Review (part 1)
Introduction
This is the BLUBOO S1.
Hardware
Together with all Xiaomi Mi MIX clones released in the last few months, this BLUBOO S1 might not get the level of attention compared to already released models, but in reality this differs from others and might be considered as a new idea of the Mi Mix clone. It is powered by a Mediatek Helio P25 (seems to be real this time), with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM.
Unboxing
Even though the package looks enormous for the device, it doesn't include lots of accessories as you might expect: 1x Type-C USB Cable, 1x 3.5mm to Type-C Adapter, 1x 5V/2A USB Charger, 1x Quick Start Guide, 1x Warranty Card, 1x Bluboo Customer Paper, 1x Glass Screen Protector. 1x TPU Case, 1x SIM Card Tray Remover and the Smartphone (of course). There is no screen protector pre-applied.
Based on the Xiaomi Mi Mix design, also this one comes with a thin bezels design but when it comes to build quality everything changes. The chassis is completely made of plastic thus you can notice some crackling sound if you try to squeeze the device slightly but still it doesn't feel that bad considering the materials. Also, the whole device has been covered with an oleophobic coating so it is almost impossible to leave fingerprint marks on it, pretty impressive.
It is 14.40x7.56x0.86mm, as compact as other 5.5" inches devices following the same design so compact and ergonomically perfect, with a weight of 170g.
On the front side there is the usual 2.5D glass covering the FHD IPS panel. It is easy to notice how thin bezels but, due to the white color, there is an annoying black frame that interferes with the great design. The upper front side features a real earpiece (unlike the Mi Mix) and the sensors hole that includes both light and proximity sensors.
As regards the lower front side, there is the Fingerprint Scanner built-in into the Home Button, it can't be pressed physically though, and the front-facing camera on the right corner. There is some wasted space where they could have added some touch buttons.
On the back side there is a glossy back cover that seems to be made of Plastic.
The upper rear side of the device features the Dual Camera Sensor supported by the Flashlight (i am not able to recognize the amount of LEDs) and nothing else. Except from the BLUBOO logo in the center, there isn't anything at all since the speaker is located on the bottom.
Device
Screen
Not being a fan of AMOLED screen, the presence of an IPS panel on this device made me consider it pretty unique compared to other clones. The panel itself is not the best i have ever seen unfortunately, with a noticeable lack of contrast, but with a good white balance and brightness.
Its light sensor doesn't support smooth light changes so do not except an efficient auto-brightness mechanism, and its maximum brightness is enough for decent outdoor usage.
Viewing Angles are as good as you might expect from an IPS panel, nothing to complain about.
Camera
Just like on the BLUBOO S8, also this S1 features the same sensors, a Sony IMX135 (13MP) as a rear camera sensor and a Sony IMX190 (8MP?) as a front camera sensor. Do they work the same on this device? Well...no. It seems that the S1 features a wider-angle lens plus color accuracy is better. I think the new ISP included on the Helio P25 helps a bit for the latter.
Generically speaking, most photos do not look that bad, with a decent amount of details and not too much noise, but sometimes in case of high-light conditions such as outdoors, the software doesn't handle the exposure properly, as you can notice in one of the photos attached below. Shooting with HDR mode on solves the issue, but also requires lots of time to take a shot.
Macros look decent with no focus issues, and due to the exposure issue mentioned before, photos taken using the flashlight look darker than usual. Pretty funny, with flashlight you get darker photos, without you get brighter photos...lol.
As regards Video Recording, videos are recorded at 1080p resolution but there is a serious stuttering issue that causes frame-rate to drop constantly without any reason.
The Front-Camera is placed on the lower front side of the device, so you need to shoot photos with the device upside-down for selfies and so on. Color Accuracy is OK, but there is a pretty high level of noise.
Audio
Considering the limited amount of space available inside the device, it is normal to see that the Speaker is not super-powerful when it comes to volume but it is still loud enough, much better compared to the S8, and there is a little amount of low-frequencies.
No issues found with the Microphone, nothing to report about.
GPS
GPS Quality is not good at all unfortunately, with unstable and not accurate signal outdoors, and inexistent signal indoors.
Indoors on the left, outdoors on the right.
Telephony, Mobile Network & WiFi
Providing full european bands support (with 4G Band 20), the device was able to keep a stable connection to my 4G Network, with excellent signal reception and able to reach the same speed i reach on my daily Redmi Note 4. High quality 4G antennas have been used.
The same applies for the WiFi. With 5GHz networks support, connected at 135Mbps, the device is able to use my VDSL internet bandwidth completely, matching my laptop's WiFi speed. Well Done BLUBOO.
Battery Life
Just like what happened on the S8, also on the S1 the battery capacity doesn't match the declared value, but here the lack of capacity is even higher. (3500mAh declared, real ~2980mAh)
As expected, due to the lack of battery capacity, also battery life is pretty low, reaching only 7h 12m with the PCMark Battery Life test.
I don't know why BLUBOO hides this feature, but i have discovered that even though they include a standard 5V/2A charger, the device is compatible with Mediatek Pump Express up to 9V, so you can quick charge the device. Here you can see the proof, using my LeEco's charger.
Software
Thankfully BLUBOO choose to use a clean Android OS for this device, with no custom UIs or anything weird. It runs on the usual Mediatek AOSP based on Android 7.0 Nougat with August 2017 security patches. Unfortunately, just like what happened on the S8, also on the S1 there is an huge amount of bloarware pre-installed.
Even with that amount of bloatware, the device runs pretty smooth and doesn't stutter even while running intensive tasks.
Just like most Mediatek devices, also this one features the usual set of features such as Gestures, Double tap-to-wake and MiraVision.
Both Gyroscope and Compass/Magnetometer sensors are here.
As expected, when lots of bloatware is pre-installed, malwares are detected. Scan run using Malware-Bytes Anti-Malware.
Its fingerprint scanner is accurate and pretty fast to unlock the device, it isn't lightning fast but still it is one of the best available.

