Samsung Smart Call or Caller ID - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

So Samsung seems to advertise everywhere for their Smart Call call ID functionality, but that doesnt appear to be available anywhere on the VZV Note 8. I know Verizon tries to sell you their own garbage Caller ID, but is there anyway to get the official samsung on this by means of an APK or something? And if not, what caller ID do you people recommend?? Having used a Nexus device for years i never needed one of these since Google Dialer did such a fantastic job filtering out spam etc.

Unfortunately Verizon disables it and I have not found any way to enable it. I don't pay for Verizon's Caller ID feature but use an app called Hiya.

I've used Hiya in the past and it's a cool app. It let's you block calls. Well, not really block them. It auto disconnects them. You can only truly block calls with apps on rooted phones (though I'd love for someone to prove me wrong). My only problem with Hiya is it seems a bit resource heavy on my old Note 4. Haven't installed it on this phone yet.

Also places in contact app is not available too loosk like.
Search locally

So has anyone found a way to get this on our phones? I tried to APKs from apkmirror, one from April, and 1 from August of this year, and they both didn't install

caller id is a flop always has been

Download ShortCut master lite. Search through for phone app, tap it. Scroll down and Inside you will see smart call settings. Tap once, then click launch. Window opens, click to enable.
Note: I haven't had any unidentied callers yet since enabling, but there it is.

Even using shortcut master it doesn't work.. It'll work if you flash the unlocked firmware but then volts and WiFi calling doesn't work.. If you turn them on then smart call gets turned off... Smart call uses the hiya database so I just downloaded the hiya app and it works great.. There's also a Google dialer floating around that works that adds even more features.

Volte does work on the VZW Note 8 with unlocked firmware. I use my Google Voice number (on Hangouts) to make WiFi calls.

Coming from Xperia X10a and have some questions

Hi all,
Just got a Galaxy S II X from Telus to replace my charging disabled X10a. I've got most things moved over, but I have some questions:
1. on the x10a, I was able to do voicedial over bluetooth, using the google dialer app, without a data connection (I have no data plan). Is this possible on the S II X, and how?
2. Loving the hi rez video, but noticing problems with focusing (no focus spot, nor option for infinity, etc.) and with shake reduction (inferior enough to x10a that I'm not sure its working) Are there fixes for this?
Still messing with stuff so I'm sure I'll find more.
Thanks!
Statik
you can turn on the auto focus and anti shake feature in the camera / record app settings
voice dialing, it can use either google voice dial or vlingo, but AFAIK both uses internet connection, they will probably still run even without the internet
just try it and find out
there's always an app for that in the market if those 2 can't do it off line
I've turned both on. I can see the focus trying but there doesn't seem to be a real focal point or a focal lock. In a large room with a person in the middle of the room, it hunts between mid focus and infinity.
I've tried both. Without internet neither works. This is disappointing as it worked fine on the x10 using the stock google voice dial.
Still investigating.
Thanks!

So, I found a nice, free, offline voice dialer for my phone that works over bluetooth. The only trouble is that Samsung have locked us into Vlingo from the voicedial headset command. I saw one thread that involved a fairly in depth rooting and mod scenario to change the dialer. Is there an easier solution to change just this one thing?
Thanks!

How do I turn my deactivated Dinc to a working internet phone?

So I have an SGS3 on the way and a deactivated Incredible soon
Do you guys know how I can use my Dinc on wifi or tethering from my SGS3 to still be able to make internet calls?
I don't want to just demote this bad boy to an mp3 player because this phone is too awesome to just put back in its box.
I believe I saw some people using their tabs to make calls, so I would imagine it would be a similar setup. So if you guys can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated!
Just flash a custom ROM, bypass the activation screen, put it in airplane mode and turn on wifi. Then use something like Groove IP to make data calls through your Google Voice number.
There is also an app called Desk SMS (I think that's what it's called) by clockwork mod (aka koush) which will allow you to send texts over wifi. People use that one to send texts from their wifi only tablets.
There is also a script somewhere in the Inc dev section to which converts the Inc to a wifi only device.
That should be enough to get you started.

this is what I used on my Lenovo ideapad a1...
http://thedroidguy.com/2010/12/voip-for-android-devices/
I use groove ip https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gvoip with google voice http://www.google.com/voice. Works great, easy setup, and you can still text thru the google voice app. With the paid version of groove you can even use the phones native dialer and call log. And you can use google voice for voicemail.

Voice calls on Tab 3 7'?

I see that the 10.1" (and I think 8.9") now have it enabled.
My wife wanted the 7" tablet since she rarely makes voice calls but wants to have the feature, just in case. We don't want Google Voice right now because of lack of MMS support across all carriers. Since we are paying for actual data, I'd like to be able to use the native GSM instead of a VOIP solution.
Any way to make this possible or should I return it for an actual phone?

I have the SM-T217A 7" AT&T Galaxy Tab 3 and also want to know this. Samsung says it has phone capabilities, however there is no stock phone app. I even have my own phone number set up through AT&T and everything, but there is no way to use it. I found an apk called CIQDialer.apk in system\app but it doesn't do anything. Any help would be awesome.
You should check the Play Store, theres should be apps for that.
I use T211, native make phone call, as long as you can insert sim card into your tab3 7.

Note 10+ Call Recorder that WORKS ?

I have the Note 10+ and I live in Tennessee where it is legal to record calls as long as one person knows it is being recorded but the Note 10+ factory app to record calls is not available and I need an app that will work on this phone if your using it normally or on speaker phone to record calls.
I want one that works, tired of trying them and they only record my voice. I need all voices on the conversation to be recorded.
Someone please help.
That function was removed from the OS. no one can do this with an official build.

