Trade in Program issues and concerns. - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

I have been hearing that some trade in issues are arising. Read https://www.droid-life.com/2017/10/10/google-store-trade-program-things-aware/
Does anyone know what is going on?
I sold my Pixel XL on Swappa. I almost did the trade in because is sounds like a fair deal.

Yeah I just got my return sleeve the things a joke if I were you guys I would slap the sticker on the outside of the box put that thing inside of it I think they wanted it to break

No issues here I got my kit. I’m going to put the phone in the envelope and the envelope in a box slap the label on it and peace. Also Google has upped the trade in window to 50 days for pre orders

Received my trade kit and I will probably get a small box. If you have ever seen how packages are treated, I have zero confidence in the bubble wrap sleeve. Also going to take photos of the current pixel showing no abuse or cracked screen just in case.

Good idea taking pics, I'll definitely do the same.

Got my kit yesterday, immediately did a chat with Google about the 'quality' of the packaging.
Was told just to use the bubble envelope. Then I asked what happens if its damaged in transit.
Basically just a bunch of small talk while they checked with the 'specialists', but never a firm reply, was told they will get back to me via e-mail since it was taking so long to get an answer. As of tadoay still no email reply.
I am just going to cut some cardboard and make a sleeve to encase the phone inside of the envelope when I send it back.

I haven't received by kit yet. How big is the envelope?

This kit is a joke.... ?
Imagine if they shipped the pxl 2 in this thing lmaooooo

Are they expecting us to ship just the phone, cause the envelopes I saw is enough for the phone, but not the chargers and cable any one.. love to keep my charger for work

just the phone.

There is no way I'm shipping my phone in just that. I like the idea of the cardboard insert or I'm putting it in a box.

I am thinking of leaving my Rhinoshield screen protector AND bumper case on the phone... atleast it will be safe from drops...

Yeah...wanted evidence that the phone I am shipping back is perfect, screen not cracked, works fine. Just in case something happens.

Was excited to hear they only want the phone, so bonus charger/cables is a nice.

I shipped my 6p yesterday. Wrapped it in bubble wrap, wedged in cardboard in front and behind then stuffed all that into the Google provided envelope. They should have provided a box, but it should be safe with my added protection.

so, for those interested, I just received an email response concerning the 'quality' of the shipping envelope....
Hi xxxxxxxx,
Thank you for contacting Google support!
I am Sxxxxx from Google hardware support. I'm sending this email in regards to the trade in envelope for which you've contacted us earlier. I apologize for the delay. I've consulted my team on this and confirmed that our Trade In Kits are tested and certified, if you'd prefer to use different packaging, you can affix the provided Shipping label to any box, but make sure to put the phone in the kit envelope before placing into the box.
Please let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with. You could also reply to this email,I’ll be more than happy to help you!
Thanks!

The Google Support Team

Google is trying to scam people out of money.
I just received an email from Google stating that I only got $165 because my Google Pixel XL that was supposed to be valued at $400 was actually a Nexus 6P. Obviously I sent them my Pixel XL (I've also never owned a Nexus 6p), so now I am on with Google Chat support trying to figure it out. I gave them the IMEI of my Pixel XL (straight from the Google Store order history page) and they told me it's for a Nexus 6P.
Needless to say, I am raising holy hell until I get my money, and I will never use their trade-in program again. If you did the trade-in program, beware and pay close attention to the email once they receive your device.

I still have the box my Shamu came in. I'm a not do the trade in yet. I will ask around and see if someone wants to buy it first. I have 3 cases and one more nilliken tempered glass screen protector for it. Lol

I had an issue with them too, I got an email saying I was getting $162 instead of $410 because my phone wasn't factory reset, even though I made sure removed my SIM card and reset it before I sent it in

So far so good. Great improvement over my iPhone 6 Plus. Iris scanner works flawlessly for me and I have glasses. Overall I'm in love. Just sensuous using it as my case and screen protector won't be here until tomorrow. I'm on AT&T btw.

I'm on sprint so hopefully tomorrow.
Who did you order from, I ordered from Samsung, and it seems I won't be receiving mines anytime soon.
The phone is absolutely gorgeous! I came from the iphone 6s+, the fit and finish is phenomenal. My case and screen protectors will be here tonight from Amazon Prime (same day delivery totally worth it), the only thing I dislike now about the samsung phones would be the "ok google" is not longer available for always on, and yes I know how to set it up I wish Samsung would have kept that feature like "Hey Siri" on the iphone 6s+.
It is going to take some getting used to as I have been away from Android for about 8 months rocking my iphone, but I have always tried out the new Samsung phones S6 edge plus S7 edge plus but I have always returned them and went back to the iphone so we will see with this phone if I keep it past the 14 days , but so far so good!!!

