Repair or file warranty with cc for refund - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm just about at the limit for 2 years since I bought this phone 10/20/15. I could file a extended warranty with citi bank for a potential refund. I also talked to LG this morning and they said they would repair it for free.
Background Google replaced it once, but new one had the same issue. So what to do? I've almost had it with this phone. Almost time to move on, but if LG fixes the issue with a new motherboard, then I should be golden.
Any ideas on what you would suggest. it's a stock phone with no modded roms.

Just talked to citi and they now add 24 months additional warranty.
So with that, would it be better to have LG repair, and see if that fixes, if not for with citi bank?

Sent it to LG to replace the motherboard. I'll keep you posted. I guess I have another year to see if it works. I like the puffiness when it is working.

Mobiletechvideos

I just got email from mobiletechvideos that they couldn't fix my blue lite of death(bricked) and refunded my 35 dollars. So the question is has anyone had luck sending their phone to Samsung since we have 1 year manufacture warranty.?
No I don't have insurance

I paid 50 for my repair case on mobiletechvideo for the exact same problem and he refunded me also. I made a case over the phone with samsung repair tech and they said that since it's in warranty, they will fix it for free with free shipping.

I'm actually gonna send it out today. I originally tried making a repair case online and it was gonna cost me 70 dollars, but then I called and the repair tech told me that I would be able to get it for free since it's under warranty and found to be a power problem. Warranty for phones is 1 year. When you make your case, I think it specifies when your warranty ends based on date of purchase, although I could be wrong. They will send you a label to your email that you just print and stick onto a box you provide. If it's a power problem, they will tell you to include the charger and battery with the phone. You also have to write the RMA number on 3 sides of the box.
a buddy of mine dropped his phone and spider web cracked it, anyone crack their screen and use the samsung warranty to repair it?

Phoneclaim.com

So I recently dropped my sgs3... bottom of my screen cracked boo hoo.. so sad but whatever. . I went through phoneclaim dot com from asurion.. ordering went well and pretty easy... got the phone today and went through a hour of setting up the phone and downloading apps. Then decided to see how much memory the phone had left. It had 11.5gb total.. the phone I have is a 32gb, the phone I ordered was supposed to be 32gb the sicker in the back of the phone said 32gb. But internal was a 16gb. Called customer care from asurion and was told that I have to wait 3 hours till they're systems updates...
By now I was thinking that they tried to scam me.. not sure it could of been a honest mistake, don't they check the devices before they ship these out.. what ever happened to quality control.

With my personal experience with T-Mobile and dealing with assurion, things just never work out right.
I had the G1 pre-ordered back in 2008, my friend got his 2 weeks before me. Thing was, we lived in the same apartment complex. 2 weeks after owning my G1 I dropped it and cracked the screen, assurion sent me a Windows Mobile 6 phone instead of my G1. Did the whole calling and being transfered 5 times thing and after an additional 2 weeks I got my G1 back...
Just be patient, they just seem to be very unorganized.

Update
Ok so They sent me a New Phone I mean a New phone. yesterday looked like a refurbished one. the one sent today was in a sealed original box they come in. Now here is where I'm a bit lost. the guy i spoke to yesterday told me to send my old phone back and when the new one arrives it should have it's own return box to send the 16gb refurbish back. the one sent today was a sealed new one without a return box. What do I do with it? keep it or sell it?
Call them and send it back or they'll charge you like $400

I had no issue when i did my Claim with Asurion. I kept the Spare Battery, charger, USB Cable and headphones. Now i have two of each. They never said anything or billed me for it.
As bfranklin stated above: Call them and get a way to send the other phone back or you possibly will be charged for it.

I went to my local T-Mobile store and asked the rep there if they will take it back. Of course they said no.. he told me to send both phones back in the one box and called asurion and ket them know.

Ha this is why I refuse to have ASSurion. I had this same issue, with quality insurance, when I had my touch pro 2. I went through 7 devices with asurion. They do not check devices before sending them out. I'm 100 percent certain of this.

