How to set network mode to 4G only? - Samsung Galaxy A3, A5, A7 (2017) Questions & Answe

Please help.. Is there a way to set network mode to 4G only or LTE only?... In settings, I only have the Autoconnect, 2G only and 3G only options.. Thanks..

Is your SIM card already 4G supported? What's your carrier?

The 4G auto connect is available? Apps might be able to access 4636 without root. In there, if there's an option, select phone information, then lock the RAT to 4G only. Alternatively, if *#2263# or *#2683662# is available, in *#0011# select the other SIM if there is any, then in those other codes, band selection, GSM ALL (for the unused SIM), change SIM again with *#0011#, band selection, LTE ALL(for the used SIM). What's expected: If the SIM is not a USIM, the RAT will stay on 3G(UMTS/WCDMA). If the USIM is not authorized, no signal. With soft PLMN locking (manual operator search) the signal level is shown but it's unusable. If the signal is still not available, maybe the phone does not support that band/frequency or no LTE coverage? If rooted it's possible to add LTE only in those settings in feature.xml, if that file is not available others.xml is used. Or launch 4636, or RIL service mode with am broadcast.

Use this app (no root needed). Set to LTE ONLY. Works fine.
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ather.networkmode&hl=nl

This is worth a try. It's 4636.

ADD THIS IN system\csc\other.xml

1. hit your conty carier network band. others not working eg, sri lanka gsm band is 900/1800. wcdma 2000
2, dont hit any other options. if hit you may broke your rom.
3. befor you going to flash another rom first hit the band to automatic

It is easier to just type "*#2263#" in your dialer because it takes you directly to the network selections you are referring to.

Some carriers use restrictions (RAT restrictions) to prevent this.

In this case..such as with AT&T, you would dial *#197328640# and go to UMTS>DEBUG SCREEN>PHONE CONTROL>NETWORK LOCK>RAT_FREE_SUPPORTITNG ON (supporting is misspelled with the last T and I swapped around). After this you can use the OP method or from the dialer type *#2263# which takes you directly to the band selection options. Whenever I was running stock rom, I used this method all the time. The one catch with RAT restrictions is you have to redo the option to unlock the RAT every time you reboot.
There are four options under band selection: Automatic will allow for LTE, 3.5G, and 2G depending on what signals are available. However if you choose one of the other three options, it locks into that particular bandwidth. If you choose LTE you will only have data capabilities since LTE does not currently handle voice calls. If you move out of an LTE area, you will no signal. The same applies to all except for automatic which switches between bands as needed.
On the other hand if you are trying to disable LTE only, then there is a completely separate method of doing this (assuming that network preferences does not work). Create an APN and just name if Fake. Once created, enable it and exit and go to dialer. You will lose data, but this is only temp. You must wait about 25 seconds then dial *#*#4636#*#* and choose "Device Information". You will see a dropdown menu that says "WCDMA preferred". Change this to "GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) and exit. Go back to the APN settings and switch to the one that works for LTE. However, you will now only have 2g and 3g capability with LTE disabled. This will last until reboot, airplane mode, or an option is chosen from one of the dialer methods selected above (normally, the selected bandwidth under the dialer method contains a * next to it. When disabling LTE with the APN however, when you go into it none of these are annotated with the *. You are effectively "tricking" the phone to work the way you want it.)
Correct, and sometimes if you lose lte you can re select all the lte bands, then automatic, and you'll regain your lte

LTE Band Selection Problem (Band3, Band7)

Hi, I am new to the forum and want to share my experience about LTE BandSelection.
As discussed in the previous thread, you can access to Verizon Hidden Menu called LTEBANDSELECTION. By default, Band2 Band4 Band13 are checked and Band5 is unchecked. However, from LG website LTE 3/7 is supported for Roaming, but those bands are not on the list.
I can confirm that at least Band3 is working because I am on a carrier that uses Band8 and Band3. The problem is that, when I try to change the LTE band selections above (ex: adding Band5 to the list), it seems that LTE3/7 is not working anymore. After changing it once, I only get 3G signal without any LTE. The only way that I can get the Band3 signal again is going back to the original stock rom (13b) again.
It is weired that there is no hidden menu to select Band3/7. Do you have any idea on this problem? Thanks!

How To Force 3G?

I've tried *#*#4636#*#* but the code doesn't work. As soon as I type that, my phone dialer just goes blank. So how do I force 3G?
Do you mean basically shut off LTE (force only use of 3G and GSM/2G/EDGE)? Since GSM is the often used fall-back from 3G, and it's not currently a great idea to only have 3G. At least not until carrier start shutting down the GSM networks (which is coming soon, from what I understand).
If that is what you mean, if you go into Settings>Mobile data, do you have the Preferred network type, with the option to force GSM and 3G? Or does it just change back, if you do have this option shown?
What carrier version of the M8 do you have? The network type is locked out (to always allow all three: GSM, 3G and LTE) on the US carrier versions. And this also affects the dialer codes to force the network mode.

