Is there any ported Google camera with hdr+? - Moto Z2 Play Questions & Answers

It would be great if Google camera with hdr+ ported for Z2 play

Unfortunately not yet. The main reason is apparently that the Google camera app wit HDR+ apparently needs special hardware (Hexagon 680) which is not present in the Snapdragon 626. So I would not hold my breath

One thing tested if it concerns Moto Z2 play. Apk version (for arm architecture, described as: "arm, nodpi") from July 2016 works fine. It contains: lens blur, photo sphere and panorama. It DOESN'T contain: hdr+ and slow motion.
I noticed so far one problem with this version: motion pictures are possible only at 720p. 1080p and higher doesn't work - application crashes.
There are also two newer apk versions dedicated to arm architecture (already with hdr+, video stabilization, smartburst and slow motion) - from October and December 2016. Both you can download and install, but if started - they both crash immediately. They are compliant with android 7.1.1 nougat, which you have on Moto Z2 play. Maybe ggle added HW recognition to the apk file, and if it isn't run on nexus or pixel - it crashes. I don't know the reason, why the mentioned newer versions doesn't work

I dont mind HDR+ yet I'd like to have google camera but none I downloaded worked, all closing itself. anyone has a working apk?

The real issue of the Moto z2 play is it's OS. Although the SOC is a 64-bit one, Lenovo made a 32-bit OS instead, and Google camera only supports 64-bit devices.

32Bit OS / Oreo / Camera2API / Google Camera

Got some questions since I bought device device recently. I've been using a Xiaomi MI5s for quite a while now - this one has got a 64bit system, so a) Camera2API and b) the Google Camera with HDR is working just fine. So I learned Moto is STILL using 32bit for this and other devices so the recent Google Cameras with HDR+ will NEVER work with this.
Might this change with the release of Oreo 8.0 on the Moto Z2 Play? Or do you guys think Moto will still be using 32bit with this?
Asking, because the low-light-performance with this Z2 Play is WAY worse compared to my MI5S with Google Camera and HDR+ enabled - it's a world's difference. This I use this mobile on the go and like to have quality snapshots with me, I might be dropping this one again because of this - although, despite this issue - I like it a lot!
Any ideas?
So.. got a reply from Motorola.
Android 8.0 for the Z2 Play will stay at 32bit - no 64bit OS for this phone planned. Only for the Z2 Force Models, which have 64bit already.
Guess I'll sell the Play again, then..

Google Camera with HDR+ functionality. As I stated already, low light performance isn't that great with the Z2 - so Google Camera Modded would allow this one to be WAY more detailed / sharp / etc, as the stock cam would.
But Google Camera with these features is 64bit ONLY. Which means, if this one stays at 32bit, we can never get GCAM MOD working..

Try this, see if touch/autofocus works. it's based on gcam 4.2.xx arm 32b version.
Edit : needs camera api 2 enabled by build.prop if crashes. add below line to build.prop.

hi! thanks for your support! camera hal has been enabled by me before.
your version works.. but only partially. hdr seems to work, too. but the results
are not usable nor is the handling. touching the camera button, it takes about 10 seconds
before the actual photo is done.. and it also works only 1 of 5 times. in 4 times it doesn't take
a picture at all. and the result is washed out..
are there other versions i could test? do you know that?
thanks again!
Just lower iso a bit and increase speed using professional mode, you'll get better image, but need steady hand
Use automatic mode for iso and speed reference
on my bike z2 Play does not work, it does not have root, do I need root to install this APK?

Even the pie beta for z2 play is 32bit

Working Google Camera HDR+

Saw the request for a working GCam setup for the X and I wanted to share this one works well for me. Nothing higher than 1080 60fps (edit: nope 30fps only) video and likely some other limitations but it's a simple APK so try it out. The HDR+ works, of course with some delay but it’s a decent compromise IMO.

The source was a reddit post from almost a year ago. Search in /r/android for “latest modified google camera”.
The settings that best work for (haven’t tried them all) are:
Model: Nexus 6
Configure camera: Nexus6 HDR+ auto
HDR+ burst frame count: 8 (Nexus 6)
Everything else at their defaults.
Be sure to close the app completely and reopen to try the settings. It’s way better than the AOSP camera. I tested this on my Xperia X on OmniRom 8.1.0-20180812 with MicroG (no google services).