Nexus 5x to LG (Fort Worth) Repair Turnaround Time

If you've shipped your LG Nexus 5x to LG (Fort Worth, TX) for repair, what was your turnaround time?
Was the repair covered under warranty? Or were you charged?
Did you get your original phone back or a replacement unit?
How was the quality of your repair / replacement?
Thank you,
Ed
I gotchu, fam
I got the bootloop issue that many people here have faced. LG said it was the eMMC and they replaced the flash memory. Got the original phone back (confirmed by the IMEI)
I sent in on either 9/30 or 10/3... I can't remember which one I'm sorry.
Date LG received 10/06/2016
LG shipped 10/13/2016, received my phone 10/19/2016
So overall, took about 2 1/2 weeks... They updated the website very slowly from diagnosing the issue, doing the repair, and sending out. Some people have said they didn't do updates about what was going on with their phone at all. While it took a long time, I did not have to pay anything and it was covered under warranty. Oh also they relocked the bootloader lol
I sent my LG G4 there. They received it 9/14. I got it back on 10/4. So it took almost 3 weeks. They said it would be in my hands 9 days after they received it. Lol.
Based on my experience with the G4 and what I've seen here in the 5X forum, I'll never buy another LG.
Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
They should have at-least used UPS air etc and not Fedex Ground
Thank you for your responses. My phone's been there since the 20th and from your responses, it looks like I should expect it back for at least another week.

Is LG USA doing out of warranty bootloop repairs on the 5X?

So I have a 14 month old Nexus 5X that just started boot looping. I can get into the backend and wipe the cache, and storage but it didn't fix anything. Anyway I'm in an interesting situation. I live in Canada, but I purchased the 5X online from B&H Photo right when the Pixel was being released and these were selling at a great price. LG sold the International version LGH791 in the Canadian market whereas the US has the LGH790 (The one I have). I called LG Canada looking to get some info about sending it in to be repaired out of warranty since this originally had 12 months. To my surprise they said the warranty for this phone has been extended to 24 months (which got me curious as to why...led me to Googling). Anyway after checking IMEI# they said my model of phone was US specific and had different components so they refused to fix it and told me to call LG USA. Through Google support I was put in touch with a support rep down in the states who after taking my info and realizing I'm not in the US informed me that LG USA could not ship a repaired unit given to them to a non-US address. I even offered to pay both ways...nope. Curiously LG USA never mentioned anything about an extended warranty for the US models like LG Canada had? Has anyone in states who's suffered the dreaded bootloop like mine got it repaired out of warranty, if not what did they charge to fix it? I managed to work with them on letting them send a return repair through an export service.
Thanks for your time!
I have a 19 month old 5x that started having serious issues. I contacted Google, but they wouldn't do anything to help me. I have yet to contact LG, but I would also be curious to hear about this extended warranty, and if it exists.
I bought the phone from Google to use on Project Fi, so I assumed Google would be upholding the warranty, as it was when my brother's 5x bootlooped. If LG picked up the slack after the 1 year original warranty left off, maybe i could get it fixed? I already ordered an Android One X4 for use on Fi, but maybe I could fix it and sell it?
I'm in the US and I recently got my 18 month old device replaced. I just completed the repair service request online and mailed them the phone. I did have to pay the shipping cost to send it to them. They fixed it and sent it back to me after about a week.

Hmm thats interesting. Did you have to inquire about it first or they just offered. Because they told me I would have to cover shipping as well as a flat rate fee of around $150 I believe.
I'm in the US too. My 5X bootlooped in May and Google replaced mine. They said I'm a valued customer and so they gave me a one time, free of charge courtesy replacement. Originally bought mine in November 2015 via Google Play so my 1 year warranty had long expired. I didn't pay anything. Google just put a hold on my account for the phone until they received my bootlooped device.

Ditto. I'm in the US and have had both of our 5Xs fixed under the extended warranty.
YES YES YES YES YES YES. Please people, stop asking about this and just call up LG. They've fixed 2 Nexus 5x's, 2 G4's and 1 G5 for me, all for $0. All out of warranty. This was all done about 2-3 months ago. (I am in the US.)
I sent mine to LG last Friday free of charge to replace the motherboard. Hopefully that fixes the bootloader issue. Didn't know about LG extending warranty. Glad that did it. I hope it fixes the phone.