This exactly. Had the 6S and then went to an SE haha. When the Note arrives, it'll be twice the size. I've promised myself to at least keep the Note until the release of the iPhone 8, as it's supposed to be edge to edge display and ultra HD.. We'll see

Haha I'm actually using it without a case but i left the stock "protector" on it. I am still waiting for the otterbox defender to be released so i don't have any plans on buying a case soon, i am temporarily using my mumu PS Vita pouch as a "case" to keep it in when I'm not using it as it has a very food material inside the prevents the device from getting scratched

That's awesome, i will go to the mall tomorrow to get a screen protector. Hopefully there will be some available locally (Philippines). At first i wss fixed on getting a TGSP for my note7 but after reading a lot of things about TGSP on "edge phones" i think I'll stick with the "plastic" ones for now.
Hopefully the defender will be released soon, i am honestly not that comfrotable using the phone without any protection as from the videos on YouTube, it can get scratched easily.
Actually pretty jealous of you all. I had mine preordered but accidentally hit the cancel button instead of save one day and had to start over. I was 55th yesterday, and 54th today/tonight, guessing I won't be getting it anytime soon haha.

Don't feel too bad for yourself lol. You could be in my position:
I ordered the Black Onyx 2 minutes after midnight with a Sprint invite code that was given to me by Sprint. Was supposed to get the phone over a week ago. But they screwed up my order. Instead of Black Onyx they are sending me the Titanium... Which I dont want. They refused to cancel my order or to even change the order to the proper one. Stating that they were 'still trying to find my device in the warehouse'... I'm sitting here like "well good, then you can tell them to STOP trying to find it" but they wouldn't. Then when I was told it would ship by a specific day, it didn't. I paid an extra 50 dollars for next day shipping as well, but guess what? It JUST shipped yesterday at 8pm! And wont be here until tomorrow while I'm at work. So I basically paid 50 bucks to have my phone shipped the same day as what it would have been with free shipping... Ontop of that, Sprint put a restriction on my package! So I can't have UPS hold the package at their sorting facility for me to just come pick up like I always have to do. My 'UPS Driver' is cruel and won't take the time to go down my drive way to deliver packages. Sure the drive way is around a quarter mile long, but his excuse every time is "I can't find the house"... When the house is two stores, the ONLY two story house in the area, and can be seen over the tops of the trees from the road... But nope, he just won't come down the drive way to deliver. So since I have that restriction, I can't pick up my package like I normally have to do. So, I now have to call off from work so I can sit at the end of the drive way to wait for the UPS guy to show up... Then I have to take the phone into a Sprint Store to have them exchange it for the Black Onyx one... IF they even have it in stock... Because apparently the stores haven't even gotten their devices in yet. I talked to them yesterday when I tried to see if they could just hand over the proper phone and then I'd drop off my current phone and the incorrect Note 7 back to them. They said they would, but they don't have any devices in the store. So I really need to hope and pray they have a Black Onyx version that hasn't been purchased yet...
Getting this phone has been the worst experience of my life in regards to trying to buy a smartphone... My Note 5 was a breeze, and my S4 was as well. I just walked into the store 4 days before launch and was like "hey, I wanna buy the S4" and the sales guy walked outa the stock room with an S4 and sold it to me. I pre-ordered the Note 5 within minutes of them opening up pre-orders, and got the phone 3 days later, weeks before you could even buy them in a store. And now, they ask me if I want this phone weeks early, and I take them up on the offer, and presto... worst experience ever.

Hoping as well haha. I wasn't even planning on getting the phone until they said they'd give it early and at a discount. But guess that was just too good to be true D=

it's sad it's come to an end

This is the last message I will type with my Note7, after I finish this I will wipe and put it in its box for collection tomorrow. Every item lovingly wrapped in its original packing and lables perfectly packaged looking like the box was never opened.
Do you think Samsung would mind if I kept the ota adaptor?
Also do I just hand over the Note7 box or should I wrap it in something?
I will now see some of you in the one plus 3 forum or next year if Samsung can convince me to go to a note8 I will be there.
Weather your keeping or returning I wish you all the best.

