Congrats, I am impatiently waiting mine !
I would like to know how do you find the screen compared to the Samsung Note 7/8 or S8/SS8+, if you had/have any of these phones.
Did you yet noticed any shortcomings of the korean version?
Cheers~

Congrats for having extra phone. I hope that i will buy this phone in near future.
Please can you make some "selfie" camera comparison LG v30 vs OP5 or Note 8? Because I read that selfie camera on V30 is very bad. I see that is not so good at night, but how is at day? Is selfie camera really bad?

I look at this photo but why are every photo with big noise? :/
And it will be good if you or your firends have Note 8 and Iphone 8 Plus and made several photos comparison with LG v30 vs Note 8 vs Iphone 8 Plus. Because LG v30 should made best photo for low light and night but for know how I see i dont have very good comparison on the internet.
P. S. Is still beta software on the phone or it is release full version?

Hi dears,
the V300L I have is the final consumer one but the firmware is still in beta.
Today the first firmware update: now it's V10j with Google patch up to September 1th. It is an update of 297MB but I didn't see any log online.
I confirm... there is a lot to work around for the picture and video quality but we have the hardware... it's just a software deal.

Thx a lot for super fast answer on my post
I never have LG. So do you think that they will (can) improve video and photo on V30?

p.s. a VS did with iPhone 7 and iOS 11.

Yes, absolutely. It is the first firmware and the V series is the LG flagship world wide.

For me v300s version 10j

can't say I'm all that impressed by the camera. It fine and all not not a anything too different from other flagships. From other pictures I've seen all that talk about glass lens and 1.6 aperture doesn't really translate to anything special. Larger aperture but a smaller actual sensor doesn't really gain you much it seems. I've seen at least one person say the auto mode isn't that great, just like the V20. Hopefully, I'm wrong and it's an improvement.
The DAC is what keeps me interested, and maybe video.

I should agree. After using my new V300SJ10 I'm kinda disappointed in the wide-angle camera. The image is sometimes blurry on the sides/top/bottom, and looks like it was caused by the software, not hardware (even with both HDR and noise reduction OFF, and even in good light conditions). Hope it will be fixed in the next updates.
I'm impressed with the portrait camera though, it makes really great pictures! The video quality is very good as well.

Can you tell me is big difference between video at 1080p 30fps and 1080p 60fps? Because in my OP5 when I turn on 1080p 60fps is much darker then 1080p 30fps.
Is it any differences in video quality in 60fps vs 30fps?

Thanks. But you take pictures wrong. You should set HDR to off when taking photos indoors on V30. Look how blurry V30 gets when HDR is on
It's not OK but HDR is to blame, not camera itself

P. S. And you said "portrait" camera? Did LG V30 have Portrait mode like iPhone 7 Plus/ 8 Plus? I know that LG G6 don't have but ot will be nice to have it.

Damn it looks like the camera isn't much better than the G6. That chromatic aberration at night reminds me of my 15 year old point and shoot Nikon... I wonder if it's LGs crappy ? app? I tried the Google pixel camera app and it wasn't this bad.

Yes, by portrait camera I meant the main "16 MP f/1.6" camera. The second "13 MP f/1.9" one is not as good as the first one

By the way, I've also tested sound quality today and I'm not impressed
I was thinking of replacing my COWON Plenue D player with the V30, but unfortunately the sound difference is pretty noticeable, COWON sounds much clearer and open (by much, I mean, that I can pass blind test for sure). Maybe some people would find it subtle, but I like electronic music and this difference is huge for me. For testing I used FLACs by the "Demoscene Time Machine" guy (like this: https://soundcloud.com/demoscenetimemachine/demoscene-time-machine-memcpy) and Sennheiser IE80 buds. Both COWON and V30 EQ settings was set to Normal (HiFi DAC was enabled in V30, tried different settings, even EQ, but nothing helped).

The phone is pretty much cramped all together with other noise emitting components. Audiophiles pretty much know that there isn't much sound quality expected other than the extra amp power. We tried the high impedance mode and we weren't impressed either.
Camera = not yet there
Software = not yet there
Quad DAC = not close to a $100-500 portable dac
POLED screen = needs improvements
Battery = showed positive endurance results
We can say it is jack of all trades, master of none.

Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the LG G5 come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).

This thread is about the G5's camera, so that's irrelevant... Unless, of course, they use the same camera and I didn't know?
But I still agree with you. I don't see how that's possible that the G3 has a better camera.

yea they have the same sensor
and i had g3 it has bad cam beside my lg v10
I came from the S7 and before that the iPhone 6s Plus. I can't take decent photos with the G5 to save my life. It's frustrating.
What?? Is it true that G5 has worst camera ? Phonearena says it has best camera when compared with S7 and 6s plus.

If you put it in manual mode and mess with it a bit it'll take great pics. Auto mode sucks. For me at least. And yes, I've made sure the lens is clean and all that.

I understand. But it is hard to take all the pics in manual mode. I have G3 now and planning to by G5 in a couple of months and it seems i have to rethink about G5.
Yeah, this phone takes great manual photos, but that's about it. The anti-shake was way better in the G4 over the G5- does the G5 no longer have the laser focus? It was incredible how good the pictures were with the flash off on the G4; in my experience, most phones (including Samsung) take shaky photos with flash off, and are able to focus much better with flash on.
Also, like in all LG phones, panorama is completely useless. They should just get rid of the feature altogether. It doesn't matter how slow or steady I move, everything always comes out jagged. Very annoying.
yeah, I feel the same, my dads G3 camera is awesome... but even under the the G5s latest v10d, the images were clearer and OIS was more stable on the G4 in AUTO mode. I do use Manual mode alot, but sometimes its nice just to pull out your phone and snap a quick situation or a few quick images.
Intrestingly, I find sometimes in "Auto" mode, switiching "OIS" OFF (toggle "OIS" and "steady cam" mode in camera settings), takes better Macro shots, which says to me.. that in its current state, the G5 camera needs work.
However, the G5 camera is a really great camera and a really great device all round, its just a shame reviewers seem to go more for how it looks rather than its innovations
Mine are crisper and more detailed with g4, specially the front canera. Could be this due to an high compression? Maybe there's a trick to loer jpeg compression!

Nonsense.
LOL! The worst camera comparison in history. I am not saying G5 is the best but it is certainly not what the website said it was.
Hey look! Comments section was closed. Go figures.
Anyway, the last close up shot was the worst! No reputable review site would use close up image more than 100%. These are camera sensor made for phones, they are not meant to be zoom beyond 100%.
I Love this phone's Cameras: my pics are coming out better, sharper and better balanced than any other phone i have had my hands on this months and that includes: 6s, 6s+, G4, and S7. Of course this is subjective but i really LOVE the camera. (Auto mode is meh tough when compared to 6s', need to be objective there. I was taking a pic today: my girlfriend's face with a stongly lighted background _door in the sun_ and even if messing wigh manual mode gave me the best pic, auto mode just wasn't keeping it up with my gf's 6s which gave out a decent picture immediately.)
Gotta be honest. (Of course i didn't tell her )
I'm somehow disappointed. The camera oversharpens the pictures most of the time. But the wide-angle camera always oversharpens them. I wonder if it could be fixed with a newer software? Also the pictures get blurry at the slightest movement. But it's still a good camera.
4/5
very high
Camera is very good especially in Manual mode but one thing I found out about the Auto mode that HDR tends to blur details a lot more when zoomig in than taking picture with HDR option turned Off. Hope they improve the camera on Nougat update.
I'm also pretty disappointed with the quality of the G5 pictures in auto mode. Not that they're bad or anything, but I find myself having to take multiple pictures to get acceptable results, particularly in poor lighting. Never had that issue with my G4.

Has it been proven that Mate 20X have identical camera performance to Mate 20 PRO ?

