Video Playback Stutter/Lag - Moto Z2 Force Questions & Answers

Anyone else having issues with general video playback? It doesn't ALWAYS happen... But it seems that some apps (YouTube, Facebook, Netflix, etc.) seem to freeze up or have audio syncing issues, primarily with HD content, but happens at content at 360p too. Only way to fix is to reboot, and even then, it sometimes begins shortly after reboot.
I currently use T-Mobile with a consistently strong connection (25-75mbps) and have Gigabit internet at home, so I know it isn't a lack of bandwidth. No case on my phone to cause overheating, and phone temperature seems normal regardless. Any ideas?

Are the apps installed on the SD card? I had nothing but problems using apps that are installed on cheap SD.

Nope... Don't even have an SD card in this phone yet.. :/

I noticed this problem last night while watching YouTube. Horribly synched audio.
US ATT model.

I have a slight green load circle arrow, on all audio/video files. Tidal takes forever for the first HiFi file to buffer and load. I have never seen this behaviour on any phone before. This does NOT occur on my HTC 11, LG G6 or S7. The processor is not kicking in properly in the kernel imo

Kernel is the first thing I thing I thought of to be honest... It's obvious Motorola highly modified it... I'm coming from the OnePlus 3, and the difference in this software vs other devices tends to be pretty huge from what I can tell...

Are you stock? Do you have the bootloader unlocked? I might have a boot.img that should work. If you are rooted or have TWRP, this will make you lose it though. If you have TWRP, I can make it a flashable ZIP as well...

I'm completely stock...I haven't done anything yet to root, unlock, or modify... I'm waiting for more development to happen prior to doing anything simply because once I start, I can't stop lol

I ran into these issues. Compiling the kernel with some optimizations fixed the issue, that is why I suggested it. (all same from source, just different configuration during compile)

Gotcha! I figured... I'm weighing out the options about rooting... My only thing is I've already done a bit of personal-feel tweaking and don't know if I wanna take the time to do so yet... XP

Hint: default compile for this phone is performance governor which can cause these issues, so rooting and changing gov to interactive or another one should fix the issue without needing a custom kernel.

As simple as changing the gov? That's almost too easy loll! I think I know my answer

i dont have any stutter in videos but scrolling through G+ on my phone is very laggy. i installed Kernel Auditor and my gov is already set to Interactive, maybe change the GPU gov? its set to msm-adreno-tz

[Q] reboot random

Hello,
I had random reboot before with my leedroid 2.3b, and I had one also 30 minutes ago with AuraxTSense, so I'm asking if the cause is the rom or not.
When he reboot, he's not hot, I see it reboot sometimes and the phone was at normal temperature (approximately with my hands lol). it reboots max 1 time per day.
So I'm tellng myself that's it could be due to:
- radio
- S-OFF
- one app
For radio, I try tu update from 32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14 to 32.47.00.32U_5.10.05.23, and I'll see.
For apps, the problem is that I would have not to restore all my apps, to see if one app cause it.
What do you think of it?
Thanks
My question to you is: what are you doing with your phone at the time it reboots?
Playing a game, navigating or browsing the web etc?
I just got my Desire back from htc with a new motherboard, it used to reboot randomly also. Now it doesn't anymore
Are you using SetCPU?
Could be an issue with the kernel, or how one of the SetCPU profiles handle the kernel during screen off (interactive I think?)
Or as fnotsje said, could be hardware related

Sometimes I do nothing...maybe it's due to an app services?
But with your old motherboard, it reboots several times per day, or like me?

What is surprising, that if it's that, i t should reboot many more times than one time per day no?

It depended on the usage, if I used it alot, it'd reboot more than if I used it less frequent.
But I'm not sure it is the motherboard issue, because you're mentioning the phone is not hot when it reboots..

Yes and always only one time per day, just one time maybe 2.
I desinstalled SetCPU, it changes nothing.
What do you advise me to do?
Wipe and install minimum apps, and see if I've that, and little by lttile, reinstall one new app...test few days again...?, it will be long :-(
Thanks.
Your phone shouldn't be rebooting randomly really. It's happened to me when I overclocked my CPU and played a game. It didn't like it at all. It sounds like something has buggered up somewhere down the line. If I was you, I would try quite a few more roms other than what you've tried. If it's still rebooting then it would need to get looked at by HTC or by going through you carrier (if they do it). That's what I would do.