Benchmarks
I have used 3DMark, AndroBench, Antutu Benchmark, Epic Citadel, GeekBench 4, GFXBench, PCMark (Work 2.0, Computer Vision, Storage & Work 1.0) and Vellamo to stress the device to the limit. I won’t test Games or Video Playback because there are already some related tests included in these Benchmark suites.
3DMark – The Mali-T880MP2 GPU together with a FHD screen is simply maxed out, so some scores might not look that high.
AndroBench – Internal Storage performance is good, even though i might have expected an higher write speed.
Antutu Benchmark – I won’t say a lot about this benchmark, this isn’t as reliable as others. I’m providing this just for benchmarks lovers.
Epic Citadel – Unexpectedly, this benchmark seem to run pretty well on this GPU.
GeekBench – Single-Core performance seem to be fine matching other devices with the same CPU, but multi-core performance is really low meaning that something is reducing its real performance. It can't be thermal throttling because the device was not hot during this test.
CPU
Compute
GFXBench – Being an hardcore benchmark, it is normal to not see great results here, but it is a good point of referral for GPU's raw performance.
PCMark – Balanced Results for an Helio P25, matching most mid-range devices.
Work 2.0
Computer Vision
Storage
Work 1.0
Vellamo – The same lack of multi-core performance is noticeable here, it should be over 2700 if it was running properly.
Conclusions
This 2017 can be defined as the year of clones, with lots of devices copying each other and unfortunately lack of original design. Can this one differ from all other clones? Well, partially yes, thanks to the lightweight plastic chassis and an IPS screen, but it doesn't mean that it is better, or better, it is better for some things but worse for others.
Its high-quality Mobile and WiFi antennas make it one of the best device i have ever reviewed when it comes to signal reception, but the GPS antenna is disappointing and can't be ignored.
I still like the idea of including using this thin bezels design to make devices compact, but OEMs should also not ignore important parts of the device, otherwise it causes the choice to go for a standard full-bezels design.
Would i recommend it? Just like what happened with the S8, i can't recommend it right now because the OS is infected and i don't want anyone to use a device running on an infected operating system, but if BLUBOO fixes this issue that seems to be widespread for all models, then yes. I will keep following the situation, and if they fix the issue, i will write it here.
Pros:
Compact and Ergonomic
Bright IPS Panel
Lightweight
Running on pure Android with no custom skins
Excellent 3G/4G and WiFi signal reception
Cons:
Not the best IPS panel
Running on an infected Android OS
No Notification LED
Battery Capacity doesn't match the declared value
Disappointing GPS antenna quality

Yes, no NFC here. Unfortunately almost all chinese devices do not have it.

Nice job !
I have this phone since few days, the big problem are those two virus. We really need an alternative ROM and ROOT access on this phone.

Last minute update, i got a reply saying that an OTA Update will be released soon. Let's hope that this is true.

Hi guys !
Somebody have any news about alternative ROM, ROOT, or TWRP ?
best regards.

Dev. & Support thread added to first post.

Thank you Alberto96, hope you get us updated
A couple of questions, do you notice a huge battery drain when double tap wake up setting on? It's so damn sensitive! time to time i feel vibration on my back jeans pocket when i walk it shouldn't be active when proximity sensor it's acitve. Any workround ? i like this feature.

Double-tap to wake keeps the touchscreen turned on, on such a power-hungry device with relatively small battery that's normal to notice some battery drain.
No workarounds available.

I have this crup 45 days and from the first day the WiFi Disconnected after 2 seconds!!!

i know that i am not the only one with charging problem with another usb-c cable than the provided one. There is other exemples on youtube.
Do you find a working cable? it's not a problem of length of the connector, i have modified one cable to be longer that the origin, and it still not works

@Alberto96 Do you think GPS performance will be a problem due to the MediaTek MT6750T? I remember you said something about this SoC being non-impressive in terms of GPS (and needless to say all the complaints about the Doogee Y6 Max's gps performance).