Nah, nothing to do with 4G but my network keeps switching back and forth (3G/2G). I've noticed that this causes some battery drain
The code has worked previously with other ROMs but not quite so on Verizon 6.0. I wouldn't mind locking to 2G either since I don't use data

SM-T807P with not support to WCDMA

I have a SPRINT SM-T807P pre-owned tablet working 100% OK.
The device IMEI is clean and I'm outside the US.
I could find the 2G/3G/4G technology and bands supported prior to buy the device through eBay.
Then, running stock ROM MM 6.0.1 updated > root > unlock and debranding to clean SPRINT apps and restrictions with others carriers SIMs.
I have 3 SIMs from my 3 local carriers and I know I can't use LTE since the carriers LTE bands are not compatible with the device (Band 2 and Band 4 required by the carriers)
www_gsmarena_com/samsung_galaxy_tab_s_10_5_lte-6235.php
No problem with that, I can use 3G/2G mobile data for my internet surfing and email check tasks.
My problem is that my device is not supporting WCDMA!
When I'm in IOTHiddenMenu > ##DATA# Menu > HDR/1X Selection, I have only these options:
1) Hybrid
2) CDMA Only
3) EVDO Only
4) EHRDP 1x
5) Global
6) LTE + CDMA + EVDO
7) LTE only
As you can see there is nothing related to WCDMA!
Using "Global" is not the trick.
In GCF SETTING when going to
[2]UE Setting & Info
[1]Setting
[1]Protocol
[2]NAS
[1]Network Control
[4]BAND SELECTION
I can see "WCDMA Band Preference" > "WCDMA ALL" option but this setting is not saved.
Only are saved the options related to LTE, CDMA or LTE+CDMA.
Same behavior when going to RADIO SETTINGS > Set preferred network type. GSM/WCDMA options present but are not being saved nor accepted. I can save only options with LTE or CDMA (or both) involved.
RTN RESET and NV REBUILD done without getting WCDMA enabled after the tasks.
Now I'm in the way of discover why all the people with SPRINT SM-T807P can enjoy WCDMA services after unlocking the device and I can't do it as expected.
I'm thinking that is a restriction on the stock ROM.
I have a MSM8974 board with a Snapdragon 800 processor.
Build ID MMB29M.T807PVPU1CPI1
Any help/advice to enable WCDMA on the device will be really appreciated.
Additionally, when I'm in RADIO SETTINGS for some reason I can't select some options.
With a (*) mark are my "selectable" options. The other ones can't be assigned...
WCDMA preferred
GSM only
WCDMA only
GSM auto (PRL)
(*) CDMA auto (PRL)
(*) CDMA only
EvDo only
(*) GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)
(*) LTE/CDMA auto (PRL)
(*) LTE/GSM auto (PRL)
(*) LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)
(*) LET only
(*) Unknown
All the "selectable" options were tested (selected and restart) with no success...
Maybe I need to enable LTE/HSDPA/GSM required bands through CDMA Tools or it seems to be a bad idea?
Adding additional LTE Bands was not possible with CDMA tools.
The new selection is not being saved.
I'm in the way of flashing the stock SM-T807T (T-Mobile) on my SM-T807P (Sprint) to check the behaviors.
Any advice will be really appreciated...
I could see at the Qualcomm website that the Snapdragon 800 processor supports WCDMA and full LTE bands frecuencies:
Supported Cellular Technologies
LTE FDD
LTE TDD
LTE Broadcast
WCDMA (DC-HSDPA, DC-HSUPA)
TD-SCDMA
CDMA 1x
EV-DO
GSM/EDGE
https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/processors/800
I'm in the way (too) of searching for the correct MODEM flash file to get LTE, WCDA and GM/EDGE fully unlocked and working...
It was not possible to flash SM-T807T (T-Mobile) stock ROM from SAMMobile on SM-T807P (Sprint)
There is a Odin error.
I will try by editing NV to get the bands working...
Well, after working with CDMA Tools, NV Manager and editing the build.prop file, now I can see my required LTE, WCDMA and GSM additional bands! No more "Searching network connection" on the top left corner.
But the signal icon on the top right corner is always empty (no signal at all).
I have checked, deleted and reconfigured the APN, with no success.
And still I can't set "GSM auto (PRL)" on the Service Mode as "Preferred Network Type" so I believe I'm missing something else.
I'm really exhausted, I need help to be able to get my Samsung Galaxy Tab S working OK on my local GSM networks.
I will open a new thread offering to pay/donate for the service to have my device working on GSM ...

Question How to change preferred network type?

I'm on EE UK but the preferred network type setting doesn't appear to be present in SIM options?
It appears that some providers suck hard and don't want to allow you to switch networks. That's not a phone thing-y, it's a provider thing-y. Which means that your phone will of course still change networks, but only if the "higher" one is not available, ergo your phone will only connect to 4G, if 5G is not available - if the 5G connection is bad, that will probably cause problems for you, because your phone will probably not want to connect to 4G automatically.
I can easily switch preferred network types
Settings -> Network & Speed -> SIMs -> (scroll down, between 4G Calling & Carrier settings version) -> Preferred network type (5G, 4G, 3G, 2G).
It that's not available, your network carrier sucks. No more to say here.
I'd suggest you either switch providers, or contact your provider to see if they are willing to change this. It's definitely on their end, cuz people like me can change the settings easily.

You may be able to change preferred network type with *#*#4636#*#* dialer code.

EE (& BT Mobile) hide the menu.

Or you could just make sure Adaptive Connectivity is enabled and not worry about it.
You would have to drag me away from EE (BT Mobile) screaming and kicking given the coverage and speeds they have, to say they suck over one menu option missing is absolutely laughable.

When the Note 20 first came out a lot of carriers wouldn't let you change network type but there's an app in the play store that was working on the notes.
Force 4G/5G Only - Apps on Google Play
Lock your phone to 4G/5G mode or VoLTE network

Crashes or alternately just disappeared for me when I click on the first option "4G LTE with only one SIM". Reported the crash. Thanks, though. Maybe they'll update it.
An alternative to the dialer code is to boot into safe mode, and the preferred network type setting will appear in: Settings -> Network & internet -> SIMs between Data warning & limit and Carrier settings version (at least it does on my Google Fi Pixel 6 Pro).