I thought you had to return everything in the box?
I would love to keep the accessories. Just don't want to mess up refund etc
I am pretty sure a lot of people just sent the phone in and kept the accessories. I know that's what I am going to do. I doubt there will be anything said or done about it. Hell, I spent hundreds on accessories for my Note 7 that will be useless once I turn the phone in, so it is a very small thing to keep the charger and cord IMO. Doesn't nearly make up for all I lost in the big picture.
ooMoo you don't say what country you are in but from what I remember of your previous posts you are UK based like myself.
I've returned both the original and replacement phones. Each time I only returned the phone (the first one I even kept the Spen as a spare for the replacment) and have had no problems and now received my refund from Samsung.
It's not like they can do anything with second hand accessories, they'll just become more landfill. Be eco-friendly and keep them!

I'm sure the bits would come in handy. I just hope if I do keep a few bits I'm as lucky as you when they check.
it all depends if they check, O2 actually commented on the fact I never put the USB lead and S-Pen nibs in with the first replacement, ended up they did want them when I said they were welcome to send someone to pick them up like they did the phone. with the final return they wanted the Gear VR back I was going to send it back I have no use for it any more, the courier refused to take anything more than the phone in the box, I had to wait over a week after them getting the phone collected before I could even get them to remove the Note off my account so I could get another phone, during that time they complained about the Gear VR not being there so I offered to return it to a store or send it back if they sent a paid packet but they decided it didn't matter so they obviously had the phone it was still about another 4-5 days before I could get them to remove the phone from my account by that point I had got a a Pixel XL from EE and told them they could go fornicate with a rusty pole.
but then what can you expect from the firm that once told me 3G was a failure and no one would ever use it.
so what you have to send back depends on the firm you got your phone from and how crap and unhelpful they are.
Samsung does not care about anything but the phone. Not the stylus nor the accessories nor the VR or SD card or Gear Fit2 that were issued on promotion.. They do not care if you take a hammer and smash the Note7 to bits. They just want the Note back so they can check it off the list and send it to a recycling firm.
IF you run into some shady sellers that require you to produce the Promo items or accessories know that they only want to be able to profit from your gullibility or the goodness of your heart.

Damn mate. I feel ya.
I have to return mine tomorrow too. And although I've already moved on to the LG V20, it still hurts prepping it for return. It's like losing your first love, you can't quite get over it completely.
Yeah... The note 7 was probably the perfect phone
I myself have moved to the v20 and am loving it. But I still remember my note 7 days...
Anyways, they let me keep all the accessories.. Cables, charger, adapters.....
Oh yeah, I'm definitely keeping the rest. Just returning the phone.
Especially the S Pen. I'm just gonna get maybe the Note 8.0 pre-owned, and then use the S Pen on it.
That's it for me. My Note 7 has departed. Feeling depressed now.
Don't feel so sad. If you can wait for Note8, it will be thabomb . OK, bad joke. But those that say Note8 should be amazing are probably right because Samsung needs to get their reputation back badly.

Carphone Warehouse here in the UK are the country's biggest mobile phone supplier. in addition, all the Samsung stores in the UK are in fact staffed and run by Carphone Warehouse.
Carphone Warehouse insist on you handing the GearVR over.
I got my fire proof box to send my phone back a couple of days ago. I only put the phone in the box. I even kept the s-pen for my next device that it might be compatible with.

Well, I did say Samsung. How is it possible to fit the VR headset into the ceramic box they send for recovery? It isn't.... Are they sending a shipping container for the VR headset? I doubt they are.
So, Samsung only cares about the phone getting returned like I said. Whatever this other company wants is above and beyond the recall process and they just want to make some flow. Remember, the VR headsets were subsidized by Samsung and no one else....
Sadly my ride with the note7 is coming to an end. I got my Axon 7 which is a very nice phone. Not a note7 but it looks and feels nice.

Same here. If by any chance a customer didn't return to the store every single thing in the box etc, Samsung charged the store. My store was so angered by the attitude over the VR that the STORE gave me a VR themselves FOC.
The Samsung importer in this country is awful.
This is one major area I think Samsung Korea should have cleaned its act up by making one rule across the globe for returns.
Knowing UK consumer laws are stiff I would suspect, I don't know, that the VR as a free 'gift' would not be required to be part of any return. I would think a visit to ones local CAB and a chat with one of their legal reps would soon sort that out?