Yeah it may be a problem, but based on my experience, OUKITEL is pretty good when it comes to GPS antennas so i guess they will be able to obtain something usable.
Nothing sure though, i hope to receive it as soon as possible and let you know
Review (part 1)
Introduction
This is the OUKITEL U11 Plus.
Hardware
Following some previous OUKITEL's flagship, also this one is powered by a Mediatek MT6750T (the low-cost Helio P10 basically), with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM. As regards the camera hardware, it features a Micron AR1335 (13MP) for the Back Camera, and another Micron AR1335s (i guess the 's' means small), still 13MP, for the Front Camera. Probably the only device from OUKITEL with a real 13MP Front Camera.
Unboxing
Packaging comes with basic accessories, the standard kit provided by OUKITEL: 1x Micro-USB Cable, 1x 1.5A USB Charger, 1x Quick Start Guide, 1x Warranty Certificate, 1x TPU Cover and the Smartphone (of course). A screen protector is already applied.
The design of the device is pretty unique in my opinion (excluding the camera positioning), with a Plastic Back Cover featuring a satisfying texture, nice to touch, but really slippery. Consider using the included TPU cover to avoid any possible accidental drop. Thankfully the chassis is made of metal, making the device pretty solid.
It is 15.45x7.93x0.87cm, definitely the most compact 5.7 inches device i have ever reviewed, with a weight of 217g, unfortunately pretty heavy considering that it doesn't have any metal back cover neither an huge battery inside.
On the front side there is the standard (well nowadays almost all devices have it) 2.5D Curved Display and the upper front side of the device features a Front-Facing Camera supported by a Single-LED Flashlight, an Earpiece, and the Sensors hole that includes Light, Proximity and Gesture Sensors. A Notification LED is here (RGB).
This is how the Notification LED looks like.
As regards the lower front side, there isn't anything at all because this device is using on-screen software keys and the Fingerprint Sensor is on the back.
On the back side there is the Plastic Back Cover (non-removable, but i think it isn't hard to remove considering the material), with the texture i mentioned before.
The upper rear side of the device features the Camera Sensor supported by a Single-LED - Single-Tone Flashlight, together with the Fingerprint Scanner in the center.
On the lower rear side, excluding the usual OUKITEL logo with other certifications, there isn't anything at all because the Speaker is positioned on the lower side of the device.
Device
Screen
The screen is probably the best part of this device, with the usual high temperature (cold) that most OUKITEL devices have, but in the same time, there isn't a single negative point about everything else. (white balance, colors reproduction...)
Its light sensor supports smooth light changes with a maximum brightness of ~400lux. Not bad at all.
Viewing Angles are as good as you would expect from a good IPS screen.
Camera
Just like most latest devices from OUKITEL, this Micron Camera Sensor used for the back camera works pretty good on Mediatek Devices, excluding the high noise level that unfortunately is present also on this device.
Something that i don't accept is the lack of an HDR mode, missing also on the K6000 Plus with a different camera sensor. I know that most OUKITEL devices had issues with this mode in the past, but it would have been better to implement it properly instead of removing the feature completely.
Outdoor Photos look pretty detailed, but slightly darker than usual.
The flashlight seems to produce enough light to support the sensor in low-light conditions, but it doesn't look to be 100% on-sync with the shot. (similar issue noticed on the K6000 Plus)
As regards Video Recording, the quality and frame-rate of 1080p30 videos is OK, as good as you would expect from a 13MP camera sensor.
Probably the most interesting feature of this device is the front camera. Being a smaller version of the Back Camera sensor (same model, same brand), photos look pretty similar, but also with the same small issue (not 100% on-sync flashlight). It is a wide-angle variant.
Audio
Unfortunately something that disappointed me is the Speaker Quality. It doesn't only lack low-frequencies, but, also, the volume is really low. Considering the size of the device, there should be enough space to fit a larger and more powerful speaker. I don't understand this choice.
As regards the Microphone, well it is completely the opposite compared to the speaker. It seems to have a really high sensitivity, recording with maximum clarity and balanced volume.
GPS
GPS Quality is almost excellent, with a really high amount of satellites outdoors, and a decent amount of satellites indoors. The signal isn't 100% stable though, sometimes dropping from 16 satellites to less than half. GPS accuracy is higher than average: 7 meters outdoors, 8 meters indoors. A little software adjustment is required.
Indoors on the left, outdoors on the right.
Telephony, Mobile Network & WiFi
Providing full european bands support (with 4G Band 20), the device was able to keep a stable connection to my 4G Network, with decent speeds (considering other devices tested in the same place) and mid-high signal.
WiFi 5GHz is supported, and thanks to the plastic back cover, there are no issues with signal interferences or shielding. Connected at 121Mbps, i was able to reach almost ~60Mbps. Probably not as high as expected from the Link Speed, but still better than using the 2.4GHz connection.
Battery Life
As my usual reviewing routine, i measured the real battery capacity using an USB Tester, and it seems to be way higher than declared, with an extra capacity of ~300mAh (declared 3700mAh, real ~4010mAh)
Luckily, PCMark run just fine on this device even though it is running Android Nougat. Other Mediatek Devices with Nougat (and also some with Marshmallow) caused the Benchmark to stop by itself after some hours. The result is really good, 10 hours for a 3700mAh battery...outstanding.
As regards battery charging times, unfortunately there is an issue with the OS, capping the maximum Charging Current to 0.6A instead of 1.5A, thus causing the charging procedure to be really slow. More than 4 hours required to charge the device completely.
Software
When a company keeps using a Clean Android OS for their devices, i am always happy. (even though the OUKITEL OS found on the K4000 Plus was impressive for a first release)
Using Android 7.0 Nougat, with latest security patches (at least at the time of the review), the device runs without any performance issue, the UI is smooth, with no crap pre-installed.
Just like most Mediatek Devices, also this one features MiraVision, Gestures (such as tap-to-wake) and so on...
There is no Gyroscope or Magnetometer/Compass...as well as the entire OUKITEL line-up. I have already requested this feature many times to the company, even mentioned in all my reviews, but they keep ignoring the request. They could have included at least the Magnetometer/Compass, it is essential in 2017.
No malwares detected with Malware-Bytes Anti-Malware using latest definitions.
As regards the Fingerprint Scanner management, there isn't any issue to report. It works as good as it should, maybe slighly slower to unlock compared to latest OUKITEL devices, but still fast enough.
From a developer prospective, considering the delay between the recognition of the fingerprint and the power-on procedure of the screen, i guess the delay is caused by a slow response-time of the screen.
3DMark – Thankfully the Mali-T860MP2 is able to beat the old T720 used on the MT6753 with no doubts.
AndroBench – Thanks to the Samsung eMMC, there are no I/O performance issues at all. Balanced Read/Write speed.
Antutu Benchmark – I won’t say a lot about this benchmark, this isn’t as reliable as others. I’m providing this just for benchmarks lovers.
Epic Citadel – 41FPS is a good result for smooth frame-rate with most games.
GeekBench – CPU Performance isn't special compared to other MT6750T (8x Cortex-A53) devices, similar performance. Still too low single-core performance, but decently high multi-core perf.
CPU
Compute
GFXBench – As expected, this hard-to-handle benchmark struggles to run on this GPU, but it is really demanding compared to what games really require to run.
PCMark – Usual scores for this Benchmark Suite, do not need to be commented.
Work 2.0
Computer Vision
Storage
Work 1.0
Vellamo – Browser Score seems to be a bit lower than expected, but the CPU score seems to be reasonably high, almost beating the Helio X10 (MT6795) of the Meizu MX4.
Conclusions
Being a reviewer i am pretty sure you might think that writing the conclusions paragraph is pretty sure for me, but especially for devices that do not have any major issue, this becomes a pretty hard task.
This is a device with a great potential, with most of it already unlocked, but there are some small improvements that must be made to make it perfect, such as the out-of-sync Flashlight and slow screen reaction to the unlock.
With a good balance between performance and battery life, i can consider this device as something that should not be ignored at all. I like the design and, most of all, the super-bright and sharp screen.
Pros:
Unique Design
Compact and with small screen bezels
Android 7.0 Nougat with latest security patches
RGB Notification LED
Outstanding Battery Life
Overkill Front Camera
Cons:
Slightly slow screen turn-on time (response to the power button or unlock)
Disappointing Speaker Quality
No Magnetometer/Gyroscope Support
Slightly out-of-sync Flashlight
Slow Charging Time (software bug)

I've seen phones with the MediaTek MT6750t CPU that can access the GSM frequency bands 850/1900, but this phone doesn't come with them. The mediatek website also says this CPU can access all frequency bands so it must be possible. How can I unlock these bands for my oukitel? Thank you.

You can't, only OUKITEL might be able to do this via a firmware replacement.

