TUTORIAL: How to speed up your Redmi 1S like you just bought it !! - Xiaomi Redmi 1S

First of all:
I bought my Xiaomi remdmi 1s several years ago.
Probably because the newest ROM and apps are getting bigger and bigger the redmi 1S gets slower and slower.
Just recently I changed a few elements on my redmi 1S and after one week of trial and error I know I have found one of the best solutions in performance improvement.
These are the steps to follow:
1) Just to be sure:
Make a full nandroid backup using TWRP and store the backup on the external SD card.
Make a complete backup using titanium backup and store the backup on the external SD card
2) Increase your system partition from 1Gb to 1,2 Gb.
Here is how to do that: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-1s/general/tut-repartition-redmi-1s-to-increase-t3506904
When you are finished; Check on the home screen of titanium backup if your system partition is increased. Here is a printscreen of mine:

}
3) Change all your partition formats from Ext4 to FTFS except for the system partition. The system partition stays ext4 otherwise the system won't boot up anymore. FTFS is much faster than Ext4
Here you can read how you can do that: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-formatting-ext4-to-f2fs-losing-t3352116. I used the TWRP nandroid backup and restore instead of the mentioned ADB variant.
When you are finished; Check on the home screen of titanium backup if your system partition is still increased. If not, do the partition increase of bullit 2 again.
When you are finished; Check with the app "diskinfo" if your format has been changed to F2FS(free version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.kuder.diskinfo&hl=nl)
4) Create virtual memory of 800 Mb using "Kernel Adiutor" (If you use a Nougat ROM 1200Mb performs better):
If Kernel Adiutor is already installed on your ROM use it, otherwise download here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grarak.kerneladiutor&hl=nl
After the virtual memory is expanded to 800 Mb. Reboot your redmi and check your virtual memory with "Diskinfo"
5) Use the app greenify. You get more working memory space.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-greenify4magisk-t3606277
6) Use the app L Speed. This app boosts virtal RAM (zRAM) en tweaks processor and memory.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/l-speed/tweak-l-speed-v1-0-02-02-2015-t3020138
7) All done !! :good:
Your Xiaomi redmi 1S should be working like you just bought it several years ago. The speed performance is enormous.

Back when I tried F2FS,the ROM I flashed didn't boot up .Which ROM did you use?
Also, how does increasing system partition affect the performance ?

tried on miui 9 beta
after exiting KA it goes back to default 510 mb

I don't think the ROM is relevant. The device should be rooted that's the main thing. I use RR ROM Marshmallow.
By increasing system ROM, the Swap partition can be made on internal system memory. It really makes a difference in performance.
Ps
If your system space goes back to the original space, look at the right settings in recovery.
Good luck!

Works on Resurrection Remix 5.8.4 (Phantom Kernel)

[Q] Memory Issues

hi there,
the official HTC Desire specs say it has 512mb internal memory, but mine says it has only a total of 148MB in the corresponding settings page. although i install all apps possible on the SD now i have a lack of memory... only 10MB left and i get a permanent icon in the status bar saying theres only little spacy left. and i dont have many apps installed and did a full wipe 2 weeks ago.
what can i do? did i maybe get a broken phone?
thanks in advance!
No your phone is fine, do some searing for A2SD+ or Data2sd.
i have App2SD installed! but having skype and stuff which is only installable on the internal memory uses almost all the space i have. most of my apps are on the SD though.
Not A2SD but A2SD+, this uses a ext partition instead of the froyo version.

Correct. I agree with TheGhost1233, for the moment, it's best to use A2SD+ and not FroYo A2SD. Data2ext is still in development and isn't completely finished yet. You still may find that not 100% or app data can be placed to the SD card because of developer restrictions (not all apps will move as they need to be modified by the developer).
cool stuff. thank you for your help! i will try it tonight after work!

FYI the official specs say the desire has 512mb rom not internal storage, rom includes all the partitions on the desire, boot, system, cache, data, recovery, radio hboot. blah blah blah
ok, so after a lot of months i managed to root and s-off my desire correctlty. i installed sandvolds android 4.0 rom with a built in a2sd script. im not exactly sure which one i chose, but it was "apps and dalvik on ext" but i still have the memory problem in install 5 or 6 apps and then i get the message that no free space is left to install more apps. i dont get it, arent apps supposed to be installed on the ext partition i chose during the installation? heres a screenshot of the memory status:

cool i will read it later! thanks man. can i just install it over my "old" a2sd installtion which came together with the rom?

[Q] [MIUI] i just installed it BUT What is wrong with my App2SD+??