Or.... One could be selfish and not invest any more free time into this matter by driving to a physical storefront, waiting in queue, spending gas or transit fees AND ENDANGERING EVERYONE AROUND THEM by carelessly transporting these DEADLY devices through the public thoroughfares and simply say ....come and get it.
That would show just what you need to return or not. heh heh heh

So I just received this from Samsung for the S8 Plus I had canceled

So I placed a pre-order for S8+ on launch day, but decided to cancel a week or so later. Today this box came in the mail from Samsung! It's all black. Slightly lighter than a fill cell phone box. Did a quick Google but there seems to be only one picture if what is inside the box. Don't want to remove the shrink wrap because I don't know if I have to return it to Samsung or not. Any info on this?
Edit: saw in the comments section of another site where a bunch of people said they have received theirs. Doesn't seem like that big of a deal. I don't think Samsung would care for me to send it back apparently... I'll give a them a call anyway.
It's a speaker dock that people will get free from pre-ordering direct from Samsung. More info and pics can be found here: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_sending_free_speaker_docks_to_those_who_preordered_galaxy_s8_in_us-blog-24520.php
wanna pass it along for whatever shipping costs? :highfive:
I read about this on reddit. Is this something everyone who preordered gets one? Or just a selection of people?
I want it

Defective Screen !!

Just unboxed OnePlus 5T and was greeted by defective screen. First I thought it to be the screen guard, peeled it off. Still the same. Reset the phone, still same. Updated OTA, still the same. Finally registered for a return.
What the **** is wrong with quality teams these days !!
These vertical lines are not so visible in full white bright background, but annoyingly visible in dark colored background or just by reducing brightness. I never thought even OnePlus will go this low with quality check.
RIP. And now you can talk with them for maybe a Christmas gift.
what the hell.... hope i don't get that.

I don't think its a general thing. This is my third OP device and I never had bad experience with OP except this time.
It seems to be a **** on the part of quality check.
We complained to Amazon yesterday night and this morning they sent a technician to inspect it. He registered a case for return in 5 minutes. But the problem is, the seller in Amazon saying they don't have stock so can't replace. So my wife had to argue with Amazon folks since we have prime membership and we bought with early access, spoke with higher management from customer care side, and "maybe" they will replace it. We made it clear that we don't want refund but a replacement.
The phone is brilliant by the way, the face unlock is SO FAST that for a moment I thought there is no lock on the screen !!
Plus the anodized aluminium build is so damn premium that I could actually lick the phone !! :silly:

I don't think its a general thing. This is my third OP device and I never had bad experience with OP except this time.

Amazon has extremely good customer support in India to be very honest. They are always fearful about loosing market share over here and they do everything they can to keep it fluid. I'm getting a replacement on Monday BTW.

Amazon has great customer service in the USA also. I’ve only had 1 very smalll problem in 5 years. I ordered a “Used Like New” Pebble Time Watch from a third party seller, for $.01. I never received the watch. I contacted Amazon and they said that there was nothing they could do. I didn’t care, it was only a penny, and I would have been more surprised if I would have received it. I have never had a problem with customer service when ordering electronics that are sold and shipped from Amazon.
I got my 5T yesterday and everything is perfect..
Wow that's unlucky I hope there's no many been sent out like that!
I've sold my op5 today and nipped to my o2 store and grabbed a 5t so far so good much quicker than ordering from oneplus I had a crap experience last year from oneplus in buying it early and receiving it ate.

Me too. I haven't found one thing wrong with mine. The screen is great, no blue color shift like on the Pixel 2 XL.
It doesn't seem to be a problem across buyers.
Seems to be an isolated issue.
I'm getting a replacement tomorrow
Mine isn't quite like yours, but I've got some strange brightness "bands" on my display mostly visible on grey screens.
It won't let me upload a photo...

Lol every launch has issues. It's early adopter price. IPhone x had the same issues with amoled but they had worse issues. On a phone that costs twice as much. We have to remember it's half the price with most of the features in a package that looks of say way better. Do an rma and get a new one, hopefully get a fixed phone

Question RIPPED OFF BY GOOGLE???

