My phone is GT-N7105 (Samsung Note 2)

TWRP can't recognize my backup folder name which I am trying to restore

I had a nandroid backup before, then I copied the backup to PC, still have it. Then I flashed lineage 13. I deleted the nandroid backup on the phone storage. Now I want to restore the backup so I copied the backup files from the PC.
Now when I go to TWRP Restore mode, no backups are found.
I already searched through the internet and found the renaming method but there's a problem:
this is my original backup:
TWRP/backups/42f7491d7b409fc7/2017-03-01--05-28-34_JZO54K.N7105XXDMB
I tried to make a new backup of my current lineage (just to see if the folder name changed based on the new folder the backup process will create), here is what the resulting folder was:
TWRP/backups/42f7491d7b409fc7/2017-07-05--09-27-29_lineage_tOlte-userdebug_6.0.1_MOB31K_ab972c
As you can see, only the innermost folder name changed. So from what I found through searching, it said to rename the old backup folder to the new backup folder's name, meaning :
I changed
2017-03-01--05-28-34_JZO54K.N7105XXDMB
to
2017-07-05--09-27-29_lineage_tOlte-userdebug_6.0.1_MOB31K_ab972c
TWRP still can't see the original backup.
So what should I rename the original backup folder for TWRP to recognize it and make it appear?
EDIT:
I already updated my TWRP but problem still exists.
Create a new backup with your current rom, then remove it and add the old one instead.

Sorry not really a developer type of guy and I regret tinkering with these stuff on my phone.
What you meant was to make a backup with current rom just to get the folder name that TWRP will recognize and then swap the old stock backup into the folder?
If I just rename the stock backup folder name to 2017-07-05--09-27-29_lineage_tOlte-userdebug_6.0.1_MOB31K_ab972c it's the same as what you said right?
and it should still run smoothly (stock rom should be restored without errors)?

It's ok, we're all helping each others here. And we all had lots of mistakes and we still do.
Anyways, yes renaming it could do the trick but you don't need to rename the backup name directly. Instead, you need to rename the folder containing the backup.
TWRP path is going to be similar to that
/TWRP/BACKUPS/4d00475b004150de/2017-07-05--09-27-29_lineage_tOlte-userdebug_6.0.1_MOB31K_ab972c

All you need to get is that folder name "4d00475b004150de" because it's auto generated by twrp, that's why I asked you to create another backup even if you just backed up your boot file to generate the folder.
Once you did the backup you can then move your old backup to that folder or rename that old similar folder to the newly created one (not the rom backup folder itself).

So I tried renaming my backups on pc, since rom manager would always mess up when trying that method. Both ways I get a "m5 sum incorrect " or something like that!
Any ideas, sometimes I have so many backups its hard to tell what's what

ROM Manager will let you name your backups. Only thing I can think of.
how do you use rom manager to rename them i renamed them all with ES File Explorer and now all my backups get that m5 sum incorrect thing

I used to have this problem. What I currently do, is as follows, using Amon_RA 2.2.1 Located here:

I use the recovery nandroid backup. When I do this it creates a folder under /sdcard/nandroid/...... where ...... is the folder nandroid will create upon your first backup. From there all your future backups will go into that folder, it will be something goofy, the folder for me is Ht096Hl01177 (path looks like this: /sdcard/nandroid/HT096H101177/New Backup, rename this folder, not the HT one), within that folder will be your actual backup. Create the nandroid backup, I use ROOT EXPLORER (Paid but worth it since you can do mounted deletes), to rename the newley created backup, do not change the parent folder. Then when I want to restore to that one, I make sure I do a full wipe including Dalvick Cache. Using this process I don't hardly ever get the m5sum error. Hope that helps. I currently have 4 backups under the parent directory and I can restore them fine as long as I wipe first.
The easiest and cheapest way is by opening rom manager and scroll down to where it says backup/restore and on the backup you want to rename you hold it and then it will give you options like delete etc...chose rename and rename it example MikFroyo_1-24-2011 when you space make sure you _ for spaces and you should not get an error I segest you make a backup and use that to test it you can also rename it by clicking back up restore within rom manager and press back and rename it like showed in the example hopes this helps I have tested both with no problems what so ever

I always rename mine with no issues...so far. I just leave all the numbers then start at the end like this. 2010-11-20.07.24.51 then I add -MYN-01-HB-76. Dont know if this will work for everyone. I just didnt want to mess with the file name too much

The key thing to know about renaming nandroids is that you have to be sure to leave no spaces in the names...
You can name it CM6.Jan25 but not CM6 Jan 25
You do not need to save the given name of it, I assure you.
....this is true whether you rename with rom manager, root explorer or estrongs ..... that is all you need to be concerned with, as long as you do that you should be fine....

Yeah, I use Root Explorer, no spaces, works fine for me.

I got a new galaxy nexus that i'd like to use as my main phone, but I don't want to go through the trouble of setting it up again, my current gnex is just perfectly setup. They both have the same version of android (4.0.4).
I was going to to a clockwork mod backup of the current phone, move it to the new phone and restore there, but I think I'll mess up the IMEI if I do that?
What additional steps do I need to carry out to preserve the phone's IMEI?

