Simple question, does it record audio videos in Stereo or Mono??
No one has the phone yet, so its hard to say right now. However, the store page for the device says it has 3 microphones, so there is a chance it does.
It is not likely that it has dual-mics for recording. The extra mics on a phone are typically only used for noise cancellation while the primary mic will change depending on usage. For example, the mic on the face is primary for normal phone calls, the mic on the bottom is primary during speaker phone useage and the one on the rear is primary for video.

Does anybody know of an external microphone or and adapter that will allow an external microphone to be connected to the USB jack on the Dash? I need to do some recordings of some meetings, and the VITO Audionotes program is ideal for this. However, the internal microphone on the Dash produces fairly tinny sounding recordings. I really need something with a little better quality.

have you tried raising the "MIC auto gain" & lowering the "VAS" ???
raising the auto gain and lower the VAS will produced better results !
MIC auto gain --->>> increase microphone sensitivity & makes sound recording louder
VAS --->>> setting level high/low for when recording should start so that you won't have gaps ( avoid silence gaps with VAS "Voice Activation System")
you can also select the recording quality to high for higher bitrates ...

Thanks for the response. Yes, I've tried that, and the voice quality is still tinny. Additionally, it tends to clip louder or sharper sounds. However, I can plug in the headset and record through that mic, and it's much better. What I'd like to find is an external microphone like what's on my headset, but without the earbuds.

for clarity I do agreed with you in getting external mic ... but for loudness ... I find it's quite capable.
another thing is ... voice/music playback tends to be better when listening through headphones anyway ... not the device's regular external speaker ...

Oh yeah, it's plenty loud, but in this case, clarity is the prime objective. I'll be attending a week-long music workshop next month, and a large part of what I'll be learning has to do with learning by ear, making it necessary to record the classes and sessions. AudioNotes is a great mp3 recording program, and I used it last year with great results on the SDA that I had then. The Dash, however, must have been built with the bargain-basement microphones. Because of this, music recorded live, even in a classroom situation is not acceptable for study use, since the sound quality is so degraded when using the internal mic. After the classes, I'll be transferring the mp3 files to my laptop to be archived for future practice.

I have managed to get an external microphone to work with my fairphone but only on the voice recorder. It seems to automatically take the audio from true external (radio) mic. I can't get it to work with the video which is crucial for me because I bought the phone to film from a distance y=using the radio mic. Ideas please?
Maybe try a different Video capture APP? Or record audio separately with the voive recorder.
A quick search on Google and sample videos on YouTube reveal that the G3 is capable of and should record video with stereo sound, and yet I was disappointed to find out that my new G3 D855 does not record stereo sound in video no matter what I try.
I am also not able to record stereo sound on its own, any app that claims to be able to record stereo sound does not do that. ("Sound & Voice Recorder" by NLL, for example)
I am running official LG firmware (v21a) and I have rooted it in an attempt to modify /etc/media_profiles.xml to fix the problem, to no avail. I have also tried custom camera apps such as XCam LG, but that didn't help either.

Even thought its capable in my opinion yes it has 2 mics but 1 is for noise cancelling technicly u cant record stereo without 2 mics again in my opinion u need both a left and right channel. It might be stereo quality but tru stereo should need two mics for 2 diffrent reffrence points on sound i may horribly wrong and someone please correct me if im wrong
The mics are placed at two different points - one at the bottom of the phone next to the headphone jack, and the other is on the top of the phone next to the IR blaster. This might not be as much of an issue for most people as it is for me, but I've noticed that my Mi Max isn't recording stereo audio when filming video or when using audio recording apps.
I've attached screenshots form Sony's Audio Recorder showing the microphone test function. You can see on my old Meizu the levels are different for the top and bottom microphones, whereas on the Xiaomi both microphones are being combined into a mono track (both levels are the same).
If possible, it would be great if someone could confirm that this is the same for their device too. I've attached a link to the Sony Audio Recorder on the Play Store. The mic test function is in the settings menu.

Hi RedFox. Thanks for confirming that. It's true that the handset has a mono speaker, but the phone has two microphones, one at the top and one at the bottom.
Like most modern handsets it uses both microphones to record audio when filming video. When the phone is held in landscape one microphone (usually the top) records on the left and the other (usually the bottom) on the right. The issue is that it mixes both left and right channels into one mono track. That is actually pretty uncommon, as most handsets keep the stereo separation to give you a more immersive experience when watching on a laptop or listening on headphones.
Maybe it's an issue they'll fix with a future update. Who knows! Thanks again for checking it out! :good:

hi MikusP, my mi max also having this issue, not only the mi max series device, most of the all Mi mobiles are in the same problem, because this is not a mobile hardware problem, its depends on the (OS) software, by the software only we could rectify this problem, these process has to rectify done through only mi xiome manufacture, the manufacture also know this problem, most of the people didn't like stereo recording, even though many people they dont know about this problem we could not modify this problem. and also one more problem is FM radio not play in stereo mode, i checked in most of the mi series, these also can modified only by (OS).
Hi, I don't know if you have noticed, but the Xiaomi Mi 6 with the original sound recorder app has an outstanding stereo sound quality (set on music and high bitrate), like an ASMR microphone. The problem is that it looks like this can be achieved only with that app; I've tried many other recorder apps but there's no stereo recording and no such a high-quality sound. I also think this is the most underrated characteristic of this flagship. Just to clarify, I put the headphones on my phone, matching the left and right channels with the respective microphones (one on the bottom, near the Type C and one on the top, near the infrared IF), I played a song and in the meanwhile I recorded it. Anyway, is there any way to have the same sound quality with a different ROM? I found the MIUI recorded .apk but for some reasons, it doesn't want to install. It would be a real shame if I lost this function.

I'm using it on Pixel Experience 9, I set the quality to the highest, and it has great sound quality.
Yes, I tried it but the sound quality is way lower than the original app; also, if you select "stereo recording" there's not really a stereo sound because it will record the sound only using the microphone on the bottom of the phone.