Review (part 1)
Introduction
This is the CUBOT Magic.
Hardware
Copying the name and design from the Honor Magic, this CUBOT Magic could be considered its cheap clone. Powered by a Mediatek MT6737 CPU with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of ROM, it is clear CUBOT only wanted to get the same design, and not the same performance.
Unboxing
Packaging is for the first time different than all previous CUBOT devices, and comes with some accessories: 1x Micro-USB Cable, 1x 5V/1A Charger, 1x Quick Start Guide, 1x TPU Cover (no more shock-proof unlike previous CUBOTs), and the Smartphone (of course). Somehow they are not including any screen protector in the box.
The chassis is amazing in my opinion, even though it isn't made of metal. They managed to make it as curved as a piece of soap, and i am not kidding. It literally slips if not used with the TPU cover. There is also something negative though, it is a fingerprint magnet. The oleophobic treatment is completely absent.
It is 14.64x7.09x1.00cm, pretty compact but a bit thick considering the battery size, and it weights 165g, i think it should have been slighly lighter for the same reason written before.
On the front side there is the super-curved screen (more than the usual 2.5D) and the upper front side of the device features a Front-Facing Camera supported by a Single-LED Flashlight, an Earpiece, and the Sensors hole that includes Light, Proximity and Gesture Sensors. A Notification LED is here, but it only supports one color: Blue.
Here you can see the Notification LED in action.
As regards the lower front side there is the soft-keys touch area with Recents, Home and Back keys.
On the back side there is removable back cover that hides the removable battery and all slots.
The upper rear side of the device features the Dual Camera Sensor supported by a Dual-LED - Single-Tone Flashlight, and the CUBOT logo slightly below.
On the lower rear side, excluding the usual certifications and model name, there isn't anything at all because the Speaker is positioned on the lower side of the device.
Device
Screen
Another really positive thing about this device is the screen. It is bright, super-sharp and with an excellent color accuracy with no banding, probably one of the best 5 inches screen i have ever found on a smartphone.
Its light sensor supports smooth light changes with a maximum brightness of ~500lux.
Viewing Angles are as good as you would expect from a good IPS screen, but the more-than-usual curved screen reduces slighly the viewing angles on the sides.
Camera
Of course not everything can be excellent on a device, and this is where it lacks some points. First of all, it is important to say that, even though this device has an MT6737 (not T), the Dual Camera implementation is REAL. The device handles two cameras properly, and both back cameras are recognized.
The software though is still the same as on all dual camera mediatek devices, with the only difference that if you cover one of the back camera sensors, it automatically switches camera between the left or the right one.
Photos look detailed and with some noise pretty noticeable, i would say average quality for the price target.
The Flashlight is powerful, synced with the shot, but as you can notice macros are insufficient.
Here you can see some shots taken using the Bokeh mode that SHOULD be using both cameras in the same time.
As regards Video Recording, with the quality set on "Fine", videos are recorded at 720p30 with a pretty stable frame-rate.
The front-facing camera is decent, usable for video-calls or such, just do not expect super-detailed photos even though there is a Flashlight supporting the shot.
Audio
Just like on most CUBOT devices, the speaker is sufficient, with the usual lack of low-frequencies and average volume. The earpiece though is a completely different story, it is just perfect, with no lack of frequencies at all and a pretty high volume.
As regards the Microphone, it works decently well in any case (in-call, VOIP, etc...), nothing to complain about.
GPS
GPS Quality is average, as good/bad as most MT6737 devices, it might be improved with future OTA updates.
Indoors on the left, outdoors on the right.
Telephony, Mobile Network & WiFi
Providing full european bands support (with 4G Band 20), the device was able to keep a stable connection to my 4G Network, but the speed, somehow, seems to be capped. This is something that should be improved with an OTA Update as soon as possible.
Thankfully the WiFi hardware is noticeably better, even though only 2.4GHz networks are supported, i was able to reach almost ~46Mbps, a pretty rare result for MTK hardware. Impressive.
Battery Life
Battery Capacity seems to be slightly higher than declared, common on CUBOT devices (i will never forget the CUBOT Dinosaur, check my review if you want to see something unbelieable). Declared 2600mAh vs Real ~2850mAh.
The PCMark Battery Test provided a barely sufficient result for a battery with this capacity, i guess this can be improved with future OTA updates. (Lowest brightness, WiFi on, Airplane Mode off, Sync on)
As regards battery charging times, due to limited 5V/1A charger, it isn't possible to charge the device completely in less than 2 hours and 45 minutes more or less. It is limited by software so do not expect faster charging times with a more powerful charger.
Software
Running on Android 7.0 Nougat with latest July 2017 security patches, and most important, with no bloatware preinstalled, the device runs with no issues at all, even though the CPU isn't that powerful. But...the secret was easy to find. In order to avoid the well-known MT6737 performance limitations, they choose to compile the OS with no 64-bit support, meaning that there is less load on the CPU and less RAM usage. The result is just perfect.
All Mediatek Features such as MiraVision, Gestures (somehow in Spanish ), and other features are present.
As expected, there is no Magnetometer/Compass and Gyroscope.
No malwares detected with Malware-Bytes Anti-Malware using latest definitions.
Review (part 2)
3DMark – Thanks to the 32-bit OS, GPU Performance is higher than some other MT6737 devices.
AndroBench – eMMC Performance is sufficient as regards the Write Speed, good as regards the Read Speed.
Antutu Benchmark – I won’t say a lot about this benchmark, this isn’t as reliable as others. I’m providing this just for benchmarks lovers.
Epic Citadel – Reaching almost 30fps, 3D performance is barely sufficient for smooth gaming.
GeekBench – 4x Cortex-A53 CPU Cores clocked at 1.25GHz, can't be any better.
CPU
Compute
GFXBench – The poor Mali-T720 GPU doesn't have any oxygen to run any of these tests decently.
PCMark – Just like what happened with my last review (MT6580 device), also on this one the Video Editing test fails so i guess there is something wrong with the latest PCMark version.
Work 2.0
Computer Vision
Storage
Work 1.0
Vellamo – This is where you can notice that you are dealing with a low-end SOC.
Conclusions
CUBOT Magic...even though i don't like to see any brand copying a device's design, i have to say that they managed to do a great job with this one. Its design together with the touch-and-feel (i hope this is the right way to say it), does not make it look like a cheap low-end MT6737 device.
Overall the device is good, with enough performance to handle most daily tasks, easy to carry thanks to the compact size and with an in-call quality rare to find on a chinese device. It isn't perfect though, just like all devices, since you have to forget about macro photos and high-speed 4G connection (hopefully fixable with an OTA update).
So, do i recommend it? Unless you can find something more appealing for the same price, yes.
Pros:
Mind-blowing touch-and-feel
Excellent in-call quality
Removable Battery
Plenty amount of RAM (3GB)
Great WiFi Performance
Cons:
Single-Color Notification LED
No Gyroscope & Magnetometer/Compass
Low 4G Connection Speed
Fingerprint Magnet (no oleophobic coating)
Out-of-focus Macro Photos (while using the Flashlight)

