I have custom ROM installed, I need to know the exact steps to restore the phone as it was stock with recovery and stock MIUI OS.
like do I need to flash stock recovery first, then flash MIUI OS or few other steps to make sure I should not lose my IMEIs ?

Technically you won't loose IMEI by flashing roms unless you goof up. You can flash MIUI on any recovery and don't forget to backup your data. I would recommend not using MI Recovery because MIUI ROMs have reached EOL for this device and you might want to try something else soon. Hey, this may seem like a silly question but i would rather ask it than brick my device.
I have rooted and s-off my stock rom, i have installed all my apps and settings and ive got it just the way i like it. i have created a nandroid backup using clockwork mod.
I now want to try Gingervillian rom, ive got titanium backup to install all the apps back and that but what i want to know is:
Will i be able to restore my stock rom from the nandroid backup with all my apps and setting in tact, even though s-off is set and its rooted. i know a read somewhere that flashing a stock rom on a phone with s-off can semi-brick it... so will clockwork recovery do the same?
When you make a 'nandroid' backup via ROM manager/CWM Recovery, it makes essentially a carbon copy of the current setup of your ROM (not your radio, S-Off status, etc.). Literally everything is perfectly as you have it now. It just like doing a full HDD backup of your computer.
When you restore this backup, it simply brings back your ROM from exactly how it was. There is no effect on your root or S-off, or your radio.
So, if you do a nandroid backup, then wipe the device and flash another ROM i.e. Gingervillain, and make a nandroid of that, you can then freely switch back and forth between the 2 (or more) recoveries via ROM manager/CWM Recovery, with no issues.
The issues with bricking as you're referring to are if you for some reason try to somehow flash a non-rooted ROM, which would most definitely cause issues. In order to get back your phone to stock-stock-stock-stock (unroot and S-on), you will need to follow unroot instructions and flash an official unrooted RUU/PC10IMG.zip to get back to everything as it came out of the box.

Hey guys. It's been a while since the HTC 10 has been out and just throwing the question out there if anyone has figured out a way to make a backup of the stock Boot, Recovery, and System without flashing a custom recovery first ?
The reason:
I originally rooted my phone but couldn't get any of the OTA updates. Upgraded stock recoveries weren't available at the time and there were no RUU files for my carrier either. Eventually some of the upgraded stock recoveries became available but now we are on version 1.95.710.3 and again, no stock recovery is available for this version.
I want to be able to make a full backup (without flashing a custom recovery) so that I can flash TWRP to Boot, make a TWRP backup of Recovery and Rom, then do a restore from the original backup, flash TWRP to recovery and backup Boot as well. Then merge the 2 to make a full TWRP backup file to upload and post up on these forums for people with the same CID.
So, has anyone figured out a way to make a full backup without altering any of the boot, recovery or system partitions ?

Maybe? The stock images have a bunch of images that just need to be written to the partitions and TWRP has the (commandline) tools to do that. It doesn't have any automatic support that I know of.
If you're going back to stock after running a custom ROM, you probably want to do a full stock flash, which means using fastboot or MiFlash. You'll probably need to erase userdata if you expect the system to boot again (make sure you backup anything you want first). Don't lock the bootloader if you intend doing anymore hacking on your phone.
Hi all, I'm currently running miui EU rom 11.0.11 with bootloader unlocked and TWRP installed. However there are so many different twrp recoveries available all with different things working....
So far I've only flashed one rom since I've got the phone but with all these amazing looking custom ROMs around, I'd like to try out a few but it seems backup and restore is currently not possible.
TLDR: anyone know of a TWRP with working backup for Xiaomi redmi note 9s CURTANA?

You should use the latest recovery version available, I think now is the OrangeFox recovery, it's the unified (miatoll) version. To can make backup, the recovery need to able to handle the encryption installed by ROM. To restore the backup... another challenge. I using only data backup and when want to restore, I wipe data, flash the rom, wait for first boot (set same pin code as used in backup), than restore the data in recovery. In case of unlucky situation (encryption difference between "restored" and previous rom, the rom stuck at first boot and need to format data partition (will delete internal storage too!!).
I use ofox recovery, having stock rom in an sd card and migrate backup I just flash new rom and when I want to come back, I flash stock and restore migrate. Nandroid backups are a bit risky I think.
For context, I want to clear up a few things before trying to root so I don't end up bricking the phone.
So after reading a few threads it seems even recovering via twrp is messed up in this phone. Can someone shed some light on this matter?
Can I restore system, data, and boot partitions via twrp in case something goes wrong (while staying on official miui roms everytime, I don't intend to install custom roms) and I have to revert the phone back to the state it was in at the time of a backup?
It feels like at the very least we would be required to re-flash the entire firmware via mi flash tool and then restore whatever is needed via twrp later. Will this work?
Also I hear using twrp to install the official firmware is not a good idea, what's that about?

Custom ROMs and Stock ROMs differ in one aspect, which partitions are left untouched. Since stock ROM is a lot more invasive and formats all partitions, official flash method is recommended.
When you mess things up, mi flash tool is safest option. Its safe to experiment, backup, restore on boot+system+data in TWRP across ROM installs but don't mess up recovery partition. Remember to format data between ROM installs unless dirty flashing on same android version