With the minimum of apps, for example to see if it reboot or not?
Because if t's an hardware problem due to the radio, it censed to reboot even with few apps no?
For carrier as I'm at Orange like you, I think, they could change fastly my phone maybe. I will try that if anything works. You think that if I do that, I've to find an orange rom? I'm asking myself if they accept an HTC even restored with RUU.
Thanks
I have the same issue and ITS DRIVING ME MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never experienced this with my stock ROM... so I firstly tried a gingerbread ROM... when it started... i then moved to a Sense Rom and still reboots occured... I'm now on my 2nd cooked sense ROM and still having reboots!!
WTF? is there a quick sollution?
thank you!
SO MANY follks seem to be having problems with [email protected]! Is there seriously no sollution to this or a common cause..?
had the same problem & is with HTC getting fixed
there are a few posts about it if you search - the only fix seems to be to send it to HTC for a new motherboard as some presume that it's overheating.
11 march still waiting on return of my Desire
I can relate to your issues. Mine kept rebooting when I tried to use the GPS. Like you I had mine rooted, S-off and was using a custom ROM.
After many tests, I downloaded a stock RUU, installed a different navigation app and once again, it rebooted.
Bottom Line: take it back. Its probably defective. Just make sure you're running a stock ROM. Download an RUU.

4.2 is making me angry

So yeah all the 4.2 Roms are making me very angry because I'll turn my screen off and it doesn't want to turn back on. Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone know how to fix it?

its called sod, sleep of death. its a common problem with 4.2.1 kernel source. just about everyone has experienced them, some a lot more than others, root and not rooted, custom rom/kernel and stock. google needs to fix it in its source. there are some anecdotal fixes, some claim work, others say dont work.
I'm running a 4.2 ROM (Beta at that) and am amazed at how much better my device is working. Everything is smoother and I haven't had a single issue. I honestly don't see how everyone is having so many problems with it.

im loving 4.2.1, cant say that i have any real issues with it. but, i do get sod occasionally, about once every ten days or so. if you around the forums, just about everyone has experienced them. some get them several times an hour, some several times a day, some several times a week, some just have had sod once or twice total. every device is different, they will have differing experiences.

I've experienced a "black screen" on 4.2.1 (OTA), due to what i think was a crash from XDA app, probably from using it with an ad blocker, at least from what i could see. I could adb shell to the device, remount system, no problem. I've removed the ad blocker from the system, while still on 4.2.1 (OTA), and have not experienced the "black screen of death" again.
I have not experienced a "sleep of death" yet on this device. Note: definition of sod from my galaxy s days: device is in a state (after going into deep sleep) in which the only way to get it back is pulling the battery out. System is unresponsive.
I've flashed JOP40D through stock images, and haven't seen black screen/sod scenarios, recreating the same system, more or less.
As i rarely use BT, i haven't tested it again, but we shall see.
Op, what apps do you have installed? Do you use SR/AVS? If not, please raise voltages by 50mv at each step, or at least the lowest and highest step, for mpu, core and iva.
While the device is in this state, no communication is possible? Can you logcat? dmesg? Can you receive calls?

I have not had that issue or any SOD and I am running CM10.1 with LeanKernel, my wife runs the same setup and she also has not had any issues.
I've seen SoD's on Jellybro CM10.1 with ZenSERIES kernel v14.1, but only when using the ZenX governor. If I change to Pegasusq, the SoD's stop. I guess ADA is still working out some of the kinks in ZenX. Ooo, and it looks like v15 was released a few days ago. Something new to flash.

[Q] Random Reboot

Hi,
History:
I have a problem with my Nexus. It randomly reboots. Nothing seems to help.
It started after a few months after I was rooted on CyanogenMod 10.0. In 3 days, it quickly escalated to a reboot every 10 minutes on average.
A factory reset (without user apps installed on it) on CynogenMod reduced the frequency (every hour?), but didn't eliminate it.
Unrooting to stock Jellybean 4.1.2 seemed fine only in the first week. The problem came back afterwards, and updating to JB 4.2.1 didn't help.
Now, 2 months on stock ROM, I get even more random times. Sometimes it is 2 times a day, sometimes once a week.
Just before it:
I get a metallic screeching noise for 1-2 seconds, and immediately following that, device turns off with a "pang". Although these days I HAVE had situations that the sound came for up to 3 seconds (and the screen freezes), but the phone worked normally afterwards.
What happens:
It randomly reboots. The rebooting is at irregular intervals, whatever i was doing on it (even when not using it).
What happens after:
It takes much, much longer to startup again. It can get stuck at the "Google" logo screen for up to 5min. It doesn't take this long to reboot if I shut it down myself.
Any ideas? What causes this? Is it software or hardware?
Can I even send it for warranty if I cannot reproduce the problem?
I don't want to send it to warranty if I don't have to. I don't want to loose my phone for I don't know how long.
Hi, what's your eMMC version? Maybe buggy memory, try looking at other threads.