Oh, thank you for the quick reply.
Thats a pitty, the specs and design looks really good.
Are there at least some smart gestures to start camera or to wake up the screen?
Great review Alberto96, if you need help with dev, im happy to do what i can!
i just recieved my Cubot Magic, so far so good im just trying to find a way to root it..
@ Napfgeist, there are none in the settings that i can find however if we can root im sure we can figure something out..
Any news on custom rom development?
Hi, i bought this device 1 month ago and is going good, my question is: if I unlock bootloader and root this device will I lose Warranty?

You don't need to unlock the bootloader, but you need TWRP in order to root it, something that isn't available yet.
Did you maybe have Cubot R9?
I dunno to buy R9 or Magic. So Magic has 7h SOT?
I read that R9 had 4h of SOT but it looks like with same battery.
Battery request
Thank you for this extensive review. I wish I understood the importance of most of the details but some things are meaningful for me and I have ordered this model online. While waiting for my phone I'd like to know which manufacturers sells batteries for this model - I prefer a real battery to some item that needs attaching and holding if the fitted battery is too low/empty. And is it possible to use this model with more powerful batteries - I'd like a little more time from a charge. Thanks again, I feel confident to be getting a no-nonsense reliable phone to enjoy.

Review (part 1)
Introduction
This is the BLUBOO S8.
Hardware
Starting from the Xiaomi Mi Mix, with its innovative design that changed the whole smartphone industry, and proceeding with Galaxy S8's 18:9 aspect ratio, almost all companies started to work on devices purely based on both ideas, some of them cloning the device entirely, others just taking inspiration from the idea.
The BLUBOO S8, as the model name suggests, is meant to be a clone of the Galaxy S8, even though it is missing lots of features present on it, such as the headphone jack (yes....seriously), iris scanner and other minor things. Being powered by a Mediatek MT6750T, with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of Storage and a HD+ (1440x720) 5.7" inches, it might be defined as a Galaxy S8 Mini Value Edition.
Unboxing
With this device the amount of accessories is not too bad, pretty rich actually: 1x Type-C USB Cable, 1x 5V/2A USB Charger, 1x 3.5mm to Type-C Adapter, 1x TPU Cover, 1x Plastic Screen Protector, 1x SIM Card Tray Eject Tool, 1x User Manual and the Smartphone (of course). There is no screen protector pre-applied.
Even though the device i got is an engineering sample, the quality is really high considering the price target. Its chassis is 100% made of aluminum and i haven't noticed any imperfection. The device feels solid, and provides enough grip since the corners are not completely curved.
It is 15.11x7.15x0.98cm, the most compact 5.7 inches device i have ever tried, but it weights 199g, a lot considering the size.
On the front side, underneath the 2.5D glass, there is the 18:9 IPS screen with pretty nice rounded corners and the upper front side of the device features a Front-Facing Camera, an Earpiece, and the Sensors hole that includes Light, Proximity and Gesture Sensors. A notification LED is here, and seems to be RGB.
The Notification-LED in action.
On the lower front side there isn't anything at all, on-screen software keys are used.
On the back side there is the Glass (or Plastic? Considering the weight i guess glass) back panel with a nice texture underneath the glass.
The upper rear side of the device features the Dual Camera Sensor supported by a Dual-LED Flashlight (not Dual-Tone), with a rectangular fingerprint scanner just below, and not on the side luckily.
On the lower rear side there isn't anything at all because the speaker is located on the bottom.
Device
Screen
With its HD+ (1440x720) resolution, spread on a 5.7" surface, the screen might not result super-sharp, but in reality it looks sharper than what i would have expected, with a decent color reproduction. Of course being one of the first screen panels created for this usage, i think it is normal to not be perfect yet.
The light sensor is accurate supporting smooth light changes, and screen brightness is enough for an acceptable outdoor usage.
Even though this is an IPS panel, viewing angles seem to be somehow affected by the glass, that doesn't result to be 100% in touch with the display, causing also a weird effect on camera.
Camera
BLUBOO choose to use a mature camera sensor on this device, the good and old Sony IMX135 camera sensor, able to shoot decent photos in good light conditions. Of course it can't be compared with the Galaxy S8's camera sensor, this is just a low-mid range device.
Something that impressed me is the flashlight, probably one of the most powerful i have ever found, able to provide an huge amount of light to get almost perfect shots.
As regards Video Recording, 1080p videos are recorded at 30FPS with a pretty interesting stable 30fps frame rate, and the Front Camera is a Wide-Angle variant still made by Sony, but it is whole-new sensor that i never heard of: IMX190.
Audio
