[Recovery] TWRP 3.1.1 (unofficial) - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other

I was looking for a TWRP for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. I've found a chinese board where a user called YouLinw compiled TWRP for us. According to him and the users there (Google Translator) it seems to work. Can't test it by now, because my Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 isn't shipped right now. It was really tricky to register in this chinese board and then to download the file. You can download it yourself in the board and for all other users I made a mirror with no registration.
There's now a new english TWRP from Xiaomi.eu.
I don't take any responsibilities for this file. If you break or damage your phone, it's your fault!
The recovery is in chinese - but you shuold be able to use it with screenshots in your language.

Hope you like it.

Great find! Any idea what version of SuperSU can be used to root The device ?

In this chinese board there's something written like, that SuperSu 2.82 is suitable for the Mix 2 (without guarantee).

I added now a new TWRP from a Xiaomi.eu Founder.

Xiaomi.eu released rom for Mi Mix 2, it's called chiron. TWRP as the linked it, here. Might be the same as the OP linked tho.
Should work. My phone arrives next week i will test it.

Yes, it's the same (also see Credits).

Can confirm, superSU 2.82 works on Xiaomi EU rom version 7.9.22

unable to mount /system after nadroid backup
TWRP installed fine and experienced no issues until I made a full Nandroid backup. After the backup I have issues flashing because the device is unable to mount /system . busy or in use error.
So now I wait until official TWRP.

If you are having any twrp issues just reboot into twrp and the issues will be gone. Try again!

For the life of me I cannot get this TWRP to do anything. My phone came with Global 8.5 Stable. I confirmed my bootloader is unlocked. I flashed the TWRP and booted it, it boots fine but trying to backup anything I get Failed to unmount "/system" (Device or resource busy). I tried to reboot back into TWRP still same problem, I tried to reflash TWRP through both fastboot and TWRP image installer. I downloaded the EU rom and tried to flash it and it also failed to flash. OEM unlock is checked, USB debugging is on. TWRP gets over written with the Mi Mix recovery whenever I boot back into system, it doesn't ask me if I want to modify anything when it first boots. Why is this giving me so much trouble I've never encountered this problem with TWRP. Any Advice?.
Thanks much

There is still no official TWRP available. I always do a full wipe factory reset and manual wipe everything before flashing anything. I also get the errors, but I've never tried to restore a backup because I usually just do clean installs each time because the ROMs available right now aren't stable enough for daily use.
The trick for EU rom is complete wipe than boot back into TWRP and try flashing. You will get 2 errors but will install fine. You can install USB drive or transfer EU rom through mtp via TWRP.

I'll do it like @allrockedout
It seems this TWRP is more beta than stable :-/
Also check the "Mount" button and uncheck the option to open all partitions readonly.
Then reboot TWRP. Last but not least before performing any flash operations (ROM or Magisk/SU-Stuff) check all partitions as marked - then do your flash work
i also miss some more partition that are available to other devices like EFS.
Did anyone know about another TWRP version or devs that are working on one?

After flashing this recovery, it boots right back into stock recovery. Any idea what i'm doing wrong? Do I have to disable dm-verity or something?

You can keep dm-verity. After flashing I'd suggest leaving fastboot and booting straight into recovery via fingerpress.
Flashing SuperSU or Magisk or similar should ensure survival of TWRP if it's being overwritten.
Works great but I found :
1. Reboot to TWRP is so slowly... Why ?
2. System won't boot into TWRP when wipe everything and reboot to TWRP. I need to turn phone off and then press volume up + power button to enter TWRP again.
Is there any chance to fix those ?

1. I've noticed the slow speed too, I'm 100% sure why it's happening but I have some ideas.
2. The same ideas will hopefully address this issue.
It was a quick and dirty port since there was no native TWRP, I haven't had the time yet to improve it but I'll build an updated release based on 8.2.5.0 sometime soon and look to making it official.