Has it been proven that Mate 20X have identical camera performance to Mate 20 PRO ?
Why I am asking is cause the camera on 20X does surprise me in bad way, biggest problem compared to the Vivo Nex is the exposure is way too bright
in darker scenes, but also very high noise levels I am surprised that this was supposed to be the best camera for android...
So that is why I am wondering have any one done a side by side comparison ? While they are the same on paper there could still be software differences that **** things up
Having owned the 20pro and then moving to the 20x i can confirm the cameras are the same. Personally I prefer the 20x as a phone/media consumption device.
Personally I don't find the cameras too bad. But I do hate the camera app. It's not intuitive. If I want to switch from 40mp to wide or zoom I have to mess with the settings and what I'm wanting to photograph has normally moved or gone by then.
I had a 20 pro and now a 20x. I can confirm the camera performance is the same.
That said, I don't find the cameras as good as the pixel 3 or even P20 Pro. Shots in good lighting look washed out, and indoor/low light shots don't properly use HDR so they always look soft. Properly functioning auto-HDR would fix one of these issues
I have the feeling the camera in my HN10 is nearly
nearly as good in my M20X, but specs say M20X is best.
The hyped cameras were one of the reasons I got this phone. The 20x is a great phone and I enjoy using it. but the camera is nowhere near as good as the adverts show.
It beat all the others in the blind camera comparison test on YouTube, so it must be doing something right!

I just received the LG G8s ThinQ from LG

Hi everybody,
I think most of you don't know me but let me say you the most important thing: I'm a student and work as a Sales Representative for LG Mobile.
Yesterday, I received my new phone, the LG G8s ThinQ, which is going to replace the LG V40 ThinQ I had since February 2019 (I'm living in Europe, that's why I received it quite lately) and the LG G7 ThinQ I had before the V40 since May 2018.
It's the Mirror Black version. Seems totally black on pictures but it's more of a dark grey finish in real life.
One thing that I really appreciate is the included transparent silicon case inside the box even if the OTG USB-C to USB-A adapter is still not present.
DTS:X 3D Surround, Hand ID, Face Unlock, Air Motion, etc. are all there but not Quad DAC unfortunately.
The autonomy is very impressive and surely much better than precedent smartphones I had: Samsung Galaxy S8, LG Q6, LG G7 ThinQ and LG V40 ThinQ.
Dimension of the G8s is veyr similar to the V40 ThinQ but unfortunately, as the Power button has moved a bit upper, no V40 cases will be usable.
For the rest, this phone is really great and feels more premium and better build than the V40 Moroccan Blue I had even though the must-loved frosted glass isn't there anymore.
I'm going to publish an unboxing video online, in French (sorry guys :/ ) in the coming days.
Here's my little unboxing video in French
Here are some pictures if someone is interested with a side-by-side comparison with the LG V40 ThinQ I will give back to LG in the coming weeks (it's definitely the one I loved the most in term of design):
No offense but this phone has been released in most places for MONTHS. Not exactly ground breaking news, but we appreciate the effort
How does it compare with the G8?

Example :

Very similar in terms of performance.
A little bit more of autonomy, better camera quality but the screen is only Full HD+ (for that screen size, you won't notice the difference and will gain even more battery life) and you don't have the OLED Crystal Sound technology (in stead, you have Meridian Stereo Speaker).
The only complain for this specific comparison : screen borders are bigger on the G8S and the notch is larger. This result to nearly the same size as the V40 (same width, half centimeters less height).
And most important, the G8s had no DAC

Yeah, it's a shame…
Really great sound quality anyway but I rather prefer Quad DAC over DTS:X 3D Surround.
Stereo Speaker is welcom even if the P-OLED Crystal Sound is very interesting in the G8S.
PS: I think you're all informed that in September LG will reveal new devices.
I read on some websites of a rumor about the LG V60, let me assure you the dual screen device will be a G8 series phone (I can't say anything else as the rest is under confidentiality).
Let's see what they will show us

Camera quality will be quite the same, no major difference the 2 versions (even if the lenses are not exactly the same).
I already made my hands on the G8X, sounds promising but I'm waiting to receive the finished product before publishing anything.
As for the samples, I made a small trip recently at Malta, check that out here (auto mode (the 3 lenses), AI mode (wide and main lens), Pro mode (main lens even though you can also use it on the wide lens)):
Auto mode:
Auto mode on the same view with wide, main and zoom lens:
Pro mode for macro:
Pro mode for sky view at night, at different settings:
AI mode with wide lens, than with main lens:

Wow, that's a lot of good material to analyse. Nice pictures! Thank you very much!
Image quality seems good, although there's a bit of noise reduction that reduces the detail - It's LG's signature nowadays...
Have you tried shooting in RAW or using a GCAM port?
Thanks again