In the past, BLUBOO released a device with the best speaker i have ever found on a smartphone, the Maya Max, but in this case, unfortunately, the speaker is pretty bad. Low volume, missing low-frequencies and with a noticeable static noise.
As regards the Microphone, it is good, everyone was able to hear me properly in-call.
Similar speaker situation applies for the Earpiece too, where the audio has low volume and lack of low frequencies, but the sound is pretty clear with no noise.
GPS
With GLONASS support, the GPS seem to lock a plenty amount of satellites and the signal is stable, accuracy isn't the best though (~7m outdoors), might be improved with future OTA updates.
Indoors on the left, outdoors on the right.
Battery Life
Measuring the battery capacity using my USB Tester, i have discovered something pretty confusing. BLUBOO declares 3450mAh of battery for this device, but, even after multiple charge/discharge cicles, its real capacity doesn't get any higher than ~3100mAh, and the result is clearly confirmed by the battery test with PCMark.
Reaching 8 hours of battery life based on the PCMark battery test, it is clear to say that this is a result for a 30xxmAh battery, and not 3450mAh. As always, the test has been run at lowest brightness, WiFi on, Sync on and no battery saving options enabled.
The included 5V/2A charger is fast enough to charge the battery in ~2 hours, it is limited by software so even a more powerful charger won't make it any faster.
Software
I am not 100% sure, but this is might the second device i review running on 360 OS, this time based on Android 7 Nougat though. The OS is clearly a chinese-only operating system, adapted to be used with Google Services, and this is noticeable by the missing Google Setup Wizard after a factory reset.
Anyway, the OS is pretty snappy, but full of bloatware. Some apps can be disabled, but others no. Hopefully Bluboo will at least reduce the amount of preinstalled apps because some of them must be avoided. (e.g. UC Browser, terrible!)
Except from Mediatek's MiraVision, there is no other feature such as gestures or double tap-to-wake available.
A Magnetometer/Compass is here, useful to improve on-foot navigation.
When lots of bloatware is preinstalled, it isn't a surprise to see that Malwares are detected.
The Fingerprint Scanner is decent, being rectangular it requires some practice before getting the finger recognized properly, but it is accurate and unlocks the device almost instantly.
Review (part 2)
Telephony, Mobile Network & WiFi
The device has full support for European 4G Networks, and signal reception is good. Running a standard speedtest, the result is decent, just a bit lower than what i usually get in the same position. (technically it should be way higher but this is how 4G networks are in Italy...)
WiFi Performance is great considering the WiFi Chipset used on the MT6750T, connected at 135mbps to my 5GHz WiFi Connection, it almost gets the maximum reacheable with my VDSL internet connection.
3DMark – Pretty standard performance for this SOC, low-mid end GPU.
AndroBench – This result is a bit confusing, since read speed is outstanding for an eMMC, but write speed is pretty low.
Antutu Benchmark – I won’t say a lot about this benchmark, this isn’t as reliable as others. I’m providing this just for benchmarks lovers.
Epic Citadel – Probably due to the HD+ resolution, this benchmark crashes everytime i try to open it.
GeekBench – CPU Performance could have been better for single-core performance, a bit lower than usual, but multi-core performance matches the maximum obtainable with this SOC (MT6750T: 8x Cortex-A53).
CPU
Compute
GFXBench – Thanks to the limited HD+ resolution, OpenGL benchmarks are not as bad as on devices with the same SOC but running on a higher res screen.
PCMark – Quite decent results, not the best, neither the worst.
Work 2.0
Computer Vision
Storage
Work 1.0
Vellamo – The same consideration said for the Geekbench benchmark is valid also here regarding CPU power.
Conclusions
BLUBOO S8, as far as i know this is the first Galaxy S8 pseudo-clone ever released, and, even though i don't own a real Galaxy S8, i must admit that the device's quality is great, as regards the build quality of course. If the OS was based on pure Android 7.0 Nougat instead of 360 OS, and if BLUBOO its attention on audio quality too just like they did for build quality, it could have been declared as perfect with no doubts.
But, as you can see, it has its own flaws, and together with the lack of an headphone jack, present on the real Galaxy S8, the device can be defined as a good first try to provide a low-mid end alternative to the way more premium device made by Samsung.
So, do i recommend it? If BLUBOO fixes the malwares issue, then yes, otherwise i am obliged to say no since i don't want anyone to get an infected device. Keep following the thread to know whether an OTA update fixes this major issue or not.
Pros:
Impressive Build Quality
Decent Camera Sensors
Presence of a Magnetometer/Compass
RGB Notification-LED
Compact and Easy to Handle
Cons:
Absence of a Gyroscope
Infected and Bloated 360 OS
Real Battery Capacity lower than Declared
Missing Headphone Jack
A bit heavy considering the size