I've had no issues with USB-OTB, with any standard formatted flash drive (FAT32, NTFS, EXT4).
This is also the first I've heard of anyone having such an issue.
Does the OTG drive mount successfully in whatever ROM you're using? Is it attached prior to booting to TWRP? Can you provide additional information.
TWRP doesn't like remounting the same USB multiple times - i.e if you unplug the USB while in TWRP, and then reattach the same drive it won't remount it.
Sorry to feedback lately because I was too busy in past 2-week.
Well, new TWRP is working well.
The only one problem: If I want to upgrade firmware, TWRP will be replaced by MIUI stock recovery after flashing new version of MIUI ROM.
It's pretty annoying because I need to get into fastboot mode then flash TWRP. After that, entering TWRP and flash lineage OS ...
Is it possible to be fixed in next coming version ?
Kris
May I know how to flash the TWRP rom?
I'm on MIUI.eu ROM, can I flash full global MIUI original ROM with TWRP without bricking the phone ??
Before on Redmi note 3 u can't flash original ROM without bricking the phone, u needed special TWRP (zxc version) or modify the ROM
Can you explain me ?

[Q] Magisk Error 1

Good evening guys
I have a Xiaomi 5s stock rom MIUI9 with TWRP 3.2 (capricorn)
I was using the old supersu.apk to have root privilegs. I remove it completly to install the Magisk but I'm getting error 1
Follow the pictures...
As you can see I have the unlock boot, twrp, stock rom and not rooted... Tried others topics and tips to install the Magisk but It wont work...
What should I do?
(Xiaomi forum I saw a guy he installed the stock rom and full restored and he continues with error:1)
Resolution:
Change TWRP 3.2.1-1 to TWRP ZCX
Download stock rom (same as you're using)
Open the .iso with winrar or other software
Get the boot.img and put it in smartphone sdcard
Reboot in the recovery mod
Select install and change to install a IMG
Select boot.img and the partition BOOT
Install the magisk (feel free to put any version, I used v14)
Reboot and enjoy!
PS: You dont need to unistall first your root because it'll be replaced when you install the stock boot.
Use magisk 15.2, make sure zip file not corrupt.
Even better use TWRP 3.2.1.1 and flash Magisk 16. That combination has some serious bugs ironed out.

I'm using the TWRP 3.2.1-1 is the same thing, I saw in Xiaomi Forum about the TWRP ZCX but I dont know what is the difference...
Does anyone have a fix to it?
Resolved, tip in the first post.
You could try the Xiaomi.eu ROM which has better support for rooting and adds some polish to MIUI (and also implements every weekly beta release of the official repo). Does require a clean install though.

This is actually quite easy
1. Unlock the phone using the well documented process
2. Download TWRP for Mi Max 3 (on your PC)
3. Get ADB tools on your PC
4. Download Magisk.zip on the phone
5. Put your phone in fastboot mode
6. Boot TWRP on the phone ( no need to install, you can disregard the encryption comment)
7. Using TWRP flash the Magisk.zip you have downloaded
8. Reboot - and you are rooted

Sequence of installing Recovery, Preloader etc

Hey guys,
It's nice to see preloader is received and I installed first time when I find it. Currently when I press Power+Up, it will have a DOS-like menu for me to choose, It occured after I installed preloader. At his point, can I install TWRP and then root? Will this DOS-like menu be replaced after TWRP? After installing TWRP, do I need to wipe data etc? I have heaps of apps and games installed, and I try not to do so.
My andorid is 9 and Chinese+Global Rom
Thanks

For the rom to work the way it is supposed to, you have to wipe everything except sd card. So you can backup those apps to sdcard or not. I advise you wipe everything, because it might bring you problems if you don't wipe them.
Okay I just did all this today. Let me quote it step by step.
1. Unlocked bootloader after waiting for 168 hours.
2. Flashed Indian version of MIUI 11 rom based on Android 9.
3. Flashed Pre-loader files & lk and lk2 files successively.
4. Flashed LR TWRP recovery.
5. Flashed a popular custom rom but found it buggy.
6. Reverted back to the Indian Rom again.

