shows background and plays audio. Same with usbc to hdmi adapter
Do Sony keep the security updates close to Google's? My job requirements is that they are running 3 months old security patches. My OnePlus 7 pro have been updated regularly as part of their beta program. It's been a while since I have a Sony, I think it's time to jump off the OnePlus for me.