Bluboo S8 Wireless Charging
I would like to fit a built-in Qi wireless charging module like the Galaxy as my car is equipped with a wireless charging pad. I know there are external ones that plug into the charging port on the phone but would like to fit one inside the case to maintain the aesthetics of the phone. Without resorting to soldering, has anyone found a module/charging receiver card that is suitable?

Review (part 1)
Introduction
This is the HOMTOM S9 Plus.
Hardware
In the last few months lots of "bezel-less" or MI MIX/S8 devices have been released as never before, and this HOMTOM S9 Plus is no exception. This S9 Plus by HOMTOM is a MI MIX inspired model but with way different characteristics, starting from the chassis design and ending with the internal hardware.
The device is powered by a mid-range Mediatek MT6750T with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of Storage all powered by an huge 4050mAh battery that, apparently, offers even some extra juice. More about this in the following paragraphs.
Unboxing
Compared to the usual rectangular packaging, this one feels more premium, even though the contents might leave you slightly disappointed: 1x Micro-USB Cable, 1x USB OTG Cable, 1x 5V/2A USB Charger, 1x User Guide, 1x SIM Card Tray Removal Tool, 1x Plastic Screen Protector, 1x Hard Plastic Cover (no TPU) and the Smartphone (of course). A screen protector is already applied.
This is one of those devices not made for maximum comfort in hand since, even though it is compact, it is slightly "bricky" with no rounded corners. Other than that, it feels solid and there are no visible imperfections anywhere, neither visible glue between the chassis and the back cover. You can feel the coldness (or the opposite, since it works as an heatspreader) of the metal, and this is always a good sign.
Considering the 6 inches screen, this device is one of the most compact i have ever tested (15.8x7.37x0.97cm), as big as my Xiaomi Mi Note 2 that features a 5.7 inches screen. The same can't be said for the weight, since it is slighty heavy considering that there is no metal on back: 226g.
On the front side there is the usual 2.5D glass with the IPS panel underneath and the upper front side of the device features an Earpiece and the Sensors hole that includes Light and Proximity Sensors. A Notification LED is here, and it is an RGB variant.
Here you can see the LED in action.
On the lower front side there is the Fingerprint Scanner and the Front-Facing camera. Unfortunately there is lots of wasted space where hardware buttons could have been fitted without any issue at all.
The back side features a glossy plastic surface that produces some nice light effects. Apparently, there is no oleophobic coating so it is a fingerprint magnet.
The upper rear side of the device features the protruding Dual Camera Sensors with a small rounded Single-LED Flashlight next to them.
On the lower rear side there isn't anything important except the HOMTOM logo since the speaker is located on the bottom.
Device
Screen
An HD+ (that is basically HD with some extra vertical pixels) screen for a 6 inches surface isn't the best idea to be honest, since the pixel density gets too low decreasing the viewing experience, but i must say that on this device i can't notice any serious quality decrease compared to a FHD panel, meaning that HOMTOM opted for an high-quality one.
As regards its color accuracy, it is decent but not the best since the color temperature needs to be calibrated in order to get rid of a blueish tint noticeable on my unit.
No issues noticed with the light sensor, it works just fine and it is accurate. Here you can see the screen brightness.
Viewing Angles are as good as you would expect from an high-quality IPS panel.
Camera
For some reason HOMTOM choose to use an outdated Sony IMX135 13MP camera sensor for the rear camera, that technically isn't tol bad, but in late 2017 there are way better options that could have been choosen. Anyway, photos look decent with accurate colors but there is some noise noticeable even in photos taken outdoors. HDR works perfectly though, almost a must to get some higher level of detail.
Here you can see some random photos, including macro shots.
As expected from a Single-LED flashlight, it is just enough to support the sensor in low-light conditions, just don't expect superb results.
Videos are recorded at 1080p30 with an overall stable frame-rate and acceptable quality, not the best neither the worst. You can't get anything better from this camera sensor.
The front-camera is a pretty standard 8MP sensor (GalaxyCore GC8024) that is pretty good for almost all kind of usages. Average quality, nothing to complain about.
Audio
The speaker used for this device is pretty powerful and provides a minor amount of low frequencies at maximum volume, but a minor distortion is noticeable. In-call Quality is just fine, and the earpiece is loud but lacks low frequencies at all, as usual on those bezel-less devices where the isn't much space for the speaker.
Something that is perfect, even though there is no second microphone for noise suppression, is the main microphone. It provides a crystal clear recording with no issues with the volume.
GPS
Mediocre GPS Signal and Accuracy, even though GLONASS is supported. It is stable though so no issues with navigation softwares.
Indoors on the left, outdoors on the right.
Telephony, Mobile Network & WiFi
Just like most chinese devices, also HOMTOM provides full european 4G bands support (including Band 20), and i noticed the same lack of signal reported in the GPS test. I am not saying that it is really low, but not as high as it should be, and the lower than usual speed confirms it.
Unfortunately the same lack of signal has been noticed in the WiFi tests. It supports 5GHz networks but again the signal isn't excellent, as a result the download test does look like it has been made on my 2.4GHz connection instead.
Battery Life
In order to be sure that this result was accurate, i tested its real battery capacity two times (always using my trusty USB tester) and i can confirm that the battery capacity seems to be higher than declared, almost 300mAh of extra power, always appreciated ^^. (real ~4305mAh, declared 4050mAh)
Considering the 6 inches IPS panel and the not so power-friendly Mediatek SOC, the PCMark Battery Test is impressive. 12 hours and 17 minutes at minimum brightness, WiFi on and Sync on. Well Done HOMTOM for the excellent power optimization.
Sadly no Mediatek Pump Express charger has been provided for faster charging considering the battery capacity. The 5V/2A charger manages to recharge the device completely more or less 3 hours.
Software
Being the first HOMTOM device i ever review, i wasn't aware of their Custom UI. The device runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with outdated security patches (c'mon HOMTOM, you can't release a new device with old software!), with a nice-looking theme and no preinstalled bloatware (except Xender but it can be uninstalled). It runs 100% smooth with no lags even under high-load, mainly thanks to the HD+ only screen that reduces the GPU-load.
Some Mediatek Features are here such as Gestures, Tap-to-Wake, etc...including MiraVision.
Unfortunately there is no Gyroscope or Magnetometer/Compass.
No malwares detected with Malware-Bytes Anti-Malware using latest definitions. Kaspersky Anti-Virus causes the device to self-reboot for some weird reason.
As regards the fingerprint scanner, it is accurate and fast enough. Not the fastest neither the slowest. It is possible to use it to control the UI, something that can be choosen from the Fingerprint settings.
Review (part 2)
3DMark – MT6750T (Mali-T860MP2 GPU) + HD+ screen = pretty good 3D performance. Way higher compared to FHD alternatives.
AndroBench – Excellent I/O Performance, an high-quality eMMC has been used. One of the fastest found on a MT6750T device.
Antutu Benchmark – I won’t say a lot about this benchmark, this isn’t as reliable as others. I’m providing this just for benchmarks lovers.
Epic Citadel – Excellent result for a mid-range SOC, really enjoyable games on this device.
GeekBench – Of course the HD+ res. doesn't improve CPU performance, similar to other MT6750T devices and enough for most basic tasks.
CPU
Compute
GFXBench – The same thoughts written for the 3DMark benchmark are valid also for this one.
PCMark – Overall high scores, still impressive Storage performance also here.
Work 2.0
Computer Vision
Storage
Work 1.0
Vellamo – Weird result for the Chrome Browser test, really low for some reason, while other scores are just fine similar to other MT6750T devices.
Conclusions
As a device meant to compete directly with other 6 inches alternatives, this is absolutely not a bad one. Sure, HOMTOM could have used better antennas or a better rear camera sensor, but it is impressively complete and well-made.
If the company releases an OTA Update with up-to-date Android Security Patches and, hopefully, some improvements to the camera software, it might differentiate itself from others. In the current status though, it is just a reasonably good device with some minor flaws.
Do i recommend it? Yes, unless you are looking for a more ergonomic alternative.
Pros:
Excellent Build Quality
Decent Screen Quality
RGB Notification LED
Solid Performance
Nice Design
Cons:
Camera Software needs to be improved
No Magnetometer/Compass & Gyroscope
Outdated Android Security Patches
Lower than average signal reception (GPS/WiFi/4G)
Low Pixel Density due to the HD+ only res.

That'll be fantastic. I've just been given this phone as smashed my other and I must say, its not a bad phone really, quite heavy but at least I know its in my pocket & know ive not lost it.
I'd love to get root on it but not use to rooting MTK devices so some easy clear instructions would be great. I tried the one in OP but with my lack of understanding of these devices, I couldn't get it done. Some places mention mtk tools program, but I really don't want to jump straight into it & mess the phone up.

Thanks, I seen that & that's where I meant to post, sorry. Yh, its say twrp not available but has SuperSU & magisk flashable through twrp, does mean we can't root safely yet until we have twrp?
I'm not too fussed about TWRP tbh, just want root to block ads & use Substratum. Can Mtk tool for PC root this phone?
Edit: I will read up more on mtk devices anyway as new to me. I'm use to flashing Samsung phones etc but not this one.

