Problem after moving App to System in Oreo - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. When I was on Nougat, I used to move some apps to system/priv-app and it was working fine... But now, in Oreo, when I move an app to that path, the app runs fine and it doesn't let me uninstall it, but the problem is that now it doesn't have system functions... Example: The app "GPS Joystick" ("The App Ninja" development) lets you turn off the location service if it's installed in system mode... Now it doesn't let you select the "system mode" options... It seems like it doesn't detect that it was moved to system even if its running in system.
Any ideas how to solve it?
Thanks!
PD: my english sucks!

constant "Use My Location" request???

something really really strange has happened to my epic....
just a couple of hours ago, any time i type to search for something or if i select the search button, i get prompted to "Use My Location" "Do you want to allow Google to use location for improved search results and other services?"
doesn't matter if i select Agree or Disagree....i'm stuck in a loop to keep answering the question...
if i hit Home, the Task Manager i see "Google Search" and "Google Services Framework" runing...
i've never seen this before or how to fix it...
i've rebooted, updated my prl and profile, airplane mode on/off....i've given acces to Use Wirless Networks from within Location and Security but it doesn't help....
i haven't instaled anything new after flashing to 1.02 Syndicate rom last night...
i'm unable to use my phone and it's driving me nuts.... any suggestions?
thanks
Moved to Q&A Do you have an app called root explorer?
If you go to settings, location and security, uncheck use wireless networks... see if that helps
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
wireless network is currently unchecked and it didn't help....also have same problem with it checked....
yes, have root explorer, adao and astro....
some apk to replace??
thank you.

Ok. Go into data/app. Find the apk called googlequicksearchbox.apk. Move it to system/app, and delete anything else having to do with search from data/app, and then reboot. This should fix it.
wow...i don't have that apk....
in the data/app folder there is nothing called "googlequicksearchbox.apk" and there is no other apk in that folder with "search" in the apk folder as well....
in the system/app, i do see the "googlequicksearchbox.apk" as well as "googleservicesframework.apk"

Ok, try this then. Delete that app from system/app. Make sure you have no more google search functionality. Then, download google search from the market, and move it from data/app to system/app

Try clearing data in Google Framework in "manage applications".
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

finally
worked
i did it 3 times and it finally took..... i need a beer...
thank you for your help....
I had the same problem and clearing data on google framework worked for me too.
Thanks!
well, it happened again.... and this time along with constant messages of Swype, Messeging and Google Framework FC errors....
maybe i have a bad flashed rom....this is odd...
will try to reflash the Syndicate 1.02 rom now...
also got an android.acore fc error as well....never saw that one before...
anyway, i rebooted into clockwork and ran the wipe cache command....that seems to have stopped the errors...
what do you guys think? reflash the syndicate rom? wondering why this is happening now....not doing anything out of the ordinary in using the phone...
thanks!

Sounds like there is a bit of corrupted data somewhere. Have you been booting normally without a battery pull? If it reoccurs you might try a data factory reset and restore only data you absolutely need. Reflashing may work if you do all the wipes before hand.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
yes, regular reboots without batt pulls...
and so the errors all came back again!!!....so i booted into cw, wiped the cache 3x and reflashed the rom....
it's been stable for a while now, hopefully this is it.....if it happens again, then yes, i will have to wipe it out and reinstall rom and apps from scratch...
yea, something definitly got corrupt...wish i could figure out what i may have done to cause it...

S Note removed by accident

Hello there,
I've tried following this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47955994&postcount=6742
To lower the RAM usage, I've tried to move S Note with /system/app mover from Google Play but after the restart the app required I can't find S Note on my device.
In addition I'd love to know how to properly move apps with TB.
Any help will be much appreciated.
::EDIT::
All right, I installed Root Explorer and moved the app back from /data/app to /system/app
The permissions were fine, so after a reboot S Note appeared again.
Again, I'd love to know how to move apps properly.