I fix Nexus 5x Bootloop
Long story short, I have been trying to revive my phone that died in May this year and I have spent the last 2 days trying to flash or adb sideload ota software, but to no avail. I have been getting E: signature verification failed and error 21, over and over. I decided to get an Ota software from someone else other than from Android developers page. I downloaded bullhead-ota-opr6.170623.013-87f85e44.zip from AndroidAuthority. I noticed this zip OTA was bigger file than the official ones. it was over a gig while others were less. I adb sideload bullhead-ota-opr6.170623.013-87f85e44.zip It worked and the phone booted fully. I immediately turned developer options on and usb debugging to unlock the bootloader. I right away received OTA for Oreo. I hope this helps someone, if you have a question go ahead and ask.thanks.

Just got LG to replace my motherboard to fix the bootloop of death, takes about a week and I only had to pay shipping to them.
Got mine back on Tuesday. Working perfectly. Haven't had a bootloader issue since. Running oreo. Love this phone again.

I have a us version that was sold in canada by google. It started boot looping, then died completely. LG Canada would not touch it since its a "US" phone, even though it was sold by google. (Way to go google.) LG USA would fix it out of warranty, but it had to be shipped to USA address. Fortunately, I live close to the border.
Anyone have this repair done recently? I bought my 5x right when released and well past warranty now. Will they still fix it free of charge? If not, how much?
lg customer service is balls. i had literally 1 week left on my warranty, and was moving across the country in the next few days. they said id have to send it in and id have it back within 3 weeks. they were simply dumb bots who wouldnt help expedite the process. I called google, and they put a 200 dollar hold on a credit card and next day aired me a refurb nexus5x with a return label.
screw lg. never buying another product from them again.

Talk to them on their chat on their website. Doesn't hurt to ask. The world they would say it's no you have to pay to fix.

Yep - I did call them and they offered up a full repair free of charge paying for shipping and everything - not a cent out of my pocket. I barely had to say anything past "bootloop". Not happy with the bootloop, but happy with the LG handling of this. Luckily I have a phone to use during the repair.

Our of luck for my Nexus 5x. I called today for the bootloop issue and was told that they only offer free repair for this issue for qualified buyer.
Because I purchased my phone from Ebay 2nd hand, my phone repair cost would be about $72 dollar.
Not worth the money to put into LG. I am not willing to put $72 into a phone that caused headache for me.

What is best option to repair the phone myself? fully understand that my phone could be dead permanently by doing self-repair.
How does the LG warranty work if it was purchased via ebay or 3rd party instead of Google or directly from LG ? Mine is fine now, but I bought it from ebay almost 12 months ago
Per LG, the warranty for the boot loop issue on the Nexus 5X has been extended until Oct. 2018.
Go to lgmobilerepair.com and fill out the form (put in the date you remember purchasing it and upload a text file as the proof of purchase to satisfy the form).

Sent my 5x back to LG, they are replacing the board under warranty!

My 5x worked since I bought it on the original sale date, somehow it stopped working recently. So after hearing about the class action settlement and the warranty extension, I sent in my phone. Just got notification that they are replacing the board, and returning it to me. I'll follow up if I have other issues.
If you have a faulty 5x, send it back to get it fixed!
Hope
How long have you had it? We've had 3 in the family, all 3 croaked. The other 2 google replaced cause on project fi. My wife's died yesterday. It was bought new off an eBay seller couple years ago. Where did you buy yours? What # did you call also? Thanks
I just set up a warranty repair (USA) for a boot-looping Nexus 5X by calling LG at (800) 793-8896 (6am - midnight CST). I bought it from Google on 9/29/2015, which was the original release date, like the OP. They do ask for proof-of-purchase, so I'm not sure about second hand e-bay purchases. Since the warranty is extended past their normal 1 year, maybe it isn't as important to establish the date.

If I hadn't used my dead one's screen to repair my daughter's phone I'd have a nice working 5x. LG extended the warranty to 30 months on bootloop issues because they did not want to take hundreds or thousands of people to arbitration.
Now I have a k20 plus running nougat. Meh.