Review (part 1)
Introduction
This is the BLUBOO S8+.
Hardware
Some parts of the review have been taken from the S8 review where possible, since most parts of the device are just identical
Just like the little brother S8, this S8+ features almost the same hardware and follows the same design, basically an S8 on steroids, not improving much compared to the predecessor though.
This device comes with a Mediatek MT6750T (just like the S8), with 4GB of RAM instead of 3GB and 64GB of Storage instead of 32GB, everything packed with a 6 inches HD+ IPS screen (18:9). No changes have been made to the camera hardware, but the front camera sensor is now made by OmniVision instead of Sony.
Unboxing
I am not sure whether this is the standard packaging or not, but mine came with 2x the amount of accessories: 2x Type-C USB Cable, 1x 5V/2A USB Charger (no extra for it), 2x 3.5mm to Type-C Adapter, 1x TPU Cover, 1x Plastic Screen Protector, 1x SIM Card Tray Eject Tool, 1x User Manual, 1x Warranty Card and the Smartphone (of course). There is no screen protector pre-applied.
There must be something wrong with the production line responsible for the black variant, the first review unit i got was not in the best conditions, and the second one...is more or less the same, as you can notice. The black paint is, somehow, weirdly applied and not uniform. It looks like the machine was running out of ink e.e
Other than that, there are no imperfection on the front and the back, the device feels solid enough thanks to the metal body, and thanks to the curved body it is really comfortable to handle. Still, it is sad to this decrease of build quality compared to the S8.
It is 15.8x7.41x0.92cm, bigger compared to the S8 (of course, bigger screen) but still small considering the screen size, and weights 202g.
On the front side, underneath the 2.5D glass, there is the 18:9 IPS screen with pretty nice rounded corners and the upper front side of the device features a Front-Facing Camera, an Earpiece, and the Sensors hole that includes Light, Proximity and Gesture Sensors. A notification LED is here, and seems to support only two colors: Red, Green.
Here you can see the Notification-LED in action.
On the lower front side there isn't anything at all, on-screen software keys are used.
On the back side there is the Plastic not-removable back panel with a really glossy surface, can't avoid fingerprints.
Device
Screen
Still featuring an HD+ panel, this S8+ provides a better viewing experience thanks to the bigger screen and also a more reliable color accuracy, but due to the low pixel density there a noticeable lack of sharpness and it is also possible notice a sort-of smearing effect while scrolling into menus. I am not a display expert, but it should be caused by a too high pixel response time.
The light sensor is accurate supporting smooth light changes, and screen brightness is brighter compared to the S8.
Luckily the viewing angles issue i noticed on the S8 doesn't seem to be anymore here, there is not gap between the glass and the screen so it looks as good as a decent mid-range IPS panel.
As regards Video Recording, 1080p videos are recorded at 30FPS with a pretty interesting stable 30fps frame rate, and the Front Camera is a Wide-Angle variant made by OmniVision (OV5648), no big changes compared to the Sony IMX190 camera sensor found on the S8.
Audio (identical to the S8)
In the past, BLUBOO released a device with the best speaker i have ever found on a smartphone, the Maya Max, but in this case, unfortunately, the speaker is pretty bad. Low volume, missing low-frequencies and with a noticeable static noise.
As regards the Microphone, it is good, everyone was able to hear me properly in-call.
Similar speaker situation applies for the Earpiece too, where the audio has low volume and lack of low frequencies, but the sound is pretty clear with no noise.
GPS
Unfortunately the GPS antenna seems to be worse compared to the one found on the S8, barely able to get a medium GPS signal outdoors and with no signal at all indoors. Weird.
Indoors on the left, outdoors on the right.
Battery Life
Just like on the S8, also on this S8+ i faced serious issues in measuring the battery capacity. Do not consider this result as accurate because i had to keep the device turned on in order to get something "more reliable" otherwise it was constantly sucking power from the USB port while turned off. The result shows ~3595mAh of capacity that, apparently, matches the 3600mAh capacity declared but, again, can't be sure.
Something that might confirm the incorrect result is the PCMark Battery Test, reaching just some minutes extra compared to the S8 result (8h 18m vs 8h 2m). Test run at Minimum Brightness, WiFi on, Sync on. Later, i will remove the back cover and see if i manage to get the real battery capacity in any other more reliable way, the battery label might be helpful too.
The included 5V/2A charger is fast enough to charge the battery in ~2 hours, it is limited by software so even a more powerful charger won't make it any faster.
Software (identical to the S8)
Telephony, Mobile Network & WiFi (identical to the S8)
The device has full support for European 4G Networks, and signal reception is good. Running a standard speedtest, the result is decent, just a bit lower than what i usually get in the same position. (technically it should be way higher but this is how 4G networks are in Italy...)
WiFi Performance is great considering the WiFi Chipset used on the MT6750T, connected at 135mbps to my 5GHz WiFi Connection, it almost gets the maximum reacheable with my VDSL internet connection.
Benchmarks (identical to the S8)
I have used 3DMark, AndroBench, Antutu Benchmark, Epic Citadel, GeekBench 4, GFXBench, PCMark (Work 2.0, Computer Vision, Storage & Work 1.0) and Vellamo to stress the device to the limit. I won’t test Games or Video Playback because there are already some related tests included in these Benchmark suites.
Conclusions
Well...what to say about this S8+. It is not better compared to the S8, that's obvious considering that some there are some downgrades such as the lower build quality and worse GPS antenna. Still, it is not a bad device. If you exclude the painting issue that, hopefully, is limited to the black variant, it can be considered as a good Galaxy S8 clone.
As already said for the S8, it only lacks a better OS (Stock Android instead of 360 OS) with no bloatware or malwares. If BLUBOO doesn't fix this malwares issue, found also on the S8, i still can't recommend the device, unless you can, and want, to mod the device and remove them manually (or install a custom ROM).
So, if you agree with my words written above, then go for it, otherwise, it is better to look for something else.
Pros:
Decent Camera Sensors
Presence of a Magnetometer/Compass
Notification-LED
Compact considering the screen size
Lots of RAM and Storage
Cons:
Absence of a Gyroscope
Infected and Bloated 360 OS
Suspicious Real Battery Capacity
Missing Headphone Jack
GPS Antenna should have been better