If both have absolutely the same ROM, restore just the data backup, not the system backup, and you should be fine.
You can copy the IMEI on the original nexus to the other? Wouldnt that be best?
Is so follow these steps (it may look much, but i dont think it would take long if u want to keep your original imei number!
You must have:
-Root
-Root explorer for copying files to and from EFS folder
-Android SDK for the ADB tools or Terminal in your phone.
IMEI is stored in ".nv_data" file in ORIGINAL SHIPPED EFS folder too, so you just have to do these:
1) make a copy of your EFS folder to your sdcard using root explorer and then make a backup of the folder to your computer [ to have another copy if you had to format sd card sometime ]
2) delete the EFS folder (BE SURE YOU HAVE BACKED IT UP IN A SAFE PLACE AS SAID IN STEP 1) from the root of your phone using root explorer.
3) reset the phone, after that, go to the root, and you can see that the EFS folder is still there, don't make any mistake, this EFS folder is new and generated by the android OS.
4) go to EFS folder using root explorer, and delete "nv_data.bin", "nv_data.bin.md5".
5) go to your backed up EFS folder on your sdcard, copy the "imei" folder to the EFS folder at the root of your phone, then again go to the backed up EFS folder at yout sdcard and copy the " .nv_data " file to your EFS folder at the root of your phone using root explorer, NOTE: the dot in first of nv_data is not a mistake, copy the ".nv_data" file.
6) make another copy of the ".nv_data" file in EFS folder in your phone, so you would have 2 copies of ".nv_data" in EFS folder
7) rename one of ".nv_data" files to "nv_data.bin" and another one to "nv_data.bin.bak"
8) at your PC open CMD at the ADB tool path, or run Terminal at your phone enter these commands:
adb shell ( use this command of you use ADB, if you're using terminal, skip this line )
su ( ALLOW THE MESSAGE CAME AT YOUR PHONE's DISPLAY BY SUPERUSER PROGRAM )
chown 1001:radio /efs/nv_data.bin
9) reset your phone.... after that you have your original IMEI. you can check your IMEI by dialing *#06#.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work, my IMEI gets clobbered to some generic IMEI when I do this.

Stupid question... there is no efs folder. Do you mean /factory? There are nv_data files in /data/radio as well.
I'll play with these a bit and see.

My problem is that I downloaded the nand stock rom from the thread and extracted it and tried to put it in the clockworkmod\backups folder and I think it was ok (not sure) but by mistake I deleted all of backups (the stock and the one i created) and I tried to copy it again and create another one but I noticed that there never 2 backups.
The one that I created I can see only from the restore option in recovery and not in the folder ( I used to see it in the folder ..) and the stock one I can see in the folders but not in the restore option.
Should it be like this ? Am I doing something wrong ?
How can I restore that stock backup if I cant see it ?
I'm on ordroid 9 with TWRP recovery.
And the stock one gets in ZIP but i extracted it and copied as folder.

That's because you didn't put it into clockworkmod>backup folder in the sd card and btw you don't extract anything .....every nandroid backup must have 5 zip files in it (don't extract it) and should be named as the date and time it was created

Clockworkmod\backup\date & time folder\backup files

I extracted the stock backup folder from the zip . not the content in backup.
Forgot the part about renaming, that actually might be the case.

I wanted to change my kernel today, back to stock, so I tried to recover a previous backup I had from clockworkmod. But when I tried to recover it said "Md5 mismatch". So I went to Youtube to figure out why this was, I followed the instructions but there is no file path for my backups. I tried all of the different file paths "/data" that was empty, "/mnt/shell/" and that was empty as well, as well as a few other file paths. I eventually gave up looking for the backup and decided to erase the backup I made. But when I tried to delete it it said "There was an error renaming your backup. Please choose a unique and valid file name for your backup." I tried renaming it something else but it still says the same thing. Anyone know what I can do here, I just want this file off of my phone. Any help would be much appreciated!
Extra info. When I made the backup I decided to rename it as "5-14(Before custom kernel) but when I got the prompt to change name, I tried changing it to a valid name. Now the name is stuck?

I renamed the folder on my PC and it worked fine. But nothing changed. I looked in ES file explorer and folder name is still "download" and wont change
May be some problem with rom manager.Try renaming using "root explorer". If you want to get your stock kernal you can flash it using kernal flasher.

rename the folder that contains all backuped files (without space). put that folder in another folder named "backup". put backup folder in another folder named "clockworkmod". put clockworkmod folder in data/media using any root explorer (enable mount option in setting). try to restore

Yesterday i made a backup using ROM manager v5.5.3.7 (free)
For some reason i made a second backup by accident, and something went wrong.(probably lack of disk space)
I now have 2 backups, i would like to delete one. (since i'm running short on disk space)
Tried too delete it but i got the "There was an error renaming your backup. Please choose a unique and valid file name for your backup." error.
I tried everything provided in this thread without any succes. (sorry for replying on this kinda old thread)
Anyone has an idea how to help me out?
Running CM11 (nightly) with stock kernel CM.

Nevermind, went into recovery and deleted the corrupted one!
I have a backup file on my sd card from my old evo. The phones broken so i can't restore the backup. I wanted to pull some files out but I don't know how to go about doing it. I started making an emulated version of the phone but I'm not sure I'll be able to restore the backup in the emulated version. Any help would be great.
Put the file in your new phone and use a program like Nandroid Manager to extract what you need.