That is what I read, is there an app that actually works out there, if so does anyone have the link?
Back when I had my Note 2, 4 I had hacked them from advice on here and was able to do cool things but I have not messed with it in a long time. I forgot a lot of it and not sure if there is a build out there that lets you record calls anyway. Why did they remove it when you should be allowed to record your own calls.
This stems from a situation where I was offered a job and told my rate of pay, what expenses were covered and such, then when the pay was lower and expenses not paid they said they never said that and since it was all done by phone there was no proof they said it. They never sent me any emails confirming pay information so they screwed me because I would not have taken the job at what they are paying me and the expenses they are not reimbursing me for. So if I had a call recorder I would have had proof. This is why I want one that actually works, to cover my butt!

There's none. What apps currently doing is recording what comes out from phone speakers which is absolutely random and bad quality wise.
Use ACR. Don't forget to turn off battery optimization. I am using Note10 + ACR right now, you do not even need to make any adjustments, all voices are recording.
ACR records the phone speaker output using the microphone on the phone. Not as good as what had been used in the past. Direct recording of incoming audio on phone calls was removed from android by Google. This was probably done to comply with international laws.
You would think with all the smart people on this forum someone could make an app that works. I would happily chip in $5 for it if it really works and records both sides clearly.
Can someone make this app, as long as it is leagal in the states the people live in it should be fine.
Does it work on regular calls or do you have to have speaker phone on, thanks. And which one is it, who is the developer, the name, there are like 5 ACR apps, thanks

Tried it and with my Exynos, no luck. Any other suggestions?
ACR from Galaxy store works fine with Exynos. Both incoming as outgoing voice is recorded.
Would you mind sharing your setting, because for me it's not working?
I didn't make any settings, just downloaded the app and it records every phonecall.
I don't use any BT headset, just the phone.

Me too, but it doesn't work on my side :/
Cube ACR is and has been working for me. Paid version.
Once in awhile I'll get a call and it will notify me that it can't record. So I have to go into the app, turn off the connector, reboot, turn it back on and I'm good. Other than that it's been flawless for me. This is on an unrooted device.

I got Call and Text from other devices working on Tab S7+ 5G (at least on Tmobile)

I got call and text from other devices working on my Tmobile Tab S7+ 5G. It's super easy. All you need to do is install the apk below because apparently, all we were missing was the app. That's literally all I did.
WARNING: Just be warned as soon as mine connected, it resent a ton of old messages to a bunch of people in my history. They were all previously sent messages and I think it was due to using Pulse as a workaround. When they first sync'd up, the tablet resent them. Once that finished, it's working perfectly.
Enjoy
installed on my s10+, go to enable it, this app just crashes. but it did install and enable on my verizon tab s7+ 5g.
It's already installed on my phone by default. The issue has been with the carrier branded Tab S7 Plus not having access to this feature. Everyone thought it had been locked by the carrier or even Samsung but we're simply lacking the app. I can't help you with the phone but it's now working on the Tab S7 Plus 5G.

aren't you supposed to link it to your cell phone or something from your tablet? otherwise for me this is pointless to me because it just crashes on my S10 Plus.
Thank you so much worked for me on my tab s7 tmobile.
Guessing it would work if samsung default apps wasn't needed. Uhwell.
Yes, you have to use Samsung messages for this to work.
Anyone got the apk for Samsung messages? It does work for me on Message+ but that UI is ugly as hell.

I'm not sure why they're missing, aside from VZW being stupid. I have no idea if these will work but it shouldn't hurt anything to try.
I did this to my T-Mobile S7+ as well and messaging works fine. The phone app is in the list of apps but doesn't make or receive calls, although it shows when I have a missed call. I suspect there are other resources that need to be installed?

Any update? I have an unlocked ( originally TMO S7+ - SM T978U) I got the call from other devices ask installed and it appears to be active see attached. It does text.
But when I attempt a call it tries then immediately ends
Any ideas?
So I posted over on the other thread. But I was able to get all of this installed into my now network unlock S7 Plus originally T-Mobile. Everything seems to have worked correctly but when I initiate the phone call it starts the call but then immediately drops it. I remember some similar Behavior back when I was trying to do custom roms on my S7 edge. It had to do with trying to get AT&T to work with Wi-Fi calling and some other issues. But apparently there was some sort of mismatch between the modem and maybe something in the CSC. Has anybody had this experience where the phone calls are immediately dropped but with all else seemingly working?
Update to the previous post -- I got Calls from other device working but only when I am on the same WiFi network (and it would not work on a hotel network, only when I got home to my home Wifi)
Still would love to hear where the SM-T978U1 firmware is that has been mentioned here -- can't see to find it

It was a basic feature from the tab s6 had on default when tmobile sold it. Digits is an additional $10 with autopay/$15 without autopay monthly feature from tmobile. Samsung disabled calling on purpose with their agreement with carriers so they could charge their monthly charge version

I wrote about this in another thread back in either March or April. This works, but there are some quirks:
Your phone and tablet must be on the same network. This may not work in public networks because device discovery is unavailable (so your tablet can't find your phone regardless of being on the same network). And both devices have to be signed into the same Samsung account (not sure why this one is necessary, but if I sign out on either everything stops working).
Also, occasional updates of various apps in the store cause the phone portion of this to stop working. You should get a message when this happens that a default has been changed. Just go back to Settings -> Advanced -> Calls and Text on other devices, and then turn it back on.
