How to find out when and what update is the latest on my Moto Z2 Play ?
I am coming from a Nexus phone, and is used to know what update is the latest and when it got updated.
Is there anyplace, forum, webpage that lists or hints on updates from Motorola (Lenovo)?
I live in Norway and my phone is on reteu channel, and the security update on my phone is 1. july 2017. NPS26. 118-19 versionnumber
Google has released the august security update about a month ago.
What about Motorola ?

There is no official place where you can check that, as fas as I know,
However Motorola has released the August update for retbr and retapac quite a while ago (according to user reports in this forum).

Ok I know Lenovo now is the owner of Motorola. I also know that support for our products is almost like nothing...
The person at support did not check my softwarechannel, and said that latest update was 1. july security patch. It did not come any for august.
When I asked about when securityupdates usually comes out, he said usally montly, and sometimes they skip a month.
And then I understand why securityapps like antivirus and others sell really well, phones are not updated regularly.
He told me I could search for Motorola Blogspot, and there I could find announcements of new patches. Anyone heard of this, did find a page with news from 2016.
Still no security update or updates at all.
And we are now in the middle of september. My *NEW phone is still on 1. july patch of security. I have got one -1 update on my phone on "reteu" channel.
Sorry to say, I do not belive I will get any more updates, before maybee desember. (some say we will get Oreo, Motorola knows nothing) :fingers-crossed:
Still the apps force close, usally Chrome and Google+ is freezing and shutting down.
I have tryed to get latest update, clean cache and reset. Same old.
I have to admit I now regret buying something fram Lenovo. Now I have learned that lesson, and will pass it on to friends mm....

If this is a standard so, ca 1,5 month after the relase of a security patch from Google, our (almost brand new) Moto Z2 Play wil get the patch.
Maybee we will even get Oreo (8) this year.

After a lot of searching and frustration, I think I have found a searchstring on Mororola's pages that lists new updates mm.
So here is the link... and since it is a search, here it is.

And as you can see, a bit down, it lists the security update for september. But I belive the rolling out via OTA bit is reeeaaallly slow.

One user flashed the RETAIL version on his XT1710-07 device and it worked according to him (see here). Your mileage may very vary.

Hey, my fellow Chilango friend, have you been able to unlock your bootloader?, I'm gonna renovate my contract with AT&T the first week of October and I'm seriously considering grabbing me some modular goodness over the G5 Plus (or Galaxy A7) but I would love to know if we weren't screwed with one weird model that can be unlocked like the Verizon one.
to be honest I have not tried to unlock the bootloader, but I have known that the Verizon mobiles are complicated to unlock or some or that can not.
Oh shoot, can you just give it a try? its really easy to check if you can unlock your bootloader or dont, just follow this guide, its the same for all new Moto devices

My phone is now at security patch in November 2018. Of course it was a full flash. And now it always shows error when checking update. The newest update is January 2019. Has anyone got the newest update.zip for ATT?

Edit: Anyone got the January 2019 update via Lenovo Moto Smart Assist? I used it to update my AT&T Z2 Force from Nougat to Oreo and get the Nov 2018 update. I've been trying LMSA since last month and the Jan 2019 update doesn't appear. I'm using the phone unlocked on T-Mobile, so I won't get the update OTA.
I'm on 8.0 2018. If I check for updates I get the following error.

It seems to be common error. The Sprint i used before is too.
Today my Moto Z2 Force got the OTA January 2019 update. My phone is stock, unlocked, and on T-Mobile. My phone was on airplane mode, but WIFI was on (see status bar icons in screenshot). So the T-Mobile sim card inside didn't matter. I didn't do anything to initiate the update. It just showed up on it's own.

Weird. I've checked several days and nothing. I even connected on the Moto smart assistant on my computer and same thing.

Yeah its not showing up for me on smart assistant. I am on Cricket Wireless and used it to upgrade to Nov Oreo but now its always saying its up to date. When its not.. So annoying.

I got the update through lmsa, but I haven't installed it. It says that it will wipe my sms, call records, contacts and other data?!?! Since when does an update do this? Can anyone who's done this confirm if this really does wipe stuff?

When updating via OTA, there's no command to wipe the system. But when update using full fw, of course the phone will be wiped then

But in the smart assistant there's a separate option for a phone reset versus an update and this is considered an update because it says current version phone, newest version and it has a button that says upgrade. So you would think an upgrade would not do that wipe. And I upgraded from 7.x to 8.x with the smart assistant and it didn't wipe anything or even have that comment.

I just did mine. Updated to January 2019. Nothing wiped. It is weird it would say 'will' rather than 'might' like in case of an accident.

exactly, and we should consider bugs on very first release since as soon as I can see there is no beta version (well maybe it does exist and was not leaked, but as foor s9+ we are not able to check the bug in advance and report).

It's just the November update with a December Security patch.

Nothing jumps out at me and Samsung's statement on the new BVL7 release sheds no more light on it...
Nevertheless, it is a very large update.
Samsung's 3rd and latest Android 13 update, BVL7, fixes 93 security vulnerabilities...

I do not think I can ever recall such a swift update roll-out from Samsung.
In less than 48 hours, all of the European and Asian countries have been covered, including the carrier branded firmwares, and all of Africa, except South Africa have received this large security update. New Zealand and some of the South American countries have also received it.
It certainly looks as though Samsung are taking this large security update very seriously.