I returned my Pixel 5 for a trade in credit on my new Pixel 6 Pro - I recieved a notice today that they had processed the trade in but that I had sent in something different than what I had claimmed when I made the order. They said I would get $36 for trading in a PIXEL 2 XL. This is so wrong and I feel like either someone switched my phone (the Pixel 5 that I actually sent in) with a different phone - or someone at GOOGLE has their head up the butt. I can't wait 5 hours to chat with them and I can't find an email address or phone number to use to request help. I have been an android user for many years (mostly Samsung but I have also had Pixel XLs - which I always used to sell on Swappa when I got a new phone) I have also traded in phones many times and have never had this problem., Any suggestions please?
Open a case with Google... not much we can do here

I'm pretty sure they use a 3rd party contactor for their warranty / trade-in processing and everything is scanned in to match with the packing slip you included with your trade. If that IMEI that you claimed was on your 5 subsequently gets scanned somewhere else or with a different trade-in, then it should be pretty easy to resolve.
Bummer, definitely file a claim asap... hopefully you will get a resolution!
Good luck. Google's chat and email support are literally the worst I've ever encountered from a lawful corporation.
Then I ordered my 6Pro, they blocked off their own financing option with a hold, then said the payment was denied (because of the hold they'd placed). When I called to correct it, they totally ignored everything I said and just changed the billing method to a different credit card (seemingly at random) attached to my Google Pay without my permission. After very literally SEVENTEEN emails, I just had to give up. Every single time they would fixate on some mundane thing and run with it as if that was the reason I was emailing. (sure! if you'd like a refund, simply use the return link on the store and ship the entire order back to us! Thanks for choosing Google!). At this point I would be hard to convince that anybody actually works for their customer support team, as opposed to it all just being another hat for Google Assistant. Hope your experience is better than mine, and if you happen to find a way to actually speak to a human, definitely share the secret

Did you make evidence of your trade-in (photos, videos) of the phone that you put in the package?
Google is not handling these trade-ins on their own, they have third-party companies that they contract to do their bidding. So if that third-party company is trying to rip you off, you need proof.
As a general suggestion. ALWAYS always make at least photos of EVERY tech product you send away by package, no matter if it's trade-in, return or whatever. Never ever trust other humans to not rip you off. You always need insurance, best case you just have a family member or buddy that you spend time with, have him as a WITNESS whilst doing the packaging.
That saved me a couple of month ago, some call me a paranoid in that regard, but last time I had to send in my LG CX, the repair company tried to rip me off "physical damage, bla, no repair, you pay us 200 bucks to dispose" when I came fully prepared with a written witness testimoney, a 70 picture protocol and a video proving that the TV was in pristine condition before sending it away. That took me like 10 minutes in time, but saved me far more than a grand. Totally worth it.
I didn't even have to wait for one hour until they gave me the notice that there was a human error and they would compensate me for the full MSRP that I originally paid.
If I hadn't been prepared, they'd have ripped me off. That's life. So be prepared, always!
That is life. You learned your lesson. Always back your *** up!
hopefully if you have some record some how of the IMEI number you can find your phone amongst the listed items on their system.
if they say it's still not there talk to the highest person at the place, tell them they have a thief working there and you'll be calling the police about it. in reality that might come to nothing but it also might be the kick up the ass needed for someone to do their job properly.

That's a good idea, he should definitely go to the police if Google doesn't help him. Best case someone just accidentally switched two devices whilst processing incoming packages , worst case this is simple thievery, if the story is true.
I considered this when I sent my Pixel 5 in for trade.
Hopefully taking pics of front and back with device on (to include the shipping label) will be enough, should the same thing happen to me.
Even a working Pixel 2 XL will get you about $50 so not only did they get the model wrong, but it's condition as well.

The police wouldn't do anything if the valuables are less than $1,000. Don't waste your time.
Agreed. Small claims court would probably be the next best bet if you can't make any headway directly with Google.
Thanks to all for their helpful tips and insight. Update: Finally got thru to tech support and they started a case - today, they emailed to ask If I would approve access to my account to access data about and associated with my Google Pixel product and account. Hopefully, this will help them get to the bottom of things....fingers crossed...
Just wanted to let everyone know that I finally heard back from the Customer Support staff regarding the trade in amount. Up to this point they only approved a total of $38 versus the trade in amount they had originally promised.
After concluding their investigation, they said I would be getting the amount I was expecting (just over $400 I believe) and went on to say it would be wrapped up very soon.
I was worried there for a while, it seemed to take way to long, but in the end they took care of things. I do appreciate all of the tips and input from everyone. Thanks!
Thanks for the update! Glad to hear it's working out.

Its important to keep Hanlon's razor in mind when dealing with people. It states "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity." -- an error is an extension of stupidity. So just work with the other side in good faith and chances are it will all work out in the end.
Glad to hear you got it sorted.
