Errors Lineage OS flashing: 1) Not tethering to hot spot 2) No access to Storage - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

First, I'm a relative newbie to flashing and I must say that these boards are incredible. I was able to bring new life back to my forgotten Note 8.0 by rooting and flashing the Lineage OS. I'm extremely happy with how it all turned out and couldn't have done it without all the great information on this site.
that said, i did encounter 2 minor issues. UPDATE: I WAS ABLE TO FIX #2.
1). The tablet will not connect to a mobile hotspot. The tablet sees the hotspot (my Samsung Galaxy 8 phone), but will not connect once the password is entered. The normal wifi works so it isn't the end of the world, but I was going to use the table as my cars navigation, but it needed to be powered by my phone since I have the wifi only version of the Galaxay 8.0.
2). When I connect my tablet to my computer, the computer recognizes the tablet, but when I click on it in the file manager it says "No Info" (not the exact words, but you get the idea).
UPDATE: I HAD TO OPEN DEVELOPER OPTIONS TO TURN OFF USB DEBUGGING FOR THE COMPUTER TO RECOGNIZE THE TABLET.
THEN: I tapped on the charging battery icon and a message appeared saying the following AND CLICKED ON "Transfer files to Windows or Mac (MTP)"
Use USB for
Charging
Just charge this device
Power supply
Charge the other connected device
File transfers
Transfer files to Windows or Mac (MTP)
Photo transfer (PTP)
Transfer photos or files if MTP is not supported (PTP)
MIDI
Use device for MIDI input
I TRIED TO PROPERLY ATTRIBUTE THE LINK THAT HELPED ME SOLVE THIS ISSUE, BUT I WASN'T ALLOWED.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

USB Connected but doesn't show up on my mac

How come the internal storage and the sd card doesn't show up on my mac? I can see that it is recognizing the phone though.
Tried it with windows 7 on parallels too for some reason they don't show up as drives. Can't seem to figure out why.
It's not on by default, you have to go to Settings>Wireless And Networks>USB Utilities>Connect Storage To PC
After you connect your phone to your computer, on your phone, bring down your notifications and click usb and then click connect usb data mode or whatever it's called. I had the same problem until I found out how it worked.
Both above answers don't give the full story. The default connectivity mode for the phone is a media connectivity mode that simplifies the process and allows you to access your data without unmounting the storage, but it's only supported by Windows. Macs can't connect that way.
86apex's information is one correct way to turn on the more typical mode that will then work with your Mac. It's just not that it's not on by default, it's just that the mode that IS on isn't supported by your system.
Megatr0n.'s instructions are only valid if you have USB debugging mode turned on. Otherwise you wouldn't see what he (I'm assuming) is describing. That said, turning on that mode (Settings/Applications/Development/USB debugging) and enabling that menu option would be easier than going through the steps 86apex listed every single time you want to connect.

[GUIDE] [Solution] How To Get Windows 8.1 To Recognise USB Mass Storage

How To Get Windows 8.1 To Recognise USB Mass Storage On Your Phone
I have had the problem for ages that when I connected my Samsung Galaxy GT-S5360 into my Windows 8.1 PC nothing happened - Windows 8.1 simply refused to recognise the device - not even anything in device manager - nothing - nada
However it would recognise the phone if I set the phone to download mode - but I want to use my phone as mass storage
Well after months of trying I finally found a really stupid solution
Solution
Install the usb drivers for your phone as normal
connect the phone to pc via usb cable (nothing happens other then a few beeps as normal)
now plug in any usb dongle that you have already installed on your pc - like a usb wireless mouse dongle
suddenly windows detects the phone and you can now set your phone to mass storage from the phone status bar
Every time you want to connect your phone in mass storage just plug it in then plug in the other usb dongle after

it maybe the brand of laptop too and the chipset of the laptop - there have been lots of problems with usb devices with windows 8.1 and inbuilt bluetooth too although manufacturers quickly released new bluetooth drivers as the windows 8 ones didnt work in windows 8.1
so this is just for those who have problems with their particular laptop
Similar Issue with Samsung Galaxy S
I had a similar problem when I needed to copy some files onto a Galaxy S. In the past, I had to ensure that USB Debugging was off, connect the USB cable and then select Mass Storage on the smartphone. Win 8.1 Explorer did not see the device although it showed up as SAMSUNG_Android in Eject Media and Device Manager had the phone listed under Universal Serial Device. I was able to access the phone on one laptop by selecting Samsung Kies as the connection method (showed up in Explorer under the device type rather than a drive letter) but this did not work on another laptop.
The steps described in "How to connect Android devices to PC with USB Mass Storage Mode" on device-recovery.com worked for me on both Win 8.1 laptops: enable USB Debugging, connect the phone, pull down the status bar, tap on the USB Connected entry and then Mass Storage.