Hm, so can you confirm that you can capture [email protected] video on a custom 4.4 based ROM?
Hm got me there. Thought it was 60fps but nope only 30fps.
I thought so. Anyways, thanks for the cam setup, hope it'll help anybody!
Crashes on launch, stock 8.0. I'm guessing Omni has Camera2 enabled?
Eait why doesn't this work oncother xoeria phones, does xperia x nit use a modified api?

Anyone find a Google camera mod that's takes advantage of the wide angle lens?
Night photo crashes the app, also unable to focus in this mode.
Video and regular photos works fine.
Not possible to switch between lenses.
The latest GCam based off 7.x found here : https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/google-camera-mods/google-camera-urnyx05-t3937515 supports toggling between the different lens (wide, main, tele) - you need to go to advanced to turn it on within the GCam app. However, the tele button is not routing properly and is instead going to the 5mp depth sensor, not the actual telephoto lens. The wide and main work fine though.
I just downloaded and installed the mentioned GCam. I can confirm that tele doesn't properly route (and portrait doesn't seem to work). If there's fix for that, it would be infinitely better than the bundled Moto camera app!
I compared side-by-side photos from stock vs Gcam and Motorola's image processing is almost on par with Google's. Portrait photos with the stock is excellent. I only use Gcam in odd lighting situations.
This one works great, and allows to use wide and tele lenses. Anly problem so far - night sight does not work with standard lens, and there is no slow motion.

Thank you! Can you share how you did set this up in order to use all lenses? Thanks!
Hello,
version 2.0 of wyroczens RN8P mod works with all lenses!
The only problem is, it crashes sometimes when zooming on all lenses.
You have some configs for GCam_RN8P_Wyroczen_7.3.020_2.0.apk (wyroczen) ?
PixelCam Plus v2.0
There is a new Port of GCam which works quite good
PixelCam Plus v2.0 - I was able to update the old GCam which you mentioned in that thread

Yw!
Actually i had the previous version installed and everything was set.
In Configuration you may go to "Lens Configuration" Activate the three lenses.
Here my setup is:
Main: Oneplus tree
Tele: Oneplus Double tree
Wide: OnePluse Triple tree
I hope that helps!
Cheers

With Android 10 finally available in "most"countries for our Moto Zoom, any suggestions for a new version of Google Camera that works fine with the 3 Zoom lenses?
Thanks in advance!

Try the Wichaya port: Wichaya V 2.8.1
The wichita seems to work great, not bug nor crash, even while zooming until now after fresh new install. Focussing seems also to be working well, just the telefoto lens ID (ID4) too much VW for my taste '-). Btw does anyone else found out that since A10, on regular moto camera 2 apps (7.3.6.14-denali), the 3x is not using the telefoto lens IN AUTOMATIC MODE, but instead the main lens digitally zoomed!!! (and as a 12MP output). Naturally, worse results than GCAM using the right lens at 3x. Can someone else confirm that silly behavior on the Moto cam App?? however, it does switch to the telefoto Lens if you choose MANUAL Mode. Strange!!?

Google Camera issue after Android 10 update

Hi everyone,
After I updated my phone to Android 10, I faced a problem with ported Google Camera so the issue was when I shot with no HDR+, the photo captured and stored as fast but with poor details, however when switching to HDR+ or Enhanced HDR+ there's no more processing and no stored picture.
I've made some search, I found that there's a problem with stock google camera of Pixel phone running Android 10 , and Google say that was a bug and they will roll out a correctifs for that in next days.
So, in my case, with Nokia, I found like solution is to simply reboot the phone and having the app work perfectly with some laggs in the start.
Have free to share yours.
What version of ported Google Camera are you using on Android 10? Google Camera version 7.x is designed for Android 10.
After some testing, I just installed this version: https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/cfiles/gcm1/GCam_5beta6.200105.0445build-7.2.018.apk
And it works pretty fine on my Nokia 6.1. This version is multilanguage and I like it. If the camera doesn't save pictures, just try these steps:
Open Gcam properties.
There is an option of battery optimisation which must be disabled. (Some users reported that this is needed for correct HDR+ processing.)
System modification settings enabled.
Reboot your device and then check it
Am using for now Parrot ported gcam version 7.2 and it work perfectly without laggs and hdr+ processing