So, as you see here the applications i`m RESTORING using Titanium Back up aren`t being installed on the App2SD ext but rather they are all going to the Internal Memory then i moved them (one by one) to the SD but the internal memory is still the same and the SD partition decreases but the ext partition stays as empty as ever,,,, So can anyone help me?
Note: i WIPED everything before installing MIUI!! ("Wipe data/factory reset")
There is none :] I emulate it with a Folder i've put into the dock.
Miui places ALL applications on multiple pages on the device. There is no actual app drawer unless you place all apps into a folder and move it to the dock. Are you positive titanium backup was sucessfully installed? Try doing a reboot on the device.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
LOLWUT!! NO APPDRAWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMGGGGGG (<<This is the first time IN MY LIFE i make this face in real life) THIS is VERY iPhonish xP

oh and thanks for having the courage to deliver such news!! (God bless Android ... he was such an AWESOME OS and a lovely .... OS)
its not a bad thing actually
i had the same shock but then i just made a folder called apps and put all my apps in it and then attached it to my dock
now it looks like this
Any Dev who can help
Anyone HELP me guys i flashed a new ROM to get a free space and a fast phone!!!
Problem is still here!!
I think your question may be a bit specific for the 'Desire General' section.
I think MIUI specific questions are best off in the relevant 'Desire Android Development' threads.
Just a thought.
PS
I think there are several flavours for the App2/wherever of MIUI -you'll have to follow the threads to get the full picture.
Same thing
Did you select the option, ''Force move to same location'' or something in Titanium preferences?
I too had the same problem when i was trying out a MIUI based rom. I thought it was a problem with the A2SD or something. So i reinstalled the rom, manually installed all my apps using appbrain and it was ok. The apps mostly went to A2SD partition like its supposed to.
I think its something to do with Titanium itself.
I read on miui page to use in a terminal emulator:
su
a2sd cachesd
I solved by this way..
have a look there

[Q] need help choosing hboot

Im currently running the RSK rom 7.2 with stock hboot and im wondering is there any point to changing to cmr2? I mean apart from changes to the memory layout what sort or performance changes will i see?
The more internal memory = more space for dalvik on internal storage = overall better performance.
regarding flashing kernels etc is radios the only thing that cant be flashed from recovery when changing to cmr2?
Also would i be able to use titanium to restore apps+data even though the app backups were made using stock?
You can't flash radios with .zip method in cm7-r2 due to low cache partition. You can do it with other method from PC.
Yes, I think that you can restore, but the app will see different available space.

Depends what ROM though, sometimes if the ROM throws too much stuff in the sd-ext partition you can get quite bad performance in comparison to using the Data hboot. Just sayin'.
Cache partition size matters for ICS roms?
I'm on Data++ and I have about 100 MB free space for apps on /data (without sd-ext).
Would switching to Bravo Sense table (with 35 MB plus cache partition size) improve the performance on ICS based roms (like BCM or Sandvold's) or these roms do not use that partition anyway?
I've found that a 2Gb ext partition works well for me (using RSK rom). I'm using the Data++ Hboot.

I use cm7 r2 running Sandvolds ICS with dalvik & apps to ext4, runs very smooth and fast. Class 4 16GB SD, 1GB ext4.

Confirm amount of built in ROM and RAM

Hi all,
Hi All, I bought the US Version 64 GB/4GB phone. How do you test/confirm the amount of ROM and RAM on your zf2? In Titanium Backup I see the following and wondering if this is a cause for concern. It shows ROM at 2.34 GB is this what others are seeing?
see screenshot below:

So what you are looking at is the system rom partition (closed system that can be accessed by root), your internal storage and your external storage. There is no mention of RAM there...
You need to check with some other app to find out your RAM...
ROM is your system partition, which is were you "system.img" goes, ram is around 3.7GB which is completly normal since the gpu takes ram and system runtime, and after that "user available ram" which is 1.4GB or so depends on how many apps your running etc...dont be concerned those numbers are completly normal.

Any suggestions on an app that does that? And whats the point of having 4 GB of ROM if it's partitioned and the OS can't even access it all?

Thats a safety measure in case the manufacture needs more space in a future OTA update, and you "can" access it with root, like i said stop worrying about rom partition size, sit back and enjoy your new phone.

With a 64GB Internal Storage, it wont make much difference
As for the app, look on the play store for a "Hardware Checker"

[Q] ROM storage is almost full?

Hi guys! I'm using zen2 - 551ML 2.3Ghz/32GB rom/4Gb ram.
Currently im running 2.19.40.22 stock firmware, my phone is rooted, i also flashed Project T v46 kernel.
I used Titanium to freeze all these system apps that i dont use, i did not uninstall any system app by far.
Then i checked Titanium to see ROM storage, and im quite shocking that the ROM storage (2,34Gb) is only has 30,8Mb free :crying:
I checked the other zen 2, same model, use by my friend, also rooted and i found that his phone has over 500+Mb free storage from the ROM storage (2,34Gb the same as mine).
Here is the picture of my phone's ROM storage >>> http://imgur.com/8s3lEd9

Since many system apps has updated to new version over playstore, i did not integrate them to system rom, i did not change any normal app to system app, but the ROM storage still get full ?
Please help me free some space on ROM storage, so i can push some useful app to system app and do a good back up.

This is my phone. I haven't had any problems with ROM storage:
Just curious, but what method did you use to apply your OTA?

Full wipe then flash full rom via TWRP. another method is adb sideload but i have never tried it.