Yes, there's a bit of noise reduction on the picture, even though on Pro mode it seems to be less present.
I have RAW files of those in Pro mode if you want.
Tried Gcam, only the "most stable" one ran for 2 pics and now, even by reinstalling it, I can't use it anymore but on the very short test I did, no difference in quality apart for a slightly less noise reduction

Well, GCAM has its pros and cons. I still prefer stock RAW but GCAM has its uses in more challenging lightning conditions.
I'm using a V30 with version 18C1 from here:
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-fu24/
It almost never crashes and It has much more details than stock camera but the image also looks a lot more processed. You can also tweak some of the settings to your liking.
I would love to see some raw photos when you have time to share them. After the G4, LG started to use to much noise reduction on jpegs and I only use RAW nowadays.
I only see the black color. Will the white one come in Europe? Some reviewer said something about bad viewing angles . How is yours?
I have the Lg g6 and i'm considering the g8s. Anyone who had the g6 and now the g8s? Impressions?

Sorry for the late reply.
Some countries received the Mirror Black others the Mirror Teal color.
No info about the white one.
In Belgium, the G8S has been cancelled as there was some problems with partners to actually sell it in store but no problem related with the device.
About the viewing angles, I prefer it to others smartphones. I didn't use a lot the zoom lens unfortunately but wide angle and main lens are very good. My father, which has the Galaxy Note 10+ prefered the lenses of the G8S but chosed the Samsung simply for faster updates (even if LG is changing it this year, finally).
I had to change for the G8X last month, the wide lens of this one is very large but interesting for landscapes ^^
About camera quality comparison :
G6 vs G7 : no huge differences
G6 vs G8/G8S : good improvements on night photography, colors are more natural, zoom lens isn't the most useful one
G6 vs G8X : same as G8/G8S, wide angle lens is very very large and thankfully not too fish-eye (the largest of all smartphones as it's 136°)

Nope no OIS. But it hands down has the best EIS I've ever seen on a phone. In both photo and video modes it stabilizes REALLY well.
Edit: short clip from someone else on YouTube of stabilization. This is even at 4k recording which most phones with EIS won't do (they usually limit EIS to 1080p only)

Which version of gcam u using
Yeah idk what you're on about. The camera is above average at worst. It's not the best, nor close, but it's at least a 7/10.
Pictures at full resolution (48MP) is honestly crap due to the fact that at that resolution, the camera doesnt support HDR+ for some reason.
At 12MP however, the pictures are above average IMO

Possible to take better photos with ASUS Rog Phone 2

I came across a video on YouTube which shows how we can take better photos with the Rog Phone 2 using the Google Camera.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I've seen several of these comparisons, and I often prefer the stock camera images over the Gcam images. The ones of the toy car and phone in that video are prime examples.
I suggest learning manual controls. Even if you don't use it in normal shooting, understanding what's going on with settings will help you take better photos. Remember, only you know what kind of photo you want, not some random programmer that never met you. Because of that, auto modes can be hit and miss, and understanding manual controls will allow you to quickly adjust for those times auto mode isn't working for you.
We need to make a camera thread, the photos from this phone are actually good without gcam

In good lighting it does much better than what I would have expected, and compared to my iPhone 11pro they are not horrible. Now taking photos at night that's a different story .

Lol. iPhone 11 and rog2 in daylight? No contest. Rog2 looks like Nexus 4.

OIS is over-hyped anyway for a phone. The range of motion to correct isn't very big with such a small sensor. I've seen a test video of the electronic stabilization, and it worked extremely well.

What do you think nightsight does? It uses ois in nightshots for better images. You have no clue. Move along.

From https://www.blog.google/products/pixel/see-light-night-sight/
If your subject moves during the capture, Night Sight can adapt to prevent a modest amount of motion from ruining the shot. Instead of capturing one bright and blurry photo, Night Sight captures an equal amount of light over a burst of many photos that are dark but sharp. By merging this burst, Night Sight prevents motion blur and brightens the photo, giving you a bright and sharp photo.

That's not true I have a pixel 1 with no OIS and it's fine in night mode

My V20 has it and I can get maybe a notch slower shutter speed than without. Not much difference. If it was something like Pentax's full frame DSLR, that gives 5 stops of shake reduction, that would be a big difference.