If you are on 4.3 JB i think it isnt possible...if you are on something lower i think it is possible...simply go into TB and find the system app you want to move.... hold onto the app (long press) till a menu pops up...scroll to the bottom....and it says convert app to user app...or something similar...and click that...and it'll be done...in 4.3 it somehow has been removed...although you can still click on any 3rd party user app and convert it to a system app...anyway thats how its done...please use caution...hope this helps

Hi guys, i have the same problem whit my G8. I can't find the retail demo in any folder. How can i delete it?
YESSSSSSS !!!! i find !!!!
i do a search in root explorer, in search i write apk and in the results there is. So i delete it and i solved the problem!!
I also managed to find the retail demo application using 'root explorer' but it's not giving me any options to force delete the application. If i delete the individual system files of the application, would i cause stability issues with the phone?

No. The method I mentioned will only wipe the Files App data and cache (Hence from Settings > Apps > Files > Storage). This is not a global wiping of data and cache of your entire device (this would be the last resort).
I had the same annoying problem. I finally tracked the issue to another app called 'Box' which is a cloud storage app. Once I uninstalled "Box" the Files app worked again. I located an earlier version of the Box app (v.3.7.5) and it seems to work properly now.
The was incredibly annoying to track this problem down. I hope this helps my fellow OP3 owners...

Google Assistant Voice Match greyed out

'Voice Match' or so called 'OK Google anytime' option is greyed out
1. Google Assistant is working.
2. Google is set as 'Assistant Application'
2. Google Assistant is set in a supported language (Spanish-Spain). Even if I set it up as US-English, it does not work.
3. I've checked permission about voice and video recording inside Google Play Services
4. I got no other Voice Assistant
5. I'm not in battery saving mode.
*It used to work flawlessly about 3 months ago, idk what happened, I just installed Pixel Experience when it was 32 bits and since then I've installed Stock Debloated and right now I'm with the last 13th February 2018 LinageOS 8.1 64Bits build. None of them worked. All of the ROMs mentioned have Voice Match greyed out.
Plz help, thanks in advance.

Try deleting cache and data from google search app, reboot and set up assistant again. It worked for me.
Hi guys ,
This problem that u have can occur if the Google app is not installed as a system app .
So to fix this ,follow the next few steps -
1) Convert Google app into system app using apps like Titanium backup or anything of your preference.
2) Using any root Explorer navigate to Root > system > app and search for an app named similar to 'googlesearchbox' and cut the app from this folder.
3) Now Navigate to Root > system > priv-app and paste the app.
4) Finally Reboot and now the problem will be gone

I just installed to system/priv-app and after reboot Google gave me the option to set my voice model.
So the problem was that I hadn't installed to system/priv-app but installed it into system/app. So, if you have this problem with the greyed out voice model option in Google app you have to:
1. Copy (don't cut) the 'Google' app folder:
1.1. If you have it as a system app and you still see greyed out the voice model option.- from root/system/app to root/system/priv-app
1.2. If you don't have it as a system app.- from root/data/app to root/system/priv-app
2. Reboot
Thank you @Vaibhav Kanna for taking the time to explain and thanks to everyone that helped in this thread.

Just to make it simple, flashing mini or micro gapps instead of Pico will install Google as system app by default.
Much easier

Are those apps in different folders? I thought they were the same app, because Assistant is integrsted into Google app? Anyways, the folder you are looking for is 'com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox'

Normally they aren't, it was my mistake. I installed the Google app and Google assistant app separately as I didn't know Google assistant could be activated via the Google search app. I've always installed gapps Pico for years so I was clearly not up to date with how the Google search app worked. Flashed the Nano package so it's a system app by default.
Now I'm trying to find a way to use "Hey Google" instead of "Ok Google"
If you're using pico gapps then install nano and it will work, did for me.
I transferred Google app to /system/priv-app and it works like a charm
Thanks @Vaibhav Kanna
Thanks @Vaibhav Kanna The easiest fix for me was to flash Nano Gapps instead of my Pico Gapps....
BTW @Avalon, Assistant now responds to "Hey Google" too.
