Unlock bootloader now or wait? - Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra Questions & Answers

I bought XA1 ultra last week.
We know unlock bootloader will erase DRM and it won't be recovered.
Is there any TA backup method for this model?

Also looking for an answer. I think it is not possible unless people can find a way to downgrade to Android 6.0
But what I am thinking is that if these keys are not important then why not just erase them...

[Q] Unlock bootloader if Allowed=No for Z1C

Hi there,
I have a network unlocked Z1C which came from o2. The bootloader unlock allowed status is No but the phone is rooted. Is there anything I can do to this to unlock it? I feel like trying CM on it
Thanks!
I have searched for answers to this but no joy...

If your bootloader unlock allowed status is no then you will most likely never be able to unlock that phones bootloader. I think your best bet is to contact O2 and tell them you want a phone on which the bootloader is unlockable, perhaps they can give you a special key to unlock the functionality, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Oh and don't try CM on it, it'll just bootloop and you'll have to use SUS or PC Companion to restore a working OS.
...actually there is one hope, but it requires dismantling the phone. There is a test-point behind the battery which might enable you to put the device into a mode where it'll accept a command allowing bootloader unlock. But again, high risk, not sure if it's actually possible, easier to just sell the phone and buy an unlockable one if you want to run CM. Maybe you could even return the device, how long have you had it?
my z1c just turned up and ive got an bootloader unlock allowed :victory::victory::victory:
I have locked bootloader on EE in UK and have found that many of the tweaks I wanted can be achieved with Xposed modules. Give it a try but backup before you start.
Need a opinion by a dev
Hello there,
I was thinking about a test.
My problem is "Unlock bootloader allowed : no".
What could happen if i restore an other TA partition with "Unlock bootloader allowed : yes". I erase the old by a new one which unlockable. All i need is a TA partition build with a z1c which unlockable and the unlock code.
What do you think ?
Soory for my bad english
If you replace your ta partition it will most likely hardbrick your device.
What is a ta partition, i don't understand.
A bootloader is like a bios on motherboard.
But it is locked by a code.
The bootloader is the same on each z1c no ?

Flashing another phone's TA will hard brick yours, every TA is related to the phone which comes from

[Q] Xperia Z1 compact relocking bootloader

Hi,
New to the forums and did a little snooping before posting. I recently bought a z1c australian stock and it came rooted and with the bootloader unlocked. I don't have the original DRM keys nor the TA backup. Is it still possible for me to relock the bootloader? I can't seem to update my phone via PC companion without locking it.
Thanks
Download Flashtool it lets you relock your phone

Yes, you can re-lock the bootloader, but Your DRM keys are lost unfortunately. As said in earlier post, you can use flashtool to do so. Also, there is a thread which helps You get back some of the features provided by DRM keys, although do note it does not restore DRM keys. You can find the thread here.

root without bootloader unlock?

Hi everyone,
Is there root available without unlocking bootloader? I've searched within "Sony Cross-Device General" and found iovyroot ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/iovyroot-temp-root-tool-t3349597 ) However it is dated and looks like a Lollipop OS temp root solution.
Great phone, but I have a feeling I'm going to be stuck like the LG G5 without root
PS. the XA1 Ultra I have is from Freedom Mobile in Canada - G3223
Afaik, not yet. I've been looking and waiting for a lb root solution as well. I wasn't even able to find a windows driver for my model so I had to modify the hardware info to make the one of the others install. Adb now works for me so I'm trying to get a ta backup before unlocking the bl to root.

Unfortunately, TA backup requires temp root as well. We had Dirtycow solution for XA Ultra, but we don't know about XA1 Ultra.
Moreover, we have to figure out how to restore TA after bootloader unlock (and root)

TA backup, Retain DRM

I see people unlocking bootloader and rooting. However, no one mention about DRM backup and restoration. Anyone here knows if all Sony X series phone can have its TA backup?

Since XA2 and below, there is no way to backup the TA partition and no way to restore and lock the bootloader