I'm new to this eMMC thing, but according to an app my eMMC Type is V3U00M. To check whether it is buggy or not it needs root, which I don't currently have. If it IS buggy, I don't have a choice but to bring it for warranty right?
No, I have not tried to changed batteries. I don't have other batteries. But can the problem really lie with the battery? Btw, my phone is less than 8 months old.

Well, I am planning to root again. I want to switch back to CyanogenMod 10.1. Lagfix app isn't needed if you can use -discard mount option right? How to use either, if let's say I'm on CyanogenMod. This is also the first time I hear of lagfix and discard mount... :/
Btw, the app i used to check my eMMC Type said that my chip is ok. No brickbug. Are you sure it's buggy?

I might be wrong here, but from what I've read at the link and other xda posts (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029246), the V3U00M chip is not buggy (in the sense that it's stable for rooting and using the -discard command), but it does give slowdowns. I do have horrible slowdowns, so thanks for that solution I didn't know existed. However, this doesn't solve my random reboot problem at all...
No one else got any solid way to find out the source of the problem?

Same as you man...
I'm seriously considering throwing my phone to the garbage. I don't like iPhones, but google is really pushing me into it with this crappy piece of phone. Is so frustrating to have these rebooting issues, I've tried everything, from wipe to factory reset, back to stock, flash custom ROMS and KERNELS, turning location access off, uninstalling all apps/widgets that might interfere, and every single "solution" it's out there, and STILL I'M HAVING THESE DAMN REBOOTS!
Now it's even worse, I can't even transfer files to my phone anymore because, guess what... IT REBOOTS! everytime I transfer ANY KIND of file.
The only thing that seems to work for a while is reformatting and start from scratch. I've done that like 3 times already. But still after a few weeks the issue reapears... i'm really mad about this, and no one seems to care. Not Google and not even Samsung.
The only interesting thing that i found around the internet is this guy's findings
plus.google.com/113601948978986762347/posts/2ALASEC1dG2
I read the log on my phone and matches to his... but now the thing is, what do i do with this information? I'm not a programmer o something like that.
Any ideas?
I think your board is faulty. Even so, have you tried disabling SR and raising voltages across the board? Trimming eMMC? Omapflash?

He is saying that you have root you need to install trickster mod from the play store. Open the app and go to specific. Then disable the smart reflex toggles and click the oké button in the upper right corner see if that works. If it doesnt re enable smart reflex and go tot MPU voltages. Next to the words MPU voltages there is a blue plus/minus button. Click that and click the plus one time. Accept it and push again the oke button. The other two things I dont exactly know..

Honestly, if you are getting reboots on a clean stock (including stock kernel) , it's probably a hardware issue.

The thing is that after a clean stock install everything works fine for a week or two, that means no random reboots, and i can transfer any kind of file of any size with no problem. Then for some estrange reason (even with no crazy apps installed) starts with a random reboot, after that first reboot i know is time and that i wont be able to transfer files anymore, because it WILL reboot while i'm transfering files. Other thing i have noticed is that around where the camera lens is, get really hot. So I think that the reason it reboots is kernel panic caused by overheating, or the other thing is that my sdcard have some issues when writing files.
Right now i'm using CyanogenMod 10.0.0-maguro with jelly bean 4.1.2 and franco.kernel 3.0.51-nightly-512GPU and i have already tried going back to stock.
how can a I check if my hardware is fine? Is there any app out there?
Thanks!

512GPU? You mean your GPU is overclocked? Maybe try to set your GPU to stock. And if it gets really hot and you have random reboots you can try to over volt with trickster mod.

No, I don't think my GPU is overclocked, that's the full name of the kernel, you say that the kernel automatically puts my GPU to 512?. Anyways i just installed that kernel two days ago just because i thought it might make the reboots go away. I'm having rebooting problems since february (just after upgrading to 4.2.1), so i don't think that the GPU is causing the reboots.