At first I installed LR TWRP but couldn't boot into custom OS. Then I installed Orangefox and I was able to boot. Yes pre-loader was already there... I guess pre-loader goes away when you flash any official MIUI rom as this happened with me. After flashing the Indian ROM again I had to flash pre-loader and recovery files.

Cesium OS. Overall its a good os, much stable and can be definitely used as a daily driver except for the fingerprint sensor issue. If you try to wake up device using fingerprint, it freezes and never displays the screen even when the power button is pressed. You have to restart the device to make it workable. Its a known bug.

Just install Magisk and load any custom os of your choice when you are done installing twrp. Remember, some roms require a specific version of recovery and Magisk installation also needs to be done carefully. Good Luck!

[First time] Need some advices

Hello, i'm coming from Nexus 4, a great phone, so i decided to upgrade to this phone, the Xiaomi 10T Lite, is enought for my purpose.
I want to install a custom rom so i can have full control of apps and what to install/upgrade, but i find the procedure very different from my old N4.
I want to ask if the procedure below is correct to avoid brick my phone since it will arrive at the end of this week.
- First, i need to install the recovery, i always use TWRP, i connect the 10T Lite to my pc using the usb cable, then i press volume down + power to enter the fastboot, once there i back on pc, install google usb drivers from official site to recognize the phone under device manager, then i download TWRP for Mi 10T Lite, then go to adb folder directory (i'm using a protable version) and i flash the recovery with the standard procedure via cmd:
fastboot flash recovery -twrp_x.x.x.x-.img
This is correct?
- Second i need to unroot the phone, i download Magisk 23.0 from the official site:
Releases · topjohnwu/Magisk
The Magic Mask for Android. Contribute to topjohnwu/Magisk development by creating an account on GitHub.
github.com
then i boot into recovery, then i install the img, is this right?
- Third, i install the rom with the same procedure as point two, in my case i want to use this:
[ROM][11][gauguin] The Baolong24 AOSP Project | Mi 10T Lite / Mi 10i / Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G
Is all the procedure correct and i'm done or i need to install more tools or do more wipes?
I read about LazyFlasher, is this tool needed too or don't matter? For my N4 i use SuperSu to manage root permissions and working great, when a new upgrade of the rom is released i just overwrite the old one from the TWRP flashing the new img and wiping cache.
Thank you and sorry for the redundant questions.

Thank you a lot, i already have adb + fastboot unzipped ina folder, i also have google usb drivers to recognize the phone under windows, i need these tools as a whole too?
You said unlock the bootloader, what command i need to do? Or i can do this after twrp installation via adb command line, or better, i can do this after the rom installation throught Magisk (similar to SuperSu)?
Sorry, i never managed a MIUI device. N4 was a bit different.

Thank you for your kind reply, so i need to download this MI App (miflash_unlock-en-5.5.224.24.zip) and follow the procedure to unlock the phone, and then wait a week or so, then i can proceed to install twrp, rom, magisk, aka everything else.
Dunno why i have to wait a week, a bit odd, anyway, thank you mate, you were a big help.

That's some MIUI policy must wait a week to be able to unlock bootloader. Also when you unlocked it , phone will delete all your data, so save you pictures and everything to pc.
The best thing is to learn ADB command for flashing TWR or OrangeFox.
When you connect your phone in fastboot mode, type :
Fastboot devices - to see if your device is connected properly then
Fastboot flash recovery (name of recovery ,the best is to rename it to twrp.img) press enter - fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
Fastboot boot twrp.img
Then will phone reboot into TWRP.
Prepore on your sd card Rom that you want to flash , magsik ..
First flash ROM, boot it, set all up , then back to recovery and flash magisk.
Did you choose what ROM will you flash?
I use xiaomi EU ROM weekly. Beta version, bur its food. Also oneOS based on xiaomi base.