What you said will not work for this phone because when you plug it into a windows 8.1 laptop the option to select connect to mass storage in status bar is not there - It just shows the phone as charging
The only way iv found on a windows 8.1 laptop with this issue (note it depends on your hardware to weather you have this problem) is to plug the phone into the laptop then plug any other dongle in - the option to then connect to mass storage suddenly appears in the status bar and you can connect as normal

[Q] Note 2 not recognized by PC

Hi friends
I am facing problem with my Galaxy Note 2.
Earlier when I first connected to PC it asked me whether I would like to use only as charging or for Media Transfer.
I choose Charging Only.
Now after automatic upgrading ( not rooted) I am not able to connect to my PC.
It only charges but I cannot use for Media Transfer, Even I cannot find where this option is.
After a lot of surfing in internet I changed pc, cable ( original), enabled USB debugging mode from developer options, enabled code *#7284#, *#0808# etc....
but the end result is same, All PC just says USB not recognized.
I have files in it which needs to be transferred so I don't want to be rooted or hard formatted.
Hope anyone can help.
Same...
Same problem....
Dear All
Sorry for bothering...
it was hardware problem, faulty IC.
I reapired it

Filetransfer over USB does not work any more, only in recovery. Lineage 14.1

I can no longer transfer files from my phone to my computer over USB.
If I boot into recovery I can transfer files just fine and the computer recognize my phone, but in Lineage it does not work.
I choose "transfer files" in the drop down menu, nothing.
I activated ADB, did not help.
If I plug and unplug my USB I hear the USB connected sound in Windows. But there is no phone showing up and I cannot access it to transfer files.
In device manager I see the phone under USB connections, looks fine.
One thing looks faulty though.
In device manager "Portable devices"
"MTP"
It says
"Reinstall the drivers for this device. (Code 18)"
I have reinstalled drivers many times, but it always end up like that.
What to do?
It always worked fine before until I updated Lineage in June last summer, after that USB file transfer never worked unless phone was in Recovery mode.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Lineage 14.1 newest nightly as of today.
Windows 7 64bit

Your best bet is to post this question within the following Official LineageOS thread for your device.

Good Luck!

I DO NOT provide support via PM unless asked/requested by myself. PLEASE keep it in the threads where everyone can share.
This thread is not the newest, but maybe this helps anyone: I had the same thing when I flashed the wrong version of vendor/firmware for my Pocophone F1. Also Wifi wasn't working. The newest version fixed all of this.
Try this workaround:
Open the Developer Options
Tap on Default USB Configuration (or something like that)
Choose USB File Transfer
---
Whilst transferring files, don't let the screen switch off, keep it awake, i.e. with youtube.
---
Yeah, this is a dirty workaround, but the only alternative I've found so far is to activate the USB debugging option (developer mode) to transfer my files with the "adb push" command.

It would be really good if u upload logs, people can't read your mind, finding errors based on description is really hard.

Even if this post is old, this is my solution. I post it now because someone could need it every time in future, because wanting to re-use an old phone with lineageOS.
it's quite simple,
1) I've just search on Internet for the following words "lge android net MTP" (my phone is LG, so change the first word with your phone's brand)
2) I've downloaded the Win10 driver from LG and installed it
3) when looking at devices manager (Win+Pause shortcut), the warning device has disappear)
Hope to help somebody with that
Even now there are people trying to solve the mystery and solve the USB file transfer issue.
My solution to the problem was very simple, the second I shut off the USB debugging mode in developer tools it magically appeared on my PC.
I have the s3 mini GT-I8190N running the android 7.1.2 Pie-Nougat version
Fix USB file transfer for LineageOS 17
Go to Developer Option > Default USB Configuration > File Transfer
I flashed Lineage OS 17.1 onto an LG G5 and have the same problem.
Plug in the usb to my computer and the device does not pop up in "This PC". Windows does give the sound of something being plugged in.
Changing to usb file transfer doesn't work. Turning off usb debugging mode doesnt work.
Uninstalling the LG drivers doesnt work.