I actually enable most of those too "good to be true" misc tweaks, and the streaming settigs and some more but i deactivate them. what i just realise is the thePimp my CPU tweak was way up (i didnt touch it but im wondering if my swiping action could have caused it to go up) , should that be? and i had SD Booster installed. Can they both run together? Can that cause it? Especially the cpu tweak being so high?

[Q] Note 4 Lag

I installed TWRP and a rom and the phone ran smooth. No issues. But after installing Wanam and Xposed a lag developed. I installed a analog clock and watched it. Every 3 to 4 seconds the clock will stop for 1 to 2 seconds. Videos freeze, while typing the keyboard freezes. I have tried the build prop edit, the wanam fixes with no help. I have even tried going back to stock. The lag is even there in the stock rom. I have not tried rooting the stock rom, just skipped that and installed TWRP then a rom. I have also notice when odining back to stock that the Sprint and the Sprint Spark logo does not come up. I am thinking that the stock logos should come back. Can anybody help with what could be going on with the lag.

Well I took the phone to best buy today and had them reflash the stock firmware. I finally got the sprint logo back on bootup, but it still had the same bad lag. I think the phone was not fixable. Ive done all the same things on wifes note 4 and it started working right after installing the stock firmware. Mine just wouldnt. So I will just buy another phone.
Are you past your return period? If so then I guess your stuck and will have to fix it yourself. It sounds like your problem can be fixed with a odin flash back to stock. Once you do that then immediately go to the activate phone option in settings and also update prl and profile. I think you'll get it sorted out by doing this. It definetely sounds software/firmware related so no worries.

What is "PRL" and how can I check and change mine if i need to.
and change it to what?
im rooted stock.TWRP and wanam lag fix and build prop fix,but I still have a very slight lag.
thanks..
Settings, system update, first click update profile. When it finishes and your data come back, click update prl.
Xposed will always produce some lag based on how the additional framework functions upon boot. Its the nature of the beast I suppose. With the simplicity comes a price. Hopefully there will be some custom roms soon and you won't need the xposed framewor & modules.

You're incorrect about xposed always producing lag. Do you even know the technical details of how xposed works? I'm inclined to think that you have no idea.
Anyway, for anyone experiencing lag after installing xposed, do this. It solved any lag I had:

My apologies for saying xposed framework always produces lag. I know it can be installed and run eith little to no lag, especially with these more powerful phones.. I also like the whole concept and the fact that it works for both deodexed and odexed systems. But I don't like a seperate running jar with a bunch of module (apk's) running in addition to the regular system files. (I know not all the modules are always loaded and unused ones sit dormant). For older devices that don't have enough ram etc this caused problems if you loaded it up too much. I guess this is what i based my opinion on. Then again you could be right and I have no clue about how xposed works. Lol. INo offense taken viperboy. I'm just used to doing everythong manually aka the hard way. Lol

Read up on it a bit. You define a method that you want to modify and you can do things such as modify that method before, during, or after it runs. That's why xposed is awesome and extremely versatile. The only time you typically need to update your xposed code is when the method you're modifying moves to a different class or the logic in it dramatically changes, which doesn't happen too often between software versions for most major things one would want to modify.

So does that mean xposed will get updated to work with lollipop/ART?
And I remember you from eVo 4g lte, will you be deving on this phone?
After doing literally everything to fix my phones lag, I took it too the Sprint store and they verified that they have had several Notes with the same issue. Apparently it is a motherboard issue that some of the earlier phones have had.
Mine wasn't so much lag, as the phone was perfectly fine, it was mostly that the phone would freeze upon flicking/scrolling/typing for 1 second randomly, and then it would mash all the commands you had entered in at once to catch up. Was VERY frustrating. I'm just glad it was hardware related, and not software like I believed..
I'll be getting a replacement free of charge on Tuesday.

How long have you had the phone?
Preordered through Sprint and recieved it the day before release.
I'm having same issue. Every 3-5 seconds my phone freezes for a second. You can even see it recording a video. I tries the reset but still no go. Going to sprint Monday.
Same here and i never installed exposed

Did they give you any problem being outside the 14 day return period?

None at all, but I also added the $10 insurance to my Note 4 upon activation. It covers 2 phone replacements no questions asked. They didn't even mention my knox being tripped.
Took my phone this morning to local store. Guy at store said he would order me a new one on Monday. Didn't want to give me a refurbishes one. He tried the phone for 2 minutes and said it needed to be replaced.