Thanks for the tips, the command line is the same as Nexus 4 so no problem, i use always cmd commands over precompiled third party kits, i have better control and i know what i'm doing.
For the rom i had Slimrom on my nexus 4, very minimal with basic apps, no playstore or other bloatware, i installed after flashing cutomized gaps based on what i need, prefer performance over quality, what's matter is the full app control and what the OS load, i hate bloatware and useless stuff that i never use, this is why i prefer custom roms instead of the pre-installed os+apps, and lastly is also mandatory the basic dark theme because i hate the white background.
From the roms released here this seems to work good for me:
[ROM][12][gauguin] The Baolong24 AOSP Project | Mi 10T Lite / Mi 10i / Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G

Xiaomi Poco F3? Surely the hardware is good, 870G, but is also more expensive (around 300 eur).
Before this one was looking for the Realme 8 Pro, is a 8+128 (do not care about 5G, 4G is more than enought), is this model good? From the reviews, this phone is very balanced.
In the end point to Xiaomi 10T Lite just because i found it at a 220 eur.

You think i need to wait the price go down? 300 eur is no joke indeed, but for my purpose is better than the 10T Lite?
I mean, i don't care about playing games or download apps from playstore, i used always APK offline apps, for everything else i use the phone just for basic operations, like callings, e-mail, sms, mms, internet (telegram, rumble,etc...), streaming videos, camera to record videos and photos, nothing more, so a goodly hardware is wasted.
Guess a 750G 6+128Gb is more then enought.
My actual Nexus 4 (2+12Gb) still good but it do not support ethernet connection, storage is limited, the battery is very crap and the camera for photos and video is bad too. Time to upgrade after almost a decade.
ps: Choose the 10T Lite over the 11 Lite because 11 Lite have more weak hardware (732G), is more expensive and i can't unlock the bootloader yet.
I use Sakura with Taleswaves Kerenel not rooted , I loved this rom, and just hope that they will work on it , not stop after one or two updates.

Read over there it have many bugs reported, they fixed all of them and is now stable with the last releases?
Regarding the installation of a different kernel, is just the same automatic procedure via twrp (go into recovery, press install and choose the image file), this is correct? Never installed a different kernel before, neither under my N4.
Thank you.

Yes, I just download new version of kernel , put one as card , go to Ofox, I use it instead of twrp and flash. It is on zip file. Also and ROMs it is in zip file. Don't unpack nothing, that's how you download them that's also flash.
I change my ROM for baloong24. Clean AOSP, very fast , very smooth.. amazing. This is the fastest ROM of all..

Sorry to bother, read on Sakura faqs:
FLASHING PROJECT SAKURAAfter you have downloaded all the needed files, you can proceed with the flashing process. Boot your device into recovery mode and go to advanced wipe after that wipe dalvik, cache, system, vendor and data.
Once you have wiped, flash the required firmware/ vendor zips and the flashable ROM zip. Then reboot to system and enjoy a clean Android experience.
Note: ProjectSakura provides three types of builds GAPPS, VANILLA and MICROG. You may or maynot need to flash a separate GAPPS package depending on the type of the build; maintainer is releasing.

Following your guide above, once unlock the bootloader and installed twrp, and wipe dalvik, cache, vendor and data, i'm a bit lost about installing firmware and vendor zips, you do not mention above about these modules, are these necessary before installing the Sakura Rom?
I found them here:
Xiaomi Firmware Updater
The ultimate script that provides firmware packages for Xiaomi devices.
xiaomifirmwareupdater.com
On this website there are 3 downloads fro the 10T lite, firmware, vendor and MIUI:
1) Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G/Mi 10T Lite/Mi 10i gauguin stable V12.0.2.0.RJSEUXM 11.0 Europe Download 2021-05-27
2) Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G/Mi 10T Lite/Mi 10i stable V12.0.1.0.QJSEUXM Europe GitHub | SF 1.3 GB 2020-10-0
Need to install these two files (discarding the MIUI) via twrp before or i can flash directly the Sakura rom?
Read here on xda that majority of last custom roms have already inside these two modules when flashing a phone, but i'm confused since the installation guide mention that i need to do this myself.
Thanks.
